Low light: below average.
Daylight: Auto WB not accurate, yellowish tint. In direct sunlight photos, or part of them are overexposed.

check it now with hdr+, amazing camera!

With Google Camera the pics turn out awesome, even friends with iPhones 7, 8, X and Galaxys are impressed with the quality and portrait mode with a single camera. Here in Brazil people don't know much or even anything about the Pixels.

MGC_6.1.021_MI8_V2e and the settings I'll have to tell you later.

Hi so what setings do tuo use ?

Hi RisingNoob,
excellent photos.
The above mentioned Gcam app doesn't start (it crash on start) on my Mi 5s (running latest MIUI Oreo ROM). For now I use an older Mi 5s dedicated BSG Gcam app.
Maybe you have an advice.
Thanks.

I discovered an issue with the version a recomended few posts ago, was trying to take shots in dark evironments when the app started crashing in a random way. I was able to take some shots before and after each crashing, then I went out and seached for other version.
Now I'm using the version from this post: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-5s/themes/mgc-6-1-021-arnova-xcam-mi9v8-perfect-t3917166
And so far so good: no crashing, good quality, lots of customizations. Plus the post has a config file ready to apply.

in its time this phone took the best pictures. I miss it

Coming from the Samsung Galaxy S Duos, the camera of Oneplus Two has amazed me a lot. I compared it with Samsung Galaxy S5 & S6 and it stood out very well to S6,while it totally outclassed the S5.(This comparison was done at night) . The Oneplus Two captures real life colors and the details are awesome. The trees shots are sometimes kind of very green and like oil painting but it's great. Video may be improved a lot. OIS & LAF works very well. Overall, an outstanding camera but could be improved a lot better with software tweaks. Thanks.
I have both OnePlus one and OnePlus 2 . Both cameras have the same megapixels. From my observation, OnePlus 2 is a lot better. Not much grain in low light, more texture, and more saturation.
I think that opt stock camera adds too much sharpness to the pictures. Take a picture of something with straight lines and zoom in on the picture. The lines are over-sharp but that's just my opinion. If you don't zoom the pictures look great.
No need for so much sharpness, very small jpg file.
photos in outdoor are just amazing , like @Kirahvi mentions there was quite a bit of sharpness back then , now i think that has been dealth with .
Hdr mode completely sucks, once it works another time it don't. BUT, after turning on raw and taking photos in normal mode or manual it is just.. amazing. First time when I took selfie with main camera my jaw dropped when I saw all the details of the skin, it looks like taking glimpse through magnifying glass. First camera app that I can set iso 100 and it will handle shutter speed itself which is awesome. Camera itself gave me though that money was very well spent on that phone and decision of selling my camera and Nexus 5 in exchange was a great deal, it has even more that those two had to offer.
I think that my photos can speak for themselves

With mine i experiencing photo smearing while using HDR \ HQ mode.
lot of quality loss... mine is the A2001.
Is there any differences between the A2001 -3-5 in terms of camera quality?

I don't think there's a difference when it comes to versions.
In fact this device camera is just ****ty because of Oneplus Software.
Theorically it just should be fine, but since OOS 3.x they just destroyed quality...
And it's just stupid to have manual control with stock camera...
Edit : My old Mi4 was a bit better.
Something weird with this device is that there are some artifacts on long exposure shots with specific ISO.
Just check this picture :
http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/929229IMG20170409005217.jpg
And hum still don't mention, OIS has to be disabled (by build.prop edition, as there is not setting to do so...) in oder to do long exposure shots. If you don't do so you get blurry pictures as OIS tried to compensate accelerometer background noise...

I'm mostly satisfied withe the camera quality, but I don'get it how it's possible after few updates to still have one of the weakest AF on the market and most of the time it totally misses the subject that you choose to focus. OnePlus should definitely do something about this.
Photo quality is average. I find myself reaching for my phone over my real camera only if I'm feeling lazy or hesitant to pull the real camera out in extreme weather just for a quick snap.
With gcam photos are looking very nice!
Average with stock camera app but quite good with gcam.

As far as I know yes
Under my kids' bed, full auto sees nothing, night mode gets a lil supm-supm and manual with extended shutter sees it best. But I've never tried a shot like this on any device on purpose. Maybe I had beginner's luck with that manual shot, I just expected night mode to crush it, and it didn't - and it made the shutter open for 10 seconds which was hard to be still for.

