No AT&T service now (roaming)

We have the root, great!
But I'm in Japan......no at&t service, no update check, no go!!!! I have to stay here for another month and the exploit may be fixed when I get back....
Is there any other way? Thanks!

Nope not at this time.

Someone else got it to work in china by removing their sim card. Unfortunately I can't find the exact post, as the root thread in the dev section is fairly long. Worth a try though!

That was probably me, and its Taiwan, not China, and it was in the General thread. Don't let my gf hear you confuse Taiwan with China.
Anyway, yes, it doesn't work if the phone knows you're on another, non-at&t network. Pop out the sim and reboot, so you're on no network at all. Get on wifi and use the update trick through there.
It worked for me so it will probably work for you too. If it doesn't, do the trick where you set your clock ahead 2 days, reboot, and try again. Let me know if you are able to get it to work.

By the way. Your subject line "No AT&T Service Now" was really scary, and probably a bad idea. I was sure you were going to say that you had lost at&t cell service because of one of the hacks or mods, and I was afraid it might happen to me too! You should say something like "roaming off of at&t service", for my peace of mind.

Glad to be of service! I lived in Japan for a couple years, a while back. Fun country. I think it used to be that you could roam a US phone everywhere _but_ Japan, but it sounds like they finally worked that issue out.

Both Japan and South Korea use the 2100 MHz band for voice and data, which is different from much of the world (which often use 900 and 1800). More and more phones are compatible with 2100 MHz these days (since its used for 3G in Europe and many other places), but you still have to be careful to check for this when buying a device, if you intend to use it for travel to Japan and S. Korea.

Getting Cell Service with NO SIM! And some other guys number ! Help

I just bought a phone the guy who made no mention of the fact that it was rooted when I bought it. What is worse is he mentioned that his GF worked for Verizon, which did not seem to mean much at the time. Knowing that here is what i'm dealing with.
I was in a rush when I checked out the phone as I had to meet another person to pick one up for my wife as well. It's the sch-i575 in white 16gb. After having a minute to look at the phone it turns out he had Paranoid Android flashed and the phone was rooted. CRAP! Not what I was looking for and he was not upfront about it. The incredibly strange thing was that with NO SIMCARD the phone was getting 3g signal! I spent all night trying to unroot \ undo what he did. I managed to use ODIN to get back to the stock rom although I think it's still a rooted one since I still have the super user app. I got a sim card from verizon but since it was rooted I did not bring the phone in and when I tried to activate later it would not activate. My wife's by the way is working flawless and when I put my sim in her phone it works fine as well. I had to put the sim in my wife's phone and it activated there. Here is the crazy thing, with or with out a simcard the phone makes calls and has 3g internet only but when I make a call it uses HIS NUMBER!! I'm not sure what the hell to do, what could have he done? Any ideas? Please all help is appreciated! I did not think this was even possible for the phone to function w/o a sim. I'm worried about taking it in to Verizon because of the funkiness. Ty again for any insight...

It sounds like you didnt flash the proper stock image. I would start with that and report back.

I thought the I575 was an old slide phone. So A. your in the wrong section of the forum since this is Verizon's S3 or B. you mentioned the wrong device number? I saw phones before working and running on networks without sim-cards but that was years ago. If it is an S3, you sure it's a Verizon device? Also since you see 3g....can you browse around in the browser or make a phone call?

Yes, it's a galaxy s3 16gb in white. It looks like currently I was using the tar66 using ODIN. I'm reverting back to the bone stock one now. As far as the models go isn't the SCH-I575 the Verizon version of the S3?
I'm waiting on the stock unrooted rom to take through ODIN and will report back. Thank you for taking the time to try and help.
Ohh, yes the internet works and when I make phone calls with or with out my sim in it makes calls successfully but the other guys number shows up. What the heck did this guy do to the phone!

You are obviously absolutley correct. I'm frantically trying to figure this out. I have flashed the stock rom and don't have super user anymore. The problem persists with the guys number.
Could he have flashed a custom kernel and modem or does reverting back using the stock rom cover all that ?

The one i linked covers all that and completely erases all data on the phone. Did you insert your sim after the stock flash?

I just double checked and I had the I535VRLAG1 version, yours is the I535VRALF2 in the link you posted trying this now. The crazy thing is that it even says that the sim is activated with MY number! but the calls are still comming from him. I even tried wiping the device and clearing the cache. I also tried to JUST flash the modem with VRLG1.modem.tar.md5 and nothing :\. Waiting on the file from your link to download and will try that.
Is it possible that this is being caused by something on Verizon's end? The phone ( with out the SIM ) is registered to him somehow? I know this is not normal but because his GF worked for Verizon could they have done something funky?

Yeah its definitely possible its from something she did to the phone but most likely nothing from Verizon's end. Does the IMEI number under status match the IMEI number under the battery?

Yes IMEI is the same in the OS as behind the battery.
The curious thing is that on the same screen in the OS where you find the IMEI there is also a field called Network and it says " Unknown"
It also has things like:
Eri v : 5
Mobile network type : EvDo-rev.a:8
The thing I keep coming back to is how is it possible for this phone to make calls\ have data with out a sim?
Starting to really think I got cheated

Cheated? Sounds like you have free Verizon service.

