Best umi z Rom ??? - UMi Z ROMs, Kernels, Recoveries, & Other Developme

I dont know whats the best and newest stabel rom for the umi z. I found. Umi z lite, Noa MM and Nougat. Gemini. Or the Original ? Can anyone give a answer pls

I would love to know that too. I've seen a few ROM's that seem to be better than the Umi Z Stock Rom. However, with the 7.1.1 Lite ROM it's almost impossible to read the user experiences, because it's on a Russian platform, so I have to rely on the quality of Google Translate.
For me, I've experienced the following issues on the stock ROM (latest OTA of MM) ;
- sometimes the sound stops working (alarms, ringtone & music etc.) and I have to restart the device to make it work again.
- video's don't have the best quality
- the camera is barely usable on third party apps (Snapchat, Google Camera), because they cannot change the ISO values? (or so UMI says) Result: very dark video's / photo's
- the phone sometimes heats up to a point that I have to stop using it in order to let it cool down again. I don't know if this could be solved by software tho, maybe it's just a hardware problem...
- connectivity > in the supermarket / stores the connectivity is really bad. I have zero signal. With this, I also don't know if it's software/hardware.
- Bluetooth > Very short range before it starts to sound really bad
Did anyone have these problems too with the stock ROM and did the custom ROM worked for you to solve these problems? Also, what issues have occurred on the custom ROM? I would also like to know what ROM has the best battery performance.
I'm sorry for this long post, I just really want to find out, like Dobberman, what the best custom ROM is for this phone (cuz for me the stock ROM crashes / has a lot of problems)
Thanks in advance.

So I am as much as you. I've read all sorts of reports from users of all the roms out there. But I must confess that the best Rome is still the last floor nougat. On the nougat rom I then flash some tools like greenify and make build.prop settings. After that she runs real solid. The reception is not the best on the phone, but Build.prop tweaks can improve things a bit. So I actually received quite a good reception. In shops, he is not so great, but usually sufficient. Have now actually tested all available roms.

can you outline what tweaks you made to the build.prop setings?

So you are now using the Umi stock Nougat ROM with tweaks? I've read a lot of problems about the Android 7.1.1 update on Umi Z (having to restart after flight mode etc).
Did you try any of the custom ROMS? What problems did occur to you when you tried them?
I've never done anything with build.prop settings, so I'm not quite sure if that would be an option for me..

I don´t have anything Problems whit the Stock Rom.
At the beginning I also had problems with the stock rom. But I could fix it by simply flashing all of Rome's releases with the flash tool via firmware upgrade without having to start the phone until I had installed them all after each other. (also the beta version) After that everything worked well for me. Only I do not get more than 4-5 hours of screen on time. No matter what I do, but that will simply be due to the processor ... you can not really adjust this. I tried everything.
The custom roms are just so that most have a very bad camera. The battery life is usually not much better than the normal Stock Rome. Otherwise, I have not been able to detect big bugs.
As long as we do not get source code, it will not change much, I think.
Edit: you can See my sot. I test whit amplifiy. Powernap ans other tools like xposedandroidtools. And also you can See the green signal all the time.

Based on what you said, I've decided to upgrade the ROM to Android 7.1.1. The performance / speed is a lot better on this ROM and thus far I have not experienced any lagg or apps that stopped working; which is a relieve. However, the quality of the camera seem to have dropped and there is a greenish tint on it. Also, on third party apps it is still too dark to make pictures / video's.
Are the mentioned tweaks the ones to fix these problems? Or did you install another camera? I've seen the Lenovo and HTC camera in other threads about the Umi Z. I hope you can help me

Great hehe. I can say thats not a camera APP Problem. You update the Software From the Start rom, whit the flash tool as Firmware upgrade. And you will See the Problem gone. I have this find out as i flashet the Rom back and forward many times and testet the Rom differents. From all original umi z Roms. DL all original umi z roms and flash it. Dont Start it. Finish The last flash and you can Start it.

What do you mean with " install all the ROMS?" Isn't it true that I only have to install the latest ROM (V7.01.20170711). Are you telling me that if you flash this ROM (instead of OTA), that the greenish tint in the camera and the dark camera in third party apps will be gone? I honestly don't understand how that could be possible. I've had the same issue with the dark camera in all the previous OTA versions. Only the green tint occurred in the 7.1.1 ROM

download all official roms and flash all with the flash tool from umidigi with firmware upgrade. Begin with the first version of the umi z cellphone. Until you arrived at the last version. then you can start the mobile phone. No cam probs more

I did these changes to build.prop

ro.com.android.mobiledata=yes
persist.radio.mobile.data=9,9
ro.mtk_world_phone_policy=1
resulted in a much better signal from mobile provider. 4G reception vastly improved. Thanks Marly97

[Q] Why update to GB?? when froyo was so stable?

