Dial *#*#4636#*#* to display information about phone.
Looks like AT&T sim from my Nexus 5X might get me on WiFi calling. Can anyone confirm?
Sent from my PH-1 using Tapatalk

My setup looks the same (sim previously in a pixel) but I think it's lying to us. My phone still drops to 3G during calls.

I wonder if the IMEI on your AT&T account was changed to a device that supports wifi calling/advanced LTE if they would both work?

The SIM in Essential is the LG Nexus 5X IEMI for sure

I'm showing the same with a sim from an S7 Edge. However, WiFi calling doesn't seem to be working. On my S7 I was able to make WiFi calls with my cellular antenna turned off, I can't do the same with my PH-1.

On Sprint, I needed to get a new SIM as my Nexus 6P SIM didn't work, nor did my U11 but that might be due to other reasons. (It sorta worked, but didn't like it).
Went to a store that had them in stock, threw it in, and Boom! LTE+ and crystal clear phone calls. (The earpiece really is good and loud, almost too loud).
I couldn't care less for WiFi Calling since my WiFi is much worse than Sprint LTE... Surprise surprise.

No service on voice on sprint network
My phone connected fine for four days to voice and data now all I have is data no voice it says voice out of service I can't make or receive calls at all only data I when to the Sprint store today and was there for 2hrs and still no voice only data this phone is 700 bucks and all I have is data smh essential support is no help I been begging for a full refund for 6 days now

My HTC 10 sim wouldn't work either. Sprint locks certain Sims to certain phone groups. Anyone with an unlocked ph1 on Sprint will most likely have to go get a new Sim and will most likely have to factory reset phone after activation to get it all working.

Call local sprint stores or sprint support themselves and get a new Sim. It's not the phone's fault as mine did this when I used the sim from my U11 which did exactly the same thing you're describing.

They sent me a brand new SIM card for the phone also I was at the sprint tech store where they tried another sim also so yes it is the phone

Did you try a factory reset after the new SIM?

Took a shot at having ATT try provisioning with Essential IMEI instead of LG Nexus 5X. Network not recognizing PH-1 IMEI. It only provisions UMTS, no LTE. No data network. On chat support for hours.
Update:
As reported on forums, AT&T does not yet recognize this phone's IMEI, and when force registering to network, and reading the serial number, it forces UMTS with no data service. Had to pull SIM back in Nexus 5X to reregister and provision LTE with Nexus IMEI. Returned SIM to PH-1 and now have my data back, as well the s#!+ cell signal I had since day 1.

Why do people even bother provisioning with AT&T. Everytime I interact with them, they have managed to make my problem worse.
If you have a properly provisioned LTE sim from a prior phone, just pop it into the essential and do not call ATT.

APN Business.....stuck...return label in hand.
Got my PH1 yesterday and really do like it. Really struggling with APN settings. I have Cellcom (Wisconsin based using Verizon Network), I put in my sim and change network type to global(I’ve tried most of the other options) I can go into Edit Access Point and modify the majority of the info except APN Type...needing to add mms to the “default, dun, supl, mms” or course that is grayed out. Which results in texts going thru but mms photos and group messages sit and spin until erroring out. Any ideas?

No option to add a new apn. Can only reset to default.

There a little plus button on the top of the APN screen. You can definitely add one.

No, you definitely can't. Not if your phone isn't working completely on Verizon like mine also. No plus sign, and about half the APN settings are not changeable. I was able to change one setting and got mms working.

I know this is an old post but if you have a Verizon sim, even if not active, you should be able to add a new apn. Then after saving pop your cellcom sim in.

