That's what I did after I changed my password right before flashing a new ROM.
I didn't know that you have to wait 24 hours when you change your password before you can use your account on a new or factory reset ROM so I just clean flashed again it without Gapps and it was fine.
Or the correct procedure would be to just remove your Google account before clean flashing/resetting to avoid these problems.
Nevertheless this is good info to know.

[Q] CM10.1 GApps reflash after ROM update

Hello,
I am using the No-Name CM10.1 builds and I'm not sure how to proceed every time I upgrade the ROM:
- If I don't reflash the GApps they won't work at the next boot.
- If I reflash the GApps, the Google account is lost and I have to go through the wizard at the next boot.
Am I missing something? Is there any way to avoid this issue?
Gotta re-add the account unless dirty-flashing, (flashing without factory reset, and I don't like to do that.)
Make sure to wipe-cache and dalvik 3 times each flash, otherwise just readd the account and setup sync or hope it works between dirty flashes.

I don't do a factory reset each time, I just flash the ROM and then again the GApps but this automatically deletes my Google Account from the device (which is quite annoying since I use the two step auth and I have to generate a new password each time).
Why do you suggest wiping three times cache and dalvik? Isn't one wipe enough?
I say wipe it 3 times just to make darn sure that it wipes properly, it isn't necessary but most issues with flashes are cache related from my experience, so I take the extra 30 secs to make sure.
You can try titanium backup to attempt to save your account as a flashable zip or as a tibackup restore file and keep the tibackup apk on an sd card or handy, but afaik google account wipes between rom flashes, sorry D:

Using latest TWRP here, 4 simple steps and my account is always there,
0. wipe system to be safe (not data)
1. flash latest cm10.1 zip
2. flash gapps (not latest, specific gapps from cm10.1 topic!)
3. wipe cache and dalvik (ONE time)
try it.. if the issue persist, i suggest a data wipe..

I had the same problem too a while back but the latest nightlies seem to have fixed that some how. I just wipe cache and dalvik cache and then flash the new nightly, then the gapps again, and voila.
Technically speaking flashing the ROM wipes system to ensure there are no "dirty flashes" ever. This has the side-effect of removing any gapps you have (and also not overwriting Google-files with AOSP-files).
So when you update you should just do like this:
1. boot into recovery
2. flash ROM
3. reflash gapps (before rebooting)
4. wipe cache and dalvik-cache
5. reboot.
That is all (and everything) which is required. No data or accounts should be lost

[Q] Unfortunately, the setup wizard has stopped

I need help stuck in error message.
Phone: Verizon Galaxy S3 Sch-i535
Ok Heres what it did
(Phone already rooted)
I Downloaded and Flashed a Custom Rom from goo. manager (Samsung Galaxy S III (Verizon) CyanogenMod - d2vzw / cm-10.1.2-d2vzw.zip) and The gapps that came along with it.
Also downloaded Ez unlock to unlock my boot loader. (unlocked the boot loader)
Phone was successfully flashed with the new CyanogenMod, everything booted up fine. But when the phone starts to setup, i get an error message saying: Unfortunately, the process com.process.gapps has stopped.
i click ok and it keeps popping up.
Also between that error message I get another error message saying: Unfortunately, Setup Wizard has Stopped.
Can't access any part of the phone. Just stuck in the error message loop.
I do however have access to the recovery mode options that let you Install, wipe backup restore, mount, settings, advanced, reboot.
PLEASE HELP
You flashed the wrong gapps. Just boot into recovery, wipe, flash only the rom, then find the correct gapps, download them, boot back into recovery, flash new gapps, reboot system and you should be good to go.:good:
Don't flash roms in goo manager. Learn to do it the right way.
What is the correct gapps for rootbox 4.x and why is flashing gapps necessary? Should the wipes be done before the gapps or after?
I had the same problem as hesbordofallofus and managed to get back into TWRP and flash my old 4.1.1 rom. I'd like to check out a 4.2.2 or 4.3 vanilla rom. Clean rom 5.5.1 works well but uses battery up fast.

