Submit Questions for Honor and WIN AN HONOR VIEW 10
The live Q&A session has ended, but Honor will continue answering questions over the next several days. Winners of the Honor View 10s will be announced within 24 hours.
If you did not win, don't worry. Continue submitting questions, and the best ones will be asked live at CES on January 7th. Joining Honor at CES will be an AI expert from Microsoft, and he will provide answers. We will be giving away two more Honor View 10s to the people who ask the best questions.
As many of you may know, XDA and Honor have a partnership to promote community and development on Honor devices. With the new Honor View 10, we have an exciting opportunity for the community to get personal with Honor and ask some burning questions. Qiang Gan (username QiangGan) will be answering your questions. He joined Huawei in 2004 and was engaged in the research and development of mobile phones until 2015. He is mainly responsible for software, including EMUI 1.x – 3.x. Today he is responsible for the lifecycle management of a product after its launch, including product experience improvement and user management.
The Honor View 10 is one of the most exciting phones to come from Honor. The new Kirin 970 is the first AI processor to be featured in a smartphone. AI will change the way you use your smartphone by understanding how you use your phone and adapting to your habits. Honor is working with Microsoft to bring cutting edge AI technology to the Honor View 10 using the Neural Processing Unit (NPU) that accompanies the Kirin 970 CPU. Features like real-time translation are many times faster and more accurate that other translation apps. The NPU will also play a big role in camera improvement, using AI for real-time scene and object recognition.

Find out more about the Honor View 10 here

I'm curious about some things:
1. How does the NPU work, an how does its capabilities differ from a CPU?
2. How many nm is the NPU?
3. Is the NPU true "AI" or is that term used to suggest future uses?

What does NPU means??

1. What kind of rear cameras? Does it have wide-angle?
2. Does it have some kind of screen protection?
3. Is it better than Oneplus 5T?

Name was View 10, shortened as V10, similar to V9 etc.

1. Aside from the scene recognition in camera and language translation, what else do you plan to use the NPU majorly for in future?
2. The EMUI seems to hamper your update speed as you have quite a heavy skin overlaying the android. Do you plan to improve on this?

An question I have always wanted to ask is why do some huawei and honor phones have the rgb and mono colour sensor arrangement? Does the arrangement have any kind of advantage?

Will Honor View 10 with the help of NPU be able to respond to the user - face - unlock, recognize moods and based on them to match the content of messages - which are of interest to the user?

Yes to all 3 questions.
dual rear camera 20 MP Monochrome and 16 MP RGB sensors.

Based on specs the new Honor phones can able to reach the high-end category. That's great! But some of competitors' flagship smartphones have so much issues (screen flickering, burn-in pixels, bootloops, motherboard and/or battery problems, lags, etc.). What do Honor (Huawei) do to to prevent such problems, and how can the company make it's phones reliable and stable? Thank you in advance!

In terms of updates, what will be the approach for this phone?? Companies are now releasing updates really fast and that's one of the deciding factors for new customers. OnePlus is in the forefront in doing so and is doing really well with sales.
Also, will you be supporting warranty for phones that have root? People always love flexibility of flashing new roms and mods and having warranty intact even after doing so gives additional peace of mind.

I would like to know how the battery performs because of the full HD and the big screen

Whats the future for NPU ?

The View 10 already sounds like a nice flagship, but... how much it'll be supported about the third-party development sector? I mean, kernel and source codes will be released to the public shortly after the phone's arrival on market, or it'll take longer? That's one of the most important things to me. For the rest, i already gave a look on the technical details of this device and so at the moment i don't have other questions to do to the team about phone specs. What is still missing are answers about support once that the phone will be available!

+1, nice question. I was just about asking that too, that's a fundamental point.