6 months of using a rock solid stable rom xxkb3 (stock), I had only 1 issue that I needed Gb update that is few new apps only work on GB such as equalizer a great app for music but that too is buggy on GB, it produces tik tak tuk (static sound) on an ideal phone.
I finally updated to xxkpm based custom rom with all those fancy stuff now I observe that the phone is lagging in camera/ phonebook, messeging etc, battery backup is almost same as froyo many version of GB are having problem with following.
high battery drain
WIFI connection drops
In sleep mode, data connection stops working
push mail notification does not work
gtalk/skype video chat does not work
car bluetooth connection drop (phonebook download issue)
I wonder what was this whole GB noise all about, to me version number are just numbers & they don't necessarily mean better stable rom than Froyo.
So I am wondering whats the gain in updating to GB accept that you get a new FW which is still buggy in many areas.
Namaless specifically mentioned that GB is buggy & ditched the development on gb & based his custom rom on xxkb3.
Those who are with GB & prefer GB various version can you tell me what is better in GB that is making you use GB for your daily use? please list features which you think was not available in froyo on i9003
You can see the different here..
http://www.differencebetween.com/difference-between-android-2-2-froyo-and-android-2-3-gingerbread/
Ya...you are right. But it depends on ur preferanace. I dont need wifi, gmail sync (i do it manually), vdo chat. I just use themes, 2g net, lots of fun apps, latest mods like 10 lockscreens, 14 toggles, kernal related mods. This is our normal user view.
But if u ask any developer especially kernal developers then they will definitely 1st go for gb because source codes are more simpler & gives developer more modification in kernal & whole rom. The problems which u have mentione can be solved in cm7. Regarding vdo calling I have hopes from doomlord. He has kernal & device driver's knowledge.
1. I had problem with WiFi (not as others have), but it was solved with help of copying WiFi settings from Froyo. Now it works well for me
2. Battery drain is the same for me now (Before I was using OsmanFansRom v1.2.1, now CianogenMod7). Look at the image (I used it very small today). As you can see it uses battery with the same speed as on Froyo. Draining depends of usage). When I listen music all time through bluetooth it can work only 12 hours. but it's good for mp3 players, isn't it?
3. Never use this (I don't need email at my phone, I always near PCs), And never checked it
4. I use skype very seldom (and only for chatting). BTW in Froyo Video doesn't work too
5. I'm using stereo bleotooth all day long (listening music, speaking and so on). I never had problem with it. I don't know may be car's bluetooth is different, but I don't think so.
Pluses I received from CM7: It's very customizable, It's very easy to apply themes, it's very good looking for me, and I like to use it even now (when it's beta). I like effects OldTV, showing messages in the top bar, unlock effects, and so on.

My reason (apart from the stability), is videocalls. I needs videocalls every day, and this I can only get in Froyo. I only can do videocalls using Tango, and only in Froyo. The other aps (Fring, Oovoo and Skype) in Froyo, and all the apps (includind Tango) in ginger doesn't work. The issue is the same, flickering with the front camera, FC doesn't work well.
I would use ginger because it is more customizable and has things like CRT effect, but I need videocalls, and that only I can do it in froyo and with tango ....
froyo's ancient man!
would u buy a samsung galaxy s 3 years from now,or buy a much better phone for the same price even though u now gs1 is rock stable and solid?
I don't understand you, sorry for my english, but I bought this phone, and I want i9003 give me everything i9003 can do (including videocalls)
GB is better!!!!
Ya man u r right froyo was stable....gingerbread is also stable for normal use....
I felt the following changes-
Speed(u have to agree its fast and smooth)..
More customizable...new and better rom's from developers
Its neat...less lag...better quadrant....more games support..etc

Probably YES since phone to me is a tool to be used for my daily work, life, enjoyment, education etc, The last phone I used was 6 years old moto works like a charm even now, I am not those kinds who are after the latest & greatest & most fashionable phones no matter what the specs may be.
Prime importance for me is, can the phone make me more productive in day to day work/ life, if yes then I will go for it.

Yes due to many new mods its less laggy, but I experienced the same lag in one of the custom rom I tried, now I have changed to another one & will see if it really is a power horse or lags exactly the same way.
So you are saying, "many GB update released and they all crap". That's against the logic why we need updates? Why softwares need updates? Why updates are needed?
First of all stability isn't everthing for hardwares but for sure it's a very important thing. Updates can provide many abilities to hardwares which previous versions can't do. Updates are for to improve performance, efficiency, stability, ergonomics, friendliness. However this doesn't happen as expected and create new problems. And it continues to the time a better solution is arrived.
As for me. I'm using XXKPN.
I can't even use GPS in froyo - Works perfectly now.
I charged my phone everyday - Charging in 2-3 day period.
Lags, self reboots - No lag, no reboot.
Touch sensivity is not bad - After using KPN I say it's perfect.
It takes hours to load phonebook - Loads very very faster now.