and what is "The right way" ? i only used goo manager because i have a mac and it's a little bit more difficult to flash a samsung Device with a macbook pro.
The problem with goo manager is that, obviously there's a chance you're going to flash the wrong gapps. I don't use clockwork mod recovery because when I rooted my phone with CASUAL it installed TWRP. But, I assume they both work the same way. When you flash files from recovery, you have to manually download the rom and gapps packages from their respective servers so as long as you've done the reading and the quadruple checking, you will flash the correct files for YOU'RE phone. Learning how to boot into recovery manually, using the three button combo is a very important part of flashing roms. And getting comfortable moving around in whatever recovery you're using makes it less likely that you will make a fatal mistake.
I probably spend an hour or two reading in my phones' forum everyday. I want to make sure I understand how to do what I'm doing properly and have a plan for when things go wrong. So read, read, read!!!!!

the gapps package is necessary because the package is a set of apps like the Play Store, Gmail, and other google apps. You can't sign into you're Google account without Gaaps. The process is always this:
1: wipe Data+ Cache
2. Install ROM (updater-script in ROM zip wipes system for u)
3. Flash PROPER GAAPS
4. Reboot
Remember "System" is essentially your Operating system. So don't wipe that manually unless you have a nandroid or a ROM zip as a backup. There is really no need to wipe system manually in Recovery because a the updater-script in a ROM zip always erases system for u. Just worry about formatting data manually before flashing ROM. Also remember when you flash a Gaaps package it gets installed to your system partition NOT Data. Just some info for you. Remember if you don't know how to do something ASK!! nobody is stupid here and no questions are dumb. If it keeps you from bricking your device then ask. Also READ READ READ! Always make sure you know what you r flashing and that it is meant for your device. The last thing you want to do is to flash a kernel or ROM made for a different version of ur device.

I'm not sure what you mean by manually formatting data. I'm also not really sure what you mean when you say don't manually wipe. My personal opinion is, when in doubt follow the dev's instructions. So for instance, when I decided on PACMAN, I went to the dev's page, scrolled down to the links to the downloads, grabbed that, then used link to the gapps, grabbed those, and usually right under the links, there's a brief set of directions for installing the rom/gapps. I always just do what they say. It's become a routine for me to research, pick a rom, grab the files, make as sure as humanly possible I've got them correct, make a fresh nandroid, then proceed.
When I say manually wipe I mean going into the wipe menu in recovery and choosing wipe data etc

"The last thing you want to do is to flash a kernel or ROM made for a different version of ur device." Done that!
So the reason I couldn't get all my apps (I could see them) or get into playstore, log onto google find my contacts, etc. is that I didn't flash the gapps. BIG QUESTION: how do I know which gapps to flash? (BTW I dropped back to cleanrom 5.5.1 and it works fine but I can't send texts. I receive but can't send.) If I could I'd give it a rest and do my real work.
Usually the dev posts the Gaaps package you need in the OP if their thread or on their site.

[Q] After flashing no internet access

I had this problem, that I couldn't turn on WIFI. I didn't want to use the internet so flashed lollipop 5.0.1(from 4.4.4). When flashed to 5.0.1 it was rebooting every time the screen locked, so decided to go back to 4.4.4. At first everything was ok, but then the mobile network just stopped to work. I was ok to cope with the disabled wifi, but i really need the phone internet. What should I do? Already tried flashing stock and factory wiping a couple of times, didn't help
The 'tower' of signal strength looks orange, but there's an H on it

I don't get it. I've done it several times already, every time it showed that there is an incompatible version already. maybe the google stock image already contains some gapps?
the only time the install went through was when i just wiped /system and without reflashing rom tried to install the zip
maybe you can do a thorough step by step guide what i have to do? i thought that maybe i had to have root access, but after rooting nothing changed.
Oh, and i can't mount usb through CWM. if i proceed to startup, the device itself installs all the apps