Exactly what are your plans regarding the npu in the short term? I know it can gradually improve image treatment with lower power cost but are you using it right now and can it be used to improve optical stabilization?
Also, what do you think is the most important of exciting feature for you we should test and use on this phone?
On my honor 7 I had several updates but only one big So upgrade. What are your plans regarding that issue? Do you plan to at least support the next 2 Android releases? What support time frame can we expect if I'm lucky enough to get the phone (really looking to upgrade my honor 7

How will the phone use the NPU to improve User Experience?
Will the NPU be able to some processing shenanigans for images like the Google AI?
Will the Honor View 10 have its own Smart Assistant thanks to this NPU in the future?

These are some things which I would like to know...
1. How is the View 10 NPU different from other already available AI enabled processors? How does it differ from the Snapdragon 845 which would be used in the upcoming high end Android phones from other manufacturers.
2. How do you plan on utilising this 'NPU' to enhance the everyday usage of a common smartphone user?
3. Your plans on software updates for Huawei smartphones and involvement with the developer community. We, at XDA, strive to make smartphones run even after support from manufacturer ceases. How much developer friendly is this new NPU?
4. How are other issues like battery, longetivity, durability and costumer services addressed with your increasing portfolios? Smartphones are the most abused piece of tech on this planet. The fact that they last long and survive the brunt of rough usage is a very important deciding factor for a smartphone buyer.
5. Obviously not like how AI has been depicted in movies, but how much can I rely on AI. How does this revolutionize the smartphone industry. Can I expect AI to respect my privacy and not open me up to ever increasing cyber threats.
6. What are your views on some of the latest fiascos in the smartphone industry like Apple admitting to slow down their smartphones to protect the battery. Does Huawei also believe that Apple was right in doing so and would it also walk down the same path anytime in the near future? ( P.S. added later)

Is it going to be launched worldwide or is it going to be tailored to a specific market?

Not related to the above, but i like to share my thoughts on some initial worries people have about the phone.
1) battery life
While it is indeed a comparatively smaller 2900mAh battery, but its running on a 5.1 inch screen phone. It all comes down to optimization. Samsung S7 was 5.1inch, 2k screen, 3000mAh phone and had decent battery life. The google pixel with 5", 1080p & 2770mAh is not so great in battery life.
So lets hope Honor has optimized it well along with the 90% minute charge in 30 mins being a big relief.
2) The Kirin 950 performance
here again, while on the sheet K950 is not the latest out there, but as seen from real life test of opening apps and ram management, the Huawei phones like Mate9, Honor 8 are actually putting better or on par performance than other phones like One Plus 3T, Iphone 7, S7 Edge, Pixels, etc . And it all has to do with Huawei's EMUI doing some great job in the software department and if that is the case with Honor Magic and its own new UI as well then it should not be a worry.
That said, this is obviously not a phone for hardcore gamers considering its size and design.

Agreed. If we pay 35K+ for this phone then we may expect a better battery for sure. not sure in real world how it would perform with 2900 mAH battery but seems Magic UI is light weight than EMUI so we may expect a better performance or battery. lets see how it goes.
I will also add that the Kirin 950 running a 2k screen should also not be a worry as Honor Note 8 with a massive 6.6" 2K display also runs on the Kirin 955.
When compared to Mate 9 20 mp camera, difference is Mate 9 can take better videos with 4k video recording and OIS and it has that nice zoom feature. Besides that there is not much difference and the quality of regular photos aren't any different on the Mate 9.
In short, if really heavy games and high quality video recording are priority to you, then obviously Honor magic is not for you. To be fair Kirin 950 works perfect with games and yet to find any users of P9 series or Honor 8 complain to that effect. But the Kirin 960 is more future proof having twice more powerful GPU and VR capabilities. Also the 2900mAh battery capacity is not best if you spend most of your time on games. Honor magic is also not outstanding if you want to get a phone for real cheap. The Honor 8 is 170$ cheaper than the Magic.
Honor magic shines & seperates from the rest at having a gorgeous unique looking device curved on all 8 sides with 7.8mm at thickest and thins out to about 3mm at the edges. It is also currently the only phone at handy size of 5.1 display having a curved screen. With a 2k Amoled screen display adding to the pleasure.
Despite 2900mAh which is quite normal for a phone of this size , there is the super charger getting 90% in 30 minutes with added safety measures in place as well. The extra front infra red camera & sensors and the front finger print sensor should make getting your notifications and daily usage much more of a relief.
That said, im still having fingers crossed fingers on the UI firstly if it works well with non-Chinese language and don't end up with lot of Chinese stuff popping up that cannot be stopped. If an international version does come out, im not sure if it will bring any of the Magic live contextual aware features, and even if they do so whether it can be ported to the China version of the phone. And secondly since this rom is different from EMUI, it is still at early development stage and with Android 7 update not yet out, i hope i don't miss any crucial & loved features of EMUI 5.0.