Just did and the same thing happened. I went to the Verizon store and the guy there had no idea and got me in touch with tech support from the store. They were dumbfounded and flat out said that what is happening is impossible. "It's impossible to make\receive phone calls with out a sim unless they are emergency" I harped on the fact that I am making phone calls as one of their other customers and that this is a big deal. In the end since I had the insurance and extended warranty they will ship me a new phone.

Rooted Verizon S7

Hey Guys and Gals,
I have a Rooted Verizon S7 and for some strange reason i cant send or receive text messages until after i call someone. I have tried restarting and that didnt work. When its doing it it will say waiting for signal for mobile network but yet i can get online and do anything else. once i call someone i will get all the texts that i have gotten all at once

It says Verizon s7 in your post.......Verizon s7's come unlocked for most GSM carriers. Sounds like it could possibly be a network problem, sim card problem, or maybe incorrect APN settings. Could actually be a lot of things really but thats what comes to mind first. If I were you I would start over. Flash Verizon or U firmware and go from there, the U firmware can be found in the ATT s7 section.

I could not get data to work at all with marshmallow but had no trouble calling and texting although it did show roaming with verizon but it's not an issue....
Upgraded to nougat and it would recognize verizon 4glte but verizon wouldn't let it connect to network so couldn't call or txt anymore...
Didn't root or anything fancy only had five days to play with it but now I'm willing to spend the extra for the regular 7 if i can still find one lol since how impressive the mini was....But if your not interested in updating to nougat and having call service everywhere pretty much it's a great phone indeed

Just passing present info on about this phone and what the average user could expect to have out of it while using verizon and to just let them know they will lose verizon calling and texting if they update to nougat and that they wouldn't have data with either update unless I missed a trick to try before I returned it...

No sir I think the nougat update has something in it to where it doesn't pick up Verizon's 1x maybe disabled it I believe it's something in the update to nougat cause calls and texts worked before just showed roaming so there's gotta be a magic trick somewhere to work again...as far as data without verizon accepting the device not so sure of a fix without maybe getting into something illegal such as changing imei maybe to a authorized one but even then I dunno if that would work nor pass prechecks ... but I returned phone to spend extra on the regular 7 soon as I have the money cause I really liked the mini so the regular 7 has to be even better ...

When I got my phone back in June, it was on MM. If I put my verizon sim and try to make a call, it would tell "unsupported device". Trying to activate online/at store yielded the same result. Moved to Tmobile cause of that and dont regret xD

Data connection constantly dropping

About 3 days ago my phone started dropping in connection massively as it goes from LTE to 3G to 1x. It has only gotten worse and no matter what I've tried I haven't found a fix. This started randomly when using a custom rom (resurrection remix) and it hasn't returned to normal since. Reverting back to stock hasn't fixed it either. Its gotten so bad to the point that every 30 minutes or so I lose service and have to wait around 5 to 10 minutes to get it back. Before I had even unlocked my bootloader this had never happened and I've owned this phone for almost a year. I haven't moved either and I doubt its the sim card.
My stock rom that I use is RETUS and is most recent
Model Number - XT1955-5
most fixes that I've seen on the forums haven't helped and the only other person I've seen with the same issue I have had to replace their phone.
EDIT: I've updated to a newer version stock rom that was uploaded 3 days ago, and still no fix. My IMEI isn't 0, and resetting any settings doesn't help. If I factory reset from the settings menu my phone won't startup so I reset through fastboot. I really doubt its on Verizon's end as my sister's phone, which is the same one I have, works perfectly fine. My only suspicion is that somehow custom roms broke it, but that doesn't make since to me at least.
EDIT 2: well after everything I've tried nothing has worked and i'm just going to deal with it. I could never truly find the reason as to why it isn't working, but I'm going to just blame hardware. I'm sad I couldn't fix this phone but it is what it is. At this point I've moved back to the custom rom I was using prior and happy.

I'll try it yet even though I use Verizon I didn't get my phone from them I got mine unlocked, but its worth a shot

well after about 30 minutes of waiting to see what would happen here are the results.
The phone mainly stayed on 3G and could never find LTE even when I forced it.
It would sometimes drop to 1x but other than that nothing has changed. For now I'm going back to the modem that came with this stock, as that one gave me LTE.
EDIT: after restarting my data and phone, LTE showed up! Going to be trying to use it. I'll know if it continues the way its been acting.

Well it was short lived about an hour after I edited that post sure enough it hit the bucket dropped to 3G lost service and after reboot lte wasn't working. Typing this with WiFi as it's the only consistent thing. Back to square one now.

Try ejecting the sim blow in side dry blow and clean contacts on sim card

after this still nothing has changed, I will note that restarting and powering off happens a lot quicker without the sim card, but with it it takes around 7 seconds compared to a normal 1 to 2. As of now its still the same issue of inconsistency.

In Georgia, but my area has very good coverage, What I've done now is decided to relock the bootloader. It sounds dumb but all of this has started after I unlocked it. My final thoughts on it is Verizon might just be throttling me hardcore and I've gone crazy. If I can't fix it then I'm going to just deal with it until I get a new one.

nothings worked, reason why i didnt respond for a while is that I tried some fixes without saying and still nothing. Decided to give up and deal with this trashy data.

It might be it but I haven't had the chance to test it. As of know i'm back on resurrection remix as I decided I couldn't fix it, but the only notable thing I've noticed is that whenever things get horrible with the connection it drops from "Verizon" to "31000" not sure if that is even relevant.
