Screen on time - Samsung Galaxy J3 (2016) Real Life Review

It's amazing how much we actually use our phones in a given day, especially when we watch "videos"! Rate this thread to express how many hours of screen-on time you can get on the Samsung Galaxy J3 (2016) before depleting the battery.

This phone has amazing battery life compared to most flagships. It's also pretty much the cheapest phone with an OLED display. The low-power processor has its worse, but you'll never have to worry about a high framerate consuming excessive battery!

This phone after installing lineage is is amazing
The performance is day and night as compared to the stock ROM and battery life here you go

I love everything about this phone apart from the battery life which I was expecting more from. standby time is terrible on my previous phone I'd lose maximum 2% during the night but on this phone it isn't surprising to see 10% drain. The battery is large, the hardware isn't too demanding (1080p screen) so the only problem I see is the software but even after moving to lineage or rr my phone had only very small difference in battery life. the battery is my only only complaint.

Been using it for a few days now and there isn't much difference. I still lose more than 9% at night. Battery still sucks unfortunately. Hopefully there will be a kernel tweak or some other mod that can help.
it is a great phone indeed, i do love everything about it
good
The only word that say the pure meaning of having a Mi5s is "Awesome!"

I also had problems with standby drain. Yesterday I installed forcedoze and turned off the fingerprint reader. Now, I only have 2 percent battery drain during 9 hours which is very good.
Probably the best phone I've ever owned. My only real complaint is that the chin of the phone becomes uncomfortable after holding it one handed, right at the transition between the glass and the body. Other than that, I love it.
It is a balanced smartphone. With a good camera.
One less star because:
- Battery capacity
- Updates with delay. Currently Android 8.0
- The 800Mhz band is missing
- It does not have a wireless charge

No small charges in between?
Phones get better mileage at/between different percentages so it doesn't mean much if your not showing a near full discharge...
Here's my experience:
Had it charged to 100% at 9pm.
The 68% screenshot was taken at 8am.
22% at 1:33pm
9% at 3:09pm

Wow, that launcher drains more than Play services
I'd say it's faring pretty dang well. Over 7.5 hours SOT with almost 2 days of usage on a single charge? This, to me, is absolutely astounding. OPO did a phenomenal job on optimizing this device. Coming from my GS9 which is barely over 4.5 hours SOT on a good day, and the Pixel 3 XL which is... unremarkable at best.
Edit: Oh and of note, Battery saver has only been on since about 10-11%. Was simply wanting to make sure it made it until I went to bed!

Mostly browsing with Chrome, but also Viber and Google Voice for messages, YouTube and YouTube TV. I'll be posting new screenshots which will include the usage details.
First day battery test was a near full discharge. NO BATTERY SAVER USED. Moderate usage few videos, pictures taken, music, settings being configured to personal preference and got 7+ hours of SOT with 32hours till 10%. Got down to 5% at the 39 hours mark with 8+ SOT. Does anyone have advise on a healthy charging habit to keep battery accurate and healthy, to prolong the life charge. Would be great for battery health advice. Thanks. Enjoy

OnePlus 6T providing amazing battery life. The screen on time is more than 8 hours. Surprised by the battery life as i coming from galaxy note 5.
Impressive battery
????
I'm consistently getting over 10 hours of SOT over a period of 24 - 30 hours which is insane.
This is mostly with streaming through Netflix and YouTube.
I have turned off the battery optimisations as well.
Nice going, op6t!
Started with 100% in the PM.
OOS 9.0.5, Completely stock.
With the latest update i feel like the oneplus team has definitely made screen unlock a few milliseconds quicker, and after installing the latest arnova gcam (with night sight), i feel like i don't have anything left to complain about this phone. On top of that it gives great battery life.
11+ hours over 2 days, although i admit i don't game at all.

I tried the Gcam 6.1 Port from pixel on OOS 9.0.3 but it drains the battery a lot. SOT down to 5 hrs from 8+ hours. Approx 10 minutes usage of Gcam reduces around 15% of the battery.
I don't really do all that much, some clash royale, reddit, random websites, and mostly youtube browsing, oh and for today I used GPS for the 3hr drive to and from a meeting (brightness at 70% the first hour and 25% the rest), and i was also able to pull off 10hrs SOT over 20hr period. Pretty great considering the same type of usage would barely get me 4hrs on my 3T.
Although im almost certain this is from the colder weather and darker skies. That 10hrs is probably more like 6hrs in the summer day. Im not even sure this is good by any means, since im so used to garbage battery lol
Shoot I forgot the screenshot [web link]
Battery discharge from initial bootup. Battery started at 54%.
4+ hours SoT
A lot of FB, Chrome and installing apps/initial configuration stuff.
Installed 9.0.5 update.
Still have 9% left and hour of estimated usage.
Loving the 6t and this amazing battery life. Came from a Moto Z Force.
T-Mobile variant
First charge
Off charger at 7am
Mix usage, call, games, YouTube, reading, browsing interwebs
Not bad.