NOTE: Ofc, the factory image has gapps included. Google owns gapps, in case you don't know.
Due to lack of info, I was mislead to think that you was running custom roms, and not a factory image.
The orange colored network indicators simply mean that you're not connected to Google Play services. This would NOT prevent you from accessing the internet on a browser for example - doesn't matter if on wifi or on mobile data - visiting www.google.com.
If you want to get a clean/fresh start, flash a factory image. I assume you know how to, so if you don't go read the guides on General. It's very simple.
That said, after flashing a factory image, and booting it, EVERYTHING should just work: adding your google account, connection to google play services, everything.
If you want to run custom roms, then you'll need a custom recovery (as suggested, TWRP), a custom rom, and an appropriate gapps version. Simple.

Ok, so I should just contact warranty if I got this after flashing stock? I cannot turn on wifi (the problem persisted before flashing) and now I have no internet connection. (I checked all the providers, and I have the right ones set there)
What should I do before I bring it to the warranty service?

Can't Get Any Gapps Working with CM12.1

I need to send my Nexus 6 in for a warranty replacement so I need to run my GS3 for a few days. It's been a while since I've used my GS3 so I wanted to get it all up-to-date first. I went and downloaded the latest nightly of CM12.1 and the "stock" TK Gapps.
I did a clean flash (factory reset, format system, flash ROM, flash Gapps) and when it boots up I get constant "______ has stopped" messages from all the google stuff. After I press "OK" as fast as I can for a minute I can get to the home screen, where I can see that all of the google app icons just show the little android guy (indicating it's not installed) and when I select any of them it tells me that the app is not installed.
I tried clearing cache and dalvik and that didn't work. I tried re-flashing from scratch and that didn't work. I tried the pico TK Gapps and that didn't work. I tried the stock and pico Open Gapps and that didn't work. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but no matter what I try the result is always the same.
One time, just as a sanity check, I flashed just the ROM and no Gapps and that worked fine. Not sure what that tells me but just something to note.
Please help.
I was also forced to do a clean flash of CM 12.1 + gapps recently. This gapps file worked for me: highonandroid.com/download-android-5-1-lollipop-gapps/ (I can't post a link since I'm new).
One issue: apparently it requires flashing with a recent version of TWRP recovery. Doing it with CWN or a old TWRP will return an error. Hope this helps.

