Stock 4.4.4 ROM (KTU849) for WiFi Nexus 7 (2012) Grouper
Hi! This was created using @dsixda's kitchen (which I had to tweak for our device to get working). This was created by unpacking the latest KitKat OTA (KTU84P) and adding SuperSU/busybox...

Google Experience Launcher (GEL) or Launcher2 (NOGEL) - you will be asked which to use on first boot. Don't be afraid to pick "always use" you can change the default launcher at any time in Settings --> Home - What happened to GEL? Just grab the Google Now Launcher from play store (no room on /system partition)... If coming from a prior version with GEL and not wiping data you should be fine.

ONLY TESTED USING TWRP 2.7.1.1/2.8.0.0 - NOTE there was a buggy release of 2.7.1.1 that doesn't play nice with the update-binary in my zip. If any issue flashing/booting first verify MD5 and then flash latest TWRP linked towards the bottom of this page http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/grouper. Should also flash fine under CWM but I personally prefer TWRP. A future update may move to the newer update-binary and updater-script files used in ROMs compiled from source like CM.
May need to unplug and replug USB cable to see Nexus 7 storage under My Computer! (or toggle MTP in Settings --> Storage --> Menu button in upper right)
If coming from STOCK 4.4/4.3 I can't think of a need to wipe - otherwise if issue or coming from another ROM (PA, CM, etc.) please do a data wipe and cache/dalvik-cache wipe
GApps are the stock ones that come with this tablet - no need to flash GApps.
You will see a BUNCH of updates when you sign into Google if you've wiped Data - results in an initial slowdown.
Before you ask, no ART doesn't appear to be working. I will make a new AOSP-based ROM for 4.4.4 for those wanting ART.

To keep SuperSU toast notifications from causing any lag I go into SuperSU settings and uncheck Show notifications
In Settings --> Location I set mode to Battery saving. There's a lot to tweak here but this is all I've been setting.
In Settings --> Security under DEVICE ADMINISTRATION I uncheck Verify apps and check Unknown sources (mostly for Titanium Backup purposes)
I use AdAway to block ads (it edits your HOSTS file). No longer available on the Play Store (guessing because Google doesn't like the fact it blocks Google Ads...). I install the APK from here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2190753. I just use the defaults works well.

Does auto-rotate works in this ROM? I tried stock + Go launcher and auto-rotate don't work, but only work when manual set to Horizontal or Vertical from Go launcher setting!
Is this based on the KRT**0 or KRT**M build?

At time of writing the one to use is pa_gapps-full-4.4-20131118-signed.zip just flash it in recovery! Also be sure to turn on Google Now.

Xposed still doesn't support 4.4 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574401 But I will keep an eye on it! This is the first I've heard of it. Google \is moving away from all of the ICS blue theming everywhere, so you will see lots more white in 4.4...

Thanks! My ultimate goal was to get a stock 4.4 where rotation works and the keyboard doesn't pop when going home from other apps (the stock rom PA released was awesome though if you ignore those things and came out WELL in advance of OTA)... To do that I had to wait for the OTA and then it took me 5-6 days learning edify and how to use the kitchen
I will try to get the google experience (I believe it is Launcher3.apk?) working if I cut a new release, and look into getting ART available in dev settings.
I just connected my nexus to my laptop to move a few files but it doesn't pop up on my laptop like it used to so I can't move things via the USB cable

- isn’t cleaned from bloatware, but very battery friendly and smooth ...you can clean it yourself after following
- always locale CSC apps removed and unbranded
- without any mods, but read carefully following
Customize how you want an wish!
After install rom you can customize yourself with this guide:
Mods: easier way is use Xposed framework with Wanam Xposed. For example it included call recording, 4-way reboot menu, circle battery indicator and many many. Some screenshots also in attachment.
Very simple and short guide you'll find also in 2nd post.
Bloatware: you can do it yourself how you want through Es explorer or TitaniumBackup, what can you?, for example take inspiration from this post for S4, other you can find alone
Another and easier way is to use Rom cleaner according 2nd post (cleaning list attached)
Add-ons: last important thing is for me camera with hardware volume button, you can download and flash compatible Lite Camera mod from here. If you want add some another mod from i9300, you can me send link and I'll check compatibility, or modify for our model

