[How-to][ruu] Flash ruu.zip to factory - HTC U11+ Guides, News, & Discussion

If you have some problem with your phone like me (Settings app fc always) you can download your RUU.zip and flash it.
If your bootloader unloced no problem no need to relock.
Go to download mode and type:
Code:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
Now your booted to the black HTC screen. Make sure your Rom.zip file is in your adb/fastboot folder
Code:
htc_fastboot flash zip Rom.zip
This takes a couple minutes and you will most likely get a error (pre-hboot update: please flush immediately) and maybe your phone reboot sometimes.
Make sure device is still in ruu mode(black HTC screen).
Let it run and it should finish this time
After completed :
Code:
fastboot reboot
It will reboot to a fully stock build.
Just remember, anytime you get a "flush immediately" error, just make sure your still in ruu mode and reflash the zip.
The most common error is typically :
FAILED (remote: 90 hboot pre-update! please flush image again immediately )
Enjoy your stock phone again.

You can't make a downgrade with out S-OFF!!!
(I'm not using HTC anymore but this process still working)
HTC Fastboot in 2nd post. You only need paste to fastboot and adb folder.

If you want to decrypt RUU you can use : HTC RUU Decrypt tool . You will got a system.img, boot.img, recovery.img etc...
HTC Fastboot exe : https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=95916177934550031

Thank you. I was wondering how to flashing the zips.

Thanks OP.
I want to extract the stock boot and recovery from RUU but it appears the format of RUU provided here is different from the others.
Is it still possible to extract them?
And could this RUU rename to 2Q4DIMG.zip and place to sdcard and flash from device with download mode?

If y want to decrypt the RUU y need this : HTC RUU Decrypt tool
You can decrypt the ruu file and y can find the system.img, boot.img, recovery.img.
I think you can place to sdcard but i didn't try this.

Hi, I flashed the firmware from the microsd (fimware 1.10.400.23). As with htc 11 normal model, just rename the firmware file corresponding to the phone model in 2Q4DIMG.zip, put it in the sd card, start htc u11 plus in download mode and it's done. There is no need to have unlocked bootloader.

I tried to downgrade from 1.24.401.2 to 1.10.401.23 with the SD-card method (non root) because of wakelocks and the low percentage of Deep Sleep of screen time off (confirmed today by HTC Nordic today and that HTC are working on a new update. The support person didn't know any ETA).
Everything seems okay underway when flashing but after boot and finishing the setup procedure, Wifi, Google account etc. I'm still on 1.24.401.2. I used the 1.10.401.23 in the first post.
Have anyone else tried to downgrade with non root?

My HK model got an update today to 1.24.400.03 and devcheck is reporting 61% deep sleep.
I have had almost none since the update from 1.10 to 1.24.400.01. the .03 update seems to have solved this.

Downgrade has nothing to do with root. You have to be S-off.

You can run MM ROMs, yes. There is one from Santod040 that is based off HTC Sense, and one by enewman17 that is based off GPe (Google Play edition)
There is no MM firmware however, until HTC releases it to us.
You can flash the latest 4.17.605.9 LP firmware, and run those above said MM ROMs

Need more info then "it fails".
Exact error or issue you encounter.
Pasting the terminal input and output here would be most useful.
Hard to instruct you any further from what little info you gave.
I'm doing it from the phone and there's no way I can copy and paste the results..... I tried to take a screen shot but that wouldn't work either. It doesn't give a reason it just goes to install and fails. Not sure how to give more info?
Here's a couple pictures of the issue.

You don't flash it in recovery...
It fails because you aren't following the instructions given...
Copied from Santods thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62734094&postcount=2
Place the zip in your fastboot/adb directory on your computer.
Put the device in fastboot mode
(Volume down and power until menu appears, select fastboot using power button)
Connect the device to the computer
Enter the following commands from terminal/command prompt in the fastboot directory, one at a time:
fastboot oem rebootRUU (this puts the device in RUU mode)
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip (rename file to firmware.zip to make it simple/optional)
It will say that the update did not finish, to flush again, so repeat the above step:
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
Important: the flash process halts at around 75% to 90% on phone screen! This is normal and a safety precaution!
The last few percent is the reboot, which is NOT happening automatically, so you get a chance to check the console output before reboot to make sure it is safe to reboot!
The bar will only fill up to 100% once you type the following command:
fastboot reboot-bootloader (this reboots the device to bootloader)

Hi,
me too i want to back to stock but i think it's to complicated, so what i know : 1st backup ur current custom rom (for safe ^^);
2nd restore stock recovery; 3th restore RUU for your A9 (hiaeuhl or hiaeul etc ... ) that all i know but i heard that we need to restore the /system partition (i dont backup this before install cm13 :/ ) if anybody know what to do exactly :fingers-crossed: :silly:
the s-on/s-off scare me too xD i dont know what to do to restore stock properly ^^' maybe we have another thread for that i look later
S-on/off has nothing to do with going back to stock (unless you want to change version).
if you flash RUU you'll be 100% stock but you'll lose everything including root
bootloader is fine i guess.