No I don't mean that GB is crap, but its still far from being bug free for daily (heavy) usage of various features. Wifi connection dropping is the latest thing which is bugging users. I have faced a bluetooth bug with 2 custom roms they don't work well with car bluetooth & hang at phonebook download but never finishes it thus the music streaming interrupts after 15 sec.
Since I have only used xxkpm whereas xxkpn was released after that may be it sorts out many bugs which I am facing.
The biggest reason for my upgrade is HD playback. This single reason is enough for me.
I think overall Gb is good, I also never have WiFi problem.

Hd video shot with the camera always played smooth in froyo. Hd encoded with certain codec had problems for which I used mobo player.

I updated XXKPN from XXKPE. I heard that many user faced with wifi and 3g issues but I didn't. I don't really know why but small differences on variables can cause various effects on usage. Anyway, it's sensible to use latest software.

But it will not play smooth or through hardware decoding. Now I just download 720 movie and enjoy directly without thinking for converting.

Why did i update?
- Froyo crashes every 2-3 days for me. Gingerbread works perfectly.
- Better battery in Gingerbread
- Feels 'smoother' than Froyo
- .flv files actually play
i have the same problem with GB

Hi.
Are you sure you have the same problem as I had? No one before had this problem on this forum.
in the attach my fix to copy settings files. You have to apply this file in the CWM (before applying be sure you have mounted /system partition).
Edit: here is description of my problem. BTW I don't have this problem with ICS ROMs (CM9 or MIUI4)

I must say hello again to the high speed wifi connection through my phone

Stock vs SourcE vs Maximus

Looking for a stable daily driver for my friend whom I am giving my phone to, now that I have a nexus 5 almost here.
She needs something stable. This phone has ran Cyanogen for a while and I just wouldnt feel comfortable giving it to her with the finicky data, odd call problems from time to time, etc.
So, in terms of stability over features, which would you recommend?
SourcE is maximus with some tweaks. Nothing very special, so the stability isn't really modified. But you have some interesting tweaks in SourcE: better quality pictures, better sound, gif recording, etc.
So I think you can give to your friend your One S with SourcE 2
Envoyé de mon HTC One S en utilisant Tapatalk
Maximus.
The "better picture quality" and "gif recording" can be flashed using pirlano and TheEndHK's camera mod. Better sound quality produced by V4A is also downloadable. The only thing i wanted more from maximus are tweaks, though we can use xposed framework and sense 5 toolbox module.
But you can never go wrong with both source and maximus since both of them uses the same updated firmware..

Being as I have never used Maximus or SourcE, how does it compare to stock? Same issues with screen on lag as other 3.4 roms? Signal stability compared to stock?

It is comparable to stock, not the 3.4 roms. Meaning, no lag and signal is good.
I do find it irritating that with the new firmware you need to use the modified twrp which will cannot mount usb storage. Also the backup feature can put your backups in the wrong directory. So you have to move them for them to show up.
So for me, it is just the recovery that I don't like.

If you like aosp, CM 10 is very stable, and particularly light ... which makes it quite responsive and quick. If she would prefer sense, then stock 4.1 will be absolutely trouble free. I use rom cleaner to strip out all the bloat, which makes the stock rom fly. In my experience, most women want stability over anything else ... they just want things to work.

Gotcha. Someone stated that Maximus and SourcE are comparable in stability. Wondering what issues are apparent, compared to stock. I wish Dev's would dedicated a 1st or 2nd post to list of known issues. :-\

Some have had pretty good success with Maximus, and for the most part stable. Others have had some glitches along the way, and they simply won't be as stable as the Stock RUU. My One S has been rooted and s-off since day one ... and I have tried all the major custom roms. It doesn't bother me when something goes wrong, because I know how to fix it. My wife, however, really gets upset when glitches occur on her phone, so we keep it simple, stable ... everything just works. I might add that the T-Mobile Stock RUU is no slouch ... it runs very well.

That would be wonderful if it were to happen, but unfortunately HTC has turned it's back on the One S. There will most likely be some custom 4.4 roms, but once again it will be difficult to make them completely stable. I am seriously thinking about moving on to the Moto X, and giving my One S a well deserved rest ... it's been a great phone!