Install:
- first of all backup all your data from internal SD card, 4.3 has different structure tree!!!
- if you go from 4.1.2 or older I recommend format internal card, if you don’t do it, on internal card were by me still data (DCIM etc...) and you can’t normal access them on 4.3, but even without formatting you can later move them from old folder to new one in 4.3 with Aroma file manager , for me easer way without format. Also is possible, that date will move automatically – also me happened
- bee sure, that you have EFS backup!!!
- create NanDroid backup to external card!!!
- download the *.zip file to external card!
- if you have new Bootloader download also Stock kernel
- download to Recovery
- ROM isn’t full wipe, but is recommended if you get from 4.1.2 and older
- wipe cache and Dalvik cache is automatically included in last version
- select ZIP file from external card and install
- don’t use re-root after installation inside recovery - you don’t need it, if you'll do, then you need install again SU apk from market
- reboot and wait and wait ...
- enjoy it
PS: if you get format system() error in CWM use last PhilZ Recovery
Note: if your camera doesn't work primary follow this (thanks @Hbohd and @P$T), if you don't have incriminated file, flash again Rom then immediately right Stock kernel from HERE - wifi doesn't work with old bootloader, then take photo, then flash again Rom without full wipe with kernel which you like. If your camera still doesn't work flash some Rom 4.1.2 (via Recovery or Odin) take picture, grab and backup incriminated files, then flash this Rom and put them to data/cwm. Don't forget backup your SlimISP_XX.bin for future. Problem with camera have average only cca 10 users JB 4.3 of 1000 usr..

Guide Rom cleaner:
- download ROM Cleaner v2.0 from original Rom cleaner post
- download user cleaning list ROMCleaner_user.txt from attachment
- edit ROMCleaner_user.txt only with OfficeSuite directly in mobile or Notepad ++ how you want
….this is "hardcore" cleaning list (I thing more isn’t possible). You can also it edit only with Notepad++. See into list what you want leave in your Rom a add in front of some *.apk this letter # may not be red . I wanted for example leave AccuweatherWidget.apk, then It will bee so #AccuweatherWidget.apk . Or leave another how it’s and you’ll get cleanest and fastest Rom.
- create on external card folder ../ROMCleaner (must bee exactly named), put there ROM_Cleaner_v2.0.zip and list ROMCleaner_user.txt from atachment
- reboot to recovery and flash ROM_Cleaner_v2.0.zip and use it, list will be automatically loaded and Rom cleaned from cca 330 Mb (more than 180 apks and files)
What remains after cleaning is seen in attachment.
You should NOT remove KNOX Apps if you´r on NEW BOOTLOADER! Use ROMCleaner_user - for users with Knox Bootloader.txt from attachment and after download rename it for ROMCleaner_user.txt
Nearer guide how it use you’ll find in original Rom cleaner thread
If you something screw up, nothing happened, flash again Rom without wipe

I use it without problem + Wanam Xposed apk, and for me is this best way for now. Battery seems quite same as JB 4.1.

It is pure Stock. But after open Superuser apk will anyway frozen. Complete you can remove yourself according guide.

Ehh.. It isn't hard to read a little. Bootloader might be installed only using Odin on PC. Rom in this thread is flashed in recovery. Now answer yourself

Did you wait, after reboot, until is complete system and sd card loaded? it will take some time after first start, we must bee patient .... till now it downloaded over 400 people and nobody written to me problem with camera

I tried to flash kernel but end up not booting up the phone. I used both mobile odin and cwm but same results. What am i doing wrong here?

This is a stock, rooted TW 4.3 rom based off of the recent ML1 update. It does not contain a bootloader or modem. KNOX has been NIXED too. ThePagel was able to grab the .tar which made this possible. Go throw a huge thanks his way.
First build was packaged in all of it's bloated glory. Just wanted everyone to see what all the update had to offer....minus the locked bootloader...lol
Second build, I did some debloating to see how much we could trim this thing up and still meet everyone's needs. Good thing I posted a .zip of all of the apps I pulled out, huh. One man's bloat is another man's treasure.
This time, I'll leave it up to you. I rebuilt it with Aroma to allow everyone to choose what apps get installed.
Big thanks to Imoseyon and Ktoonsez for allowing me to include their kernels. Go throw your wallet at them for making this phone run awesomely again.....or at least throw them some thanks.

