Google Camera Port - HTC U11+ Questions & Answers

I'm hoping this is the correct forum...
I downloaded the Google Camera Port from XDA, and I was wondering if anyone knew what the best settings were for the HTC U11+?
Support level override
Supported HW back camera
Buffer size
Etc...
Cheers

i used gapps camera apk,but i crashed when using the slow motion.
anyone had an idea to fix the issue.thanks.

Same here actually, thanks!!!- I hadn't used slow motion yet
I'll see if I can find a fix and let you know if I do

new version have portrait mode
hope u11+ can have a port :angel::highfive:

https://www.xda-developers.com/pixel-2-portrait-mode-port-non-google-android-oreo/
Scroll down after reading and click non pixel devices. Download and install. Slow mo doesn't work I believe.

For some reason I can't see the pictures that the app takes.. All it shows in the bottom right is a black circle.

Use Arnova's 1.3 version (marked with red text and bold) from today on U11+ from here: https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/
I am using the front camera HDR+ version and it has portrait mode as well, which works great for rear camera but not so good with front camera. Front camera with HDR+ is way better than the front camera of stock HTC app. So, its my daily driver now except for the slow-mo mode.

Thanks, I have downloaded this, and will check back in after testing
It seems v1.3 is no longer in red and bold, it's stable now (unless I've got the wrong one.... first in the list?)

thanks, at least the arnova verison seems to work! however, can't really see much of a difference between portrait mode and normal mode?

Portrait mode works a treat for me
I think you have to be fairly close, 2- 3 feet or so
Also, after taking the shot, it shows you a before and after portrait effect. Maybe you're seeing the before effect. At the bottom of the photo review screen the are two thumbnails, you can switch between to show before and after

This is the version I found that has working front and back camera included tap to focus.

My findings: Great detail( good for portraits), preserves highlights, some more noise, pinkish/purple edges in very low light, some halo/rainbow effect in some pics, fast shutter (great for capturing movement out and indoor).
Update1. Portrait
Working Portrait mode for back camera only. In this version tap to focus i slow.
Tip for the full experience is installing this version with AppCloner app (change name to portrait) and have both versions installed at the same time. Use this version just for Portrait mode.

Is the the latest version of Google cam or the old version of Google cam?
Yes, One of the latest working cam on s8. You could try newer versions ( se "Kisakuku" s other uploads and see if it works). There seem to be small difference in photo quality among different versions.
Thanks
There is a newer versione with portrait mode. but here on my G950F don't works. Hope to get it very soon. Probably it's working for snapdragon version.. hope we will get on exynos too!! https://www.xda-developers.com/pixel-2-portrait-mode-port-non-google-android-oreo/
Try this mod with your setting. I worked very well but very slow when i took the picture. Due of the hdr + is this normal ? Sometimes the image is freezing or black for few second.
Yes,hoping for a working portrait mode. Also that some of the other issues mentioned get fixed.
The app isnt perfect but I'm thrilled it works so well on an non pixel/snapdragon phone. One downside is the processing time and shutter lag. That isnt the same as slow capturing the moment. The shutter is fast when taking picture and freeze movement more often than on stock. The pics for me turns out great. Even better results than the same app on s7 (installed on my girfriend's phone). Both picture quality and the image stabilization function. I now even use this app more than native S8 camera.
A tip is to install BxActions and use doublepress on the bixby button to open the camera.
Yep i wanna try some shoots someday for comparisons.
Honestly i don't even know we can capable working hdr + on exynos.
So thanks for this ?

See first post, and report back
Can confirm Portrait mode is working on the Oreo Beta on rear cam only (based on the settings in your attachment). The results I have to say are brilliant. Not sharing any pictures of my ugly mug with you all though haha!
But why works only with faces?
R U kidding me? It´s called Portrait Mode and a Portrait ist per definition a photo of a humenbeing! Why don´t you use the selective focus from the stock cam for other things you want to shoot?
I instal MiniUser's version of GCam and it work flawlessly on s8+

S7 portrait mode app

Hi Guys,
Which is the best and stable camera app to be used for portrait mode in the S7? And can it be used with the front camera? I tried many but they all crash every now and then.
Thanks
You can use selective focus mode on stock camera app. It produces portrait-like photos (back camera only) but the downside to me is the size. The image will be about 20MB in size but if you edit it again using any photo editor app it will decrease. IMO the stock selective focus mode is better and faster than lens blur on Google Camera.