Agreed completely mate. You have pointed sone really important things here. Lets wait for the global release, if planned any, and see hows the real world experience .
From what im reading, the face recognition on this phone is unique from previous iterations on other phones, in that it recognizes only a 3D face and hence not a photo. And secondly, it can recognize in the dark as well.

Honor 9 due to its handy size for sure and the blue color. Wish to own one
I will get a honor when they match the developer friendliness of Oneplus/OPPO
Again and again the hard choice stock Android or customer skin ??
I bought the Honor 9 because the Op5 was $150 more. Would have opted for the Op5 but my budget just wouldn't allow me to.

I just hope that someone from USA should file a legal suit on Honor brand because they promised the same 2 year software update policy and launched H8 there, that would teach a lesson to them. Brands like these won't sustain in the long run and they will quickly fall from the current rise once consumers lose their confidence.
Moto recently faced a back lash from social media and users alike for not including g4 plus in Oreo update, later they apologized and updated the list.
Consumers won't forget anything soon and these kind of things definitely hamper a brand's image and reputation.

The quick update moto died when lenovo bought them. it was easy to maintain and update almost stock rom when you only have 2 model lineup. now that they have c, e, g, m, x and z plus god knows how many lenovo models, I don't think they could keep up with the update demand.
Do you have any idea when they will launch Honor 9 in India ? I am really tempted by stylish Honor or should I go for Moto X 4? I prefer 5 inch phones for one handed use.

No idea on launch date. Hope they launch soon. May be December end or January start. Lets see
having owned a honor 9 for a few months, i have to say the oneplus 5 is the better device, less bloated, and a much more enjoyable experience, also it's not trying to copy iOS.

replace the stock launcher with Nova or other, change the theme and you'll get better looking interface. Op5 surely didn't copy iOS but it surely looks exactly like the iPhone 7 plus
Definitely honor 9..its a beauty..
Really, the Honor wins the comparison due to the color of it's body? I would never ever buy a phone in that color. The black of the OnePlus 5 is so beautiful. Oh, and they say in the last sentence about the OP5, "The bezels are large.". Sorry? How are the bezels larger than on the Honor?
This infographic is BS.
XDA looses credibility when this kind of sponsored BS is indistinguishable from a real reviews. this graphic looks nice, but doesn't really compare anything.

Never support anyone to buy Honor devices, they abandon the capable hardware by saying OS updates not possible due to compatibility issues with SOC, they did it with Honor 7. Bought Honor 8 for 29k INR over OnePlus 3, it's not even been a year since launch, now h8 retailing at half of the original price, where as op3 still selling at 26K INR, I regret my decision of buying and supporting Honor 8 over OP3 ,OP3 already into Oreo beta , where as Honor is trying to abandon the H8 with out updates, never buy these brands like Honor and Xiaomi, they are good for low cost cheap vfm mobiles where consumers look for pricing than to premium features, Lost trust in Honor brand, no developer friendliness, poor update support, they promised 2 year software update policy on H8, it got launched in Nov 2016 in India , just one year old and they abandoned the device already , and I suggest XDA don't lose their reputation by promoting such a kind of brand.

