always on screen schedule - Huawei Watch 2

anyone know a way to set a schedule for always on display to toggle on/off based on day/time. I did some searches for tasker but couldn't find anything. I thought it went off when off risk but that doesn't seem to be the case.

The screen should turn off after 30 mins when left on your table.

Looking for a simple brightness managment app

All I want is an application that can switch between Auto Brightness to Minimum setting (OS specified or lower) at specific time, time when it gets dark. or maybe it can choose the time automatically based on dusk and dawn.
I noticed that Auto setting NEVER drops to minimal setting for some reason......

There is an app called Timeriffic (I think that's how it's spelled). You just input the settings into the app and at that predetermined time, it will adjust settings (including brightness, not sure about auto brightness).
I have it set so that at a certain time (when I leave the house) it will turn off the wifi, turn on vibrate, etc...
But if you fall out of your routine, you kind of go bonkers because you forget that you have timeriffic set and can't figure out why the wifi turned off, etc... LoL!
How about just using Power Widget when to switch between auto/minimal when you realize the screen is too bright?
Thanks. Timeriffic gets the job done, but i wish it would support auto brightness. using power widget doesnt work for me because if i forget to switch back to auto setting, in sunny day i cant even see the screen at all and have to find shaded area just to switch back

Yeah I've had to learn where certain objects are on my home screen.

Haptic feedback is my friend
It's a shame, OLEDs are so much better than TFT screens for battery conservation but they suck in the light, you know, outside, the one place you are most likely to use your MOBILE phone. Ah well, it performs almost as well as the iPhone when the N1's on full brightness. I held it next to my friend's 3GS, but thinking about it forgot to check what brightness hers was on... DOH.
I think they've corrected it now though, with newer designs.
There is also an app that is called auto bright and it can be made into a homescreen shortcut and is basically a macro that turns on autobright. I put it next to my power control widget so in the case where I need to switch brightness manually I can easily switch back. FYI Froyo's power widget has added the autobright setting so soon as a stable version of Froyo comes out this will be a mute point.

Setting Profiles does the same as well, and a whole lot more.
App I use is called, dimmer. It has to manually be switch.

OP pointed out (correctly) the Automatic Brightness setting will never automatically set the brightness to the minimum point (that is, as low as you could set it manually). I can confirm that, though Froyo does include the Automatic option on the power control widget, it still won't go all the way dim. It seems rather silly that the Automatic range doesn't go all the way down.
Also, the word you're after is "moot", not mute.

yes. thats correct. if auto setting would go all the way down, then i would not need any 3rd party software to begin with. i really wish we could adjust the range and sensitivity of the sensor
ps. developer of Timeriffic said that its not possible to add Auto Brightness setting to his app because there is no API for that and the only way around is to hack it.

[APP] Tasker

I use Tasker for automating a lot of redundant tasks on my phone. I figured I would post a couple I'm using with hope that others will share with me some stuff they use it for.
action: Docked.
Tasks done when docked: Bluetooth on, wifi off, gps on, auto brightness set off [if time < 1800, Display Brightness set to 255 if time < 1800, pandora set on.
exit tasks: Bluetooth off, auto brightness on if TIME < 1800, pandora set off, gps off.
Action open Application Maps/Nav or any gps app.
Tasks done: GPS on
exit tasks done: GPS off.
action: phone face down
Tasks done: airplane mode on if time < 2200, all sounds off except for alarm
exit tasks: airplane mode off, all sounds revert to previous settings.
these 3 i use, if you have any others let me know. If you need help with the program let me know too.
here is where you can grab tasker.
http://tasker.dinglisch.net/
Sounds something that I would definitly use. I beleive its a paid app, but still worth it. I'll look into it. Does it have settings for wifi e.g.- 1 touch WIFI on, because i'm using the stock wifi on/of toggle but I then have to go into wifi settings and actually see my phone connecting to my network in order for i to work and turn on.... ??????
Yeah there are settings for connecting to wifi. Mine does it automatically when I get home based on the gps. Works most of the time, had to turn it on manually a couple times because the gps wasn't on.

How do you set up an OR for the app launch context? I'm trying to get it to turn on GPS when I open Maps, Foursquare, Yelp, or Places, but it doesn't let me multi-select apps and if I add a context, Application isn't there.
Make it separate tasks.
make 1 for each app.
Foursquare - turn on gps. Turn off gps when exit.
Ect.
also, I guess there is a wiki with a bunch of samples I guess. I'm out at a remote beach on northern oahu right now, but if someone doesn't post it before me I'll post the link when I get home.