Using 8.1 Official and on Verizon. I notice APN bearer as a double comma after HSPAR. I have seen some parsing software consider a double comma as an end of string null. I wonder if the last two entries are being seen by the phone? HSDPA and HSUPA

D6603 on AT&T Not Receiving Calls/Texts (Intermittent)

I have seen similar posts of this issue with the Z3 and Z3C, but I wanted to post my experiences and see if anyone that has this issue has been able to resolve it.
I have an unlocked D6603 that I purchased directly from Sony US. When I received it, I got a new LTE SIM from AT&T, but did not give them the IMEI from the Z3. I activated the SIM and still have my old phone's IMEI listed as the device (LG G3). I inserted the SIM card, downloaded the APN settings, rebooted the phone, and everything was working great.
When I got home from work the next day, my wife said that she had called and sent me text messages that I did not receive. I rebooted the phone and all of her texts (as well as texts from other people) came through. This happens almost every day, and sometimes multiple times in one day. I either have to reboot the phone or change the network settings from LTE to WCDMA for the texts to come through.
One thing just noticed while making an incoming call.. My Z3 has full LTE signal, but when the call is coming in, it immediately switches to HSPA, and when the call is disconnected, it immediately switches back to LTE. Not sure if that's normal behavior or not, but figured I would include it in this post.
Same issues with AT&T. Intermittent calls and texts. It's thanks to AT&T's archaic verification system. Because you don't have a bloated AT&T issued device, you need to keep your old (AT&T issued device) IMEI to be able to get LTE signal for data. If you give them your current Z3 IMEI, you will always receive your texts and calls on time but you will not be able to get LTE because your IMEI is not registered in their database. It's a classic case of a carrier advertising "bring your own devices to our network but we won't load your IMEI so you can access the services you actually pay for", pathetic. T-mobile and Verizon actually offer the device but AT&T won't. Also, AT&T does not offer voice over LTE so your calls will always be 3G (H or H+) when connected and when disconnected your phone will go back to LTE for data. You have two choices with the extortion king, AT&T. Update IMEI and get all calls and texts in a timely matter while forfeiting LTE or leaving your old IMEI and get LTE but miss calls and texts. Ridiculous.
My situation is exactly like the op except i dont miss calls and recieve all my text, so something must not be right, have u tried flashing a differnt ftf?
Multiple, doesn't change anything.
Has anyone tried to use a Z3 IMEI in the last month? I know that when it first came out, it was an unrecognized device for purposes of LTE, but at some point that will change. For example, I am using a Z2's IMEI right now, and that certainly is not an AT&T device.

I changed the IMEI on my AT&T account to match my Z3's IMEI, since I would prefer to receive all of my calls and texts over having LTE. After making the change and rebooting my Z3, I still had an LTE connection and I did not experience the missed calls/texts for a few days. Yesterday, I did not receive any texts or calls so I rebooted the Z3 and texts started coming through. So it appears that using the Z3's IMEI is still preventing calls and texts from arriving.

After adding the Z3's IMEI, it is still showing as an unknown device with AT&T, yet it does get an LTE connection.

I just picked up a Z3 straight from a Sony store last week, stopped by an AT&T store first to get a nano sim which they handed me with no question asked but I didn't activate right away as I still had my ion on....
Once back home inserted the nano sim in the Z3 called AT&T to activate the sim, they sent me a text to verify my account and the settings were downloaded to the phone, they asked me if it was a new phone, just told them no just a new sim in my old phone...right away I noticed that I didn't have LTE at all, so went into the APN setting which were a bit different that what I had in the xperia ion, deleted the APN that was downloaded by AT&T to my phone and entered the ion settings manually into the Z3 and right away LTE was back....not a single problem receiving calls/texts and LTE on full time since then...
APN settings (the difference is in the name of the APN from what was downloaded by AT&T if I recall correctly)

The same issue is affecting me too. I also have the D6603 on AT&T network. Don't bother asking AT&T for help, they will say nothing is wrong w/ their network (which I think is technically correct). This sucks because I was motivated by their bring your own device promotion only to be disappointed that they can't help resolve this issue.
Anyway, turning LTE off made the calls and texts more timely for me. So the easy workaround is to add the LTE toggle quick setting button so you don't need to click a few places to get into settings > more... > mobile network setting > network mode > to turn off LTE. This should default you to WCDMA/GSM when LTE is off by the way. I think the speed is somewhere between 3G and definitely not as fast as LTE, but not unbearable either.
This is still a pain in the butt given that we freaking PAY for LTE, but it's a simple work around (for now at least...)

