VZW Model of HTC U11? - HTC U11 Questions & Answers

Do you think that the HTC U11 will be released on VZW's website or do we have to order it for the $650 from HTC? I personally hope it's released on VZW's website seeing as I can't afford to pay $650+ for a phone and otherwise I'm out of newer phone choses unless I choose the evil side and go for the iPhone 7+ or something like that.

No VZW will never sell it in store. There are plenty of codes floating around for a $50 discount and you can use paypal or amazon financing and get 0% for up to 24 months same as the carrier.

Walmart Letstalk

Like many out there, I tried to purchase a Captivate from Walmart/Letstalk when they were advertising the ridiculously low off-contract price. Of course they did not honor it and that was expected. More than anything I was kind of annoyed that they told me I had to have an ATT contract in order to buy the phone there (so much for "Off Contract").
So I complained to the BBB on the basis that they changed their price up then back down then back up (skip to the last paragraph to skip any explanation of what I said). I mentioned that I understand if it was a pricing error then that's that, but the fact that it was posted twice (once after it was "fixed") combined with not finding wording stating that you must have a current ATT contract in addition to being told the first time that it was just an address issue, that I would like them to resolve the issue. My ideal resolution would be honoring the price (never expected) or at the very least fixing the wording on their site to make it clear that you needed an ATT account.
I sent the complaint to Walmart since if you navigate to their site from there, there is very little telling you that you are on a new site (letstalk.com) and also because it was the only way I could see to bring the issue to the attention of Walmart (short of sending a letter via snail mail).
Anyway, the resolution they offered was to give me 100 dollars off the purchase price (still need an ATT account though). I'm just posting this in case anybody else wants to give it a shot. I personally did not accept their offer (I can't anyway) and offered a middleground solution of them posting on their site that you need an ATT contract in order to purchase off contract.
100 bucks off? maybe they'll just give u a gift card and ask u to pay the retail price on the phone.
never mind

They offered $100 off for all those who ordered but didn't call in to cancel. But that's still $399.
I ended up paying $275 for an early upgrade in AT&T store.
As for AT&T account requirement, that's normal practice and since you can't get any unlock code anyway for Captivate (see other threads). So what's good to buy a Captivate without AT&T account.
turbo sim seems interesting though

I would assume so you dont have to extend your contract two years with att ,
If I can buy new phones every year (with $75 early upgrading fee), I have no problem extending my contract. It's not like I can't get any new phone until 2 years later.
FYI, my last upgrade was @ 10/2009 with 2-year contract. So, nine months for a new phone isn't too bad for me.
Verizon simply isn't an option for me (I need GSM phones for international travel). So, it's not like I have another carrier to sign on to.
I went the first day they released the phone and bought on contract at best buy, where they matched the price of the walmart website which free! The guy I bought from also told me they would match the off contract price. So I ended up just paying the tax for two phones. I honestly don't know what best buy's policy is on price matching, but the best buy mobile guy and his manager approved the price match.

What price was that? $149?
I see it in Wirefly for $99. Wonder if they would match that.Although I'd be willing to pay a bit more to get it locally.
To my surprise, BB has it in their store for $229. Anyone paying that has done zero research. I suppose there are poor souls that fit in that category.

I paid 199 for my phone at Best Buy the second day it was out. They price matched the AT&T advertised price. I wasn't really concerned at the price because I had gift cards for best buy from a rebate offer I wasn't expecting so I ended up getting the phone for free.

G2X Unlocked deals? Post here...

I know many of you are coming from Vibrant / Galaxy S 4G and hence would like to buy Tmobile G2X unlocked.
I thought it'd be a good idea to have a thread where we have consolidated discounted unlocked pricing options.
Currently it seems $529 - $540 is the unlocked price. Please post if you know any better pricing....
$499 from T-Mobile. Why would you spend anymore than that somewhere else?

