DoubleTap2Wake Feature is gone.. Can it be revived? How? - Sony Xperia XZs Questions & Answers

I'd like to know if there's a way to get DoubleTap2Wake Feature back? all my past phones has it.. And now that i have XZs, it felt weird not to have it... i always have that knee jerk expression of double tapping my phone realizing that it won't open..

It's gone (that technology) according to the latest information I had from Sony.

Nobody knows if it can be reinstalled with other firmware updates or with a custom rom?
Thanks
Cheers

JF RC33 or LucidREM No Multi-Touch request

"RC33JF" vs. cupcake - does cupcake have multitouch built in?
I expect some are going to jump on me for asking a dumb question, but a search on this site, which I consider the finest knowledge base around on this topic, yielded mostly conversations around the fact that cupcake will support multitouch, but they don't mention if it is turned on out of the box. In other words, would we need Luke/JF's patch work as we did with RC30 for multitouch to work, or would it just work as it should.
With RC33 out and my confidence in JF that there will be a "RC33JF out within a week" and what appears to be a MUCH more usable cupcake image (as of 2/2, anyway), I am thinking hard about if I'd give up RC33 and Maps, Gmail, etc. and just use AndNav, K9, etc. and APK repositories to survive to get my A2DP bluetooth and full time virtual keyboard, and cupcake is looking more and more promising...
first off, multitouch only works in the browser. Im not sure if the current browser would work with the cupcake firmware. If it does then you could just push it to the phone using adb.
JF or LucidREM can one of you please please please make this image without the multi-touch hack in it. You don't know how much i would appreciate it and probably others. Its too weird to have it throughout the OS and there aren't any apps that can utilize it.
I have no use for the multi and don't like the quirky issues that come with it.
Again please please please and thank you! Your work IS appreciated greatly!
you are incorrect multi-touch effects apps other than the browser in 1.41
It may cause problems but it doesnt work properly. The app would have to be coded to work with the hack. I dont know of any apps that have been coded to work with this hack.
It's off by default. Just go into your browser settings and uncheck what you checked in the first place.
I don't know much about it (multi-touch) but if it's built into the OS and (allegedly?) leads to some quirks here and there (does it?) I don't understand how you can turn it off from the browser...
I'm sure there are a lot of us who don't care about multi-touch at this point, so I would agree with the OP that it would be nice to have the option of a modified RC33 *without* multi-touch.
I would like to add my request as well.
Its off by default in the browser but the kernel is still hacked to sense multi-touch which causes issues with certain apps. This is because the hack uses an existing field to sense the 2nd finger. So apps that actually use that field for legitimate purposes don't work correctly.
Pls add me to the requests for a no-multi-touch version.
It is my understanding that you can turn auto rotate on and off in the browser, but not multi-touch.
there are the highest chances that multi-touch wont be included in cupcake..that is in the original unmodified update..
kernel is still hacked to sense multi-touch which causes issues with certain apps

Which apps are having issues? Somebody mentioned Steamy Windows in another thread... what other apps are having issues. I like the auto-rotate/multi-touch functionality in that order.

I was having issues where my home screen would skip back and forth. I also had issues clicking the proper menu options/icons.
So yeah count my vote in too.

