OnePlus did themselves a disservice, by hyping this camera as much as they did. It's a fine camera, more or less (for this price point).

Does a fine job to me..

They just need better post-processing algorithms.

no problems at all over 200 photos taken since owning and Im very happy with the quality of the photos.... remember its a phone with a camera most pics will be shared to social media and forgotten about.

Not better than the oneplus 3. Take a look of my post here

Maybe if your thirteen years old yes. I would say... remember it's a phone with a camera that will replace point and shoot camera's and even a DSLR when going on a trip with family. Pictures won't be forgotten and should at least be on par with galaxy and pixel of last year.

I took this photo while I was in a car which was running.

Hi, Oneplus 5 owners
There are some reviews where they talk about poor and dificult focus when you use the zoom.
Is that real?

[Q] How good/bad is the Nexus 5 camera?

I'm just wondering, is it really good as some people say or is it just average? I didn't get a tracking number yet so I don't think I'll be able to test it myself for a while. Some shots you've taken recently would suffice, just to see the strengths of the camera.
The quality of the actual pictures are fine, but the real deal breaker is how slow it is. Even after achieving focus, there's always this 1-2 second delay after you hit the shutter button. It's terrible. It doesn't matter if the camera took the highest quality shots in RAW if it's too slow to capture anything you could consider a "moment."

On mine, an HDR+ shot acquires focus and snaps the picture in about 1 second. Regular shots take maybe half a second or less.

That's not bad, but not insanely fast. If pictures took only a second I wouldn't mind but if it is as bad as he says, then I might have to download Focal and see how that works.

I would agree with this experience. The camera app itself loads fairy quickly too: 4 seconds from touching the camera icon to having the photo snapped and saved to storage.

It's probably not compatible with Kit Kat yet. Are there reviewers having the same issues?
I actually think the camera is pretty good. About the same as a iPhone 5s. Definitely not great though. However, the app sucks. Right now I'm using Camera MX and it's better than the stock app. Mine is pretty fast BTW. Not a long time between shots.

Nah, not that I can tell. But there are plenty of free camera apps that will probably perform better than the stock.
I think the camera is very good considering the overall top of the line phone specs vs price.
The OIS works amazing, try it, you can really shake the phone around and the image stays perfectly still - really what a small low mass smartphone needs! As even just tapping the screen to take a photo causes blurred photos.
I also like how it uses the flash to help you pre-focus, something my Desire Z never did, even with JB.
HDR+ is also pretty amazing, I can't fault it yet in my limited use, the photos come out much more vibrant, very impressive for the phone's small size!
Now what is bad is the shutter lag, between taking photos and when pressing the shutter, even if pre-focused... Come on Google, please fix that in your next update .
Other phones take photos a lot faster.
god camera is amazing well down google

Better than the wifes iPhone5 is my rating. It's better is daylight, better is low light, better at HDR, and the photosphere is a game changer.

Macro is very good
This shot was just testing out closer photos - I think I could go even closer. HDR+ was off so these are just standard quick shots.
I have attached a photo which I guess will be higher res, and also put it on imgur for the guests viewing.
You can see tiny bits of specs of dust and paint on the rotor blade (rc model heli), very good quality. The blade is covered in oil btw...
http://imgur.com/fBNSRIl
The bokeh is not bad either!
Oh, and reviewing photos on the HD display is beautiful, you can easily see if they are sharp and the colours / clarity is spot on even in daylight.
few more on both regular and hdr +

top one is hdr +
and one thing why ppl complaining about slow focus mine is almost instant focus and camera shots.
Compared to the Galaxy Nexus camera, I think the camera of the Nexus 5 is an improvement. It performs way better under suboptimal lighting conditions, and it supports HDR which snaps really nice pics with good colors.

This is beyond expectation. Do you have an example of a pure bokeh, pure isn't what I mean, but like, a shot and then the background is completely bokeh.

Coming from the Samsung Galaxy S Duos, the camera of Oneplus Two has amazed me a lot. I compared it with Samsung Galaxy S5 & S6 and it stood out very well to S6,while it totally outclassed the S5.(This comparison was done at night) . The Oneplus Two captures real life colors and the details are awesome. The trees shots are sometimes kind of very green and like oil painting but it's great. Video may be improved a lot. OIS & LAF works very well. Overall, an outstanding camera but could be improved a lot better with software tweaks. Thanks.
I have both OnePlus one and OnePlus 2 . Both cameras have the same megapixels. From my observation, OnePlus 2 is a lot better. Not much grain in low light, more texture, and more saturation.
I think that opt stock camera adds too much sharpness to the pictures. Take a picture of something with straight lines and zoom in on the picture. The lines are over-sharp but that's just my opinion. If you don't zoom the pictures look great.
No need for so much sharpness, very small jpg file.
photos in outdoor are just amazing , like @Kirahvi mentions there was quite a bit of sharpness back then , now i think that has been dealth with .
Hdr mode completely sucks, once it works another time it don't. BUT, after turning on raw and taking photos in normal mode or manual it is just.. amazing. First time when I took selfie with main camera my jaw dropped when I saw all the details of the skin, it looks like taking glimpse through magnifying glass. First camera app that I can set iso 100 and it will handle shutter speed itself which is awesome. Camera itself gave me though that money was very well spent on that phone and decision of selling my camera and Nexus 5 in exchange was a great deal, it has even more that those two had to offer.

