Dbrand Matte Black skin with metal plate underneath - Essential Phone Accessories

Love my PH-1 naked. Love using my magnetic car and desk mounts. Hate all the cases I've tried so far (Tudia's entire line).
Tried running the PH-1 naked with a metal plate stuck to the back, but it looked odd, and after a week, the black coating on the plate was starting to show wear around the corners, exposing bare metal.
So, I used a Dbrand dragon skin (sorry, no pictures) on my first attempt and while it turned out OK, there were a few issues. The black dragon skin has a fair amount of texture and is thicker than their matte skin, so it made for a less clean border around the plate under the skin. And after looking at the two skins side-by-side for a day or so, I decided I liked the looks of the matte better.
Here's the matte black. (Pictures taken with my HTC One M8, so you can be sure I think the Essential's camera is awesome!)

To apply, as mentioned I already had the plate stuck to the ceramic back. I lined up the top portion (use the tiny microphone hole as your initial up/down and left/right guide, make sure you have plenty of light so you can see it), then guided the rest of the skin down gently, making sure it stayed aligned left and right. I did NOT press it down, instead I took a blow dryer on high heat and warmed the whole skin up. Doing this lets it stretch over the plate, and then you can work the "slack" material down with a finger.
I like it, a lot. I did have some second thoughts, the circular metal plates that come with most magnetic mount kits might have looked better, keeping with all the circles already on the back of the PH-1. But in the end, I decided I liked the larger surface area with the big rectangle plate, it's more stable on a flat surface and it gives you as stronger mount and more room to adjust up/down on a mount. YMMV.

I should also mention that the 360 camera works fine with this skin, and the black dragon. Just be sure to use some heat or (friction heat) to really work the skin down around the contact point area to get it as flush as possible. With the matte skin, the camera works 100%, with the thicker and uneven dragon skin, about 1 out of 10 tries I would have to wiggle it a bit.

I've tried a metal plate and another 3m adhesive sticker and neither of them stuck, even after cleaning with alcohol. How did you get yours to stick?
I really like what you did with the skin! I prefer the phone naked but I love my magnet mounts.

In most kits there's a thin piece of adhesive film that is meant to go between the plate and phone. Get that stuck on to the phone good, then stick the plate to the film. The thin film just gets a better bond on smooth surfaces than the 3M (or generic) adhesive on the plates.

Do the thin 'protector' stickers leave any residue or worse?
I've been carving the TPU in the backs of my Spigen case forever, but I've been afraid to actually stick the plate (with or without sticker) to my phones for fear of marring the finish. (I'm coming from all Apple aluminum clad iPhones here, so I imagine the coating on the PH-1's ceramic would be significantly different. On my iPhone X, I even went so far as to adhere the plate to the plastic portion of the case and throwing the protector sticker over that, since the phone's back is glass.)

No real risk of residue on the ceramic at all.

Slim case that covers the entire metal bezel?

I purchased the S-Line Note 4 clear case with kickstand and it fits ok but it doesn't cover the bottom bezel portion that's under the home button. I've heard that the Ringke clear case has the same problem as well. Any ideas where I can find a clear case that covers the entire lip/metal portion of the Note 4? It doesn't have to be clear but it would need to be a soft case and not a hard one because I don't want the case itself scratching the phone after putting the case on and off a couple dozen times.

I was thinking about buying that one. Is it a soft case though? I don't want a hard case scratching up my phone. Did you buy one? Can you take pictures of it please?

Spigen Ultra Hybrid. I have The crystal clear. I had The same concern about scratches & I'm completely satisfied with this One.

Let Me see if I can attach One on this app, #noob
It is a soft "hard" rubber case. It is made out of a TPU type silicone. It isn't flimsy. You shouldn't have to worry about it stretching out of shape over time. You have to have battery removal OCD or something for that to happen. lol
I Usually Don't Beg For a "Thanks", but help a sista out if this was helpful. (^.~)
Thank you for the pictures. It seems like your case doesn't fully cover the lip at the top of the phone. My case covers everything except the bottom lip of my phone.

Lip Fully covered unless You ate referring to The bezel (white part of screen?) if so, that part had no contact on a flat surface with this case & glass screen protector.
I'm talking about the white bezel around the glass. It looks like your case covers the white bezel on the sides of your phone but fails to protect the top portion. What if your phone falls and smacks the top bezel instead of the lip of your case?

Just looks that way because the case is clear. Here are some more images from their site.