Yeah, that's what I've been doing. It'd just be nice if you could have conditionals in the context. IF Yelp OR Foursquare OR Maps OR Places then ...
Post over there and make a feature request, they should put that in I agree .
Just bought Tasker and so far I like it. Can't seem to figure out how to do the following task though.
I need to set to static IP when on a certain wifi connection. I already have the IP set and the only thing that will need to be done is to toggle the static IP checkbox in the advanced setting of wifi. I know how to specify the wifi network but how can I make it toggle that checkbox/setting?
Thanks for any info.
i made a simple widget to toggle the screen brightness to two preset brightens for inside and direct sunlight.
i could not find an app that let me choose the brightness, they either made it full dark/bright.
i can't work out however to toggle a different widget icon to indicate on/off...
i've tried set icon but with no luck
its not really needed but would be good to have/know for future apps
also, can anyone explain how the HTTP (get info from net) works?
i want to try a few things but not really sure how it works
This app is the best app on the market... hands down. #Win

You should use "wifi near" as a condition instead of "gps". That way it just toggles you wifi on and off periodically and if it is near... it will connect.

I also have a profile that texts my gf a random message at a random time that is between 7:30 am and 7:40 am (so she don't think it's automated lol) every morning. I got that idea from LexusBrian
Again.. great app!
Here was I have got going on with tasker.
Car dock: gps on, bluetooth on, display always on, notification volume off. On exit they all do the opposite.
When home: wifi on. Exit wifi goes off.
At work: phone goes to vibrate for everything.
10pm to 545am: phone goes quiet.
I second it a best app ever. Wifi, gps, and bluetooth are never on when I don't need em. Come on you can't beat that. What a battery saver.

Tasker is an incredibly handy utility.
Here's the profiles I use:
GPSonForLocationApps - I think this one has already been covered by this thread.
WifiOnAtHome - I use the wifi near option... although I think it's causing issues with my 3G signal... it will occasionally turn on wifi to check if I'm at home which seems to turn off 3G. Still playing with this one.
LowVolumeDuringWorkHours - sets various volumes appropriately so I can still hear stuff but doesn't annoy folks working near by. I turn this on/off based on day of week and time of day. Upon exiting this profile it returns my volumes back to normal.
NoficationsOffAtNight - I turn off notifications at night and if my phone is plugged into AC.
SilentForMeetings - if I have a calendar entry where I'm marked as busy it turns my phone to silent mode.
Openwatch?
Hello
I am new to Tasker, and I'm starting to understand exactly how much you can do. Uses open watch a lot and have done a lot of settings to make my clock better. But I wonder if I can get messages from one app to my watch. The app is an ice hockey results service. And each time it becomes a goal, I get it as income message in the status bar. But can I get the message in the clock at the same time? Right now I just get a message in the watch which I've written, but would like it says in the status bar so you do not I pick up the phone to look at the result. Is there perhaps a few codes to enter, instead of my message is? Hope you understand me?
I have mine set to enable WiFi when I connect to a certain cell tower. Keeps the drain on my batter to nothing more than it was already at, and GPS is only enabled for about 5 minutes to and from the house. I'm sure the drain for that combined 10 minutes is much less than periodically checking the GPS or if a network is near.
I am turning off gps when I get to my home cell tower and turning on my wifi at the same time.
For my multimedia apps like pandora, I have my screen stay on when plugged to a power source.

Well it never seems to change. To confirm I put it on the lowest and then on auto, it stayed on the lowest. I then tried putting it on the highest setting and then putting it on auto but again it stayed the same.
Surprised it took me so long to realise..
It takes an average reading of the light it senses over about 30-45 seconds when it's on auto and responds accordingly on mine. To check yours put a torch on over the sensor for about 30 secs and if nothing changes yours definitely isnt working properly. However I normally have it set to a manual amount instead of auto to save on battery etc.
Edit: Just tested again with a torch and this time it took 45 seconds to change... odd.
Where is the sensor located? Does it use the front camera?

It's the thing just over an inch to the left of the front camera.
I see it now. I put a bright LED flashlight over it while in a darkened room for a couple minutes and the screen did not change brightness. However, it does appear to have an IR filter over it, so maybe it is mostly sensitive

Oops not used to the kb, sensitive to Sunlight.

With it on full brightness (before changing to auto) I had my finger over it for a while but it didn't change. Then I left it on full brightness for about 10 minutes in a fairly dim room and no change either.
Just tried with an led torch here as well and it did sod all this time. Nothing changed. Try with another light source if you get the chance. The update rate on the auto setting is too slow really tbh. There are loads of apps in the market to test the sensors too btw.
@Case0
If it's not on auto mode it wont change at all.
Possibly it only checks at certain times, such as when an app starts. I bet that it reads IR so only certain light sources might work.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
I installed a couple of sensor tester applications, and none of them can report a value from the sensor. Sensor list 2.1 detects the sensor as a lite-on al3000a ambient light sensor, but no value is returned. Not sure if this means that it is not working, or if these apps just can't read that particular sensor.
It doesn't work for me either, although I haven't tested it since the new firmware upgrade. Maybe we have a bad batch.
I never was a fan from autobrightness. I always set it to middle.
Until I got a Nexus S and noticed how awesome it is that it changes the brightness, since otherwise you can not read the display outside. It also changes instantly.
Try this. Download and install Advanced Task Killer, then Sensor Test by Atmoworker. Kill all processes to make sure the sensor isnt in use by something else. Then run the sensor test. If your value for the light meter doent move, then there's something wrong for sure, or it's in use by some process that wasnt killed by the task killer.

