Stock Android/Linux software images by Planet Computers - Planet Gemini PDA Guides, News, & Discussion

The Gemini PDA has native Android + dual boot Linux support, and Planet Computers have provided a flashing tool for firmware.
There is a detailed guide on the flashing process of either Android and Linux available on their support page.
A flash guide for Linux is also available through there, along with a flash tool and drivers.
This thread will feature the stock image firmware for both Android & Linux.
In this thread I will also provide direct download links to those images.
Android:
Android firmware v1.0 (Nougat)
Rooted boot-verified.img (replace in above build)
Linux:
Debian Technology Preview build

Hey thre,
Does the PDA handle system apps differently? I've been trying to remove some system apps, for instance, Google Play Movies and TV, but my app remover, that has worked on my past three phones, is having trouble getting root access. I've used root checkers, and replaced the rooted boot img. in the Android foler myself.
I guess its just not rooted.
Any tips?
Thanks.

What about WIFI only device rooting?
Which image should i use?
Also I see that your link points to version 1.1 of the firmware.
Is it still compatible with rooted img?
Also is this new 1.1 version the one that users complain about battery draining?

Does anyone have the link to download the Partition Tool? The link they keep mentioned on the Support site just leads to a "Coming Soon" page: http://support.planetcom.co.uk/partitionTool.html

deleted, problem getting torrent seeding to work, sorry

when I get seeding to work, I'll update my posts

New Recovery Flasher ! [updated 20090904]

http://zenthought.org/content/project/flashrec
Tool to flash the recovery image on Android phones. The so-called “one click root”.
No longer includes CyanogenMod Recovery 1.4 , but will download the correct CyanogenMod Recovery 1.4 for your phone.
Allows flashing any image (type the path or url to it).
Works on “32B” and “32A” phones.
Uses CVE-2009-2692 , which is patched in firmwares released after August 2009.
Also allows you to back up and restore the current image (to /sdcard/recovery-backup.img)
NOTE: I just found this update and have nothing to do with the actual project - though I am grateful for the work and would like to share the info!
Bluetooth access is only used to create a socket for exploiting the bug – Bluetooth does not need to be enabled, as it is not really used.
Pre-compiled: flashrec-1.1-20090904.apk (Allow non-market apps on phone to install)
Source: flashrec-1.1-20090904.tar.gz
SVN: flashrec on Google Code
Note: I am not involved in this project, just sharing the hard work of someone else.
Trying right now on a G1 Dev phone.
Awesome app! The real universal rooting tool!! (for now at least
I heard about this a couple days ago. Will this thing still work after donut? Also would this be in here or in the app section?
Does anyone have their original backup before they rooted their phone? I need it in order to get my phone back to unroot. I need it in order to restore my splash image since my hardware keyboard isn't completely working.
Any help will gladly be appreciated.

Rooting any version of Android using Odin without losing data

Hello guys,
I have just updated (painfully) to Gingerbread and I was looking for a solution to root my phone as the Gingerbreak, for any reason, does not work on my i9000 device.
After grabbing many many informations and Googling on the internet, I found a way which works for any version of Android and which uses Odin.
I summerized and explained everything here : How to root your Android any-version phone using Odin
I made a kind of "package" with all the tools needed for the procedure, including the tools needed to get any kernel version and putting it in a .tar (the 7-zip implementation seems not to be compatible with Odin).
I think many of you will be interested in this method. If you find any bug / issue with the package provided feel free to tell me.
Have a nice day.

TWRP bump and Root on bone stock Lollipop

Hey everyone, I'd just like to throw this in here as It's currently only in the general G3 threat with no other D850 verification's.
I have successfully rooted, and installed TWRP on my G3 while running Lollipop. It was not previously rooted nor was there any modification done before upgrading to Lollipop.
It takes a bit of searching for files, but once it's together it works likes a breeze!

Excellent. Thanks. Nice to see this posted here as well. I wonder if all the many files could be put into a 'master' zip for ease of downloading and installing, and the script be modified to unzip the master and then get going?
Know where i can get the lollipop firmware? Do I use the lollipop or kitkat firmware? Where can I get all the files? I have the root done, the extractor and the twrp.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention. What, if any, is the advantage of this over autoprime's method? Sort my you get to downgrade on less image to KK at the expense of collecting a lot more files and doing a lot more reading of instructions. Or am I missing something?
I don't really know the difference as this is the first one I've seen that allows you to bump stock lollipop (Fresh out of the box)
As for the files, you can find them by googling "Stock D850 Kitkat firmware" >>>>KITKAT<<<< not lollipop firmware. You do not need the lollipop firmware for this method AT ALL. The video in the link I posted is an extremely good walk-through.

