[GUIDE] How to have screen auto on/off with any "flip" case - Xiaomi Mi A1 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hey there folks!
Since MiA1 does not have double tap to wake, or you just want funcionality of waking screen and be ready to go with ANY flip case you
might have bought (and screen off when you close it) here is a simple guide to achive so, i have been testing it for 5 days and so far it works flawlessly.
So far im getting only 1% of battery usage overall, meaning the app itself is NOT keeping CPU awake, only the proximity sensor to determine if the case
is closed or not. Really battery friendly overall. Dont know the bad reviews on PlayStore - people moan about anything these days and app does not
work well with any device, but with A1, its a bingo.
1. remove your lockscreen security (set to none) - this is up to you! If you have your phone with you at all times, it
removes the need to do extra steps (draw pattern, PIN, etc...). If you prefer to open case and be taken to locksceen, skip this step!
2. install "EveryCover" DOWNLOAD - !app is add supported! - also, there is paid version which i have so i support the dev, but free one works just as well!
- enter ap and activate the service (works by using Device Admin)
- tick "Auto start at Boot" - so service keeps running after restart
- tick "Service in notification bar" - it will prevent app to be killed by system - more on that later!
- you can even set the time period in which app is inactive (ex. - when you sleep at night)
3. Test the funcinality. Just open and close your case, like you normally would (not 2 times in 1 secs, right ). In my testing of daily usage it almost never "misses".
The screen on is almost instant when you flip the case and screen is set to off after 1 sec of closing case. I tested many many times to see if the screen really switches off, and it
works great. I will also mention that it seems to work even in almost pitch dark (!) and no problems on indoors on evenings etc... It seems that the app is really good at listening to
sensor, or we have a really good proximity sensor on A1!
OPTIONAL STEPS:
Now if you are perfectionist or just like me, 2 things may bother you with this setup, and i will also explain steps how to deal with them.
4. persistant notifications - if you enabled "Service in notification bar" there will be constant notification which may bother you. To deal with this, just long press
on the notification and switch the toggle to the right. (or you can go to app settings and do the same, turn off notifications)
5. "EveryCover running in the background" notification - the last problem you may encounter, altho only the visual one, can be pain to watch. To disable this notification just download this app:
HERE!
Just enter app, grant permission, select "Press to select apps" and choose EveryCover.
You are done! This way, you have:
- working screen on/off solution for ANY flip case
- clean status bar without unnecessary notifications
- persistant service that will NOT be killed by system or after restart
- all that with only 1% of battery usage and no impact on performance what so ever.
Dislclaimer; I am not a dev of any apps mentioned here.
Cheers, hopefully this helps someone!

Magnetic wake / sleep works if you can find a case with magnet placed at correct place built in case.
Phone wakes and sleeps when opened or shut automatically with this feature. Don't be confused with smart cases as not the same thing. I'm late with this reply but works with many phone Inc all my xiaomi phones

[APP][FREE][2.2+] IntelliCover - Proximity Sensor Based Screen Control (And MORE)

Finally got my app up and running on the Market and being a die hard xda user, I thought it would only be appropriate to post it here for fellow users to enjoy. =)
IntelliCover is a utility which uses your device’s proximity sensor to control its display and allow fast and efficient access to your phone or tablet.
It turns the screen turns off automatically when you put your device in your pockets, close its flip cover, store the device in a bag, or even just leave the device facing down on a table. As soon as the device is back in your hand the proximity sensor is triggered again, the screen turns back on and your phone is instantly ready for use.
IntelliCover is more feature-filled than any other similar application on the market. And the best part? It's FREE!

*** Frequently Asked Questions ***
Q) Is it really free? Where are the ads?
Ans) IntelliCover is completely free and has no ads whatsoever!
Q) Do I require a rooted device to use IntelliCover?
Ans) Nope. IntelliCover works on all supported phones and tablets, rooted or unrooted.
Q) Doesn’t using the proximity sensor consume a lot of battery?
Ans) Actually, the proximity sensor consumes minimal power, almost little enough to be insignificant.
Q) What are the ‘Screen On’ and ‘Screen Off’ actions?
Ans) IntelliCover allows you to set events to be triggered when the screen turn on or off. For example, by setting wi-fi to turn on when your screen turns on and setting it to turn off when the screen turns off, you could save a huge amount of battery power.
Q) Can I request a feature?
Ans) Of course! Head over to the Contact section to drop me an e-mail.
Q) Why does IntelliCover keep running in the background?
Ans) It has to run in the background to know when the proximity sensor is triggered.
Q) Can I donate to the developer?
Ans) Not yet but hopefully I’ll have something set up soon.