Maximus is completely a stock HTC One S 4.2.2 RUU but just you've to install it via manual RUU installation method so it is a bit trouble. SourcE is based on Maximus with little necessary and very important tweaks, they are pretty much the same, I'll strongly prefer SourcE.
You have to install this "Maximus/SourcE RUU" via command prompt and there are just too many noobs around and some probably need to go for English lessons because they fail to read the procedure every time so they never flash it successfully. But remember your One S has to be a S-OFF device to do that.
To the stability problem, there are radio bugs in Maximus/SourcE but that is HTC fault, nothing wrong to the rom developers. This is a case to case by bias, personally I don't have any problem at all. You have to try it out because we don't know if the radio compatible to your carrier network or not.
1. Some got very poor in-call volume
2. Some got mobile data slow problem
3. Some got mobile signal weak problem
Basically, that's all the problem listed but I don't meet any single one. The radio 1.20 in Maximus/SourcE does working with my Hong Kong carrier network quite well. You can flash older radio like 1.1x to fix all above problem but it will create a random data disconnection bug.

Appreciate you going into all the detail, but these issues are exactly what many people are trying to avoid with their One S. That is why we were talking about what our better halves were not willing to tolerate.
Same as @TheEndHK, i don't have those issues as well, in fact the in call audio volume on mine is much louder than when i was on viper. The 1.20 radio brought me much stronger wifi signal and stability on mobile data, though some places i have full network coverage became weaker but not that much. Not all of us experienced those issues, and you won't know that if you will or will not experience it either if you haven't tried it yourself.

The Lollipop Experience thread

Post your experience with Lollipop on the Note 3; things you like, things that are different, problems you have had, solutions you have found., so that others can benefit.
I've tried two ROMS based on the leak, echoes and flex. I really like many of the features, but I have reverted back to KitKat for now.
It seems many of the TV-watching applications, such as Disney XD, Cartoon Network, etc. do not support Lollipop yet. For me, they crash on video playback. I ran into at least one game, Crossy Road, that crashes too.
I also had a strange issue with WIFI. I could connect to my 2.4 Ghz band just fine, but could not even see the 5Ghz access point. After I reverted to KitKat it was fine.
When ROMS based on the official release for my region come out, I will try again
@burtcom is it possible to revert back from lollipop?
Can you root it? What about xposed framework?

Yes -- I ran into a few problems but I managed it.
Essentially I downloaded a KitKat rom from Sammobile, then flashed with Odin. I ran into an issue with the flash, and had to reflash with a PIT file.
That gave me a stock KitKat, which I then had to root by flashing CF-Auto-Root-hlte-hltexx
Finally I flashed philz_touch_6.13.0 for recovery
Took all morning yesterday. I found a few threads on XDA which helped a lot, I'll see if I can dig them up.
I flashed the leak and other than the odd bit of stutter it's been as solid, if not more than kitkat.
One of my favourite new features is the trusted devices. I keep my phone pin locked but I can now set it so I can just swipe to unlock if my smart watch or Bluetooth hands free is connected. I walk out of range and it pin locks again.

xposed will not work with Lollipop, unfortunately.
I liked it so far but until Sammy release the source code then we are limited with mods. The leak is solid with some expected bugs but with more releases it will surpass kit Kat very quickly. ..
I went back kit Kat though just cause no official room is our yet and I like xposed framework mods. ...