The "case capsule" is pretty slim too. Entire front bezel covered as well.
Seems like the case covers the entire bezel around the glass in those marketing pix. Why does the sides on your pix look yellowish white?
Check out how the case doesn't fit right beneath the home button. I need someone that protects the entire bezel on all sides.

There is a glass screen protector on it as well. I am just as anal about protecting All My Gadgets. Believe Me! I am an accessory junkie I have more cases coming. This One was affordable and won't damage through finish. The lip is slightly raised as well. If it did fall flat on its face it would not get scuffed. I have this case. Tempered glass screen guard & a purse/pouch I put My phone in when it's in My handbag! I Do Not walk The streets of NYC w/ "The precious" exposed by any means. When must make a phone call in public I do say in a spot I deem "safe", that includes from being snatched out My hand to an accidental drop by slip of The hand or a bump during rush hour. I am all over this. I know for Me, this is a good minimalistic setup. Will work great for My car holster as well. I Hate Bulky Cases. Everytime I bought an Outter or something equivalent; I regretted it. Likr someone replied earlier, it's hard to get a good sense of The fit. I have a wallet case on The way as well; I found on eBay. Hope You find something that works for !

Spigen New Hybrid - thin - classy loooking - Metal outshell - Rubber Inner Shell - great protection - covers the areas you are concerned about - and I think is the classiest looking case made today.
Good Luck - hope this helps

I noticed that, too. FWIW, I have the same case on a charcoal black Note 4; there's no discoloration.
Ended up ordering the Ultra Hybrid Crystal Clear case. Thanks for the input folks.
Slapped on the Spigen Ultra Hybrid onto my White Note 4. Covers up the white bezel below the home button better than my S-Line clear case but not completely. Bummer...
I bought the Ringke Fusion case off amazon and been satisfied. It covers the bezel and has port covers too.

Spigen Capsule for Note 4

I saw this case and seems to be very effective. I don't care about scratches in the chamfered edges as the metal polisher does his job very well. I just don't want to have scratches in the backpart or the painted bezels, and put the phone face down without scratching the screen. Does anyone have this case? Also, I want to know what material is it, TPU? Plastic?

The back part is a grippy tpu material the border is plastic or metal depending on which version you get. This case hasn't scratched my bezels or edges at all and it does have a slight lip to protect the screen when laying on flat surfaces.

I had one on my Galaxy S5. Its a tpu style case. It had a small lip so you could lay it flat face down with no worries.
I got this case. Like stated above its a tpu case with a grippy back. Does have a lip so u can lay it face down. Adds very little thickness to the phone. Buttons are very responsive i just wish they stuck out a bit. The buttons are flush with rest of the case as shown in the first picture
I have this case as well. It's thin, it's grippy and I haven't noticed it leaving a single mark on the phone yet.
Only downside I can think of is the quite sharp edge surrounding the USB port on the bottom which might make it less comfortable to hold if you hold the phone with your pinky at the bottom.
Overall I think it's a great case

I also have the Spigen "Neo Hybrid" case. Fits well, buttons are very responsive, no complains. I just would like it to be thinner but given the fact that this case was the only one I could find in Uruguay for my Note 4 I can't complain at all.
I recommend it.
Regards.
I have this case, I got it mainly because I loved the Bounce case for my note 3.
I really like it it's thicker than that normal tpu and feels good in the hand. It covers everything minus the screen and the cutouts are right. I think it's worth the 10.00 price tag, it's not as thick as the bounce case, but it still works well.

For a case that fits and protects, and is aesthetically suiting, I'd agree that $10 is very reasonable.
the buttons might get annoying.. i had the spigen with kickstand and the buttons annoyed the hell out of me. for a simple tpu case, i always go with diztronic.
also.. WTF spigen?? really auto focus embossing?
Don't buy this case, I was dumb enough not to read the reviews on amazon before purchasing it off of eBay! The case scratches the beveled shiny edges of the note 4, if you don't believe me check amazon for yourself.