Yes it is good but like 90% of the times it will say that subject not detected. And the size for me is normal like 4-5mb per photo. Any other modded/ported camera app for the S7 for this purpose? And can it be used with the front camera?
You can check the @miniuser123 version of the Gcam app. I think it's the best (far away) portrait mode for us.

This is a problem with the image processing (the heating and the battery drain). Some people says the cause is the app use all cores for processing the image (HDR+ and portrait)
Anyway, there's a new version with front camera working with portrait.

Thanks!! The settings is a bit different but I only changed the model to Nexus 6 and everything is ok. It's still crashed when I switch back to rear camera from front cam while in portrait mode. But portrait mode is still only available on the rear camera, right? Because it's not working on front cam.
Oh right, actually the heating was only a couple times after installing. Now it doesn't heat anymore.

Oh, no. This version that I sent works the rear and front camera in portrait mode. Using without the portrait the front camera is terrible.
And even at portrait, the front camera has a bug with high exposure changing the color to something like pink exposure.
I attached my settings. Remember to close and reopen the app totally for apply.

Changing the model to pixel 2 xl did enable portrait on the selfie but yeah it got some pink on high exposure. But the result was still great. Without portrait the front cam is blurry and the edge was too much sharpened. It's terrible.
Also, is HDR+ enabled by default? There's no HDR+ setting on the top row but there's some sort of delay (like when applying HDR) when I take pictures so I thought it's still there. The photos taken with rear camera is also better now I guess.

Yeah, this version is near to perfect.
I never, anymore, take pics o' people without rear portrait camera -hahaha
The delay is borring but minimal. You can take a lot of pics and check them later. You don't need to wait between the shots.
If you wanna HDR+ setting, go to: settings>advance>check the option: manual HDR+ control (my app isn't in english, but is something like that)
*You can't increase the HDR+ parameters
**Just a obs- my app crashed sometimes at older version (I didn't try the newer properly) and my app didn't take pics. If it happen, just "force stop" and it back.

Google Camera APK for Galaxy S9 SM-G9600 (Snapdragon 845)

Hello guys,
Can anyone tell if there is a Google Camera APK that works on the Galaxy S9 SM-G9600 (snapdragon 845 processor)? I looked for all possible sites and found for version with Exynos processor, which worked in Galaxy with snapdragon, except the portrait modes, which left the application with very leg and sometimes crash in the app.
Anyone who has an S9 with snapdragon could indicate some apk that actually works? I do not really like the native app, I think the colors tend to be yellowish and poorly sharp, the google camera application does a much better job.
Thank you.
I wanna latest version for S8 plus Exynos

Idan's build crashes on startup for me and the phone reboots. That's why I suggested the build that I did.
My phone is also a Snapdragon S9+.
Just ran the security update that Samsung pushed out and now the IDan build works for me as well. It's confusing that it says it's for Exynos processors, but it's working on Snapdragon.
For me it did not work the apk developed by Idan, I will try the apk made for Oneplus 6. I also did not receive security update from samsung, after that update I will try again the apk of Idan. I have a gakaxy s9 128gb (sm-g9600).

Actually, portrait works, but is live view is very laggy.
Camera Comparasion - GCAM S9 vs Stock S9
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1BhEcmoGRzR_Cc-sa6CRZi-YEMaMZIphV
- Do not forget to zoom in to see the details of each photo!
- I do not know why, but the angle got more open in the photos taken with the google camera app.
- Portrait dont work for me, much laggy!
I made a comparison to see how the google app is far superior in selfies.
I used the last Idan apk, as it was made for Exynos processors. Portrait mode dont work, just Lens Blur mode.
I did not edit any settings, because the app closed when something changed in the congifurations, but it was possible to make the quality much better if I configured HDR + for Pixel 2 XL, 100% HDR quality, etc ...
See how even in Lens Blur mode, the cut is much better than the Samsung app, the colors are much more natural and the difference in sharpness and contrast is far superior.
The rear camera for me the quality is very similar, gcam has less exposure and a bit more detail while samsung app over exposure and a bit less detail.
I hope someone creates a stable version for the galaxy S9 and S9 + with snapdragon processors .
@IDan1109
The portrait mode does work, the live screen is laggy, but as soon as I hit capture, it takes the picture. The crazy part to me is even though I'm on my couch, you can see that it blurs it out. So, it's not trying to emulate a bokah effect as you would get on a high end camera.
(I don't know why the upload came out rotated, it does up correctly in the gallery)