OMG technology announced by Richard Yu from Huawei

Recently, I saw an article(https://www.tabletowo.pl/2018/05/23/honor-rewolucyjna-technologia-nowy-smartfon/) talking about a revolutionary technology declared by Richard Yu, which will possibly be the direct successor of Honora Magic presented in December 2016 guessed by some editors.
Frankly speaking, I am so curious about what it will be and so looking forward to it, given that Huawei actually has made some spectacular innovations in smartphone industry such as introducing NPU, and I want to discuss with you guys about it. Are there some ideas about it from you?
I saw some technical guys proposed that it might be changing virtual mechanism in the underlying system of Android. Richard Yu has pointed out that the reasons to Android system nonfluency when using for a long time is Android system using JAVA virtual transcoding mechanism which deeply reduce the efficiency of softwares and hardwares. If Huawei can really solve the efficiency problems of the underlying system of Android, no doubt it will be a revolutionary technology and significantly improve the product’s performance experience!
Did some research and find an article https://www.gizchina.com/2018/05/23...y-tech-to-arrive-in-june-with-an-honor-phone/
Firstly, the so called 'very scary technology' is from the president of Huawei, Yu Chengdong, so the news is highly authentic.
The next question would be, what is the revolutionary technology. This news just remind me of Honor magic, a hand phone includes some advanced technology at that moment such as Magic Live and Magic Power, which refresh people's understanding of the application ofAI technology in smartphone. Now, a new phone would be released in June with 'scary technology', I suppose it would be Honor Magic 2 and the technology might be another innovation and progress in AI technology because the AI and self-developed independent NPU are the major characteristic and selling point of Huawei and Honor products. So I guess it is Honor Magic 2 with an innovative AI technology. But I have no idea what kind of field the AI technology will be applied to.

Here it is. From the statement of President Yu, a 'scary' technology will be applied in a new phone named Honor play, which means a new phone will be released to promote its new technology. If the new technology is as power as it was described, the Honor play will be a strong competing products of S9+ and iPhoneX. Now I understand why Huawei removed the bootloader unlock. They are confident that all its products with this new technology is fast enough, which makes roots unnecessary. The consideration of technology leak might also be another reason.
expecting the revolutionary technology!! I saw some news that the new technology will be used in the new Honor Play which is going to be launched on 6th June in Beijing, China and it is related with artificial intelligence! very look forward to it and if there are any technology geeks who can give a possible answer to what it is ?

It seems that all the geeks only care about bootloader unlock rather than focus on something that is able to make the root unnecessary. This is sad.

According to president Yu, it is a revolutionary technology, but it is weird that the technology is equipped with a brand-new Honor hand phone rather than putting it on a Huawei's product. So I was thinking of the technology is not that shocking.
Just 1 day left. I will check the launch event tmr and bring the latest news to you guys.
The revolutionary technology of Honor is GPU Turbo. It is a revolutionary graphics processing acceleration technology. According to Geogre Zhao, the president of Honor, it is a hardware-software integration which dramatically increases graphics processing efficiency of mobile phones. The GPU Turbo reconstructs the traditional graphics processing framework the lower layer system, greatly enhancing the user experience by improving 60% of the graphics processing efficiency while reducing SoC energy consumption by 30%. Additionally, the GPU Turbo allows Honor devices to achieve outstanding graphics quality, even if the mobile game application does not support High Dynamic Range imaging. This technology will be gradually applied in Honor smartphones including Honor 10, Honor View 10, Honor 9 Lite, and Honor 7x. Well actually BBK group is the largest Chinese manufacturer and includes Vivo,Oppo and OnePlus.
And all of three produce high cost smartphone even in mainland China.