I don't think there's a difference when it comes to versions.
In fact this device camera is just ****ty because of Oneplus Software.
Theorically it just should be fine, but since OOS 3.x they just destroyed quality...
And it's just stupid to have manual control with stock camera...
Edit : My old Mi4 was a bit better.
Something weird with this device is that there are some artifacts on long exposure shots with specific ISO.
Just check this picture :
http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/929229IMG20170409005217.jpg
And hum still don't mention, OIS has to be disabled (by build.prop edition, as there is not setting to do so...) in oder to do long exposure shots. If you don't do so you get blurry pictures as OIS tried to compensate accelerometer background noise...

yes, i am surprised at the quality of the front camera. "pathetic" is the word i would use.

shame on you, samsung. it's amazing that with so many loyal customers you would cut corners on this.

Just switched from the G6. Now that was a ****ty front camera
S8 produces in auto mode the best combination of good light and low light shots. In good light, there is a bit over-sharpening going on but no so much to destroy the photo quality. The handling of exposure is very good , the detail also and the colors are rich. At low light shots , S8 is the king with clear improvement over the S7/S7 edge. Better detail, low noise levels, more accurate colors, better handling of light flares. My only complaint is that in the evening light, the S8 camera gives more light that is needed. If for example you take a shot of the sky at 20:00 it will appear as it was taken one hour earlier at 19:00. In general there is no phone out there that can beat S8 at the triple combination of design+display+camera in auto mode. I am always talking about the rear camera. I never use the front camera on my phones ( i hate the trend of selfies ).
Back camera produces nice colors but the quality, or sharpness/details level is downright bad.
Coming from Pixel is maybe putting the bar high but the rear camera here is just bad.

You can even try -0.3 depending on how much light there is, in sunlight even 0.3 is great and balances the very bright scenes, and gets you alot detail in overexposed areas.

This Camera App is better than S9+ Stock

If you want very nice and sharp photos than you have to install "Bacon Camera" for your Samsung. We hope that someone can do a mod like Google Pixel Quality.
What does bacon camera do that is better than stock? Stock app is good all around but low lighting, it tends to tint red
The photos are sharper and have less noise. The tint problem will be fixed with an update I think
The only reason Gcam is better than Samsung's is because Google uses machine learning and it's massive database for that, I don't think this camera has these at its disposal.
Edit: This app doesn't support camera2 API, meaning you actually have very little control of what the hardware can do and all changes are software edited.
You can also try Footej Camera
Samsung pro mode is better than most of the copy cat apps in the play store. The only thing that works better is the gcam mod for front facing selfie portraits because of the machine learning blur.
The stock app, and the gcam, are the only camera apps you need.
But gcam is Not Working at this moment for s9+

I don't know any app that give you this. But for me personally I tried yesterday some versions of the gcam mod. Only one version is working a little bit. But picture quality is amazing. I hope someone do a full working mod for our dual camera than you have a Google Pixel camera with Samsung hardware.

Gcam doesnt do low light from what I see. Stock does very well in low light
Is really google camera that good compared to stock samsung camera?
Low-light photo quality sorta depends on the situation. If taking photos outside in low lighting, if you can keep your hands PERFECTLY still, the results can look better than the Pixel 2, but if we're talking consistency, I'd choose the Pixel 9 times out of 10. If taking photos inside in low lighting, especially when the subject is people or food, the quality comes out super soft. Some people like it, but it looks terrible to me. In these situations, I'd choose the Pixel 2 every single time, as it's consistent.
@jassu what app do you mean?

I'm mostly satisfied withe the camera quality, but I don'get it how it's possible after few updates to still have one of the weakest AF on the market and most of the time it totally misses the subject that you choose to focus. OnePlus should definitely do something about this.
Photo quality is average. I find myself reaching for my phone over my real camera only if I'm feeling lazy or hesitant to pull the real camera out in extreme weather just for a quick snap.

Under my kids' bed, full auto sees nothing, night mode gets a lil supm-supm and manual with extended shutter sees it best. But I've never tried a shot like this on any device on purpose. Maybe I had beginner's luck with that manual shot, I just expected night mode to crush it, and it didn't - and it made the shutter open for 10 seconds which was hard to be still for.

Quality is always greater than anything.
I am not very much impressed by the front camera
I prefer Gcam ... especially it's 'night sight' mode works very well for night time shots.
Still not fully convinced - the quality of dusk/night pictures is not very impressive. I was really looking forward to buying it but feels like I got hyped too much and my expectations are through the roof...