Verify that you have the correct RUU for your phone. If you do, and it still isn't working, try the RUU .exe while your phone is in download mode. Also, make sure you're not using a USB 3.0 port. Sometimes that can cause problems.

Gotcha, I'd recommend that you use the external sd/stock recovery method to return to stock. That's probably the most bulletproof way to return to stock. If you no longer have the stock recovery, no problem. It's pretty simple to extract the recovery from the RUU and flash it first.
Also, did you download the RUU again? It is possible that you may have a corrupted RUU.zip if it is crashing your fastboot.
So me i'm on CM13 nightlies with twrp and boot.img modified, to back to stock i had to flash stock recovery( * ) than flash the RUU( ** ) ? that all ?
*: i had to extract it from the RUU coresponding i'm good ? ^^"
**: my cid is HTC_034; my mid is 2PQ910000 so i had to take the 1.10.401.7 RUU i'm good ? ^^' or the 1.56.401.70 or 1.27.401.5 ? i'm lost, on my dowload mode it's say i'm on 1.10.401.7 (but i'm on cm13 latest nightlies ... >< )
Than, when i'm succefully back to stock if i choose to return to cm13 i can flash my backup(recovery+boot+/system+rom) of cm13 with twrp if firmware doesn't upgrade with OTA on stock i'm good ?
Lots of question i know ^^' thx for help.

If you use the sd card method (copy the RUU.zip to external sd) fastboot is no longer necessary. The RUU is flashed using the stock recovery. There's no fastboot to crash at that point.

You shouldn't have any trouble returning to stock at all. I've had quite a few Heineken at this point, but flashing boot, recovery, and system of your stock rom is no problem at all if you have backups.

Could you state how this is done? I recently moved to the A9 from having the M7 since it came out, (which had NO external SD card support) , so this is the 1st I'm hearing of being able to apply an RUU Without fastboot... Does the RUU have to be in any specific folder, or the root of the external SD card?
Any details would be GREATLY appreciated.

Any one of the three would return you to stock, as long as the version number is greater than or equal to the firmware that you have installed. (Which is the topic of this tread...)
As far as compatibility with CM, you should check that thread...but I think CM is compatible with the 1.27 firmware. If you're still s-on, you DO NOT want to upgrade the firmware to a newer version than CM supports, if you intend to use CM.

I'm sure it's possible...just a matter of finding exactly what you need to hex edit and where it is. Experimenting with this likely carries a chance of bricking your device, since the variables would have to be used by HBOOT and/or download mode. Maybe someone else has already accomplished this?

You must use htc_fastboot.exe to flash a RUU, not the regular fastboot.exe from the android sdk.

The stock recovery is not used when flashing a RUU from the sdcard. The bootloader handles the process, not the recovery. Stock recovery isn't needed at all, using fastboot or the sdcard methods.

Please help: How to return htc u11 to stock

Hi guys,
My phone now is on LeeDroid custom ROM (Build 1.03.401.6.9_g CL923215)
What are the steps to return the htc u11 to stock please?
The original software number of my phone is: 1.11.400.4
EDIT: I went to: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=72425224&postcount=5
& downloaded stock recovery & nandroid TWRP backup (for 1.11.400.4).
However, I couldnt flash that nandroid TWRP from TWRP recovery.
Long story short, I just got the phone today, I made a big mistake by not inserting the simcard in & testing to see if the phone working or not.
So, I went straight through the process of unlocking bootloader, installing TWRP, Rooting, Installing custom ROM without making a nandroid backup.
For all that, the phone did not recognize the sim cards (tried both my sim & my gf's sim. not working)
The store will take back the phone as long as I return it to stock.
Thanks for your help!!!