nice try but its TPU it does not scratch the case, i have 3 of these and not a single scratch on either note 4 phone.
If this case scratches the sides so do all the other spigens with tpu inside. The only one that does scratch is the hardened plastic thin one (which i also have as well).
This is a comparison even though it wasn't specifically asked for. The Capsule case was my first purchase for the Note 4 because I liked the look, but it only led to dissappointment for me. Thus my reason for the comparison.
Spigen Capsule case:
Cons:
It is a loose fitting case compared to some of the others I prefer. Allows sand and dust in between the case and the phone which then causes the scratching that everyone talks about. Desert evironments are particularly bad.
It is a sharp case (it won't cut you, but it can be uncomfortable) at the bottom near the usb port and along the edges.
The button coverings are mediocre at best. They make button pressing less appealing especially for the volume.
Pros:
The case is fairly attractive for a TPU case (more so in pictures than in person).
The case has decent grip
Slim case
Samsung's Protective cover is the same size and profile:
Cons:
Not the most grippy case, but adequate.
Pro's
Slim case
Tight fit on the phone. Little room for particles to get trapped between the bezel and the case.
No sharp edges.
Does not collect grime and oil smudges like most cases. I literally never have to wipe it down.
Best looking TPU case I have seen for the Note 4.
Button coverings are clicky and feel great
Capsule pics
Protective Cover pics
I have read a lot of good reviews on the Samsung Protective Cover. It seems like you really can't go wrong with that one.
I have the Neo Hybrid Metal version which looks very similar to the capsule. My case has been on for 30+ days and I removed it to look for scratches. Nothing. Looked great. It looked just as great as the day I put it on. I think the scratching may occur when dust/debris gets between the phone and the case. I am very anal about cleaning every surface before I put the case on.
Also I have a at&t note. Read carefully it seems verizon and sprint variants moved one of the microphone holes. A lot of people are drilling new holes to uncover the relocated microphone...
will this case stand on its side and bottom on its own?

Otterbox Defender + Foil Mod + Spigen GLAS.tR Install = Great Success

So I have owned the Otterbox defender series case since it came out and it hit me during the week how much I missed using the fingerprint scanner as added security feature. Being that I was also hating the fact that my temporary screen protector I bought from T-Mobile after buying the phone and the built in screen protector from the defender case made white spots on the film screen protector which too was annoying to keep clean constantly. I placed an order for the Spigen GLAS.tR per the great reviews on the forums and also on Amazon. I figured today would be a good time to mod the case to regain a function that I used to enjoy.
First step in the process was to take an x-acto knife and remove the built in screen protector.

Next the foil mod install with tape to secure the foil from moving around.
The Spigen GLAS.tR install went buttery smooth.
Now with the phone inside the bottom part of the plastic shell of the defender case.
Now a close up shot of the the top and bottom plastic shell assembled onto the phone, with the foil on the exposed square.
No annoying conductive tape on the rim of the phone like some people did to their cases.
Looks like stock, with 100% functionality.
Hope this helps people wanting to do this.
Very Nice !
Why not just use a hair dryer to remove the stock Defender screen protector instead of cutting it out?
Does the phone move around at all inside of the Defender with the stock protector removed?
Does the plastic edges of the Defender hit the edges of the Spigen Glass protector at all?

Being the phone was designed to have your natural electricity complete a circuit for the finger print scanner to work. Putting any kind of case that does not conduct electricity decreases the effectiveness from slim to not. Since the foil is touching the metal sides of the phone, it completes the circuit, henceforth re-enabling the fingerprint scanner with a completely enclosed case.