I am very happy and have been since the first leak. Encountered no issues whatsoever, experiencing much better battery life, and other than a fee complaints (white menus etc) it's a solid improvement that makes this feel like a new and improved phone.
I do miss Xposed, but I mainly used it for battery tweaks and notification bar shading, which Lollipop resolves for me anyway.
I've been using Echoe ROM for the past month and I'm very pleased with it.
For me battery life is better than it was with Kitkat, Touchwiz works properly and I've not gone back to Nova.
There are a few things you need to get used to like interruptions, but all in all its an improvement over Kitkat.
As soon as some of the apps catch up with Lollipop it will be perfect.
hi thinking to try lollipop, so what is the most stable rom and less bugs?
I installed the leak on 1st release and found it awesome much better than KK.
However once I got my LG G Watch R for Xmas it was a total disaster
My watch would not stay paired for love nor money rendering it almost useless as a smart watch
I would go back to lollipop in a heartbeat if it worked with my watch ok.
Long story short.
Pros:
+ the thing is DAMN fast.
+ me gusta material design.
+ yes, better battery life.
+ the insane multitasking added from the Note 4. It's like that the Alt+Tab has an Alt+Tab.
Cons:
- WHAT THE **** IS WITH ALL THAT WHITE ON AN AMOLED SCREEN
- Did I mention the white all over the place? And the cyan? That color scheme can make me poke my eyes out just for s**ts and giggles. Don't mistake me, I like the design, but the color scheme is hideous.
- While overall navigation, opening apps and the such, IS fast, Recent Apps can have a bit of an odd delay.
- No Xposed yet. :/ Well, rovo89 warned us we might have to wait.
Also, I must commend Samsung with the Troll OEM of the year award for updating the N900 and the I9500 to Lollipop before any of the Note 4 variants.
P.S. I also hope to all gods that Samsung f***ing implemented Ultra Power Saving Mode that doesn't need a mod to be made available. Such a mode should be made available for any device with an OLED screen.
to all who flashed official 5.0 (XXUEBOA6) by odin, can you check your bootloader version? thank you so much.
Installed the BLN8 which ran fantastic, but what the hole is wrong with the battery usage??? It drane 20% an hour, just laying in my pocket!
Installed CM12 which is awesome, but waiting for a stable Sammy firmware so I can get my S-view functionality back.
Memory Leak and Lags
Can anyone of u who have installed Lollipop confirm that you never experience lags or memory leak after few days usage (continuously without restart) ?
i cant flash philz touch recovery.
flashed rom
flashed cwm
then flashed philz touch
everything is normal for this step.
but when i reboot phone im trying to boot in recovery it boot in stock recovery.
i tried flash supersu stuck on samsung logo.
anyone solve this problems?
Edit : problems are solved
Thanks for making this separate thread:
I am very new to Android devices, Note 3 is my 2nd device.. earlier device Lava IRIS died within a week (it was a very old handset)
Used BB a lot and tried apple as well.
My experience with lollipop as a layman.
Pros:
1. Application loading is bit faster comparatively.. consumes little less battery especially with large apps.
2. Using internet related applications, (playing online games consumes less battery with improved performance)
3. Device gets charged more quickly..
From 0% to 100% in less then a hour. (using official cables)
Cons:
1. The white menus everywhere (too disturbing for eyes, if there is no way to change this. I will get to Kitkat again). I really hate this new interface.
2. Weird brightness issue, its too dim sometimes and gets fixed automatically.. (disabling auto brightness and making it run on 10) wont give that brightness when you are standing on road under sun.. cannot view mobile properly like reading messages etc under sun.
3. Massive battery drain.. not sure when/where its happening..
a. Idle mode consumes lot of battery.
b. Use same old Background applications I suppose, which ran normal on Kitkat mite be consuming more battery now..
4. It takes almost double time to hold home key to kill all recent apps..
5. Device gets charged way too slow (when using unofficial cables from chines mobile phones etc.)
Will share more as comes to mind..
Power button menu
I flashed the Russian ROM without factory reset. Overall it's working fine so far.
WTF with this new power button menu ?!! .. I won't go into the hassle of the missing Silent mode for favor of Priority ... but do I have to unlock the device each time to change the sound mode ?!! ... Who's this idiot in Samsung who came up with this ?!!!

That's really sad. I liked to hold power button and get to mute or vibration mode.
Gone now or ca;not find the best thing
I like Lollipop.
Yes, there are a few Xposed modules, that I do miss sometimes, but I still prefer Lollipop.
The design is nice, white color on that AMOLED screen isn't as bad as I thought it would be. The color in notification area and settings isn't the nicest, but I can live with it. Isn't too much of a problem for me to go and edit it.
Battery life is far superior than on KitKat (honestly, I tried - downgraded to KitKat, ran in same configuration for 1 day, battery life was a lot worse)
Performance-wise I can see some improvement as well (yay for Android Runtime).

5th day since I had last restart, no issues with that.
Hi there, If I flash it with Odin , will I lose all installed software and configurations?
Also I have Knox Status: 1 .... Does it matter for this kind of flashing?
I don't have that much time to upgrade and then having to install every single app and setup wifi etc..
Thanks!
If not I will just flash it straight away.