I did try your APN settings, which seemed to work at first, but the issue came back after a day or two.
I contacted Sony about it and they are placing the blame on AT&T. They also had me do a software repair using the Sony PC Companion software. I'll have to test it for a day or two to see if I continue to have problems or not.

still receiving calls and texts just fine but can't answer anymore as I have a different problem now...the phone took a dive from a cliff (literally)
First time I drop and break a phone but also first that I buy insurance, took the" protection plus" when I was at the Sony store, kinda hesitated at first but went for it finally, glad I did now, getting a new one mailed and waiting for it to arrive...
My issue was fixed
I had the same problem for the longest time with all official roms and Slipsystem's. I installed the unofficial CM 12 and the problem disappeared. It is something in the official stuff that messes with it.
I'm on att and don't have this issue at all. Store used a s5 imei when i switched
I have to disagree with some of the comments above. I'm on a D6603 in Texas purchased from the Sony online store several months ago. Had to go to a store to get the new sim card anyway and the salesman registered the phone using the IMEI off the box. The Z3 was added as a new phone on the account (I wanted to take my time moving stuff plus I intended to port my old number to Google Voice anyway). I did the setting option to download the APN myself a few minutes later. The Z3 shows as unknown model on ATT online but LTE data works fine and I've had no problems receiving/making calls or messages. So, using the z3's real IMEI is NOT the problem. Perhaps the problem is some setting that doesn't get reset properly when switching an existing phone whereas adding it as a new line avoided that?
@svnyster @augie7107 @pbsteebs @nirvanayoda have you found a solution to this problem?
here's my experience.
1. I have a straight talk sim card (it uses ATT network) and I experience the same problem.
2. My Xperia Z3 D6603 has LTE coverage, but after a while - even with signal at 2/3 bars - it doesn't receive calls or texts until I restart it, switch airplane mode on/off, or toggle LTE/3G.
3. I know for sure this is not related to the rom I'm using: the phone was in stock conditions (kitkat 4.4), then I rooted and installed a debloated stock lollipop rom... still the same problem.
4. I also know that this is not a sim card issue: we have 2 Xperia Z3 phone (one is my wife's). If I swap my sim card in her phone I have no problem, and call and sms get through. So only one of our Z3's is affected by this problem.
5. Finally, the only way I found to work around this was to switch to WCDMA (preferred)/GSM (instead of LTE preferred/WCDMA/GSM). In this case i receive all calls and sms but I have to give up LTE.....
Any thoughts?
Thanks a lot for your help!

I actually ended up switching devices, because I was unable to do my daily work without consistent LTE, and I got tired to switching between LTE and WCDMA.
Everything I read from AT&T shows that the LTE bands they use are 2, 4, 5, and 17, which the D6603 has all of those bands. However, my new device (Samsung Galaxy Note 4) also includes LTE Band 12, which the D6603 does not support. I know that Band 12 is used by T-Mobile, but if AT&T is using this band in certain areas, that could possibly be part of the explanation of why we're having this issue.
Thanks @svnyster!
I also don't think that switching between LTE and WCDMA is acceptable.
But what confuses me is that we have 2 Z3s and only one of them has this problem...
Any idea if unlocking all bands as suggested here would help?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/cro...ad-progress-please-leave-im-updating-t2871269
Thanks again.
Pretty sure it has something to do with how AT&T recognizes your IMEI. Check your account and see what icon shows for both devices. If they are different, that's the culprit. I can't get calls and messages with LTE enabled on my Z3. Fine with 3G. My solution was to leave LTE off until I needed it to stream outside of Wi-Fi. AT&T recognizes my IMEI as a flip phone. I have a HTC M9 as well, unbranded edition, and AT&T recognizes the IMEI as a M9 and calls and messages come through immediately even though LTE is switched on.
i've resorted to leaving LTE off and using the H+, which someone explained is sort of like 3.5G but not quite 4G. At times I'll turn LTE on when I want to watch a video and am unable to connect to wi-fi. Sometimes I'll forget to turn LTE off, and find out later friends were trying to reach me but couldn't. As a result, for me, leaving it off is better (so I can be reached for clients or emergencies).
Still, I realize this is unacceptable, but AT&T does not support this phone (or sell it), so at the end of the day, it's my problem for wanting this phone in the first place. Don't get me wrong, I still like it a lot, but this issue and others are becoming a headache that Sony and AT&T could've gotten right from the get go.
Also, I did upgrade the Z3 to Lollipop. I've noticed the battery draining a bit quicker. Instead of having ~50% by end of day, I'm not at 25% levels. Not quite dead, but I still feel the urge to charge mid day when before I didn't have that urge.
Still, I like being able to move (some of) my apps now to the SD card, freeing up the barely 16 GBs on the phone.