Hello! I love the app! I just installed it, and it works great so far keep up your good work!
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using xda premium
Seems good, some questions though.
1. Is it supposed to be able to turn the screen on? Take phone out of pocket, proximity sensor detects values that indicate there's nothing near (Sorry, dunno how / what values are calculated / used) and viola, screen on?
2. Dunno if I've set it up incorrectly. But, currently, if I turn on my screen, via the power button (Sony Xperia S), the stock lockscreen will show, and either one of two things will happen. Either I unlock it successfully, and the split second I'm completing the unlock, the phone will screen off, and engage the lockscreen - after unlocking this, can I get into my phone. OR it'll do what I've previously mentioned, without input.

Yup, it turns the screen on as well. The values are pretty much just FAR and NEAR for most proximity sensors, so once it detects that there's no object close to it, it should turn the screen on. If it's not turning on at all, that might be the root of the problem i.e. it might be causing the unlock issue as well...Hmmm...I checked out your phone specs and since you said "stock lockscreen", I think it's safe to assume you're on the stock ROM but are you still on Gingerbread? If so, that partially explains the issue. Some Gingerbread ROMs have compatibility issues with the app that are very similar to what you've described, I have no idea why but I'm still looking into it. I had to fix ALOT of Gingerbread issues to get it working this far lol. If you're not on GB though, I guess I need to hunt for an Xperia and begin testing/debuggin. :fingers-crossed:
HUGE update released! V2.0 Hope you all like it. =)
Thanks a lot for sharing your app, it looks grate but unfortunately it is not working with my Galaxy note 10.1

I like it! Works fine in my SII stock rom. It will be perfect if i could enable a sound notification when turns off the screen. Not really necessary but cool 4 me (car unlock beep-beep)
Thanks mate!
Frank
thanks for the update
working good.
I'm working on adding a widget and changing the design, but if anyone has any better suggestions, I'd love to hear them because design is not as important as functionality.
Love it. great app, and working fine on both my LG Optimus 3D and Samsung Galaxy Note II.
could we have a choice on the notification icon, would be nice to have a small black dot or something. i just like a empty notification bar but understand the need for it to actually be in the notification bar
thanks
other than that this is my fav ap on my phone
won't this drain battery

Yea, it's unfortunate that foregrounding requires the notification icon. You could try using the app without foregrounding, it works for some people. Adding more notification icons should be easy, won't take much time. =) Which ones do you think I should add? A small black dot would disappear on most black status bars (but it'll look like there's an empty space in the status bar so it'll look a little weird)...

The proximity sensor uses very little battery and the app itself is pretty light (4-5MB RAM). So far I've only gotten one deep sleep complaint out of 3500+ downloads but no battery issues.
im fine with the black dot, it will keep my bar looking empty

Finally! Found a way to completely remove the icon and the notification from the status bar when the app is foregrounded. It'll be in the next update (today or tomorrow). It can still be enabled manually from the Notifications section but yea, enjoy the emptiness of your status bar. xP
Pretty Huge Update. Hope you like it!
Version 3.0
-Added Screen On Fix for some phones (Enable in settings)
-Status Bar Notification/Icon will no longer automatically show up when app is foregrounded.
-Added Pocket Mode
-Added Table Mode
-Added Widget
-Fixed Screen On/Off Actions bug
One thing I notice (which is NO WHERE CLOSE to a big deal)
The launcher I use (Nova) I hide the status bar and use a gesture to bring it down. When ever Intellicover turns the screen on, the status quickly shows itself and then goes back hidden, not more than a half second of this, but I cannot select anything on the screen until after that status bar thing happens
I like the concept of the app, and it works fine with my sensors. I have one complaint though, I don't like how when the phone screen turns on, it opens to the Intellicover App. Sure I can set it to go to the home screen, but I don't always want that. Once Intellicover is running, I don't want to ever see it again unless I manually launch it from the app drawer. If I have Chrome open and I have to suddenly put my phone down or in my pocket, I'd like to pull my phone back out and have Chrome still be on the screen, just like happens now using the sleep button.
Turns my dumb flip cover on my note 2 into a smart cover. Thanks

Actually, that shouldn't be happening. Once set you never have to see it again. I'm not quite sure what could be triggering this but if you could provide a little information about the OS/phone model/etc. I could try to get a hold on the device and try to replicate the error...

