My display has no wide color gamut ... - HTC U11+ Guides, News, & Discussion

Hello guys
i have this phone for a week so far
i was reading that this display has wide color gamut and HDR 10
suddenly, i had a chance to compare it with LG V30+ display (which has and OLED pannel with wide color gamut support)
i made the wide color gamut test using the app DisplayTester
As you can see from the attached photo (U11+ up and the V30+ down)
and the result was it does not support the wide color gamut
Also compared to the U11 display, the U11+ display looks darker and washed out
i just wanted to share with you, maybe there is some different pannels out there..

Your V30 can't display it either since it most likely does not have Oreo (it's the bottom variant the app presents).

But it shows "android" text inside the picture
While the U11+ doesn't

Apparently hardware supports it so maybe (and just maybe) device needs firmware update.
The very same app you have posted pictures from shows that wide colour gamut is supported

No more sharpen edges
After several tests i figureout that HTC apk.... don't take any better photo =) In my samples on HTC cam apk HDR was turned on... and on the stock one OFF.
SO... If you want less sharpened pictures in AUTO mode just turn on HDR. on your stock s7 cam-app =)
Hello to all!
I love S7 and his camera... but... over-sharpening is big prob. for auto mode.
I found in this thread HTC camera that has less sharpening than stock one.
App is rudimental no fancy working options but for point & shot is working like boss!
APK link
And here are examples.. check the edges of the buildings.
I would like to see your tests... my camera is ISOCELL.

You could try shooting in pro mode. I found this post on reddit with settings/profiles to make it less sharp looking so maybe you will like this as much as i do. (click)

Nice!
I tested for couple of days... and i can say that shared HTC camera gives better results even in stock PRO mode. (in term of sharpening edges etc)
For all users that find AUTO shots over-sharpened - just try this cam
Update 1st post...
dont experience this issue at all with the S7 flat sony sensor
Uhh, the HTC cam just took a darker photo so the halo around building edges was less obvious. Look at the other details. Sharpening is the same. Shoot Pro mode + RAW if you don't want any post-processing.
Turning on HDR is no solution for the over sharpening. It's a totally different kind of thing.
HDR can help in some situations (mostly those with dark and light in one frame), but on many situations I recommend not using HDR , especially indoors.
Also when you turn on HDR lots of people have this pinkspot problem so on the samsung sensor so HDR isn't that good.

In PRo mode you still have sharpening on edges but less... RAW is oK.

is there another app for video , With less sharpened video ?
Yes, luckily there is - called "Cinema 4K". Unfortunately, it doesn't support 3840x2160 for "4K" in conjunction with the S7 but the rather obscure resolution of 3264x2448 instead.
Biggest advance is the possibility to completely turn off any sharpening or noise reduction so one gets a way more "filmic" result.

do you know if Htc u11 supports hdr videos from you tube?
No. It does not. It's a hardware feature.

No, XZP has LCD as well. So perhaps it's my fault to say "U11 won't get it". Perhaps U11 will get it.
I looked for the criterias to get HDR content on smartphone screen, I did not see any critical hardware/software regulation or something.
It's probably Google rolled this out for a small amount of phone models, and more to come.

In the photography world it's certainly not a screen dependant thing. Of course a display with a wider colour gamut will reap more benefits from HDR, but in theory it should work on any screen unless I'm missing something.
But I'm going to guess it'll be some weird marketing thing to make people buy certain phones and displays. But for what it's worth my Canon 6D takes HDR pictures and I can certainly notice the difference on my old Samsung TN panel, as well as a 10bit IPS panel...
Sadly it seems the market is turning it into an elite function where by you'll need a HDR panel, which to me sounds like a wide colour gamut/contrast ratio/jacked up brightness...
I'm guessing YouTube functions on a unique device tag, or device tag entirely, so custom ROMs should be able to change the marker to enable it on YouTube.
E.g. my brother's OP3 is recognised as a S8 on YewToob so he can view 1440p content...I'm guessing HDR videos should work too as the S8 supports the feature? If so I'll check when I get in tonight if this is the case.