100% Working solution for note 9 whitestone dome glass glue issues

MANY PEOPLE HAVE POSTED ISSUES WITH THE WHITESONE DOME GLASS FOR NOTE 9 LIKE LIFTING, SPIDERWEBBING AND LINT ACCUMULATION ON SIDES. SO I TRIED SEVERAL LOCA GLUES AND FOUND THIS SOLUTION THAT RESOLVES ALL ISSUES FOR GOOD, ONCE AND FOR ALL. SO SHARING THE SAME FOR BENEFIT OF EVERYONE.
I have got this [link below] and it is amazing. The glue is 100 times better than what whitestone ships the product with. There are tons of pros with just 1 cons as under:
PROS:
1. GLUE QUALITY IS MINDBLOWING.
2. THERE ARE NO SPIDER WEBS OR SCREEN LIFTING ISSUES AT ALL.
3. THE GLUE CURES IN 10 SECONDS FLAT.
4. ABSOLUTE 100% CLARITY AND NO UNEVENNESS AT ALL.
5. NO DRIPPING OF GLUE ONCE ALL SCREEN AREA IS COVERED.
6. 100% NO RESIDUE AFTER TAKING OFF THE PROTECTOR FROM SCREEN.
7. JUST SLIDE IN YOUR FINGERNAL OR A SQUEEGEE FROM BOTTOM AND GLASS LIFTS WITHOUT BREAKING LIKE BUTTER.
8. ULTRA FIRM ADHESION TO SCREEN UNLESS YOU TAKE OFF THE GLASS BY USING YOUR FINGERNAIL OR A SQUEEGEE.
9. GLUE CURES TO FORM A FILM SO NO LINT ON THE SIDES AROUND THE SCREEN PROTECTOR AT ALL.
10. AFTER APPLICATION, USING ALCOHOL WIPE DOES NOT TAKES OFF, PEEL OR MELT THE GLUE, SO USING WIPE WITH PRESSURE CLEANS SIDES WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS AND DOES NOT DISTURB DOME GLASS ADHESION AT ALL.
11. JUST THE RIGHT QUANTITY OF GLUE SO GLASS ADHERES FIRMLY WITH EVENNESS AND DOES NOT MAKE IT LOOK THICK LIKE THE STOCK WHITESTONE GLUE WHICH CURES ONLY HALFWAY.
12. GLUE DOES NOT SHRINK OR CONTRACT, SO NO SIDE BUBBLES ALONG SIDES OF THE PROTECTOR AND SCREEN.
13. PRICE IS PEANUTS FOR THE QUALITY OF GLUE.
14.IF GLUE GOES OVER YOUR SPEAKER GRILL, NOT TO WORRY. SIMPLY CURE IT WITHOUT WIPING AND WHOLE OF GLUE COMES UP WITHOUT ANY RESIDUE ON SCREEN OR SPEAKER GLASS.
15. WORKS BEST WITH WHITESTONE DOME GLASS FOR A PERFECT FIT.
16. SCREEN LIFTING, SPIDERWEBBING OR LINT ACCUMULATION ON SIDES OF THE PROTECTOR FIXED FOR GOOD.
17. I AM USING THE DOME GLASS ON NOTE 9 SINCE 6 MONTHS WITHOUT ANY OF THE ABOVE ISSUES.
THIS IS HANDS DOWN 1000% PERCENT BETTER QUALITY UV GLUE WHEN COMPARED TO WHAT WHITESTONE SHIPS WITH DOME GLASS FOR NOTE 9.
NOW WE CAN USE THIS INSTEAD OF THE GLUE FOR THE WHITESTONE DOME GLASS FOR NOT 9 THAN THE GLUE SHIPPED WITH WHITESTONE DOME GLASS KNOWING THAT IT WILL BE A PERFECT FIT WITH NO LIFTING, BUBBLING OR GLUE COMING OFF THE SIDES OR LEAVING ANY RESIDUE ON SCREEN AT ALL.
I HAVE BUMPED MY NOTE 9 A TIMES AND DROPPED MY NOTE 9 MANY A TIMES ON THE FLOOR. THE GLUE ADHESION IS SO GOOD, THERE IS NOT 1 SCRATCH, NOT 1 CRACK OR LIFTING AT ALL
*COMPLETE PEACE OF MIND*
ONLY CON:
THE DOME GLASS HAS A FILM ATTACHED TO THE SURFACE THAT STICKS TO DISPLAY SCREEN. IT HAS 4 DOTS IN CORNERS THAT REST ON SCREEN CREATING A GAP BETWEEN SCREEN AND DOME GLASS TO ALLOW LOCA GLUE TO SPREAD EVENLY. THE GLUE STICKS TO THIS PLASTIC SCREEN AND NOT TO OUR PHONE DISPLAY ALLOWING TO TAKE OFF THE DOME GLASS.
THE WHITESTONE GLUE SUPPLIED WITH DOME GLASS CURES ABOUT 50 % TO 60% AND IS SOFT LIKE A JELLY WHEN YOU TAKE OFF THE DOME GLASS FROM YOUR PHONE. ONE CAN PEEL OF THE GLUE COMPLETELY BY SLIDING IT WITH YOUR FINGERS.
HOWEVER, IF YOU USE THIS GLUE, IT TURNS INTO A FILM WHEN CURED AND FIRMLY BONDS ITSELF TO THE PLASTIC FILM BENEATH THE DOME GLASS. ON TAKING OFF THE GLASS FROM PHONE, IT DOES NOT PEEL OFF EASILY FROM THE DOME GLASS AND IF TAKEN OFF ENDS TAKING OFF THE 4 DOTS ON THE FILM BENEATH DOME GLASS WITH IT MAKING GLASS NOT USABLE AGAIN.
BUT THIS IS THE ONLY CON THAT IS BAD WHEN COMPARED WITH THE PROS OF THE GLUE. MY 1ST INSTALLATION MESSED UP BECAUSE I FORGOT TO USE SPEAKER GRILL STICKER. AFTER 2ND INSTALLATION I NEVER HAD TO TAKE OFF MY PROTECTOR SO ITS STILL BEAUTIFULLY SITTING ON MY NOTE 9 SINCE PAST OVER 6 MONTHS
TOTALLY WORTH IT AND 100% PEACE OF MIND.
PL NOTE I HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE COMPANY OR WITH THE BUYER. THEY NEVER SENT ME ANY SAMPLE FOR ANY TESTING. NOR DO I ENDORSE THEM FOR ANY REASON. THIS IS MY HONEST REVIEW POSTED FOR THOSE WHO REPORTED ISSUES WITH DOME GLASS SPIDERING OR LIFTING ON SIDES.