[Q] Z3 Dual D6633 + Lollipop: from heaven to Hell

Sony xperia Z3 Dual D6633 Android 5.0.2 Build 23.1.1.E.0.1
Hi there,
Upgraded my Z3 to lollipop last week and, despite the fact that the upgrade itself was flawless, I think I went from a device that used to work like a charm to one full of annoyances.
On day #1, noticed the batt drain skyrocket. 3h after disconnecting it, it was at 68%, half way through the morning. WTF? was my first thought. On a typical day on kitkat, I was able to end the day at 40% at least.
The second thing I´ve noticed was the phone app. It starts giving me errors, saying that the "network could not be reached" when I try to dial a number. If I insist for 4, 5 more times, it crashes. Dialing is only possible again if I reset the phone.
The third thing is the lock screen. It seems that lollipop has a drop down menu that makes it possible to enable/disable lots of things, like communications and even setting the phone in airplane mode. Imho that´s a huge liability / security risk and it appears that there is no way around that.
Still about the lock screen, it seems to have a bug: if you have any activesync account setup, not notifications will show up, no matter how you configure it (to show all or hide sensitive content).
So, I had only one thing to do, after reading forums etc... factory reseting it.
Surprise! All problems are still there.
Does any1 have any tips on those?
Thanks in advance.
There will be a widget on one of the screens which keeps refreshing itself and I found that to be the battery killer on my 6603.
Did you use any specific app to pinpoint the culprit?
1. It is possible that the battery levels are calibrating and will be imprecise for a while after the update, using the device normally for a couple of days will fix it, or at least this is what I observed in many phones I owned.
2. This is very weird and I can't help you with. If not even factory reset did help you may have some corrupted data on one of your contacts maybe? Try to make a thread about this issue on the Sony forum.
3. I noticed that as well, but even on pervious versions you could turn off the phone so I don't think it changes anything. Make sure to disable the multi user options that would allowanyone to add a new user from the lock screen.
4. Another weird thing, I use exchange accounts on my phone and I don't have any problem on mine. See point 2.
Under
settings>sound and notifications>when device is locked
Set to hide sensitive notification content or don't show notification content at all.
This should fix lock screen displaying email notifications from your exchange account.
Also, unlock phone, pull down notifications, pull down again to reveal quick settings, hit the edit button (pencil) and remove icons but clicking and holding and drawing them to the top. Unfortunately this removes them even when phone is unlocked but of your worried about unauthorised toggling of things on off its the best you can do I think.
As for battery drain, check the battery usage in
Settings>power management
Make sure stamina mode is on, toggle it off then on to make sure.
Select battery usage and check to see if any apps are using more than they should. Make sure brightness is set low but enable adaptive brightness under display settings.

That's not a smartphone anymore, with all functions shut down and brightness low.
This phone has the best screen, use it at least 50% brightness.
I have no issues with the brightness down. It bumps up nicely in brighter conditions and will even max out in daylight. If I ever need it brighter then it's easy to boost temporarily. It's a small price to pay for nearly 24 hours of battery with 5 hours screen on time.
I never mentioned shutting down functions. The only thing I mentioned removing was the toggles that concerned the op on the quick settings. Removing mobile data and aeroplane mode from quick settings hardly cripples the device, I never use these anyway.
I don't think it very useful that there's not more customisation available here such as a complete set of separate lockscreen settings. But if all you can do is comprise then what else can you suggest?
I don't think unlocking the bootloader and installing a custom ROM is something the op wants to do.