Highly disappointed with battery and heating

So 2 weeks with the phone. I absolutely love it, except for this huge problem. Is this normal??:
- It gets very overheated quickly, specially with camera or videocalls.
- Battery life is the worst one I have ever experienced. It will go from 100% to 15% in around 8h with 2,5h SOT. It's insane. Exact same setup with pixel 2 XL, lasts double
Do you think might be a damaged device? I tried ofc clean flash. Both Android 9 and 10 beta. Same issue...
Thank you
I've been having pretty bad battery life myself. Average of 3 to 3.5hrs SoT. Usually need a pick up charge during the day before bed.
Really annoyed cuz I love this phone. I've been trying out OnePlus 7 Pro and S10+. Don't like Samsung, used to love them, but I just hate that UI and their apps they push on you. OnePlus is amazing in terms of everything but the camera, and that is a big thing for me. OnePlus 7 Pro has been really great in performance, battery, everything, but the camera which is pretty mediocre.
I'm returning my OP7 Pro and going back to my Pixel 3. While I love the speed and smoothness of the 7 Pro, the camera is really bad. Too bad to compromise. Returning it and going back to my pixel 3 which also suffers crappy battery, but the camera is still the best
Yeah the battery life is mediocre, you would think they would have added some kernel profiling for such. Pubg eats battery when I play it and it gets so hot it's rather concerning. But on the plus side, it makes my wife put her phone down when she's riding on empty.
I might not be a power user but I get solid 5h SOT with DP3. Sometimes I can reach 6h SOT.
Standy by is around 14-16h, so it last a day.
As I am using DP3, I dont have any custom kernel not even root.
Signal at home sucks, I use wifi. But leaving home gives me the same result. If I stay in a place with good signal I can get even more.
Exactly the same issues I'm having. Overheating might usage and battery drain is horrendous.
Used the s10e with the same issues unfortunately. So went back to the pixel 3 knowing these compromises.
I think you may have a wakelock issue or a bad battery. I am running q beta 3 and still am at ~50 % after 11 hours

Do you think the pixel 3 is a good value phone today ?
I can have pixel 3 black in 128go for 400 € so I'm hesitating .....
Did the lasts updates improved battery life ?
Or it is more efficient to change the kernel to improve battery life ?
Thanks for your advices ?
Well after some days I have to say battery improved. It's not dramatic now but still being very weak. I changed location so maybe it's related to signal
For me now the dramatic point is the heating. There must be a bug or something, when you use front camera. It gets extremely hot. Videocalls are totally awful then

I think the phone is great in all other aspects. I am currently on Android Q beta 3 and the issues are the same from the time of purchase last October.
Regarding using custom kernels, I'm not into unlocking my phones and rooting nowadays so can't help you in that.
However if you are not into heavy gaming or editing, I've heard the 3a lineup performs better in regards to battery life. Might want to check them out before you decide.
I've been with beta for a while. Battery sucks but no overheating. This is the same with the official pie firmware.
I just got used to this and to be honest this happens with previous pixels.
It's an Android feature ?
I'm loving the size, camera and future navigation gesture.

as long as you run android pie (9.1), everything is good. you can watch the percent of your battery slowly decrease and thats okay. but.. if you upgrade to android 10, things become worse. it runs out of battery relatively fast. it led me to downgrading to android 9.1 asap. for the standard user that uses the screen often to communicate via whatsapp, facebook or whatever, it is definitely okay and i think it will last the normal workday (like from 8am to 10pm) if you use it that way.

Best ROM+Kernel for battery life?

Hi guys, I bought my P5 a month ago but I'm not very satisfied with it.
I mean, it's a fantastic smartphone but battery drain is very strange: when I have screen on it drains slowly but when I lock it, it drains faster.
Obv I tried to change every settings like 5G, 90Hz and also freeze some apps (pixel ambient services, digital wellbeing...) but didin't solved at all.
Now I'm on LOS 18 and seems to be a bit better, but I would ask you if you have seen big improvements using a different kernel.
Thank you, waiting for suggestions!
I've been on stock ROM and EX kernel for almost a year and my battery life is outstanding. I just had a stint where I went two full days without a charge. I do not have facebook or other known battery eaters on my phone, nor do I play games. I also set almost every app to battery restricted so they don't run in the background. But EX kernel is the real deal.

Absolutely agree with you.
After posting this, I tried ElementalX & stock rom for the first time and it's insane compared to stock rom & kernel.
LOS & EXKM is still the best combo but Gcam is a bit worse so I will keep stock with ElementalX.
Did you set something special in EXKM?
I appreciate a lot your answer, thank you
Well, every battery cicle for me is about 2 days with over 10 hours of total activity with podcasts and music and 2 to 4 hours of screen. That's stock, and never dipping below 35% or so.
The 5's battery life is quite good for this size just as a baseline.
