Is that no more Scene mode in Manual? - Sony Xperia XZs Questions & Answers

It looks like no more scene selection(for examples.... fireworks, night) in manual mode. Is it true?

Yup, no more options for scenes.

Shooting in the dark?

Has anyone else noticed that the camera is pretty useless when shooting in the dark?
The flash does not come on before the picture is taken, so the camera does not have time to focus. All the pictures are pointing in the wrong direction as I cannot see what it's pointing at and are totally out of focus.
Not impressed. Am I missing something?

As a workaround, you can shoot stills while shooting video with the flash on.

Yes, for example a light flash in order to focus before full power flash and shot.
with other phone I have turned on the flashlight and left it on before turning on the camera. That works fine.

couldn't resist!
I hope they will put an option to turn on flash before taking a photo. I'm using CameraFX just for that, for the time being :cyclops:

camera settings question

really quick, where is the image stabilization feature, ISO, and the white balance options? I can't find these 3 for the life of me!:silly:

I know. Pretty stupid if you ask me. This camera doesn't have the settings the G2 has. Not sure why.

LG opted to have less bloat so that's why. I think the camera is fine how it is, although options are always good.

Try a third party camera app with those settings, it's possible they're there just the stock app doesn't have control of them

good point, any recos?
Sorry no, as long as it goes click when it's supposed to that's a good enough camera for me lol
But I've seen them, there are more advanced camera apps in the play store, perhaps Google it?

Try this ... A Better Camera
I also recommend A Better Camera. It's what I use and I can confirm that even the free version allows you to control the ISO and White Balance settings (along with lots of other things too). I haven't seen anything about the stabilization settings, so I think you are out of luck there.
PS - you can change the stock action of holding down the volume down key when the screen is off and it can start A Better Camera instead of the stock camera if you want. That's what I do. I think I'm doing this with the G3 TweaksBox xposed module.
Image stabilization.... it's hardware, you can never turn it off

Try the stock Google Camera. I did several shots using it and the stock and favored the Google shots over the stock in 2 of the 4 comparisons. It doesn't have a lot of settings but ISO is one of them.

Underwater pictures

Does anyone has successfully shot pictures underwater? I tried today on a natural river but my screen went crazy just being touched by the water. Any thoughts?

It is really annoying the need of an external app for achieve this. I use to have the Xperia Z1 and it never happened. Thanks anyway for the tip.

It used to be embedded in the camera app after small apps were taken away but it looks like that isnt the case anymore. I miss small apps. It was basically pip that we have in oreo but way better because the windows could be hidden and resized.

Portrait

Has anyone figured out how to add portrait to a previous photo? This was advertised with the 4a, but I can't figure out how to do it.

Well in order to do so, that the picture obviously needs to be taken in portrait mode. After that you can adjust the background blur in google photos. I'm assuming that's what you meant

AHHH, I see now what they are talking about, I don't think it was clear that the original needed to be in portrait mode. Thanks
No. You can do it. Just open it in Google photos, go to edit and crank the blur up all you want. Just tried and it works.