I think that T-mobile price is off contract, not unlocked. Please correct me if I am wrong as i too am looking to pick one up, but live in another country so must get it unlocked as well.
I was always under the impression that if you bought a phone off contract then all you had to do was call T-Mobile and ask for the unlock code. I don't think they require you to be a T-Mobile customer. After all it's your device.
Word around the campfire is that T-Mobile isn't selling this phone to non-contracted customers, and if you contact them with the device and request a code they'll deny it. It's a t-mobile exclusive phone in the US, and they won't offer up unlock codes unless you're a customer and wait the 90 days, or the phone is no longer exclusive.
This is all rumor so far, but here was a T-Mo sales rep in another thread that said they were given new directives regarding selling off contract phones to non-Tmo customers.

So your telling me, since I am no longer under contract with T-Mobile, I can't walk into there store and purchase the device for $499 retail even though I am a T-Mobile customer?
I would hold off on buying this for AT&T (or other providers) until we get clarification on what bands it supports and how to enable them if needed.

I just tried it online and they are allowing me to buy the phone off contract as well. cancelled at the last minute cause I already have my on-contract g2x
@Divinedark, you heard the wrong thing through the wrong grapevine. Sorry bro. Your inside source has been proved wrong. I also called T-Mobile and told them I was interested in buying a G2x off contract but only if I were able to get a unlock code for it right away. They said it wouldn't be a problem. I guess you should just go ahead and remove your post since it's false information.

They did it for me and my Vibrant back in July and I wasn't on contract. Did you word this wrong because if you purchase a phone through a upgrade and are under a contract they will not give you a unlock code since you do not own the device. If you aren't under contract and you purchase the device at retail price then it's all yours and they will give you a unlock code. Whether or not you have to be a T-Mobile customer is a different story.
If you have to be a customer then just purchase the phone retail and sign up for the cheapest plan possible. Ask for a unlock code which you will get within 3 days and then just cancel your account.
I did not word this wrong. I was very explicit about wanting to buy the phone, without contract, and that I am NOT a customer of T-Mobile. Every answer I received was very candid about the fact that their policy is to not give out codes and that they do have a SIM subsidy program for those who are T-Mobile customers. I will add with a grain of salt one might get lucky when they call up customer support and find a representative who does not know the current policy and unlocks your phone. Not likely.
I am going to take a chance and go through a website and pay $14.99 for it.
Customer support does not provide unlock codes. The Sim Unlock Team does.

They have always unlocked devices for me but I guess it's because I am a T-Mobile customer, just not locked into a contract with them. My Vibrant being my most recent device I got unlocked. Just called customer service and they emailed me the unlock code 2 to 3 days later.
Thats kind of childish on there part. There not losing any money by giving you the code since you paid for the device in full. They may have made a little bit of money off you actually. I'm sure they didn't have to pay LG $499. Like you said, your best bet is to pay a 3rd party $15 for a unlock code.
I got great news I just called T Mobile and was upfront of what I was wanting to do with the purchase of the G2x and they said as long as you buy it at full retail price, they said they have the options under their policy to give out unlock phone code at the moment of purchase. So I'm thinking of buying the G2x and than buy a phone on contract with AT&T that has good resale value and sell it, and in a way AT&T is subsidizing my G2x.

If you don't currently have a contract with AT&T, one has to ask. Why the hell would you want to go into one? If your in a area where T-Mobile has service, they have less dropped calls and faster download speeds. Every phone I get through T-Mobile has been better call wise and data wise than my Wifes iPhone with AT&T. We live North of Baltimore.

I stated nothing as fact... bro... I was merely stating that in another of the AT&T threads, someone who said they worked for T-Mo was told just what I wrote. It seems very location specific. Some people are being told they will sell them one, some are saying that they'll sell it, but not give them the code, and some are saying they're not being offered either. So, there you go... bro...
Must be something new...
It has always been T-Mobile's policy to only give unlock codes to current customers who have been with them for at least 90 days and have a good pay history. This is something new if they now allow non customers to buy a device and obtain a lock code. Since the unlock codes must come from LG, I highly doubt anyone would be provided with a unlock code on the day they buy the phone.
Could be some CS reps looking to up their quotas by giving less than accurate information. Get it in writing before you buy.