What are the requirements?
>>>>> LG G3 850 Running STOCK 5.0.1 Lollipop. <<<<<<
A "freshly-flashed" Stock Android Lollipop (either by fully flashing a KDZ or TOT, or by OTA update) - strongly recommended, to ensure that there is no "mix" of Kitkat and Lollipop files
Root - please follow the rooting guides from the other threads like this one

"Bump'd" TWRP Custom Recovery >>>INCLUDED IN THIS FILE <<<
Android Terminal Emulator
Busybox - make sure to open the app and you will see a loading progress indicator at the top portion. Once it completes, please click on "Install" at the bottom portion.
Root Checker - to make sure that you have Root and Busybox properly installed

does this work on mac?
no
will this lollipop bump work on other LG lollipop phones?

FW Deconstruction/ADB Flashing Help

Hello all!
Preface: I am a mobile dev, not a firmware dev, so apologies in advance for any dumb questions.
I am looking for a how-to article, or some sort of documentation to get me heading in the right direction.
The company I work for produces a custom android device. The Hardware and the FW are outsourced currently. When we get a new FW version, we use a tool called Phoenix Suite to flash the device the new FW img file.
We want to get where we could script out flashing the FW for efficiency purposes. Would love to be able to plug a USB drive in and flash automatically. So I was tasked with seeing what we could do. I can get the device into ADB Fastboot, and I can flash the different partitions. But I discovered that the img file is a compiled version of all the different parts that ADB Fastboot is needing.
So another dev and myself dug in and we found a tool called imgRePacker ... this allowed us to deconstruct the FW into FEX files, and we have identified the boot/recovery and system fex files. We are still needing to identify the drivers, if they are even in a separate file, they may be in one of the 3 already identified. And then we need to know how to repackage them into individual images so we can use ADB Fastboot to flash the device via a script. And hopefully get the same result as when using Phoenix Suite, just with a script.
Once we get this working, we will then attempt to bring the FW creation in-house rather than outsourcing that part ... but that is down the road, step one is flashing.
Hardware specifications:
Chipset is Allwinner A40 Quad Core
I appreciate any and all help in moving forward!!

General Android desktop mode can also run the Linux desktop

Hi,
We make a VolksPC Debian Linux distribution that can run as an application on top of the official Android 12 firmware. We have tested this on Android 12 Build number S1RTS32.41-20-16-1-5. You will have to unlock the bootloader for installation. WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGES TO YOUR DEVICE. Our initial plan was to base this on Lineage OS but unfortunately it doesn't have any support for Android desktop mode. Please check www.volkspc.org for a free download as well as our YouTube channel to see a video clip of this in action.
Regards
VolksPC
Looks like there is newer version, Build number S1RTS32.41-20-16-1-9 , and our release also works with it.
How does it work, does the virtual machine?
It is not a VM, it runs natively. You can think of Android as just another Linux distribution that uses a different graphics stack aka Surface Flinger. Our graphics stack is designed to work with both X11 and Surface Flinger. Our FAQ page provides more details.
It works great, thanks

Ok. It seems to me that the 3D acceleration tests are insufficient. In Termux you can run 3D applications normally and they are playable (I was running Trigger Rally). glxinfo doesn't say anything if there is 3D acceleration or not.
It is a pity that the project is not fully open source
Hi, my device is moto edge s which is a Chinese version of g100. I follow the installation steps and click `Start VolksPc desktop` button. It can't start and complains `Could not load driver`.
Check that you have successfully flashed our volkspc-boot.img . But make sure you have the original boot.img for your firmware, that way if your phone fails to boot you can go back to the original image.

Thanks, it works now. I can't find any information about flashing boot.img is needed. Is it safe?
I only know that the boot.img needs to be flashed if unlocking bootload.

Unlocking the bootloader voids your warranty but after that it is reasonably safe and easy to flash any boot.img.