OMG, how many threads are you going to post this in? I've counted about 4. If your steamy windows app doesn't work on JF v1.41, go back to non-rooted. I took a look at your past 15 posts, and it all relates to the multi-touch. Version 1.31 didn't have it, you could use that...
/rant
Honestly, beggars can't be choosers.
If JF chooses to not implement this, I think it'd be a step back. You are all welcome to go back to 1.31 or even use the nonrooted version... or better yet, come out with your own version of root.
But, ultimately it's up to JF, and I really hope he doesn't waste his time making two separate versions of 1.33. Ofc, if you really want him to listen to you, don't be a beggar, and be a supporter.
https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=1014600
If JF doesn't do it, someone else probably will... which is perfectly fine. Nobody is knocking JF if he won't do this.
I think people are just asking (kindly, I don't see anyone being a jerk about it honestly) for a "vanilla" RC33... As in, exactly as it came from Google except WITH root access added back in. No extra stuff, no recompiled kernel, no extra modules, nothing but root access added back in.
All of my posts are about it because it is the biggest issue with people in the 1.41 build.
The stock RAW image viewer does not work properly either...or cracked screen app....just becasue the apps that take advantage of the second field arent great right now doesnt mean that this isn't an issue. It could end up being a big issue since most dev's don't develop for hacked ROMS.
And for your info I have been running 1.31 for the past few days. I just don't want to see this hack pigeon hole users into not being able to use certain apps. I would like to be able to take advantage of future releases without having multi-touch.
Currently it is only a benefit in the browser and the stock zoom works much smoother, and in the rest of the OS it is a bother.
I will continue to voice my concern and it appears that quite a few others have the same concern.

Feel free to ask all you want. I think it might fall on deaf ears. The point I was trying to make, is that it's not necessary to post in 4-5 different threads. I think one thread would be sufficient enough...
I agree with justanothercrowd. I'm all for the multi-touch hack, but the fact that its using an existing documented field is an issue.
I believe if you search the threads JF has already answered this question or it has been at least brought up. The only problem that was really brought to light was the steamy app. Really I think this would be a huge hassle for JF who works for free to have to update two versions every time an update is to come out maybe a simple setting to turn it off would be easier and more likely.
a setting would be great. and im more than willing to contribute $$$ for the extra time spent. i would recompile my own but im not that savvy with the android platform yet.
any feedback jf?

[Poll] - Multi-touch or Normal touch

Please read after vote !!!!!!!!!!
If you use FW JF version with multi-touch (JF1.4x) you will see these bug :
If you play some game, when you touch 2 fingers to the screen, the device understand that you touch 1 finger between 2 fingers
Because of it, when you use chompSMS, you will take mistake easily, sometime when using chompSMS soft keyboard, the screen vibrate longer and very inconvenience . I tried chompSMS on other phone use original FW of Google (without multi-touch) and chompSMS work perfect.
I sent some email to REM and JF to request an update without multi-touch, but they said it's not really need.
The multi-touch driver of lukehutch is not perfect. Thank for multi-touch and root phone, JF. But the multi-touch is not perfect and you should make an option to enable/disable it or make 2 update files : one comes with multi-touch and one without multi-touch.

Are you seriously telling someone who dedicates his time on a volunteer basis what they should do? He is doing us all a favor, and he should do whatever he wants to, if you don't appreciate his work - don't use it.
Honestly, if you want a different ROM for your phone, because you aren't happy with the stock ROM or JF's ROM, either develop your own or find someone else to do it. But don't demand that JF does what you want him to.
Btw - the only onscreen keyboard I have used is in Steel, and it is just as accurate with the multi touch as it was before.
And, I for one love imperfect things, the world is full of them and life wouldn't exist as we know it if it were not for imperfections. So bring them on!

I agree. I have used ChompSMS and I don't have a problem. I also have played some of the free version of the games (from glu) and I don't have any problems with the multi-touch. There are a lot of things that we would certainly want improved upon with the G1 however the multi-touch is one of the enhancements that we want to KEEP not to lose. I would personally like to see MT on Map and in pictures. Even if someone was to disable it why would he/she go through the trouble? I can see if several people urged him/her to do so and perhaps that's your point and goal of this thread but at the moment all of us are working on making it BETTER... not original. Multi-touch is in fact something that makes it better and sets it apart from stock. Bottom line... there really is no need.

