How to root LG Urbane 2nd edition ? - LG Watch Urbane 2

Hello,
I have been struggling with rooting LG Urbane 2nd edition.
Did anyone make it ?
Thanks,
Ranchu

I'll probably try in next few days I'll post back. Non

I have tried Rooting both Android 1.5 and 2.0 on the watch urbane 2nd edition and have had no luck.
So far the biggest issue i'm having is getting around the Secure Boot feature of the bootloader.
Even tho the watch can be OEM unlocked so you can flash signed images it wont let you install a custom one.
I have tried installing TWRP (Bass) and as the watch boot's the bootlaoder detects that it's not signed and replaces it with the stock recovery image.
If we can find the Fastboot or ADB command to disable the Secure-Boot feature of the LG Urbane 2nd edition watch then we might be able to root it or at least get a TWRP working on it so we can use the ADB in recovery mode.

No,
Secure Boot feature is still blocking the custom recovery.
I can not find a command to disable the secure boot feature in the bootlaoder.
If anybody can give me a list of commands to try similar to the S-off command it might help.
But until then there is little chance we can get a custom recovery onto the watch.

I played with AW2 DP and I saw you could elect what happens when you press the two up/down type buttons, so you don't need to remap (probably) via root.
If you're impatient to wait for AW2 you can use the DP and then flash it back to 1.5, all the links are here
It points you to downloads which I mention here
Flashing is easy, fast and I did it twice up to AW2 DP and back to AW1.5 twice over at times I didn't need the UB2 much. I own two AW devices (SW3) paired to my phone.
If it does prove a long wait for AW2 official then its worthwhile at times you don't need the UB2 much, to use the AW2 DP as EVERYTHING has changed, its TOTALLY different use of buttons and interface, it is so different if you received the update and let it go, you'd be struggling for some time trying to figure it out.
So in your case for button remapping, give it try, you might then not need root?

yeah, chances are i won't be needing the root that much, after all, I want to preserve the ability to use android pay. I bought the LG urbane 2nd edition for a couple of reasons: 1) I've stopped following Samsung for quite a while already (after all those failures and restrictions being applied), 2) as many smartwatches, i can use it for fitness ( i know the LG urbane 2nd edition is not the best out there for fitness purposes but hey maybe they fix that, or maybe mine turns out to be exact), 3) the urbane 2nd edition is one among few with sim card slot to use as an independent device (i might not use it for a while but ... I am a guy who love to have options even if i dont use them often). There are a couple of other reasons but these are good reasons. :good:

We got the UB2 for similar reasons. I quite like the idea of AP on my wrist and my phone (OnePlus3T) is quite a big item and sometimes just going out with just a watch is good (walking, biking). I'm sure it will end up pretty good, in a few months. Considering all of its specs, UB2 is a good price around $170-$190 in new/mint condition.
Moving up from the SW3 the big screen makes notification filtering easier.

Hello Sir.
Seems like you`ve got flash back procedure and recovery from AW2 development to AW 1.5 original? Can i have couple of questions?
1. The default firmware is also located here here as a Non-preview image (for after testing)? As i understood correctly i used Preview image for testing as a AW2.0 and i did all procedures described. To get back to AW1.5 i need to repeat all procedures except to load Non-preview image (for after testing) Correct?
2. With AW2.0 Development Frimware i tried to install Anroid Pay which is available here in Russia since May 23. Android Pay said that device is corrupted or used with another firmware and could not be installed on the watches. Maybe you know, if i flash back to AW1.5 and reset to firmware setting, will system know that device was unrooted etc? Maybe you have such experience and if the system will complain - there is no reasons for me to flash back to AW1.5
Thanks for help!

I will reply to myself
1. Default firmware is located on the address above. I`m wondering that LG support - does not know this info...
2. Can not proof this information, cause on AW 1.5 cannot install Android Pay as there is no Play Market and Android Pay not presented automatically at watches.
By the way - i checked for new firmware - watches started to download, it was very long time and i leaved my watches for the night and looks like download wasn`t completed or system required my attention and i was asleep Now by checking updates - there is no updates and AW version is still old one Hope that official release will come soon.

Successful root!
I got my LG Urbane 2nd Edition rooted through the typical root method:
Unlock bootloader
Flash factory image
Flash custom recovery
Install SuperSU zip
Below are the files that worked for me:
Non-preview factory image from the Google AW 2.0 DP install guide.
Modified SuperSU zip with busybox from this AW root guide
TWRP compiled for nemo from a link that needs to be higher up on Google.
Remarks:
If you reboot into Android after flashing TWRP but before installing SuperSU, TWRP will get replaced by the stock recovery upon rebooting. Hence you would have to reflash.
If you have problems try adding a cache format and factory reset into the mix.
Secure-Boot off is not needed. According to the Verified Boot flow we may flash freely with an unlocked bootloader.
Cross-posted on Reddit with specifics.

So... does that means that we need to be on the preview version to do that? Meh... That must have been the reason you were able to. Because the preview version will have breaches from were the files would be able to successfully reach. Now, lets see when (if) the Android Wear 2.0 is finally released for the Urbane 2nd edition LTE.