From what I've heard in other threads, I think that you have to call your carrier so they can unlock the phone. Then you will be able to use LTE, but since its the exynos it will show it as 4G, its the same thing.

My bad, I thought it was the exynos. Maybe that will help. https://www.cricketwireless.com/sup...ice-byod/customer/bring-your-own-android.html
Also you need to make sure that your phone has all the bands Cricket uses for LTE in your area. http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/SM-G930TZKATMB
With this code you can change bands priority ##3282# but you will need the MLS code.
I'm not much of a help as I'm from Europe and dont really know about carrier phones. Seems like T-Mobile, for example, has unlocked only the bands it uses and not all the bands so you can't go to another carrier easily.
I have the T-Mobile Galaxy S7 and use it on AT&T, so you'll have no problems. Dial *#2263# and hit select all bands then hit apply band configuration. Exit and you should have LTE working. To confirm dial *#0011# and see what LTE band you're connected to.

Not Getting 4G/LTE on AT&T in the US

So I finally ran Speed Test at several locations on mobile and am only getting 2-3 mb download and 1-2 upload. I have never seen a 4G or LTE symbol next to the signal bars either, it's typically either H or H+. I am on the international model MHA-L29 in the USA, and I know that the locations I've tested my phone at have LTE for AT&T. I activated the phone 2-3 days ago. Is there something I need to do in my settings? Is there anything to check?

Let us know when you fix it ,good luck.
So my forum searching has led me to this path: Buy a cheap 4G AT&T GoPhone ($30), and call AT&T to update my IMEI with the IMEI of the new phone and tell them to activate LTE. Supposedly that worked on AT&T when the original OnePlus came out in the US and people were having the same issue I am having.
Just another update in case anyone is following:
I was able to get though the idiot AT&T prepaid rep and to a tech support guy last night. He said he is going to have them manually enter my IMEI into "the database" and see if that helps get me LTE. My phone is showing as "unknown device" to them right now, so he said check back in a week-ish and see if it's changed from "unknown" to "Huawei Mate 9", which will indicate that my IMEI is in the database. If so, then I check my speeds again. The tech support guy also confirmed that the idea of buying a $30 prepaid AT&T LTE phone and having them update the IMEI with the one from that phone would do the same thing. Anyway, now we wait a week....

Jesus, you guys have it bad with your carriers in the US. Phone not working on LTE out of the box is insane.

It's just because it's an international phone and not officially available on a US carrier (yet). Still sucks though. Supposedly if I switched to T-Mobile it would get LTE out-of-the-box, which I may do if this doesn't work. Lucky I'm on prepaid so switching shouldn't be an issue if I need to.

I'd pretty much guarantee that I'd have LTE on my service provider as long as the correct bands are supported. So it seems like AT&T needs to vet every device for some reason.

Yeah, they (AT&T) do have a "database" for devices, and some international devices are "unknown" unless they're specifically entered. And not just the general device, Huawei Mate 9, I'm talking about specific IMEIs.

Yup, that sounds pretty bad to me. You're paying them for service. They shouldn't care that it's an AT&T or unlocked device. They get paid either way although it kinda sounds like they want to push you toward buying devices through AT&T by making you jump through hoops to discourage you.

I guarantee you that every provider in the US wants you to buy phones through them. It is still capitalism over here There is definitely more bullsh*t to deal with if you bring your own device and/or do prepaid, including crappier customer service, but the trade-off is that it's cheaper and you can switch providers anytime.
Odd, I have a L29 on ATT and LTE works just fine. Put my SIM in and no problems whatsoever.