To Install:

Upon reboot, you will be asked if you want to "disable recovery flash", always answer "NO". Don't worry, this will not over-write your recovery, it is just part of the root process.

FAQ
Q: I took the update, can I install this?
A: Sorry, your bootloader is now locked and currently there is no method for installing custom roms.
Q: If I install this can I go back to any other rom?
A: Yes. This is just a custom rom like any other rom that you have flashed. It does not have the ability to lock your bootloader because none of that GARBAGE is included.
Q: Will this update me to the newest modem?
A: No, the modem is not included though it is highly recommended that you update to the ML1 modem (flash modem only, no other firmware).
Q: I know that I'm still on the MF1 bootloader but I flashed this and now I've got a big yellow triangle and it says something about unauthorized software. What happened?
A: You forgot to unlock your bootloader. Now you need to Odin back to MF1 and then unlock it with the Casual Tool.
Q: Will the Xposed framework mods work on this rom?
A: Several people have been using them with varying results. Load up a few and let us know how they work!
Q: Will google wallet work on this rom?
A: Yes. See here for instructions.
Q: Why does my flash go off when I receive a call?
A: It's a glitch in the update. See here.
Q: Why is my battery draining so fast?
A: Here's a couple of reasons that have been discovered here and here.
Q: Why am I showing to be connected to 4G and Wifi at the same time?
A: Either use TiBu and freeze "Caller Name ID 1.14.10" or your favorite root explorer and delete Canid.apk.

First boot will ask about fixing recovery. Subsequent reboots will ask to fix root. Always "just say no"....lol.

**** Almost all apps have been moved to /data/app - which means you can uninstall them, not just turn them off.
Replacements:
Replaced stock launcher with Holo Launcher HD
Chrome replaced with Firefox
Messages replaced with Handcent
Includes:
AdFree (Root)
Titanium Backup
I DO NOT WARRANTY THIS ROM IN ANY WAY.
INSTALL AT YOUR OWN RISK. DONT HATE ME IF IT DESTROYS YOUR DEVICE.
I've been running it on my device for the day and it's doing great!

Use safestrap
Any ROM slot should be fine. I know it's not possible currently in safestrap to make a smaller system partition, but really only 2GB is needed for system.
I'd highly recommend a clean slot -- for some reason while testing safestrap wouldn't fully wipe the data partition.
PLEASE NOTE:
After initial boot, you will be sent through the Setup Wizard, as usual.
Immediately following completion of first boot, your phone will "go crazy" for a few seconds. The select wallpaper window will open (dont do anything), then the screen will go blank for a second.
* Setup Wizard may force close. DONT PANIC!! Everything i still working right. Just click OK.
I have set up a One-Time Init script to install the WiFi Hotspot toggle into notification panel, change the default lockscreen/homescreen backgrounds, enable USB Debugging, and to set up the initial Holo Launcher icon layout.

so far, all i have to say is WOW. This ROM is amazing. so far without even installing govtuner, i havent had any lag at all. customization is amazing! so far after the initial install, battery life is great too!

The option is in aroma I recommend a full wipe

I flashed last night and sat there waiting for 10 min. (Your boot img is pretty sweet ; the 3rd selection on aroma)
Did not do anything but set my phone overnight on the charger even rebooted after the phone finished downloading my apps
This morning says system ui has failed and cannot even put my code in to unlock
I'm resetting everything once more hopefully to fix the issue
edits do not set in to system. some items have changed color and some things just don't work i'm going to wait but this idea is pretty awesome but i'll try again in a couple of updates
haven't finished download my 54 apps but from 100% to 50% and still have a lot of apps to download maybe its just my phone
keep up the good work though this seems like my next go to rom
Does this have all the fixes to make the phone cool and fast baked in?

It has a bunch of customizations and themed icons to match based on this rom but you have all these options with his app and in aroma when first starting up your phone.

Go to control app give it SuperSU permission then restart systemui and the setting text will be black or in conditions app change the color to whatever you like...

Hi guys. I have a Sprint S7 and flashed this rom using FlashFire. I chose the Sprint variant in Aroma. When it rebooted, I was stuck on the Galaxy S7 splashscreen. It did not advance at all after I waited for awhile. Is there something I did wrong? Or does this rom as of now only work with the Verizon variant? Thanks!

OP said Verizon was only one 100% other carriers are a work in progress, sorry.