I dont think nex 2 will have this solution, I think they just want to try it out and see how people perceive it.
Right now there is too many compromises with a dual screen. When it does not affect thickness, battery capacity and price its a better idea.
overall I think Lenevo Z5 did do a better job it looks more stylish, nex version looks like a prototype in comparison. And the circular Selfie light does not look good at all even if it is functional
One thing is sure dual screen version won’t have the same success as original Vivo Nex.
Simple Vivo experiment with futuristic design and unique style but as much gorgeous is dual screen display has many disadvantages over original Vivo Nex.
The real successor of Vivo Nex will be unveiled sometime in May or June and will have newer Qualcomm 855 SOC and hope 1-2 improvements for example waterproof ip67/68 certification or stereo sound and NFC.

I hope Vivo Nex will follow same pop up design , I hope it does not jump into the slide trend.
Pop up solution will hopefully be easier to convince people that it is reliable after from what I have seen no reported problem on failing motors on the selfie camera. Its good that Vivo offer different type of solutions rather then just putting all money into one solution, I like when they give us choice, which has been less and less the last years since the statistics of high volume sells have become more important for manufactures they want to have less models so they can brag about they sell more then iphone etc rather then offering more models how it was in the past. Huawei did do a good job offer a real phablet size of mate 20 x .
People in general think the pop up camera is a cool solution but the general consensus from the people is that they think the motors will break over time. Of course only time can judge that, I think people are way too skeptical about it, most people don't have their phone more then 2 years, the battery will be worthless in 2 years so I would worry more about the battery personally.
Even if we ditch the motorized solution, I dont think we should adop the slider solution, it compromises too much of the robustness of the general body, also makes it more vulnerable for dust and dirt. A spring based solution for the pop up camera is also and idea. What most people are worried about is that if the motor dies the camera gets unusable, to send into service is not a option since vivo dont have service centers outside china more or less, but in case the motor go bad there should be a spring inside so you can atleast pop up the camera with the spring when you push at the pop up area of the phone. Otherwise all we can do is see and wait how well the motors pass. Personally I have not been using the selfie camera alot of times ,I doubt I have even open it 1000 times in the last few months for instance. If you use snapchat alot and have not blocked selfie camera access I guess this number will go up fast.

The launch event will take place on the 24th of February. You can tune in to watch the event live using this link!
We know for sure that at least two products will be launched at this event, including the OPPO Find X5 and Find X5 Pro. The two new phones will make up the new X5 series. There is always a possibility that other products will be launched at the same event, like smart accessories, new apps, or OPPO services.
While the event will focus on all of the new hardware found in the Find X5 series, we will also get a closer look at ColorOS 12.1. This is the OS that will be shipping with both phones at launch.
While we don’t have all of the details on the new OPPO Find X5 Pro just yet, some images of the phone are available ahead of the launch.
We will update this thread as new information becomes available, so make sure you check back for more.
Update: We now know that the OPPO Find X5 Pro will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC. This is the latest chipset from Qualcomm and will be found on many flagship devices being launched in 2022. The fact that we know that this will be included as the chipset for the Find X5 Pro suggests that this will be an all-around premium device with top-of-the-line hardware.
Update: More leaks have revealed a new NPU developed by OPPO called the MariSilicon X Imaging NPU. This is a dedicated NPU that will take on the responsibility of processing imaging data for the Find X5 Pro. Expect to see better HDR photos, improved RAW data, and impressive shots from complex lighting environments.
Thank you to OPPO for supporting this thread.
Excited to get hands on this beauty! Curious how the combo of the new MariSilicon X, OPPO’s imaging NPU, and the announcement of the partnership with Hasselblad will be reflected in camera output. Sounds quite promising
Partnership with Hasselblad!
The camera module looks unique
Hope the quality is good too...
I can't wait to read about the Ambassador programm chosen ones, because if I end being a part of it... Well... Can't wait to dig in both the hardware and the software.
Manufactureed where?
No SD Card slot like the Pixel, I'll have to pass
I'm guessin' it gets a pass on the US?