Testing some apk by IDan, practically all showed to be the most stable for Galaxy S9 with snapdragon, some could configure everything at maximum.
I think there is little left for these IDan apks to work on the Galaxy S9 with Snapdragon, as overall it's just solving the laggy problem in portrait mode and in some cases it looks like the photos are not saved.
Could someone help please?
Please, if any developers are willing to develop a google camera apk for Galaxy S9 with snapdragon processors, this apk is the most stable:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76929647&postcount=477 by @IDan1109
@Arnova8G2 @cstark27 @SKULSHADY
Using the default configuration (I did not make any changes, I left it the way it was when opening the apk for the first time), Problems I encountered:
1) Portrait mode with a lot of laggy, some report that even with this laggy the pictures are taken, in my case push the button to take photo nothing happens. The lens blur mode works great.
2) The battery is drained with this apk
3) Slow motion does not work.
The rest have been working very well apparently, panoramic mode, sphere mode, lens blur. I had no problems with the HDR +, it worked very well in all modes in this apk.
I think people are looking for this app to take pictures with the front camera, because it is much superior to the native app in S9, especially portrait mode! If someone can solve the problem in portrait mode, it will be a great help!
I tested with a Galaxy S9 128GB (SM-G9600)
Thanks!
Edit 05/07/20118
I tested this apk by IDan and I thought the best experience so far in my Galaxy S9.
Pixel2Mod V7
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76345648&postcount=78
I put all possible options at most, I realized that the function exposure slow shuter makes some visible difference in the quality of the photos.
The portrait mode works with a lot of laggy, as long as it does not try to focus manually with touch screen, I let app focus alone.
Improved HDR + mode sometimes does not work, but it worked most of the time. I didn'r have problems with HDR+ acitivate.
I don't know if it's normal but the post processing leaves the skin whiter, I wish it would look like the app shows on the screen, but that's an irrelevant problem for now.
The beteria was also drained, I believe it is a consequence of this app, which consumes a lot of battery even, because everyone I tested heard this problem.
I found the best experience for being able to use portrait mode, which was not possible with the app I tested earlier.
my device is an S9 plus snapdragon, and no app can run the HDR +, sad.

Try this apk, I think it will work. The "improved HDR+" may not work if you force the app to close and try again. The portrait works for me pretty laggy, as long as you do not try to focus manually, patiently let the app focus on its own.
You can enable: Auto-exposure mode: Slow shutter / HDR + Super high / JPEG HDR + 100%. Don't forget to force close after enable this settings.
This is the best apk for Galaxy S9 with snapdragon, I hope someone can develop based on this app a stable apk.

hi,
I have tried several settings using GoogleCamera-Pixel2Mod-Arnova8G2-V8.2.apk and:
- app stops when switch to front camera
- if not crash immediately, app stops when I tap to take a photo
- only with HDR totally disabled camera shots a photo but it is BW with some stripes
Any suggestions?

I'm using this one https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/f/GCamera_Mod_v.5.1.23_R5Plus_fix_crash.apk
So far so good. I like the personalization menu of this one better than the Arnova one.
Didn't test it thoroughly, but in both versions portrait camera works and so does slow motion (this two were the most reported bugs I saw).
Anyone trying diferent versions, let us know so we can compare.

Gonna give it a try. :good:
Works perfectly with Camera2 API Enabler by P1N20.
Thanks a lot for sharing ! With HDR on quality seems better !
And Google panorama feature is a must
Thanks for this guide.
I'm currently using Arnova's v8.3b1 Google Cam, and I also noticed that sometimes after taking a picture it takes forever to process HDR images. The front cam with HDR on force closes when you take a picture as well.