Restore the TWRP backup, check everything is working, then flash stock recovery if you need to. The stock Nandroid should include recovery asfaik. I'm more of a trial and error guy lol. Read guide pages to know for certain, check HTC 10 guides, same steps.

download this Official RRU firmware and install it https://forum.xda-developers.com/u11/how-to/unlocked-htc-u11-software-update-6-19-t3624814
Use the ruu, you might need the HTC drivers but in the future never not make a backup, 15 mins could save u a major headache

Your going to need a full signed RUU zip matching your original firmware and CID buddy.
Based on your original build number its an Indian dual SIM device so here is the ruu:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=817550096634780026
1. Rename it to 2PZCIMG.zip
2. Lock your bootloader
3. Drop the zip on your external SD card.
3. Boot to download mode, at that point you will be prompted to flash... Accept... Profit.
If you don't have an external SD.
1. Lock your bootloader.
2. Boot to download mode.
3. Open a cmd window and run the below commands.
fastboot orm rebootRUU (hit enter)
fastboot flash zip (drag the zip into the cmd window then hit enter)

On the PC side, what was the exact error message?
you can ignore the warning from the phone side.
I had a similar issue the other day, but then I was able to run the RUU upgrade to rest my phone back to stock as I had to ship it back for a refund, to get the new Red ones
When I ran the RUU thing it wouldn't detect the phone, did a few things, and then it was finally able to detect the phone.
and when it started updating the Boot image it hung for a long while, I had to restart the phone back into download mode, then run the RUU again, and it was able to continue from there.

If you flashed a full Oreo firmware instead of just the dsp, radio and bluetooth images you won't be able to downgrade. Firmware can only be downgraded if S-OFF, and that's not yet available on Oreo. If that's the case you are very well stranded on Oreo for the time being.
To be honest those things are quite basic knowledge you should have learned before you started tinkering with your device. Today most people just start flashing away, while I - when I started it myself back on the Desire days - read up on XDA and other forums for about three weeks to know what is to know. Still reading and learning new ways to accomplish what I want from instructions by developers, themer and many other users. Might never stop doing so until I'll stop tinkering.

If he has the wrong or to old fastboot on his PC, he won't be able to flash the RUU, due to file size restrictions in older fastboot versions. On the other hand, I'd personally prefer the SD card method instead of fastboot RUUing, as that always avoids such problems.

Who to?
Please explain
I download ruu firmware, put it on root of ext. Sdcard.
Reboot the phone to download mode. In the starting of download mode, it give you to choose, vol + to flash, vol - to cancel.
The ruu firmware must rename to "2PZCIMG. Zip",
If you have twrp, you must wipe data.
May I ask why you decide to switch back?

[Downgrade][S-ON] Downgrade by flashing older version of official RUU

Get the method from here:
https://bbs.htc.com/cn/thread-109059-1-1.html
----------
This method seems to modify the original system version number so that the old version of the RUU file can pass the checking.
--------------------
Backup your data before downgrading.
--------------------
1. Download the RUU file which is the version you need.
2. Reboot to download mode, then flash the TWRP via fastboot.
Unofficial TWRP for U11+: https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-u11/development/unofficial-htc-u11-twrp-recovery-t3706264
Fastboot command:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Click to collapse
3. Reboot to recovery mode, then get sde1 file by :
adb pull /dev/block/sde1
Click to collapse
4. Open the file with a text editor and change the version number, which is easy to found, to the version number of your RUU file.
5. Push back the file by
adb push sde1 /dev/block
Click to collapse
If it shows "does not have enough space", delete the original file by the files manager in the recovery first.
6. Flash your RUU file by entering into the download mode after copying it to the SD card.
Tested on U11+ China version, no problems found.
Hope this can help you.

Tested. Ok on HTC__621 taiwan device.
Thanks for the guide. Does it work if you swiped to "allow system modification" in twrp?
HTC U11 Plus is base on android oreo.
I think you can flash ruu normally.
You can flash older version of RUU follow software number and it's same version android.
If you want to rollback from new version android ,this method is important.
Ex RUU 1.xx.400.x Android 8.0
Your devices is software number 1.24.400.x ,Android 8.0
You can use Ruu above for flash your device.

hi Sotong rom India_SEA 1.10.400.23 for what is CID?
Hey Guys, would this procedure work if i would like to return the phone to stock with custom rom??
By the way, is it possible to pull the sde1 without flashing the trwp recovery image?
I have tried to pull the file with the following steps and it is a success but not sure if the file is okay:
adb root
adb pull /dev/block/sde1
I can see the version number in the file with notepad++

Hi all,
Managed to get reload the stock rom and re-lock the bootloader.
Thanks.
Do I need TWRP and SD card?
Can I just use fastoot/adb and flash from PC directly?
Also what images are needed? I only have boot system and recovery stock images. Is that good enough?
