Japan Version 602SO (Softbank) - Sony Xperia XZs Questions & Answers

I just got this phone through my carrier, SoftBank. Does anyone know if it is possible to flash overseas FTF files to the Japan version? I don't care about losing things like FeLiCa and OneSeg, would just prefer an overseas firmware with less SoftBank bloat.

Curious if doing so on a softbank or docomo XZ model would open up data use on wcdma bands which don't work on Japan models...

About to move to Dubai

Number of questions...
I currently live in the UK and use the following mobiles the MDA Compact IV and the Samsung U900 soul as my back up phone (both currently locked to T-Mobile). I am about to move to Dubai and would like to know:::
1) Will these phones work over there... really confirm what I think (IE they will provided they are unlocked).
2) Does T-Mobile operate over there? If not what service providers are there and how competitive are they? I benefit from being on an employees tariff with T-Mobile at the moment.
3) Does anyone want to buy a T-Mobile branded Athena with the AP4.0 Rom?

I think GSM and CDMA standard here is same as Europe. There are only 2 operators, Etisalat and Du.
Du is just new and has some coverage problem so you may want to go with Etisalat.
I have been here 2 years and I am not impressed by bought Etisalat and Du.
WCDMA is umts
CDMA is a 2g phone std. that America and few others use that don't use sim cards
don't believe Dubai use CDMA

[Q] Will a D6603 work in Japan with DOCOMO sim cards?

I thought I understood cell phones pretty well until I tried to figure out the system in Japan...I believe LTE in Japan is using B1, B3, B19 and sometimes B21, and the D6603 has two of these, B1 and B3 - is that enough for a data plan, mainly in Tokyo? And since the D6603 is unlocked, is that enough to use their sims, or does it need to be rooted as well? Also, the D6603 is LTE-A, does that mean it can work on TD and FDD LTE networks? It would be great if anyone had first hand experience, but any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I am fairly certain it physically does not have the other bands, T-Mobile as far as I know does not disable other bands especially since they have global roaming plans.

I am trying to do this
The bands on the phone should not be locked. Please look up the LTE bands on the phone and see if your carrier supports them:

I am pretty sure it's an exercise in futility as T-Mobile does not block bands, the phone either physically has them or doesn't.
Better return/sell it and get the international version.

Using an unlocked (by someone) sprint S8+ on GSM, will get all GSM frequencies?

Question for those who know more than I do... If someone gets a sprint S8+ unlocked (A SPRINT DEVICE THAT HAS BEEN UNLOCKED NOT A FACTORY UNLOCKED DEVICE) to use on GSM (T-mobile, AT&T, etc) will it get all the GSM/LTE freqencies and bands for usa gsm services like T-mobile, AT&T, etc... Or are the SPRINT S8+ crippled on the GSM frequencies?

If you flash the U1 firmware that comes from the unlocked US phones, you should be good if the phone's already network/SIM unlocked-that firmware doesn't have the carrier bloat, but it detects the SIM card inserted and will adjust the network stuff accordingly so that it operates on the right bands, etc. If you'd prefer to have all the carrier apps/ bloat as well, there are several threads on carrier switching. Flashing the U1 firmware is fairly straightforward and easy, and most carrier features work; Switching from Sprint firmware to another carrier's firmware is a bit more involved but still totally doable. You're going to have to do one of the two though.
Edit: All of the US models have the exact same hardware, with all of the same radios...the unlocked model is the exact same as a variant from T-Mobile/Sprint/etc. It's just the CP & CSC firmware files that dictate the network stuff.

Question S22 Ultra EE to Vodafone

Hi,
I previously had a UK EE e-sim in my S22 Ultra and since then I have switched networks to Vodafone UK (normal sim) but I am having a lot of issues with the signal.
Both my boy's phones (Sony and Xiaomi) work so much better on the same network and same location.
I noticed that the carrier service on the phone shows as EVR rather than VOD.
How do I change the service provider version without resetting the phone and is there a Vodafone UK specific firmware available?