Accessories Accessories!!!

Dissappointed did not get the free clear case. My 6T until last day I shipped it for trade in used the free included case. Worked great, I really liked it, tried bunch from Amazon and just liked the free stock one.
I am using the Spigen hybrid case on OP9.
- fits well. But the interior is a dust magnet. Almost feels sticky, hard to clean off the dust and fingerprints.
- the exterior is a horrible mess of fingerprints!!
Pulen glass protector
- thick... too thick. Front does have cut out for camera. Clear, applied well. Not a fingerprint mess. Fits well with cases.
- the rear camera protector even thicker. It also cover the lense. Does not have cut outs for the lenses. I removed cause probably adds distortion. Did not do any scientific methods to test hypothesis.
Pulen clear case with floral print
- loose fit. Slips off easily, terrible
- the sides do not have a lip to cover and provide screen protection.
- returned back to Amazon.
- DO NOT BUY
Cresee silicone case
- It has a soft texture to it, really pleasant feel
- Fits the phone well, buttons feel great
- Great case for $10
Qitayo clear thin case
- Terrible buttons. The buttons are not recessed so they fit over the buttons, they sit right on top so it's really easy to click then. I can only imagine what a disaster it would be with the phone in the pocket.
- DO NOT BUY
Orzero Premium Tempered Glass x3
- Easy to apply, the case to assist proper alignment of glass was useful.
- No issues with touch sensitivity or fingerprint
- Would recommend over Pulen.
If anyone finds glass that is thinner than 0.3mm please let me know
For sound.
Love that BT connections show battery levels for each ear piece and case. This from mpow X6 and the OnePlus Budz.
Being able to switch audio output from volume rocker. I don't remember doing this on the 6T, OnePlus dragging feet on Android 11 update for that.
I still have dongle from 6T. Senn Hd58x, AT R70x and A990z all sound great.
For gym, mpow x6 seems best. For shopping and wandering around I prefer the Budz. Their call quality seems better to people I called.
Thanks for your input!
I'm using a spigen tough armor. Sturdy, well built, perfect fit, nice little kickstand, very good protection.
It does add quite a bit of bulk though. The buttons are flush with the case so it's not immediately obvious where they are, but you get used to it really fast of course. The kickstand is also flush with the case, which is nice.
I had a spigen slim armor on my previous phone, and this tough armor offers more protection, with a raised lip all around the screen. Given the choice, I'd prefer a little less bulk than this.
Wireless charging works just fine with this case.
So, I used the Pulen glass protector on her phone. But when I did, when I went to remove the default screen protector, I actually took off the glass from my phone and not hers, oops.
Bought Orzero.

So it comes with three, a case to help apply the glass, the usual alcohol swap, wipes and dost remover and glass sticker assists to help place the glass.
Result, the frame case worked great, it's the same dimensions as most cases. Was easy to align the camera cutout and ensure a proper fit. It's clear, smooth, the 2.5D edges are fine. Oleophobic coating is as good as I've used in the past. I have no problems with touch sensitivity or finger print reader. I think it's actually better than the Pulen.
Verdict: It's $8, comes with 3 glasses, with three sets of alcohol swab, cleaner, dust cleaners. The case is helpful. I'd recommend it.
And no I'm not testing how well it works for screen protection, I've used enough of these over the past, they are all the same. The only difference is ease of use or quality.
Between Pulen or Orzero, I recommend Orzero. Pulen is fine as well
Anccer case on Amazon is nice and thin. A glass screen protector is just barely recessed on the lip however. The worst is that it's a fingerprint magnet like no other.
I got Spigen glass and I´m really dissapointed with it.
Terrible response and lots of phamton touches over the screen.
Accessories this far:
Spigen Tough Armor
UniqueMe TGSP (which I swear by)
and today I got a dual sim tray for my
North American OP9. of course on AA firmware, I didn't get service in the second sim slot. But we'll figure that one out eventually.
Also Dbrand Skin.
I'm using Gadgetshieldz skins on my One Plus 9 for 2 months and it fits very well from edge to edge, I get scratches rarely but it protects the back of my phone from getting damaged.
