BTW how to insert pics to xda?

Can you post more sample images with distortion?

It looks like a faulty hardware to me.
There is no way a perfect working device would distort like that!

Omg I didn't realize this until I saw this post, yeah I have the same problem too but seems a bit slightly better than u

Haha I have posted it here at XZs section

OMG
Same as you ,even worse。。。

What a shame
I have this problem too, XZs's distortion is much worse than my Xperia Z3, straight line will be twisted as 'w' .

I was trying to check for any issues regarding heating and freezing apps, and I saw this post. I found out that I have the same issue. The skews are killing me. I cant unsee it now.

Same with my phone too but its not that easy for me to detect. It kind of gives a slight reverse fisheye effect(if that's even a thing). But if I never came across this thread I would've never noticed. Hopefully this can be fixed. If not, then I'm screwed. It's a shame that the camera was one of the only things updated from the XZ yet it's faulty. Smh

Same as you ,even worse

Crap... I was about to buy this phone but I'm afraid of this.. once you see it, can't be unseen...

Have you tried video mode? It looks the way better, those distortions all gone.
你试试摄影模式,貌似在摄影模式下显示的是正常的,起码我分辨不出来了。

Thanks for pointing out, same as I, no distortion found under video mode.
Seems it's software issue. Hope it get fixed in the next update

I've yet to investigate with my own XZs but this looks like barrel distortion to me and is perfectly normal on a 25mm wide-angle lens. (funnily the XZ is rated wider at 24mm?)

Re: XZP camera has serious distortion issue
Kindly read the posts here. It's normal for the lens, but it's not normal for a high end smartphone with the problematic lens correction profile.

No, I haven't face any type of distortion issue, every thing works very smoothly for me.

I've been prepping for this thing to get into my hands by shooting in a few places that I usually find myself in, some being really low light. (Jazz clubs and art museums with fragile items.) I've shot in these spaces with every camera I've ever owned. (FF DSLR's on down to cellphones)

Up to you . Im going to keep mine and see if it gets rooted. If it doesn't... well, i might keep it quite a few month. after all i only paid 600+ for it, not 800+
I think that the problem relies on the ISO i was using. Let me show you all 3 pictures and zoom them in , you will see that the noise significantly diminishes .
Oh man. Looks like I need to get a case.
Camera on auto mode is AWFUL at any kind of action shots. In a CrossFit competition this weekend and the camera couldn't keep up at all and most shots are BLURRY. I ddn't go into manual mode cuz i figured the phone would keep up, wish i would have viewed the pics before. Disappointed big time with this.

I looked in the modes after the fact and did not see one, may need to find an alternative cam app. Problem was I know exposure and all that but when competing i gave it to my husband to take pics., i could have made corrections shooting manual but honestly, didn't expect to have to do so.

I actually really like how that looks. It's got a quality I really like to work with. Once I actually get my phone in hand and start playing with it, I'll see if I have the same type of noise. If it's the same and I can figure out a workflow on mobile to recreate what I used to do with my old Nikon D80, I'll share the workflow to make that kind of noise work for you.

Check the last post on page number one. There you will see that the noise was reduced alot from left to right. The first one is the same one i posted first, the second and third i lowered the iso and adjusted the aperture. Now, remember, i was using manual mode, if it had been in automatically, maybe it would have adjusted everything itself and reduce the noise on its own.

I'm actually very keen to play with the noise generated off of this sensor. Something to note is that on the Nexus 6, engaging HDR in the Google Camera app cleaned up a lot of the noise from that sensor's files and made them quite usable so I'll be looking into that too. But yeah, if the noise has certain characteristics, it can make for some good photos.
A couple of shots of a photogenic spider from yesterday. Between Google's compression during upload, then redownloading and uploading to XDA only to be compressed again, I think they still look pretty good.
Anybody know how to embed links straight from Google Photos?
On action shots , did you use burst mode. The LG G5, LG G4 and V10 were brilliant using this method. Another option is record in 4K and then extract 8mp stills from the video.

I really hope they are equal as far as battery life, I really don't want a phone that's taller than ip7, the regular s8 looks to be an ideal size but I love how I can use my s7e one handed
Two things really concern me about s8+
i. height vs s7e
ii. rear fingerprint reader next to cam
I could drop down to an s8 to reduce the height and the screen would still be larger than the s7e, but then the battery is quite a bit smaller (3,000mAh) and still stuck with the odd fingerprint reader placement.
I'll wait for early review but seriously thinking about G6.
These photos might help to compare :

I'm concerned about the fingerprint reader placement too... I was hoping they could add the fingerprint reader directly on the display, but I'm sure they'll keep this new feature for the Galax Note 8...
But if they have improved their iris scanner or also added 3D face recognition (rumors), the fingerprint scanner won't be necessary
I think I'll buy the S8 because I really love it's design, but I'll wait the official announce to see what's new before deciding to sell my S7e
---------- Post added at 08:35 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:34 PM ----------
Btw, there is one more camera/scanner in front of the phone, it might be the new 3D face recognition
I am afraid of greedy Samsung!
after last year problems they may be become greedy to put lots of new thing to phone! and make new problem! all optimization since galaxy s6 may go away!