You said stamina.
Stamina means already some functions off.
Update:
1. Batt drain
Remains without an explanation. My daily use profile is basically the same as before the update. 3PM and I am at 28%, with stamina on. I can´t recall a day, running kitkat, that I would hit the charger at night with 28% of batt remaining (and I still have 4h to go). It was always on 40% ish. GSAM is reporting that 47% of the batt drain is caused by apps and, from that, 30% is represented by android core apps + android system + kernel. I might be wrong, but I think it is related to reindexing, contact + agenda sync etc and it will probably get lower eventually (I hope!)
2. Phone App giving errors
I think I have isolated the problem. It seems to be caused by TrueCaller.
3. Lock screen
Regarding the drop down menu, It is clear now that what I think is a problem is, in fact, by design and there is no way around it without rooting. But regarding the notifications, I just removed both activesync accounts and I started getting notifications in the lock screen again. So, my guess is that there is a policy of some sort that is being interpreted by the phone as it should hide all notifications from the lock screen.
In fact, there are lots of things that got blocked / disabled because of those policies. Here is a list of things that were disabled and now appear to be working again, after the removal of the activesync accounts:
. notifications are showing again in the lock screen;
. smart lock;
. screen lock options (none, swipe, pattern);
note: I thought that I would be able to enable services in Accessibility, like LastPass or App Advisor by Norton, but it still does not work (I try to enable any of them, but pressing "ok" on the warning dialog does nothing and the only option working is "cancel").
Thinking about resetting it again...
Hi, if problems are persistant you can always downgrad software at KitKat by using FlashTool and wait Lollipop 5.1 (5.1 will probably solve many problems).

A new firmware version has dropped for the Z3 which I think fixes your issues with notifications.
I received it OTA yesterday, I'm running the Balkans customisation.
Thank you for the tip! I hope it does! Will keep it posted here just for the reference. I am starting to feel other "symptoms" as well, like bluetooth instability (you pair a device and it stops working, have to pair again).
.
Just hit another weird thing.
I am not being able to create a new vpn connection. I am trying to use the PureVPN and IPVanish client software, but when I try to setup the conection, I receive a disclaimer, saying that my traffic might be monitored, with a "CANCEL" and "OK" options. The OK doesn´t work, only "CANCEL".
My device is encrypted and I have also noticed that I am not able to decrypt it.
Also, If I go to Accessibility and try to enable a service, the same thing happens: a disclaimer appears, saying that the service might observe my actions, with a "CANCEL" and "OK" options. The OK doesn´t work, only "CANCEL".
Any ideas?
Ok, just a quick fup: the ability to create VPNs from apps is disabled if you encrypt the phone. It seems that if you create if before encrypting, it won´t be disabled; but you wont be able to create a new vpn from an app downloaded, after encryption.
Regarding the Accessibility > Services, after a *lot* of research, I have found that Twilight was the culprit. For the reference:

Gear 2 Setup

Screenshot of my setup, that I find gives a good setup and also benefits by keeping the screen wake up off, but the Keep Screen Off option unchecked, meaning when you get a notification the screen comes on and then times out.
Think most including me just ticked every box and didn’t really read what each does (or was that just me) ?
Checking the box means you have to constantly press the button to wake the watch.
Oops forgot to post the image
I like to keep the screen off, but have the gesture detection on so
this is because when i am busy or in a dark room getting the watch light up is very distracting,
finally no notification is more important that whats happening in real life (for me at least)

(The old thread was locked because at the time i made the thread, it was in heavy development and now it does things the original could not and no longer is relevant, thanks mod! )
sorry but, ugly UI
Sorry you're too vain to try it....
It's simple and efficient ! One question, Wich one it's better ? Extreme saver or way more battery ?
Extreme simply means the phone never wakes up from sleep mode, the other 2 options will switch wifi/4g/bt/gps (whatever was on before the screen goes off, it will then wait 15 seconds (enough time for email/facebook/etc notification) then power down...
Inbetween wakes every 30 minutes or so, the other is more like every hour.
So if you enjoy silence (except for sms/calls) extreme will give that
One thing this app has over the majority of them is that this was written ground up, you'll find with the popular battery apps it all comes from the same source code and they all end up with shared underlying bugs...