Android One is a massive failure and why I am downgrading back to Oreo

Hello, I am officially downgrading back to Oreo now due to not seeing bugfixes from Xiaomi for several months on common problems reported by many people to Xiaomi ever since Android Pie update was pushed. They did not fix anything, and it does not look like they will either.
Let me debunk for you my thoughts on Android One and how Xiaomi has handled it:
- We are guaranteed two major updates and security patches, but we are not guaranteed any stability or bugfixes! This is just a cheap update to Android Pie with only security updates being pushed, and I find it absolutely unacceptable. Xiaomi probably does not want to give resources to such a unpopular not profitable or well-selling device (compared to their other devices and MIUI) and are just delivering the minimal they have to in order to stick to and fulfil the conditions set in the Android One project.
- I noticed not only lower battery lifetime, but also several bugs. This includes completely random MASSIVE lags in for example something as simple as using Google Maps (nothing else being used on my phone when lagging!)
- My Wi-Fi not working well at all taking a long time to scan and connect, not being able to connect to hidden networks AT ALL
- Random crashes even when I was on my way to an important exam and even "freezing" up in calls and weird buzzing screeching noises in calls.
- I have LTE, but I cannot call over VoLTE or VoWiFi, because this phone does not have the support for my carrier. My phone calls now go through 2G! While my Apple, Samsung and Huawei friends are laughing at me.
- My friend reported one of his speakers DIED on him not even half a year after the purchase.
Note, I have done factory resets, I have tried to give it a chance, but it just doesn't improve. This is a horrible device, and that is my 2 cents.
You should not buy phones just from the specifications you see it has, you should care about plenty a other things that might be wrong. I have decided to go back to Oreo, and at least have a decent device, and I think you should too, which is why I am sharing this with you. Will I buy another phone from Xiaomi? I am not so sure after this ...
How you do it is simple, you just download the latest Oreo OTA: V9.6.10.0.ODLMIFF, do OEM unlocking and flash it using flash_all_lock_crc.sh on Linux or the flash_all_lock_crc.bat on Windows (will erase all data NB)
Join me downgrading to Oreo, WARNING: Only at your own risk!
Need drivers, download the fasboot package binary for Linux or Windows from Google and install Xiaomi ADB/Fastboot drivers, for Linux it is not necessary when I tried it:
Windows: https://dl.google.com/android/repository/platform-tools-latest-windows.zip
Linux: https://dl.google.com/android/repository/platform-tools-latest-linux.zip
Mac: https://dl.google.com/android/repository/platform-tools-latest-darwin.zip
1. Download the latest 8.1 OTA http://bigota.d.miui.com/V9.6.11.0....0.ODLMIFF_20181112.0000.00_8.1_8028e3bf1c.tgz
2. Enable developers options by tapping the build number in about phone multiple times, and in developer options enable OEM unlocking
3. Shut the phone down, hold the volume down when plugging it into the PC or hold the volume down + power to enter fastboot mode (you should see it say fastboot and the Mitu mascot).
4. OEM unlock using command "fastboot oem unlock" WARNING: Full data wipe, unless you hold volume down you might be able to stop this, look for other threads on xda-developers for this.
5. Flash using flash_all_lock_crc.sh on Linux or the flash_all_lock_crc.bat on Windows, maybe you can use the ones without data wipe, again you should take backup of your important data!
6. Enjoy a not so terrible device
Now I just have to figure out how to stop auto-downloading of May OTA and notifications about updating, probably needs root?
EDIT:
Can go into Developer Options and disable Automatic system updates
I complete agree with you bro, Android One is almost like we are beta testers for all the time. My Mi A2 lite give me some annoying issues:
1) Bluetooth don't work proprely with my sound car system (freeze the music when I take in my hands or the road shake the device);
2) Autofocus don't work for Gcam in low light and even in the stock app camera the focus isn't correct edge to edge, making some softness in the corners;
3) Hotspot wifi router works for some minutes and for nothing the mobile data stop.
4) Ram management is a rubbish, just opening the camera any other application reload;
After all I understand Samsung and others Brands for delay updates, at least is not full of bugs like Xiaomi (same with MIUI).

And about customs ROMs? They are more stable and bugfixeds than stock or not reliable yet? Actually I prefer to install Pixel Experience (Pie) and not downgrade to Oreo.
I like pir granted I never use stock ROM custom is the way to go
Yep pie OS definitely consumes more battery than oreo and I'm almost tempted to role back to oreo just to have more battery life.
I'm currently using lineageos by 33bca it's very stable, I recommend you to give it a try. The only thing I hate is that the ram management is really awful (both with stock and custom rom), most of the time the phone has to reload the applications even if I only have 2 applications opened.
Are you having some problem with sim/network? Because I saw in some post a fix to use after downgrading from pie to oreo.
I never upgraded from Oreo to Pie. Looks like i made the right choice.

Seems like more of the same issues I have experienced, it is simply not good enough for what would be expected of day-to-day use. I think we got exactly what we paid for with this device, sadly, and from what I know the Pie update already released to for example S8 and it is working perfectly well and stable for those. But, again, much more popular and well-financed device than our cheap A2 Lite.

For me this has been the easiest device to downgrade. Xiaomi hosts the OTA officially, OEM unlocking simply by an easy command no phone or e-mail verification just like the Pixel(Probably Android One related), and they made the script to downgrade it for you. I had much more trouble before on other devices. like Samsung using ODIN, Xiaomi with MIUI and similar, having to go through a verification by e-mail to unlock at HTC etc etc. I do not get what you are on about?
Also, why is it a pain without patches or fixes? It is much better than what you get with Pie so far, at least that is for me. There is way more lacks of patches and fixes for Pie than for Oreo ...
Remember, this was the last version released just before the May Pie update, it is very recent in itself only by some 7 months ...