[Q] Is there a Android app like "Activator: on the iPhone

Hello,
I was wondering if there was an Android app like Activator on the iPhone? I have searched to the best of my abilities regarding this question but have not found a clear answer. The closest I have come to finding this answer was the app "LaunchKey." However, it does not seem to fit what I am looking for.
Reason for this search is due to my brief episode with the iPhone 3g and yes I know...(after finding out, android system is definitely better in terms of customizing and freedom) Thus during that time I came upon this app called "Activator", which is basically amazing. Now that I am back using the android system I realized the only I miss about the iPhone was that app.
So if anyone can help that would be great! Thanks!
BTW:
Background information on the iPhone jailbreak app "Activator." Basically you can launch any apps and system actions via gestures or hardware buttons. (such as long-press, short-press, double tap,etc...)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=850464
and for gestures Im not entirely sure where I saw it or or what it was called but it does exist.
Reply
Thanks for the reply, however, I did stumble upon that app but it does not really support long press, short press, double tap and other various hardware buttons. As for gestures, I guess it does not matter as much as the hardware button configuration. Basically can a button have more functions than just one ie: home button-going to home. Thanks
I'm hoping that this app exists, as its one of the first apps I discovered years ago that was auto installed after jail breaking my previous iPhone. The app basically allows you customize a very large range of settings as shortcuts.
http://m.lifehacker.com/5899492/mak...hen-you-connect-or-disconnect-your-headphones
not strongly related but here's an app which I found very useful:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=tora.mamma.swipestart
Thanks!
Thanks for your input I however have found the app "SwipePad" to be extremely useful, albeit not the original application I was looking for but it does the job Thank you again!
really!!! Android is amazing, I think is like a pocket pc, but sometimes I miss my old iPhone when I remember cydia tweeks like Activator. :silly:

Widgets are great but you still have to unlock the phone and look at the screen and press it. With activator you can, for example, press the power button of the phone twice and that will initiate the flash light... this is much better when you are in need of the flash light quickly...I wish android had something like that...

I believe since the time I have posted this question to the present, there have been alternatives as well as actual implementations to the hardware tweaks. Currently, there are baked in hardware tweaks in custom ROM such as CM10.1 (lock screen long press buttons do variety of different things) or software programs such as swipepad, or Trigger app (Both of which I use a lot)
My current ROM CM10.1 has the capability of accessing the flashlight from the longpress of home button while in lockscreen. Or even changing music volume and music track by volume press/longpress. This I consider the equivilent of what you were referring to.

**ATTENTION: any of the information I have provided are based on my own experience/knowledge/research. IT IS IMPERATIVE(important) that you do your own research to double check my information and advice. If ever in DOUBT, ask/research around. (or dont follow through is usually the safest option) YOU are ultimately responsible for what you do with YOUR device, if you don't believe this, please do not continue dabbling in this area.
You should be able to do that, to "unroot" your phone, but it depends on the device as well as the instructions that other developers/rooters have given. (meaning not 100% probable, you need to do more research)
*JUST NOTICED YOU SAID YOU ARE ROOTED
-To get Stock ROM, just download the appropriate ROM zip files and then flash it.
-if you want to get warranty back, you will have to follow instructions for your device on how to unroot. (if even possible)
Follow the instructions given on the cyanogenmod website, usually involves flashing and wiping. (sounds like you have a samsung phone )
Based on question 3 statement, I believe you have to do MORE research. (as this is an extremely basic idea of rooting, unless of course I misread or the question was mistyped) Here is where you can start:CM about
Again, you have to do MORE research yourself, google is your friend for that. There is no one size fits all unrooting method.
Cyanogenmod (also known as CM) has an software release life cycle. (not counting the M snapshot nor experiments) You have Stable>Nightly> Release Candidates(RC).
Taken from this Forum
bassmadrigal:
Stable is after all the features desired by the CM devs have been put in and the code has been tested. Snapshots (M builds) are builds done roughly once a month that has had some testing to make sure things are mostly working and released to the public. These are the first builds that allow official bug reports on the project manager site, https://jira.cyanogenmod.org. Nightlies are automated builds that are built, well, every night. There is no human interaction with these and they are largely there just to see if the code added throughout the day will compile. As far as the devs are concerned, there are no bad builds with the nightlies, because if it doesn't build, that is news to let them know that something is screwed up in the code. They don't accept any bug reports on these builds.
Generally, the nightly builds, while extremely experimental and considered bleeding-edge, tend to be relatively stable and mostly bug-free. Many people use the nightlies as their so-called daily-driver, meaning that any bugs that they may have aren't so severe that they want to switch to a different version. For my Nexus 4, as soon as I got it I switched to a nightly build and haven't had any bugs pop up.
Also, all builds are full builds, so if you switch to a nightly, you aren't required to flash every single nightly. You can do it as you see fit. I've been known sometimes to flash a build every day, but then I've gone a month in between updating. Just grab the latest version you want to flash and flash that one.