Very nice picture. Stock or Gcam? Nightshot?
Thanks that's stock
Quality is always greater than anything.
I am not very much impressed by the front camera
I prefer Gcam ... especially it's 'night sight' mode works very well for night time shots.
Still not fully convinced - the quality of dusk/night pictures is not very impressive. I was really looking forward to buying it but feels like I got hyped too much and my expectations are through the roof...
Could you post a few more (especially bad lightning) and try to "convince me"?
I use gcam and with this app the photos are good.
Stock camera app is useless for photos because it produce oil paintings not crisp images.

Do you have vignette on the RAW images at stock camera app?
I noticed, especially in low light at iso 100.

Two photos. One from stock cam 16mpix and second one from gcam 4mpix (the blue tint is from tv)
I dont know what oneplus is doing with their app but its so poor in quality. 4 times smaller image has more details. Good we have te gcam port

Are you sure that any beauty mode options in the stock cam are turned off? That kind of de-sharpening usually happens because it's trying to remove blemishes, maybe I'm wrong...
Selfie cam is mediocre. About the same as my LG V30.

Yeah a bit of noise on that one. Just default settings/auto, with HDR I think on that one. Gcam port should really unlock the potential of this hardware.
I am really liking the cam so far though...

Curious to see it, as the people on the bench (lower left) look soft on the focus ....
I made a comparison between Huawei Mate 20 Pro and Xiaomi Mi 9.
https://photos.app.goo.gl/ecGsAyjPUKVQ7adX9
I'll gradually add more photos.
See the watermark to differentiate the phones.
Images without watermark were captured with the Google Pixel Port (in the dark with Nightsight)
Images were captured via point and shoot, both "AI" Features are enabled. Google Pixel with HDR+
Mate 20 superior in dark but that's no surprise. Solid cam on Mi9 nevertheless.
Im not very satisfied with the camera quality. It seems like that the mi9 is doing worse compared to what I was used from my Galaxy S7 or even with my Xiaomi Mi Mix 2s. Here a few pictures from yesterday. At some point the software seems to do to much magic and kills the quality. Plus, the software seems to be unstable and the camera crashed two times while taking pictures and was not able to connect again to the camera -> reboot / kill camera app and start it again.
All done with HDR Auto and AI on.

WOW ! zooming into the originals and they look CRAP ! over use of oil painting effect....
I hear you - Im looking to upgrade from a S7 and picture quality is high on my list... that is not acceptable !
Are you using AI mode or other filtering options?

HDR was set to "Auto" and AI was "On". No (other) filtering was used and yes, this oil painting wheen zooming in is insane. I really hope that this is just a bug and Xiomi will fix it soon, since even the Mi Mix 2s have not had that bad image quality.

Try turning AI off - i hear that messes up the end result worse then making it better
But agree - shouldn't need to turn off a feature that other manufactures dont have issues with ...
could someone install gcam and take some images on the mi9 with that?

Great shots!
Is there any possibility to shoot RAW (DNG) photos from stock camera apk? Can anybody post RAW photo from every MI9 sensor? (especialy from 48mp)
why mi9 uses very high iso in low light?
for example when other phones settings is about 1/17sec and iso 2000, mi9 setting is about 1/14 and iso +7000 !
even redmi note 7 iso is much lower.

Interesting I thought that Mi9 is increasing iso to achive lower exposure time beacuse of lack of OIS, but dunno why other phones has the same time and lower iso while having the same aperture (about f/1.7) maybe Mi9's f/1.75 is fake?
Did you compare same light conditions photos?
PS Could someone post RAW from Mi9?

I tried shooting portrait using this phone, I'm pretty impressed with the result. Although not perfect, it's good.
I had pixel 2 xl which still shoots great photos, it goes par for me.
Since I'm not that photo guy. I honestly say that the photo quality is great. I'm coming from pixel 2 xl, so i can definitely say it does the job, for social media posting too.
I shoot videos on YouTube and it is very important for me that the video quality is high. Tell me if the camera of this phone can be professional?

i tried 64mp vs 16mp on a huge billboard,
16mp the text was neat, no wavy texts going on. but the 64 mp looks the same, file size is way bigger, image resolution is bigger, but the quality, once you zoom in.. you can see the differences.
Quality is so so! I need a better mobilephone....