OK. That app does seem to read the sensor, and it does change. I didn't have to kill any tasks for it to work. It gives three readings labeled 0, 1 and 2.
0 changes from 1.0 to over 100 outside. Probably some log scale. 1 changes from -27 to over 100. 2 sits at a very small number, about 10^-45
So the sensor does work, the tablet just isn't using it properly it appears. Or something.
Ok well yeah sounds like it does work, just doesnt function the way you want it to. There are lots of apps to deal with screen brightness on the market, some free, some not so. And then there are also a few which lets it change using the camera instead of light meter. Here's a link to one to show you what I mean. https://market.android.com/details?id=org.pbxes.light2&feature=search_result I'm sure there are free versions available if you do choose this option. Good luck in finding one you like.
Well, if by "just doesnt function the way you want it to" you mean does not do anything at all ever no matter what, then yeah, it isn't working the way I want it to. Thanks for the tip, I'll see if I can find an app that works.
OK, auto brightness DOES work. I spent some time messing with it to figure it out. The auto routine started working after I did the 10 second power button off on my machine.
1) The level that you set with the slider becomes the minimum level for the brightness under auto. That's also why I didn't think that it was working, I had brightness up all the way.
2) The auto routine will adjust brightness UP within a short period of time, 10-15 seconds, if you move into bright light.
3) The routine will NOT adjust brightness down (you move into dim light) except at three points a) right before the screen saver kicks in (goes blank) or b) right after returning from the screen saver. c) you power cycle the tablet.
This means that it is quick to respond to ambient light and increase brightness, but if you have your screen timeout set long, or you keep using the tablet, the brightness will be very reluctant to adjust down. The brightness will never be adjusted lower than you set with the slider though, but it can go up all the way.

[Q] Ways to use torch with minimal battery use

So this is a 3 part question on Torches
1) Is there any way to operate torch when your phone is off, basically to be able to use your torch while your phone is off, so that your torch is the only thing utilising battery and not the system, this for incase of emergency. If it is not possible to use the torch when your phone is off, can we use it when the phone is in deep sleep? basically my target it to use the phone as a torch while using the most minimal amount of battery.
2) On Xposed there is an app by wanam - Xposed torch, it allows you to use the torch without turning on the screen, now is this particular app waking the device from sleep or not?
3) For worst cases scenarios can we flash a system which only allows the torch to run via the buttons and nothing else, like this can be used via multirom and save battery

Do you need it to use the camera flash? In other words, does it need to be as bright as possible or will any light do? Best bet is to just use the LCD backlight with an all white screen. You could leave the screen on in this way for over 20 hours.

lol, wont even be close to 20 hours.
and op, in order for you to use the led for a flashlight, even with the screen off, it will never go into deep sleep. it will be awake the whole time. in order for the device to run an app, a system or user app, you need the device awake. it will only go into deep sleep when nothing is active.

I've seen it twice now, though I'm unable to find the links. One fellow on Reddit and another here on these forums. Both were well on their way to over 20 hours Screen on Time with little to no usage. Seeing as I've gotten over 8 myself with actual (albeit light) usage, it wasn't very shocking to see.
The screen with zero interaction uses very little battery due to Panel Self Refresh.

i still dont believe it. to get 20 hours, you would have to do more to your system than just turn on the screen. there are mods that reduce the brightness of the screen even lower than it normally goes, even to a point where its on, but you cant really tell that it is, its so dim. using that, maybe you can see 20 hours.

Sleep mode app/widget?

Is there any way to quickly set the phone to do not disturb, switch the wake up gesture to off? I like the sleep tracking feature of the watch, but I hate getting alerts in the middle of the night, or when my watch keeps waking up. It would be nice to have a single switch or those controls on one screen to put the watch in sleep mode basically.
I use quiet hours... Don't know if such app exists ...

There is an app in the Galaxy Apps called Theater Mode. it is a widget. one tap and the screen goes very dim and is muted. it cannot turn off the AOD (Gear won't allow it). You can also set a schedule for Do Not Disturb (settings > device > do not disturb) so it turns on/off automatically on your schedule...
Can't you swipe down from the top and hit do not disturb?

wasn't aware of scheduling feature, so i'll look at that. The other issue with sleeping with the watch on is the screen lighting up. I have to also go in and turn off the auto wake up gesture, but even that doesn't prevent the bezel from turning and lighting up the screen.
So I can manually mitigate most of these issues, but it's several manual steps every night, then again every morning. Just seems like a small fix that could make it a much more convenient thing to use.
Silly but useful solution: I wear a wrist sweatband over it at night. I don't even notice it and it saves me an elbow jab from my wife in the middle of the night.

I use the Theater mode app (very dim screen) and turn AOD off... if the screen does happen to come on during the night due to bezel movement, it is not even noticable (at least for my wife and me!)
Theater Mode is great but does that also Mute the S3? If so it is not a solution for people, like me, that use the watch as an alarm clock.