I have a solution for this it's very easy and simple all you have to do is download YouTube vanced
I accidentally found it because they didn't mention it they only mentioned the capability of override the 1440p to 4k so we can watch 4k and it does it but no one heard of the hidden option that will allow you to force HDR
well I'm here to help forgive me because it's my first time to reply anyway
1 install it and bla bla bla u know the rest of the settings
now just like how to activate the developer option in Android this app has hidden developers option just go to IYBT SETTINGS and tap on about multiple times u will see that the developer option is unlocked refresh and stop the app completely go back to the app go override option and boom congratulations now u have HDR activated
THANK U

Lowlight camera purple glare

Can someone check if their OP6 shows a purplish glare while focusing dark objects in low light enviroment?
It only does this in low light, and only while it is focusing. During daytime or normal light doesn't show any purplish glare.
Thanks!!!

No, there is no dark purple hue in dark areas of my photos.
Your camera may be defective or you installed some kind of an app that does that.
OP will ask you to reset the phone, if you asked for support. But first try to reset the camera app?

Did you happen to purchase your phone from an Asian retailer or in an Asian country?

I have this purple effect too... sometimes it disappears with the processing and sometimes it doesn't... But it's not really bothering me...it only shows in really dim situations and I rarely take photos at that time

Me too. I think that is a problem software
I'm not sure. I got some raw format images with the purple effect. I believe that one of the sensor is defective and then affects the image processing, increasing noise.

Pixel 3 Features on Pixel 2 and Older devices

Hi Everyone,
I figured i'd directly ask and see what Pixel 3 features will be made available to Pixel 2 and Pixel devices by contacting Customer Support. The following has been listed and emailed to me directly:
Hello, this email is in reference to our conversation we had regarding the Pixel 3 features will will also be available for Pixel 2 and Pixel 1 devices.
Face Retouching, Google Lens, Mode switcher / carousel, Night mode, Playground (AR stickers), Slow motion video, VR Panorama will be available for all the devices.
Photobooth, Subject tracking auto focus, Super res zoom, Top Shot, Wide angle front camera will not be available for Pixel 2 and Pixel 1 both.
Motion Photos will not be available for Pixel 1 only but this feature will be available for Pixel 2.
Call Screen option and Digital Wellbeing will also be available for all the devices.
As of now, the information has updated and these features will be rolled out for Pixel 2 and Pixel 1 as soon as possible.
I'll update you further with all the information and feature which will be available in future.
I hope this helps!!!
I can't understand why top shot won't be available for the pixel 2. I mean wide angle was obviously not coming. Although I am made up that night sight is coming
as of right now, u can sideload latest gcam with new UI manually, just get the apk at apkmirror site. i have tested it for today, quite stable no issues. With new gcam, u can adjust the bokeh effect and color pop, although its not always perfect same like pixel 2 portrait mode that we gotten used to.

Seriously? I would never buy a phone without a notification LED. The Pixel 2's is already horrible. You can barely see it. I don't get why that would be a huge deal to include.
I don't feel that a notification LED is required anymore... The Always on Display shows notifications much better and, in my case as least, has a negligible impact on battery.

Conversely I find the notification LED, with different colours for different apps, quite useful: easier to see from a distance, and once the message text disappears from the AOD the LED colour is easier to distinguish than a little icon on a dim display. To be honest, I'd rather have LED and no AOD than vice-versa.
Different people have different preferences.
Do you believe playing on Google Stadia will work on Pixel 2? Gaming only works for Pixel 3/3a, other devices can only make purchases and such.

One plus 6 display not sharp enough

So I received my one plus 6 today. After setting up, I open play store and all the icons of different apps looks little off as if they are of low quality. Further I look closely at the fonts...they too were off.... like little blurred and not sharp enough. The status bar icon were also not sharp enough as in my brothers poco f1. As if the display is of low resolution. So, Is it how the display of one plus 6 is, is this how AMOLED displays are (never used one before) or I got a faulty piece...?

Bro I am just asking you to check the channels DP displayed next to the title of videos in home feed of the youtube app. In my one plus 6 the icons looks pretty distorted as if they are low resolution. Almost every pic (snapshots of videos) and channel pic I see in youtube app looks distorted/low quality. I just want you to check it on your device ..do you see any distorted/low res channelpics/text/video thumbnails when you look little closely ? There's no need to post it here because if my display is faulty then no matter what ever I see in it..... it will look distorted.

Yes pixelated thumbnail. Thats the same pixleted app icons I'm seeing on play store as well if you look little closely. Even the clock widget placed on home screen is not sharp enough (pixleted edges) if you look closely. And even the screen boundary is little pixeleted (not smooth) around the corner and edges of notch if you look closely especially in app with white status bar like instagram. Please confirm it to me.