Gracias!
OK - sorted out the task manager, the last build was shutting down the home screen build 83 (causing a 4 second delay from the top most app back to the home screen)
It now keeps it alive and the lag has gone, it was in the name of power saving but i think it was a little over kill, sorry about that, build 84 has it sorted back to full speed even after being put into deep sleep (FreeMem can be used again)
Thanks!
Jellybean fix - clean prevented youtube from running!
Anyone had any problems with this? (I'll be working on the ui soon)
Jelly bean bug sorted, clean was disabling youtube!
Alrighty then, as part of the clean up options (clean! It clears up cache files and an option to restore autostarts)
Next release will be to improve the gui! Material world design!
Material Design Update!
Any problems email me ASAP and i'll sort it out, please remember this saves your battery when screen is off! Eg go bed with 98% wake up with 97%
Any suggestions for what to add next?
How to turn off the sound when locking pphone and locking it. I already unchecked the box yet it still happenes
Sent from my LG-MS323 using Tapatalk
Untick "turn sounds on"
If you did then you never pressed the back key/exited the app/pressed start service... before the screen switches on/off (only when it exits does the settings save/update)
Its working...
I'll have it automatically save the settings with each tick you make next release
After thinking about it, with each settings change it would have to re-launch the main service via an intent, seems wasteful over simply exiting and passing all the saved changes
Which is better? Schedule (eg between 9-10am don't disable anything) or a timer (eg don't disable anything for 60 minutes)
Which is better?
Fixed a bug with keep wifi on when connected option!
New update, it handles a process kill and can distinguish between a kill and stop service command, onDestroy is fired when correctly shutdown, kill however does not do that, to my amazement when an android is shut down, every process is killed! So i had to hook a shutdown intent!
New build - crash/killed detection no more having to re run the app!

"ScreenLock Gear" in Gear app store available - lock screen/bezel/button

*** App is now suspended, since it doesn't work in Tizen 3.0 and this OS has bezel blocking feature itself. Thank you for participation in this project! ***
Hi, I created app "ScreenLock Gear", because I want to monitor my sleep with locked bezel, eliminate turning screen on by my shirt etc. The mission of this thread is to make it comfortable for all of us.
So what is it?
Simple application for screen locking (bezel/screen/button).
Add widget -> Customise -> Tap to lock -> Enjoy locked screen
I uploaded new version (2.0) to Gear store. Description of the new version:
[Widget icons]
- Please see the first image in this post.
[Features]
- Battery friendly - CPU sleeps all the time, big battery saver (there is just listener in background).
- Widget for easy locking and customise settings.
- Supports both - AOD / Display OFF (for AOD is best to set lowest time to unlock).
[New in 2.0]
- Alarm / PIN / Call compatible! It temporary suspends ScreenLock.
- Customisation in widget.
- Unlocking by bezel (right-left-right-left).
- Option to see unlocking pattern progress, including clock and time to unlock.
- HOME button will temporary disable ScreenLock (until next display turn-off)
Again, thanks for the app.
I have not been out in the rain - when I use your app to lock my Gear S3, will it keep logging my walking/hiking/etc? Or does it pause other operations.
I would prefer it you keep it simple but I'm sure others will have requests for more options.
As I wrote elsewhere, when logging walks/hikes, the strap of my hiking pole hits the Back and On buttons and it eventually terminated the logging of my hikes. So this would be a perfect way to prevent accidental touchs of the buttons or screen from changing things.
Again, THANKS.

No, the ScreenLock has no impact to any logging. Because it does simple job: When DISPLAY TURN ON, call DISPLAY TURN OFF. It is like if you set screen timeout to 0.3 sec. So it is only shortening screen timeout, having no negative impact on battery life or influence of logging.

Yes, I will add more options, but primary I want to make it more comfortable to unlock.