AT&T wont sell me phone off contract.. At HB store

AT&T wont sell me phone off contract.. At HB store, are most of you upgrading?...
Order online. Tax is a lot if you're paying the full price.
I'd imagine most are upgrading. Getting an unsubsidized phone in the US is a waste of money.
AT&T sold me mine off contract they didnt even hesitate. I have been told that some stores cannot sell phones outright. I would try another store.
Yeah. So debating... Rogers on ebay which is sim unlocked and unlock bootloader for about $700. While AT&T is around $600 locked to AT&T and locked bootloader... Until the petition ..... Then maybe they will do it later.. So For for an extra $100 bucks... You get sim unlock and bootloader.....
Many non-corporate stores won't sell them off contract.
These vendors only make money from contracts. Even at AT&T they won't make money selling you the device off contract, but thankfully they allow it.

most likely this is the case, its all about profit and non corporate stores are known to do that
(or pretend to be out of stock for people upgrading)
call a corporate store and talk to a manger and complain (and you may get a discount)
a friend of mine did and he got $100 off
or buy it online and prob wont have to pay sales tax

a corporate store won't give you a discount because a non-corporate store wouldn't sell you the phone out right.
the non-corp ones have every right to structure their sales like that.
I'd buy the Rogers version since then you can get unlimited data for $10/15 so you will get your $100 back that way. Plus you can unlock the bootloader and don't have an ugly att logo on the top... But if you don't want to do that I'll sell you my One X that I just got today from Amazon Wireless for $550 + Shipping via Amazon Payments then I'll go buy a Rogers version... ;-)

it mayof been two corporate stores not really sure.
And id say it depends on which type (authorized reseller vs almost corporate but not)
I worked at the second type (tmobile though) and although we would refuse to sell phones out of contract at times we could of gotten into trouble if it had been reported through corporate.

where should i buy the pixel from?

Hi, does any one knows if the retail price version of the google pixel that best buy are selling is unlocked? the price tag is 699$ can i purchase it and activate without verizon sim card? or would it be available in the 20th in walmart and target?
thanks
thanks.
Because it's listed as the Verizon version, I would bet that it will be the permanently locked bootloader version that Verizon is going to sell in their stores but I have not seen any official statement on that being true. I would theorize that if it does end up being sold at Target or Walmart, it will be Verizon version as well as neither store probably sells $650 unlocked, non-carrier branded phones. If it is the Verizon version, you'll also be stuck with waiting for Verizon to send out any sort of update that isn't a monthly security patch; this has been reported by a few different news outlets (including XDA I believe).
If it's listed at $699, that is $50 more than on the Google Store (store.google.com) and with the possibility of a perma-locked bootloader I'm not sure why you would want to buy it from BestBuy. If you are willing to pay full price for it, just buy it directly from Google. I'd stay away from any version that has the word Verizon anywhere near it.

I think a lot of people are looking for another source to get their Pixel from as Google appears to be out of stock on the most popular choices. I am personally doing the same thing until either I find a retailer with a Google version or Google has them back in stock.
That's incredibly disappointing. I'm surprised that Verizon would still have control over the OTA updates even if one was to use a Best Buy-bought Pixel for the sole purpose of having it on another carrier.
Google smartphone Storage US Price
Google Pixel 32GB $649
Google Pixel 128GB $749
Google Pixel XL 32GB $769
Google Pixel XL 128GB $869
Verizon will not delay updates. http://phandroid.com/2016/10/12/verizon-pixel-updates-simultaneously/
So if you don't care about rooting your phone then it makes sense to get one from best buy to use on Verizon because they offer the best deal. ($100 gift card and chromecast)
I'm glad I got a blue one from Verizon because Best Buy and Google have been sold out of that color ever since it launched.
Thanks for the response, I wanted to buy it from Google but the delivery time is 5-6 weeks and I'm only on the states for the next 3 weeks, as far as I know verizon version is unlocked which means that I can use it with any carrier I want.

Pay Monthly deals in UK

I really really want this phone but am looking for a pay monthly contract rather than buying the phone up front. Is anyone aware of any UK phone networks offering it on a pay monthly deal?
Not that Ive seen, only way to buy appears to be from the Asus UK store sadly
Not seen it on any shops besides ASUS UK. May be worth emailing your network or shop you want to have the contract with. I don't think there will be any available before mid-June since that's when the ASUS shop (supposedly) gets stock, but they may have an idea. Can't imagine it'll be too far behind them.
