Heat - Xiaomi Mi 5s Real Life Review

Some phones are great to take camping because if you play Asphalt 8 long enough, the back warms up to the ideal temperature that can bake bread. Rate this thread to express the extent to which the Xiaomi Mi 5s stays cool under extended heavy use. A higher rating indicates that even when playing strenuous games for long periods of time, the phone doesn't get uncomfortably warm.

Which rom are you using?

heating doesn't seem to be an issue, unless you're playing grafics demanding games... overall it's acceptable

playing Implosion - Never Lose Hope for about 2hours on highest settings didn't feel any heat at all...
it just lukewarm..... SystemPanel2 reported temp around 40C - 41C only....

The snapdragon 821 in known to thermal throttle. That fact is the same with this device. When the device is at room temperature, performance is great but as it approaches 35-40 Celsius, performance decreases noticeably in order to reduce heat. Overall, it is equal to what you could expect of any device using a snapdragon 821.

Yes, the only problem I got so far is the heat. It's above average but not the most.

Yep, i feel that the heat also i didn't push harder the device yet, just internet and a few app.

Mine would heat up quite a bit before but then I used some thermal paste, Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut, on the cpu and gpu and it seems to fair a lot better now. Running PUBG for a while it doesn't go beyond about 52 and averages around 48.

Heats while gaming and then it throttles. Phone itself doesn't get much hot but the metal frame can get uncomfortable

using a case solved this problem for me....
Heat is not an issue for me even when stressing the OP2 with mild gaming. It feels about as cool as my 6P in normal use.
No issue regarding heat for me. I can only get my phone slightly warm if i repeat geekbench over and over for 15 minutes
Verstuurd vanaf mijn ONE A2003 met Tapatalk
It gets hot as much as any other phone I have tested. The aluminium frame gets quite warm when gamming or any intensive cpu activity, but it's not a big issue.
Heat is an issue every time I reboot
Latest update 2.1.2 improved Op2 alot. earlier when I used to play NFS no limits on stock kernal temp raised upto 43 but now after update it hardly cross 41 degree. so heat management is improved alot. :good:
Great work OP team keep pushing updates :highfive:
I am also very happy with the new update 2.1.2. I am using AK kernel though, so I can't say how it works with stock... but can't complain about the heat issue.
When using cardboard phone gets to 50+ degrees
Heating is normal comparing to other phones..
Got a bit too warm but it's acceptable
heat
no problem for me. haven't exceeded high 90's F. i am not a gamer.
I've never had an issue with heat here

I'm on OxygenOS 2.2.0 and it works great.. it gets a little bit warm while playings havy games but it is cooler than my Nexus 4 or my sister's OnePlus One.. so it's ok for me!
Aggressive throttling
My note 3 was the only phone I have ever had heat issues with
I've had less heating issues on the oneplus 2 than the oneplus one
In all honesty I haven't had a problem with heat and my oneplus 2. Yes, it DOES get hotter than other phones, but not even close to uncomfortably hot. I am perfectly fine playing High Definition 3D games on my OPT
It got really uncomfortable playing high GPU/CPU intensive games. I had to quit gaming on mobile. Normal usage is fine.

No only on Galaxy 8 but most of the models get heated while extended use. It is better to keep it from using it prolonged hours. I have not heard any incident of blast but it is good to be safe.
It is not about particular brand but it happens with almost all of the brand. If you use any mobile devices for prolonged hours it will get heated and sometimes may be exploded.

Lol....3 posts and you can came to spot this nonsense?!
Using TomTom app for over an hour yesterday and my S8 really contributed to global warming. No it wasn't charging at the same time and not attached to the windshield nor in direct sun-light.
On the other hand I experienced this same effect with previous smartphones ?
You wouldn't expect to use a PC/Laptop for an hour or more and it not get hot. The same goes for a phone which is essentially a small PC!
max Temp with mine under load is 43°c (Aida64). Battery is a bit lower.
Anyways most if not all of the modern SoCs are getting warmer then odler Models (Which is normal) . I think thats why many Devices have a Heartpipe build in now.
The only SoC where i was worried was the Snapdragon 810 in the HTC M9.
I found this device (G950F just to be more precise) to be a bit cooler than the previous iterations (and I've used all it's predecessors), probably the large footprint has an influence here as well.
Mine gets a little warm, but I haven't gotten it uncomfortably so, regardless of what I've thrown at it so far. Seems to top out in that "noticeably warm but not uncomfortably so" range, which is nice
Had my phone for only 24H no heat yet! but the same happened with my s7 edge for some reason even after re flashing the stock rom with ODIN it started heating like crazy! also I haven't taken it outside yet, my s7 edge's battery goes up to 37 outside! even up to 38!
Had mine for 2 months now. It warms up after prolonged use but what do you expect? It's normal! Nothing unusual

Haven't use it extensively but the past week I only got the excessive heat warning pop up when i opened the camera app for a prolong time.
i have Black Device, when ever i use the device at direct sunlight it seems absorbing heat by it's chassis and device getting hot. it seems throttle down the CPU, and it's make the device lagging.
i dont know if this is overheat or normal heat. but im sure this is the hottest one i ever used so far.
In nougat there is no heating issue when using mobile net, playing asphalt 8 or camera use. After updated to Oreo there is heating issue when using mobile net or opening apps. Why heating in Oreo?

device tents to become a little warm when using the camera, no other issues
Doesn't heat much unlike honor 8.
I read a few reviews saying that it heats a lot even during normal use (browsing, downloading apps...). I also read Huawei was supposed to push an update to fix that problem. Any feedback would be very much appreciated.
Seeing as the Honor 9 has a glass and metal sandwich construction. It's quite normal for it to get quite hot when it's being used heavily.
Doesn't heat that much..
No significant heat at all.
It gets hot on heavy using. In place where honor logo on back is
The temperature on charge and use is okay is normally.
On no Charge and use is normally againg no problem.
This depends on how you use your device. I have not experience much heat on my Honor 9, but I don't use it as much for gaming.

High SoC Temperatures

so according to JerryRigEverything Teardown of the Mix 3, there is thermal paste on the SoC to lower the temps, however according to Antutu and CPU-Z sensors my SD 845 reaches 40-45 ALOT during light use; almost at idle being 36-40C, as high as 50C a couple of times, and 45-47C average during gaming opposite to my previous Honor Play which topped out at 42C after like 2 games of Pubg and ranges from 30-35C normal light use.
my antutu scores aren't suffering though my average is 295,000. (a bit higher than other SD845 phones that aren't "gaming" phones)
is it normal for SD 845? since it boosts to 2.8 GHZ
is it xiaomi pushing the SoC a bit to gain an edge? more heat due to more sustained boost for example.
faulty phone?
on the other side, my battery temps are low, like 28-30C idle, 30-32C light use and like 33-36C gaming & wirless charging