Yes, it can be used, but now only with screen off. S health will continue to log your trip, but you can't see your statistics until you unlock the screen, which is not so comfortable. Maybe only on long hikes. It is in my future plans to enable this app on top of another app.
Thanks for testing
Great idea, I'll give it a run! Thanks for getting this out there
Used it on a 3 mile walk this afternoon. It appears to have worked fine. Shealth still informed me of my statistics at 1, 3 and 3 miles including pace, distance and heart rate. I played with the buttons while walking and the screen stayed dark (there is the brief message "locked") and did not interrupt my hike log. This walk was not as strenuous and steep as the one last week that prematurely ended when the pole straps pressed the wrong buttons. But since I was pressing randomly, it stayed locked.
I was easy to UNlock it and then to stop Shealth's logging.
Obviously, with the screen locked I could not see what the email alerts were but that is fine. I don't have to be permanently connected to my email.
Again, THANKS.
Thanks for the app. I've found I light them room up if I hit the watch while in bed. I may see if tasker can lock the watch at a certain time and maybe even unlock it. I don't know how difficult it would be for you but adding those features would be nice additions. Again, great job and THANKS!!
Konvalink, man, this bezel wake up was making my life miserable.
IMO the app works perfectly, no bells and whistles, just shuts the thing down.
So many thanks, also on behalf of my wife who was about to file.
Love ya man
Brilliant!
Brilliant idea! Thanks.
Thank you very much for this app. Maybe you can add the the back button for lock also.
I've been using this app every night for the past several days. Only issue I have noticed is that when I move my wrist, the watchface will show for 1/2 a second or less then give the "locked" notice. Overall tho, this works great and I really appreciate you sharing it with us.
Needs Polishing
A very essential app. THANK YOU! for sharing
Observations:
1. Hotspots are visible on the AOD screen
2. Momentary "screen on " before showing number of unlock tries
3. Delay in unlocking when a notification is active
Please continue the good work. Again, thank you.

Can you please clarify? Can't I use your app if I need Pin also? I use Samsung Pay, so it's mandatory to have pin protection.

The problem is, when PIN protection is enabled, I'm not able to monitor keys or run my app, since PIN protection is killing everything because of safety reasons.
But you can use it. Locking will work. Only unlock will be harder, because app has no chance to monitor BACK key for exit. I will try to solve it somehow, but now, this unlocking would work with PIN enabled:
- Press HOME several times. This will minimise ScreenLock app, so you can write your pin.
- Then you will see black screen, press BACK several times. Otherwise the ScreenLock will start on another SCREEN ON event.
So it's not comfortable yet, but it works.

Hi, I created app "ScreenLock Gear", because I want to monitor my sleep with locked bezel, eliminate turning screen on by my shirt etc. The mission of this thread is to make it comfortable for all of us.
So what is it?
Simple application for screen locking (bezel/screen/button).
Add widget -> Tap to lock -> Enjoy locked screen -> Press BACK quickly several time to unlock.
Or set this app for HOME double-click.
[Features]
- Widget for easy locking
- Supports both - AOD / Display OFF
- Battery friendly - there is just listener in background, so CPU sleeps all the time
- Counter of locks
[Notes]
- This is alpha version, so please try it and comment your ideas
- It is not compatible with PIN protection - too hard to unlock screen
- To explain the unlock pattern - you have to press the BACK three times in sequence of time 0.1 to 0.3 sec between every press. Because if I let here more time, it will delay global locking time.
[Future plans]
- Primary: make unlocking more friendly
- Make user to select different unlocking pattern
- Ability to lock screen on current app (S health)

HI again.
i need to have one particular app permanently on screen (Skydive altimeter) during a certain period of gime (approximately 5 min ). It's essential that the bezel doesn't interfere so it would be great if your app could block it but I must see the interface of Skydive altimeter. Is it possible?
Thanks great app.please make time based lock option or lock when detect sleeping
Great app. I got 4 days of working time with AOD in red font.
About unlocking: maybe full 360 bezel movement instead of clicking back button?
Hi,
First off, thanks so much for this app, I don't understand why Samsung didn't put this type of feature directly in the gear... Anyways, I'll test this tonight and see how it goes
However, is it possible for you to add an option page where you can decice how to unlock and if we can show the number of unlock tentatives? On my end, I would prefear if the gear stayed fully off, without showing the number of tentatives.
Thanks!!
More than happy with app
I used the app a few times hiking and find it working very well. It keeps S-health's log going and the underlying S-health app does not prematurely terminate logging of my hike or walk because something (like the straps from my hiking poles) has activated the Home or Back buttons.
And even though I have Samsung Pay activated and have a password/pin your app does not interfere.
THANKS VERY MUCH.