[GUIDE] The correct way to flash custom ROMs

Since a lot of people have had trouble flashing Custom ROMs, I decided to create a guide that should work on every device (whether A/B partition or not) except on Samsung devices. For bypassing Decryption Issues, adb sideload the .zip files.
GUIDE
I am assuming you have unlocked your Bootloader, flashed TWRP and have some knowledge on ADB.
[This is known as a clean install or clean flash]
Turn off Lockscreen Security
Reboot to Recovery
Factory Reset
Format Data
Copy the .zip files from your PC to your phone / Plug in your USB OTG
Flash the ROM and then the Recovery Installer (No Magisk/SuperSU after)
Reboot to Recovery
Flash GApps and Magisk/SuperSU
Reboot to System
[This is known as a dirty flash]
To update the custom ROM or fix a error (Bootloop after successful first boot, No Service, etc.)
I am assuming you used my guide to flash the custom ROM
These are basically the same steps but without wiping or formatting data
Turn off Lockscreen Security
Reboot to Recovery
Flash the ROM (has to be the same ROM, updated is recommended, older versions may cause issues) and then the Recovery Installer (No Magisk/SuperSU after)
Reboot to Recovery
Flash GApps and Magisk/SuperSU
Reboot to System
LINKS:
Official GApps Website - GApps Github
Official TWRP Website - TWRP Github
Magisk Forum - Magisk Thread - Magisk Github
Official SuperSU Website - SuperSU Forum - SuperSU Thread - SuperSU Github
I recommend the Nano variant of GApps since I have had no error with it.
Enjoy!
[Disabler-ONLY]
`This is basically the same guide just if you want to flash Zackptg5's "Universal DM-Verity, ForceEncrypt, Disk Quota Disablers" or any other disabler which requires different steps.
[This is known as a clean install or clean flash]
Turn off Lockscreen Security
Reboot to Recovery
Format Data
Copy the .zip files from your PC to your phone / Plug in your USB OTG
Flash the ROM and then the Recovery Installer (No Magisk after)
Reboot to Recovery
Flash the Disabler, Magisk and then GApps
Reboot to System
Profit
Dirty Flash? You can't. Usually when using a Disabler you have to clean install your custom ROM.
To update use the method in the first post but for step number 5 Flash the Disabler, Magisk and then GApps
This is a bit much to do. Just use twinnfamous' twrp and you can flash a custom easily. Plus, I flash havoc over crdroid, then back and forth again. So you can flash over. Just have to wipe data and cache after ROM flash and twrp flash then reboot to recovery.
Basically:
Fastboot boot twrp (twinnfamous' 0.7)
Be on 9.0.7 firmware as most custom ROMs use this base right now I think..
Anyway, then flash twrp (twinnfamous' 0.7 installer zip)
Reboot to recovery
Now flash custom ROM
Flash twrp zip
Reboot to recovery
(You'll now be on the opposite slot as before, which means you are on the slot which your new custom ROM was installed)
Wipe > custom > data and cache wipe
Install opengapps nano and magisk 18.0
Reboot system
You'll boot right into the ROM setup screen with no decryption issues along the way as long as you do exactly as I said.
Have fun flashing!

You wasted that post just for this? I assure you that my tutorial guarantees success when using a official or unofficial version of TWRP or custom ROM, I also used the method you posted about but it did not work. Also what do you mean by "9.0.7"?
The GApps version you use doesn't have to be Nano and Magisk doesn't have to be v18.0. I'm sure you just copy-pasted this, my method should always succeed. The TWRP doesn't have to be from @twinnfamous , it can be from any developer. This is not a OnePlus 6T only guide.
This flashing process is difficult in my view. Why are you making the simple custom rom flashing process so difficult for the noobs.

Why are you angry? Haha.
And you linked this from the op6t forums so I'm commenting on that phone. And that's how it's done on that phone. And it does matter which twrp you use for THAT phone because one doesn't decrypt correctly.
Copy and paste? No... And nano is always best if you read xda basically anywhere. Not that I said you HAVE to use nano anyway.. it was just in my steps. And that works for me with any/every ROM. So don't be so opposed to other suggestions. Your method is really weird and involves way too much use of a computer/fastboot. Kind of defeats the purpose of using twrp, don't you think?

What is making it difficult is encryption/decryption not working right in twrp yet (just a guess). I was having a hell of a time getting anywhere myself and kept getting my storage all jumbled from encryption until I found this thread which put it together for me with the adb sideload part, that bypasses encryption or at least lets you flash what you want when the folder names get all wonky.
Thanks OP for laying it out so clearly for me, I am an old dinosaur that was hesitating on messing with this a/b nonsense until I got my 6T and got the itch again. My trusty dusty nexus 6 is so much easier but it's also been around and has one system and a solid twrp for it.
Cheers! :good:

Same here, I do not understand why I should flash a recovery img when twrp does seem to stay installed after flashing everything. Maybe the custom rom I use does include twrp ?
Custom rom means bugs, possible privacy leak and overall less polished. Developer that are working on them are fantastic but they are most of the time nowhere near as what offer the stock one.
What you need is to check adb, doesn't need root but you can still remove apps (even system one) and do more tweaks.
If needed, check how to patch boot image with magisk, it works on all phone and get you root.
With that, you're free to debloat your device.
Hey just one little question: is it ok to dirty flash with encrypted data folder ?