Weird. How do you know? Do you see an "LTE" symbol in the bar, or "4G"? When you run Speed Test, what are you're DL and UL speeds? Where in the US are you located? Last question (for now), were you already on AT&T with an LTE-equipped phone prior to the Mate 9, and if so, did you just pop in the SIM (did you verbally give AT&T the IMEI of your Mate 9)?

Hey @DKM119, were you already on T-Mo with a LTE-equipped phone prior to switching to the Mate 9? If so, did you give them the IMEI of your Mate 9, or did you just pop the SIM out of the old phone and into the Mate 9? Just trying to prepare in case I do switch to T-Mo.
International unlocked phones refer to LTE as 4G therefore they show 4G icon. when you see 4G on an international phone it means you have lte. quick clarification

Haven't used speedtest yet - but using LTE Discovery, I'm on Band 5 in Atlanta
I've been using a SIM from an ATT-LTE phone - but I haven't bought a branded phone in years. I just popped the sim in and it configured itself. No APN input needed

Galaxy S8+ on Xfinity Mobile

OK. Like the title says. I have two Galaxy S8+ unlocked from Samsung. They are the U1 models. I ordered two LG X Power phones from Xfinity with the intention of using the SIM cards in the S8. I had to add the APN settings from the LG phones to get data working. The problem I have now is that I can receive text messages but I can't send them. Also when I go under call settings/more settings I get a failed to read data (Network or SIM card error. The S8 had extra APN settings that the LG didn't have so I'm not 100% sure that it is right. Anyone have an unlocked S8+ on Xfinity Mobile? Thanks in advance for any info.
OK. So I got text to work now. I had to do the carrier fw flash. Now I have another problem. Everything looks like its there as far a Xfinity APN, CSC, etc. Just having problems with 4G now. It wants to stay in 3G and the only way I can get it on LTE is to change from Global to LTE/GSM. It connects to LTE but then I can't make phone calls because there is no CDMA network. It's suppose to be VoLTE but for some reason that's not happening. Starting to wish I had just purchased the phones for Xfinity.

So...from what I gather from tech support at Xfinity, you can't just take a SIM from the LG X Power and install it in a Galaxy S8+ even if everything has been flashed. The APN settings appear correct comparing to what was on the X Power. All of the Xfinity software is there from the flash. It SHOULD be just like a Xfinity branded Galaxy S8+. I can't find any dialer codes that work to see what bands are enabled and priorities. Tech support said this would never work. He said you couldn't buy a used GS8 from someone and activate it. He said it becomes a third party BYOD at that point. So these Xfinity GS8+ phones sold on eBay to work with Xfinity probably won't get activated. I hear of people taking the SIM cards from the cheap iPhone SE and installing in them in iPhone 7s. I don't understand what the difference is.

Uninstalled an Xfinity sim card on a Verizon G6 and it worked fine. I now have a S8+ I got from Xfinity but I also have a S8 I got from Verizon at home. I'll try it tonight and see what happens.

I don't see why it won't work. I bought the lg x power too, got it to work with an old Nexus 6p, my wife's iPhone 6s+ from Verizon, and currently with a mi note 2. The APN settings need to be right, and Volte needs to be turned off. I know the phones support it, and so does Xfinity mobile, but that might just be reserved for the phones bought through them.
Also, for texting issues, try different texting apps. I had issues with Google messages, but tried textra, and things worked great, including mms.

4G started working on it's own for both phones. Looks like there was a PRL update that corrected it. I exchanged the LG X Power for the X Charge because they are support VoLTE. Got the phones and had a mod on Reddit to get the account provisioned for VoLTE and everything started working! A tier 2 tech called to tell me they had enabled it. I asked about my wife's phone(she was using an S8+) and he said it had showed up as a Samsung device. Told him I had already installed the SIM card back in the LG X Charge and when he looked again he confirmed it. Said he would get with tier 3 and call me back. About 45 min later VoLTE was working on her X Charge. Installed the SIM back in her S8+ and everything is working properly.
I guess I jumped the gun on this anyway. I got the unlocked S8+ because Xfinity didn't offer insurance and I wasn't sure they were. There were complaints of Samsung not offering there insurance on the Xfinity phones. Anyway, now Xfinity offers insurance and they have $200 off the S8+! I only paid ~$640 for the unlocked versions. Not a big deal but I was trying to get this done before July 31 because they said unlimited was going to $65(wife uses a lot of data).