Quick quetsions about new fresh???

Okay, so I just updated to gingerbread fresh 4.1.1.0 and have a few issues \ questions.
First, the last update I believe removed the "gps off" icon in the top status bar, and now its back. I googled it a bit and there were some mod files but I don't think they apply to my version now.
Second, the "this day in history" app that I backed up can't be restored. Anyone know if its a compatibility issue? If so, is it possible to get that updated app from somewhere else? I tried a few of the other history apps and didn't like em!
Thirdly and finally, I know I'm not alone with this, the market update feature. Unless I specifically go into downloads and it tells me what needs to be updated, it doesn't inform me otherwise. I know this must stick in more craws then just mine, so I'm hoping ya'll know something that can fix it.
Either way any help is much appreciated!!!
Because of the lately high amounts of cosmic rays i no longer have the ability to read minds.
You will have to do it the old fashioned way and mention it in your post.
I know its old school, but hey, damn those rays!
While your at it throw in current ROM, previous ROM, versions of the app in question and what ever else you can provide.
Yeah, sry for lack of details... Last ROM was Fresh 3.5 and current is 4.1.1.0.
The "this day in history" actually came with the last rom but I assumed, wrong or right, that it was stock from sprint.
As for the market, I've never had any luck with it letting me know when I need an update for the apps, except when I'm actually there to check.
And that GPS off icon is a pain and where there were some mod files used to fix it those were with previous versions.
Anyway, thanks for any help.
Oh and the pull down power controls are gone... As in you'd pull down the menu bar and be able to turn wifi gps etc on and off. That really craws [email protected]

official 4.4.2 on the way :)

Samsung has been on a KitKat spree lately, and it has just about covered most of its popular devices from the last two(ish) years with the update. Today, Verizon updated its support docs for the Galaxy SIII, which indicates that the update is on its way in the coming days, as well.
Aside from KitKat, this update brings a couple of new enhancements, like the inclusion of Isis. Otherwise, it's basically the same song and dance – updated applications, bug fixes, an improved multi-app experience, the like.

Yes, there shouldn't be discussion threads until and update is going to be released. Not everybody has the time to read through a discussion thread that's been around for months to see if there is an update.
Just my 2¢
Sent by me.
Just got a notification for update! Kitkat 4.4.2 :good:
Me too !!
Me Too !!
Wait, let me post that again
Me too !!
Guess what?
I'm not taking any OTAs
I'm waiting for the developer release so I won't be f---ked.
No me too !
Performed update. Now what is this icon?!
I performed the update last night and now there is an icon in my notification bar that won't go away and doesn't appear when I maximize the window. Its incredibly frustrating!
It won't let me post a link and the image file is too big, so add dropbox to the beginning of this and it is a picture of the icon.
/sh/z6vh4b8g4qknlog/AABIf5TlJUNssKa-q-VC8Dhna
Does anyone know what this is?
Nevermind! Found it doing a google image search. It is the NFC icon and can be accessed by expanding notifications and touching the top right (4 square like) icon. From there you can add the toggle button to your quick menu or turn it off.
this is the point in time were i wish i didnt have an unlocked bootloader
Did the update change/unlock anything useful?
Back when I had JB I asked this forum if I could install KitKat and was told it wasnt possible. Did the update make custom roms possible again?

Thanks for the quick reply. That's really disappointing though. I was really disappointed to see that, after updating, my phone doesnt look any different. According to the official kitkat page, I should have new features like immersion, updated hangouts and a new phone app. I don't see any of them, but my phone says its running version 4.4.2 and I'm current on updates. Am I missing something?