I really wanted to try the custom ROMs, but I have banking apps that complain to me if my device is rooted or similar, and refuses to run. These are important apps for paying for goods and services that you need in order to go about your life normally. I can get around it using Magisk Hide, but I would rather not
SIM/network problems actually worked fine on Oreo and Pie (official ROM) for me all the time. I can use 4G LTE band20 perfectly and other bands to access internet, and it immediately connects to 2G/3G(3G being closed in my country soon for 4G and 5G improvement) for calls when it needs to. Coverage is also well in my country. My company use Ericsson base stations and not Huawei ones, but not like that matters.

nope, if you only do this, you don't have RIL, can't record videos from camera and only one sim works...
i told you because i did it, you need a several fixes for sim, modify files in the official OTA to flash more files and need the modem pie img and flash it too...
i agree that the android one program wont ever give us a solid flawless build, after all it is ment for lower to mid range devices that will be quickly overlooked after release , i must admit this a2 lite is the best phone i have had so far even with the instabilities but thanks to the xda community i have been able to make the device truly mine and how i like it. i had to get this device after my nexus 5x broke during in a motorcycle accident, it was all i could afford and it performs well for my needs, i did install twrp and Butterfly for Daisy to fix the GCam mis focus issues, eventually i gave in and installed magisk to manage tge kernel with arduitor and increase battery life. i never had the luxury to run Oreo on this devixe because as soon as i got it i unlocked the bootloader and when it restarted it booted into the updated pie partition and i decided to run with it. i dont think xiaomi or Google will actually fix any bugs but we are on XDA and DIY is always an option.

Not good. I think this was the same massive lagging issue I experienced, I just did not know it was due to bad RAM management. Is this a fix that needs to be done to the ROM directly or only the kernel? I am not familiar with custom ROM/kernel development that much, but I have experienced some kernels on devices working much better than others like ElementalX.

I am able to record videos from my camera perfectly, it works very stable. I used this version of Oreo just some months ago and it worked great. I have the version with 4GB RAM and 64GB eMMC. I think the reason I experience no issues is because I only use one primary SIM for 4G and calling in SIM slot 1, and do not have a use for the 2nd SIM slot so for me, it is perfect, but too bad for the people that actually needs this feature like you About updates to RIL I assume the firmware used for modem/calling, which for me works so any updates are not that needed for me to have it working perfectly.

i agree that the android one program wont ever give us a solid flawless build, after all it is ment for lower to mid range devices that will be quickly overlooked after release , i must admit this a2 lite is the best phone i have had so far even with the instabilities but thanks to the xda community i have been able to make the device truly mine and how i like it. i had to get this device after my nexus 5x broke during in a motorcycle accident, it was all i could afford and it performs well for my needs, i did install twrp and Butterfly for Daisy to fix the GCam mis focus issues, eventually i gave in and installed magisk to manage tge kernel with arduitor and increase battery life. i never had the luxury to run Oreo on this devixe because as soon as i got it i unlocked the bootloader and when it restarted it booted into the updated pie partition and i decided to run with it. i dont think xiaomi or Google will actually fix any bugs but we are on XDA and DIY is always an option.

But it was actually working well enough for me too on some of the builds, but I do agree that it is probably not a phone that was meant to be supported for long. Another person I know has the A2 model, and he says it has been working perfectly well for him for all this time even on latest Android Pie. I do not know if there are much differences between them, but I do know the A2 is a much more popular device. Personally I prefer the A2 Lite just for the audio jack, and I still like the legacy MicroUSB. People would call me mad for this, but haha, that is just who I am.
I am afraid this device is not nearly as popular to get enough DIY effort into making a custom ROM/kernel, I am certainly not anyone who knows enough to get into development of it. I hope it will go well and that somebody will take the challenge, or maybe it has already happened?

i actually think the mi a2 lite is more popular than the regular A2, it has more features and a better battery for a cheaper price so it is more accessible to more people and therefore more reach developers. Butterfly for Daisy is a great Custom Kernel that fixes some issues including the GCam focus issue among other things on Pie, i highly suggest you read that thread to see if it offer solutions to some of your issues with the device. im still running stock Rom with the custom kernel and everything works great. others have reported Resurrection Remix/Puxel Experience/ and Lineage Os bring additional stability and fixes in coordination with the kernel. i havent found the need to try a custom rom yet but development is very active on the device. however it is a low end phone and QA is not as good so some devices might be lemons straght out of the factory and not perform as good.
I have almost no issues with my Mi A2 Lite. No slowness except what I expect from a $159 phone, GPS works, bluetooth works albeit I hate that they removed AAC, WiFi is perfectly fine and maxes out my connection with bluetooth on. Only thing I don't like is how crap calling is, but I figured that would be the case when I bought it at again, $159 and knew some American bands were missing. Battery life is 8-11 hours of SOT with regular usage. I use the IR blaster to control my stereo receiver, FM radio is nice. Glass has some light scratches, but again I expect that for $159.
I have a brand new never opened Oreo Mi A2 Lite in my desk drawer still in the box that I haven't felt the need to pull out yet. I think as someone else has pointed out, there may be two hardware revisions because mine is fairly flawless.
I downgrade my Mi A2 Lite to Oreo V9.6.6.0.ODLMIFF (August 2018) and was surprised how good and perfect is this version, looks like I have an new Smartphone. Now Bluetooth works perfect, Gcam Autofocus is accurate, fine RAM mannagement, battery life is great, only miss FM Radio.
Mi A2 Lite was arruined by Android Pie.
Shame on you Xiaomi, I'm very disappointed with the crap updates that we received from you, seems like your only purpose is for the users buy an new one device.