I'd love to know as well cause I still can't send any text messages, I can receive texts, use data, and call though. I flashed the G955U1 firmware (USC) version and its much faster but I'd love to be able to use the U1 firmware but be able to text.

Same here, if anyone can provide some help on being able to fully utilize the unlocked Samsung S8 version with Xfinity sim it will be great. Phone calls work, and can receive texts but no mms,
Same problem for me with my unlocked S8 from Best Buy. Everything works except sending texts. I chatted with Samsung support and had already tried everything they suggested . . . factory reset, safe mode, different text app, etc. Nothing worked. They wouldn't touch the APN settings but I tried the same settings my LG X Charge from Xfinity has. Still nothing. I used this phone for three weeks on AT&T before switching to Xfinity and texting worked fine. So I know the phone is fine.
The only difference in the Xfinity APN settings on the LG phone is that the LG phone has a three digit username and password that is blanked out. I don't know if this makes any difference or if anybody has seen similar APN settings for Xfinity. This is so frustrating that I can't use my $700 phone with Xfinity.
did unlock xfinity s8 + when i insert t -mobile sim card i got 4g but getting this message
invalid sim card detected insert an xfinity mobile sim ........i did unlock the phone with code when i dial *#7465625#
everything off even netwok
I flashed Canadian firmware. Then I flashed the xfinity firmware, with the xfinity csc and I get Volte, and texting works. I originally had tmobile, flashed the us unlocked firmware and then I switched to xfinity mobile and I was having same issue as you guys until I changed firmware.

Thanks, but I've tried many APN settings including these. Still no texts working. Just ridiculous. I'd really rather not flash my S8 multiple times in order to just get texting to work.

ATT suspending Huawei phones?

I've just sold my Mate 20X, and I put my ATT sim card in it one last time to make sure everything was fine. When I did so, my ATT service was suspended. I had to get them to re-enable my sim card. Talking to ATT, they said it's because they don't support Huawei phones anymore. I used this phone on ATT as my primary phone a year ago and never had any problems. Did I just miss this?
I'm slightly worried it's because I gave out my IMEI to a prospective buyer, but the ATT rep said there was no problem with it being blacklisted, just that they don't allow Huawei phones on the system anymore. I'm very suspicious of this, so I thought I'd check here.
I'm still using AT&T and T-Mobile on my AL00 without issues

Happened to me after testing my sim card in a S20 FE. When I put it back on my Mate 20 X the service got disconnected. Called AT&T they say because I need to update to a 4G phone. I told them that my Mate is 4G and they reactivated without issues. The rep that attended me didn't told me that Huawei was not being accepted anymore from AT&T, just that needed to make sure it supports 4G.
I did try it out with Tmobile later and had no problems, and the buyer hasn't reported any issues, so it sounds like just bad information. Thanks for the info!

kin USa idiots at ATT .. pss message to them from me pls !
I got a text message today from AT&T saying "we're sending you a phone. if you don't activate it, we will auto activate it after 30 days and your phone you're using now will only be able to call 911"
This is a huge bummer.
I only got that they are retiring 3G, but nothing that says they are suspending supporting The phone as they have NEVER supported the phone, so thats a crock of crap. The only thing they can do is turn off the 3g band and if your phone doesnt use 4G then your SOL. Mate 20X uses 4G LTE so they cant touch me and if they do they have alot more to answer for.
is Tmobile still going to keep supporting it?
At least from a test