I think the dimensions of the S8 look ridiculous. Narrow and tall strange looking thing. My concern was battery life and size of the S8+ but after seeing what they're going to cost in the UK, Samsung can keep their S8 with pleasure. The massive price hike reeks of them trying to claw back some of the money they lost with the Note7 debacle.
An interesting comparison to show the difference in 18:9 versus 16:9
Here are photos comparing the HTC U Ultra to the LG G6, both are 5.7" phones.
LG G6: 86.5cm²
HTC U Ultra: 90.2cm² (not including the second screen)
(And for good measure let's throw in the Nexus 6P: 90.7cm²)

What are the chances of finding a VR headset for this device? Did anyone ever find one for the Mi Max 2? That would probably work...
I'm going to order one of these to see if it will work:

Holy crap that looks great, and its so cheap, can you give any more info? You say it fits but does it fit perfectly? How did you get on with the remote?
It does fit...barely! The unit seems ok, has a nice look to it, seals well against the phone with foam seals, etc. The remote however...so, there is no "button" (like cardboard has...) on the unit so you have to use the "remote"(I put that in quotes as this thing is terrible), but it's been nothing but terrible so far so I'm not sure if it's gonna work properly at all. Doesn't seem to be too much in the way of programming, but I was just jumping in without reading anything. Didn't have much time to mess with it, but maybe I'll take another look at the end of this week.

Interesting thanks, yeah the Amazon reviews dont sound so good when you dig in a bit, I think Ill chance it for $16, it used to cost five or six times that, please post any other thoughts you have, specifically is it focused properly? As in is the phone the right size for the lenses?
Mi Max 3 fits perfectly on Fiit VR 2S without a case.

focus is good, but not individually adjustable on the lenses. I can't get the remote to work properly, and I have an issue with getting the thing on. The curve on the "mask" is too great and the edges hit my face well before the middle does, fits very tight on my face. I'm going to return for a refund...

Thanks for that, how are you finding it? Can you focus/adjust etc, is it cutting off any of the screen?
Is the Mi Max 3 too big for it even though it fits or does it work well?

They’re both pretty accurate honestly, neither captured it perfectly and it also carried slightly when I was looking at both pictures on each phone due to the screen having different characteristics. All that said, iPhone came out more accurately on this one.

Sadly, this is all I have right now. Wanted to test low light so just took a picture of my pixel boxes with the light off and just the computer screen glare...
Just got my new charging station setup up at work and had to snap a quick pic. Changed the aspect ration to 16x9 and threw one of the stock photo app filters to something that fits my tonal taste better but otherwise untouched. I'm really excited about my charging station though!
I love the quality but I'm disappointed they did away with numerical zoom level on the slider. I like to know how much I've zoomed (1.3, 2X etc)
Here is the first one I took out of the box
Pictures in order
1: iPhone XS Max w/ Flash
2: iPhone XS Max w/o Flash
3: Pixel 3 XL w/ Flash
4: Pixel 3 XL w/o Flash
I’ll reserve my comments for the most part though I think one is a clear winner. Disappointed with the other.

Took this to see how well it does at a concert. This is also using the zoom
Here's a few I just took at 3:00 am while walking my dog.
All the way zoomed in.
Impressed with the low light performance so far.
Does it happen to anyone? When I tske close up pictures, it struggled to focus far more than my old pixel 2xl.
Impressed with the zoom quality too. This is zoomed in pretty far and still looks pretty crisp.

Bad quality glass cover

Today i found the hard way about how cheap the back glass is.
There were parts where there was visible gap and lots of dust inside and today while the phone heated up...the glass came off...
Thinking about simply putting it back with some double sided tape....or making clear back

Do the cameras wiggle a little bit ? Can you check if they have OIS, because there is conflicting info about this. Although I suppose if Xiaomi's not flaunting it, there's no OIS. But if you could still check, that'd be great !

Is this the zoom edition ? I know there are at least two levels of wiggling : autofocus, which should be just moving the lens closer or further from the sensor, and OIS, moving the sensor/lenses parallel to the plane of the phone, at least.

Do you need the plastic cover over the motherboard, or could we do without ?

It's normal Poco f2 Pro, and I think it's moving the whole lens.
I think you can do it without the plastic cover...I just removed some stickers...didn't want to mess with it much.