This one: https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/f/changelog225/ Based on https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/f/changelog223/ which I believe is based on BSG or Arnova version.

Tried this one. But the portrait mode of the front cam isn't working. It's not capturing anything.

It's working for me. But if it's not working, I suggest (,reinstalling or,) trying the one it's based on (check my previous post). And if still buggy, try others posted here. Or go for the arnova ones. They act like regular apps, so you can try and try.
Also, I've noticed they treat the colors in a diferent way. If anyone with time wants to compare the actual pictures, it'll be nice
Could someone that has followed this guide and enabled camera2 API download this app from play store. Camera2 probe https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.weis.camera2probe
And post your screenshot please
I have not enable camera2 API yet and was curious if that physically changes the hardware level support.
Thanks in advance

For the front cam, the flash thingy (white screen of death) causes a crash. Disabling it will let you have a front cam that doesnt take pictures lol
@adriakus thanks for the report bruh. Tried the one you shared and front cam works! Updated the post for others. Thanks man!
@fake__knv Thx for the credit! I'll keep trying other versions from now and then and I'll post them here if I find any differences.

tnx for this info
we don't have this update on the stable pie
Thanks been waiting for this, didnt want to update to beta 6 just for the camera..
Does this run fine on Oreo or does it require Pie?
Try it. Not sure if it checks the SDK number or not. Worst that happen is you remove it and restore the camera backup you should make before removing old and installing new camera apk
Be aware that while it does install in stable 9.0 OOS, the nightscape thing doesn't do anything to the final photo (already did comparisons). I've read reports of it working on OB6 so stable users have to wait for an update.
It freezes the camera app for me. Uninstalled.
New stable OOS is out. Thats inside now.

Do we have to use with flash?
I'm having some issues with the new camera on 9.0.2. The night mode actually looks worse because it seems to apply a weird oil painting effect and it blurs out details. Aside from that the portrait mode edge detection and blur quality is absolutely garbage. There is no way to change the "beauty" filter now apparently (the slider for it was removed?). And I can't get the studio lighting feature to work.
Can anyone help?

Night mode is what it is and can be further improved, it's just software. About beauty mode, yes the slider is still there. If it isn't for you try to clean flash. Studio Lightning is, from what I've read, something that happens automatically for portrait pictures, meaning it isn't a mode/slider/option.

Are you sure the beauty mode slider is still there for rear camera? I have it for front facing camera, but for rear camera it's just "on-off". I tried wiping cache and data of the camera app but that did nothing to help.

You never specified which camera you were talking about so how would I be sure? The answer is no in that case. Slider isn't there but then again, if this is a feature request or a missing feature report, you should post that information in the official stable thread for OOS.
Lowlight vs preset. (Updated)
*•*photo 1. standard auto hdr.
*•*photo 2. iso :2000 shutter at 0.4 with manual wb at 4200+/-
*•*photo 3. iso : 400 shutter at 5 and wb at 4060k.
*•*photo 4. iso : 1600 shutter at 8 and wb at 4060k (extreme low light conditions)
Tripod used : Tripod was used for shot 3 and 4, I used a $5 one with a $1 phone mount. Something an everyday consumer would be able to get.
*Update*
(salt attack prevention)
added shot for gcam too.
Gcambuild: GoogleCamera_6.1.013.216795316-debug2.apk
Onepluscam: 2.10.5
OOS : 9.0.1
Rooted.
*Update 2*
Added* Extreme low light conditions test shots.
Comments:
obviously leaving the shutter open draws in more light but it also captures more yellow. so i just manually tune that and save it as a preset. because night photos usually need to be cooled. I tried to use as low iso as possible in the settings to try reduce any unnecessary noise caused by high iso.
photo 2's settings are nice if you dont have tripod. as you can see the noise is significantly decreased and has way better sharpness. but still kept relatively the same exposure.
then for settings of the 3rd photo are my favorite. you need a tripod. but i mean it cames out amazing. even beats low light mode.
The 4th photo and settings are for extreme low light conditions and you'll need a tripod too.