That is what I thought BUT I think I found the issue. If you download an app that check the band your phone is using, you will see that for CALLS the 20x with an ATT sim card, will drop to a 3G band not LTE!
Now, if I try a TMobile sim card and make a call, the phone still shows using LTE band so looks like people with TMobile will be able to keep the phone just fine.
I recently experienced the same thing on my Huawei Mate 20x evr-l29. Call AT&t and they unlocked the suspended account and explain to me my phone is registering as a 3G device. I asked them to look at my network history and they clearly see it's using the 4G LTE network without issues. The representative at tech support said they were noting my account to escalate a ticket to not shut off my device come February. She assure me it will continue to work but we will wait and see.
So I was told that, my wife's Mate 20 x had to activate the new sim card because 3G was tied to the previous sim. Was not the case and they suspended the phone number once I activate the new sim (they also sent a refurbished S9 with the sim). I had to call customer service and escalate for them to reactivate the sim card. I'm now waiting to call their "3G Sunset Department" to try to put my phone on a white list (1-800-880-8581). Seems they are only open during business hours so have to call back then. This has not been a good experience.
So I had a fiasco with AT&T. Props to the services techs that had to deal with me in store and over the phone. They kept their cool and customer service up there. I've just been trying to keep my cool over these two days spending alot of time going between different people and then also swapping to another sim being told that would fix it.
Mate 20X is no longer supported by AT&T. In the case of new customers. Basically they have black listed the model and IMEI numbers of these phones. So when a sim card is inserted the phone line associated with it will be suspended.
To get around this you have to call customer support to have them activate the SIM card so that it will work. Phone calls and Data will work after that.
For my wife's phone I used to have unanswered calls and busy get forwarded to her google voice. With the problem above with the IMEI number being technically blacklisted I was not able to set up google voice again. Took me a couple of calls and an escalation to an advanced tech to have them set up call forwarding from their side. After that the phone works as before for now until they shut off 3G data in February.
Educational moment: After I did some searching online and also a good talk with that advanced tech I found out the reason that this phone is identified as 3G. I blame AT&T for the lack of educational material being sent out and the training of their staff on the phone.
Good article explanation: https://www.androidauthority.com/volte-att-t-mobile-1148654/
The Mate 20X is a 3G voice phone. Even though it is a 4G LTE capable phone it is not a VoLTE/HD Voice phone. Hence the reason why this phone was identified as a 3G device. So basically when the cutoff date comes in February, the phone will not be able to make phone calls or receive texts. Technically it should still be capable of using the 4G data but take this with a grain of salt because they basically blacklisted the IMEI/Model of this phone. So they could just force these to not work anymore.
Here's a list from AT&T that will still work after the change to 3G: https://www.att.com/idpassets/images/support/wireless/Devices-Working-on-ATT-Network.pdf
This is their current compatibility list for unlocked phones: https://www.att.com/idpassets/image...Capabilities-Unlocked-Devices-ATT-Network.pdf
Meh, actions have consequences...

FYI (and I know this is really a late reply), this is incorrect if you were lucky enough to have unlocked the bootloader on your Mate 20 X (EVR-L29) phone (or if you can do so if the opportunity ever arises again in the future).
Thanks to someone else on this forum (posting about a different huawei phone, I've lost the original poster), I've discovered that it IS in fact possible to enable VoLTE on AT&T (ATT) if your phone is rooted.
Before making these changes attempts to make or receive calls will fail even though data and texts will be working and there is a 4g signal symbol.... and going into settings -> wireless & networks -> mobile network will not have the necessary "VoLTE calls" option to turn VoLTE on.
Simple way to enable VoLTE on rooted Mate 20 X on AT&T:
adb shell
su
mount -o rw,remount /
echo "ro.config.hw_volte_on=true" >> /system/build.prop
echo "ro.config.hw_volte_dyn=false" >> /system/build.prop
mount -o ro,remount /
Restart your phone.
The "VoLTE calls" option will now show up, and can be turned on... after which phone calls will again work on the Mate 20 X on AT&T.
I hope this helps someone like it helped me to figure out, even though I know unlocked bootloaders are rare on this phone.
I also couldn't find another phone this size that would work on AT&T (aside from fold ones that I don't want) so really happy that this ended up working.