For the ram management... open your kernel 'tweaker' app and disable 'Adaptive Low Memory Killer', it seems to like killing apps on background, even with enough ram to spare... It'll make no magic, but definately helps :highfive:
Sorry, needing Help.
Could you please post a tutorial for this, or a good noob Xiaomi step by step? I have unlocked my phone a few months ago. I don't remember how I did it. I have since moved to another phone. I have installed twrp and had it rooted with majisk. a factory reset took care of majisk. I would love to go back completely to stock oreo.
I only need one slot on the sim so this should be ok.
Your directions for install sound good but seems like something might be missing. I'm new to the xiaomi devices. They seem way more comlicated than all the Samsungs I've had.
PLEASE, and thank you:good::good:

All your data on phone will be lost , take back-up on PC if necessairy.
For full stock rom , download Miuflashtool zip. extract and install on your PC, download stock rom for your phone on your PC and extract it , boot into fastboot and connect your device to PC ,in flashtool click on refresh, your device should appear ( numbercombination 225cc80.... or something like that) click browse in the left corner and select the extracted stock rom file, hit flash and wait till you see succes in green on the right . Your device will take about 10 min to boot . You're now on stock rom, locked bootloader, no root and stock recovery . I flashed my device MiA2 lite) yesterday with latest Pie stock rom after I had bootloop
bricked it. I don't now about oreo stock rom , there could be issues with network connection, video playback and swapped simcard because of anti rollback protection.
Thank you so much.
That was super simple and super quick. I am back to stock Pie, unrooted and and the boot loader is locked again. I used OREO and the phone works fine. Make sure you disable update or it will update to pie. I need to redo it to go back to oreo.
I want to downgrade. What about second sim slot OREO error ??? What version is the best? And what version havent bluetooth/wifi/gps issue? I dont remember what version I was at last on oreo.

* Echo Fixed
* VoLTE Fixed (thanks to tlmlbreakdown)
* February Security Patch
y is this thread so, idk ...quiet.
This is the best ROM I've used on the LeEco Le2 (X520).
Everything works. Most important NO ECHO on the calls!!!! Fast charge works and battery consumption is the best EVER! Better than the original ROM.
Thank you!!! For real! This was a live saver!

Have for 4/5 days. Camera crashed once. But, to be honest, there is a app to restart the camera that... just worked.
I've tried at least 7 ROM's. No other gets near this one in my opinion.
Flashed Pico Gapps for Android 10 and then build it from there to match my needs.
Granted I tried several ROM's in the last 8 months, some may already taken care of some problems, but to my knowledge other ROM never took care of the echo problem in the calls, camera crashed much more often and no app worked to restart it, this one works as I already said, face unlock works like a charm, some of the ones I tested didn't even got it, battery consumption is better than original ROM (again, to be honest, after ROM flashing battery drained a bit fast, but made a reboot, since then, just a breeze).
To me is THE perfect ROM to this phone.
Again a big, enormous, thank you to the developer(s) that made this available.
And one more thing, all this just works!!! You do not have to patch anything, add anything, just flash the ROM. Simple as that.
Ho! And it REALLY IS light weight. No bull**** in that sentence!
Superb, tomorrow I'll test it

Well, all those fixes come from tlmlbreakdown who maintains LineageOS.
You'd get the same fixes by installing LineageOS 17.1.

Wow, really? I need to try this then, I'm sick of all the half-baked ROMs on here.
A few questions if you're willing to answer them: Which model do you have? How fast does GPS lock? What's your SOT? How is the camera quality? Does dual SIM work without issues?
I am facing issue with incoming calls sound not playing on phone when bluetooth is connected. I get beeps in my bluetooth headset but there is no sound coming from phone. I have checked and all settings look ok. Any solution for this?

That's a feature, not a bug. Really, every Android behaves like this. If you have a BT headset connected, ringing your phone too is pointless.