My phone is unlocked bootloader, Magisk, root, Magisk hide, hide SU from Android Pay.
My watch is locked, stock, and it does Android Pay just fine apart from a few seconds lag and it takes a bit more fiddle to find the NFC part of the til than a phone. So it works. I've used it multiple times.

I am in the same situation as you (phone is unlocked bootloader, Magisk, root, Magisk hide, hide SU from Android Pay works on phone), but when I try to use AP on the watch(watch is locked, stock,) it detects root and won't let me add a CC, so my question to you is what AP related files did you hide using Magisk hide on the phone? I am baffled how the watch can detect root, when the phone cannot (AP works on the phone). Ugh!
S8+ (955F) unlocked and locked Urbane 2 with latest 2.0.
thanks,

Have you tried core mode for Magisk

nope - core mode did nothing. I uninstalled AP and reinstalled on watch and it still detects root, even though AP on the phone works flawlessly... Any other ideas?

[Q] "Installation aborted" with 4.4.4 OTA and CWM

I have a rooted Moto G with CWM Recovery and by stupidity installed the 4.4.4 OTA.
CWM aborts the installation, the phone reboots and unfortunately after the ROM is booted it automatically reboots to once more try and install the OTA.
So what are my options now? When a similar thing happened on my Nexus 7, I just flashed the factory image and all was fine. But I'm not sure what image to use for the Moto G. Is there even an official flashable image? If not, which is closest to stock?
Or is it possible to prevent the phone from automatically rebooting? I can access it with adb and have 10-20 seconds after the boot where I could open some apps.

You can find all the stock firmware images here:
http://sbf.droid-developers.org/phone.php?device=14
Flash either with RDS (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2637338) or fastboot (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2542219)
Thanks, there's no 4.4.4 for O2 Germany though. Do I need the right carrier/country? Otherwise I'll just go with 4.4.2
I also found this ROM (it's 4.4.4 despire thread titel). Is there any harm in trying it? I did a backup of the current half-broken system.

You can flash any firmware you want, except the ones for dual sim version (but if you want to be totally safe flash the retail de image). 4.4.4 images aren't available currently, you have simply to restore the stock 4.4.2, flash the stock recovery and take the OTA update.
The ROM you linked is for Moto G dual sim variant (XT1033), flashing it will probably cause a soft brick.
I have the exact same problem.
1. Is there any way to get the phone out of this loop and get it usable again without a computer?
2. How can I flash the rom if the phone keeps doing this?
Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Just follow the fastboot link in the post by Azarielz. WARNING: If you don't want to loose you user data don't do the mfastboot erase userdata step. For me that still removed the reboot loop while retaining my data and apps. I had some problems with the mobile connection though, only after I manually searched for available carriers and pressed "select automatically" it connected. After that no problems.

Just did the same mistake with unlocked & rooted XT1032. I use TWRP and ended up there after every reboot. What I did is use the File Manager under "Advanced" to delete the .zip under /cache. Alternatively you could just wipe cache/ dalvik cache and the update zip should be gone, phone should reboot normally and after app optimization (if you wiped dalvik cache) everything should be back to normal. The first few seconds I got an error when checking for an update, but it went away after a minute.
Not sure if I should go through the trouble of updating to 4.4.4 or wait for Android L that's supposedly coming to the Moto G and X...
I was in the same situation, with bootloader active from cmd:
mfastboot erase cache
or whatever you use
Any improvement?
Hello everyone,
I had the same problem and had to restore a backup.
But can anyone tell us why this happens? Is Google aware of this and is a fix on the way?
I've seen that the update would fix the annoying incompatibility problem with the class 10 SDCards so I'd like to install this update.
I have seen that some of the improvements would also be :
- coloured tiles in the phone dialer
- ability to pause when you record a video
But I can already do that with my phone right now (I'm in 4.4.3 on a Moto G 4G), is this normal ?
Thank you.

That's what I want to know as well. XDA has all these devs and freaks and advanced tutorials but nothing at all for the most simple and popular issues for the average user such as applying an OTA with a rooted device. Apparently it's supposed to work with Phil's Flash Recovery, well it didn't, it gave me the same error message that CWM gave me. Or you're supposed to use "stock recovery", but nobody tells you how to get that in the first place.
...Help?

My guess is that there are just too many versions of phones out there and too many different prerequisites (differences in how the phone was rooted, which apps might have been de-installed, which rom/recovery installed etc) that it is extremely hard and laborious to provide a truly foolproof way. That might be different if there was one standardized manual/tutorial on "Hot to root foolproof and OTA proof for the future" and everyone would follow that precisely.

There is a page that lists all the available stock Moto G Roms in different versions. It would be great if there was such a page for the recovery as well.
If there was a person that decided to take care of all these issues for the Moto G on this forum, he or she could maintain a page with direct links to all the tools, roms and recoveries as well as one general (foolproof) and possibly a handful of alternate ways and fixes.
That is a lot of work, particularly dealing with people who are not willing to read more than one sentence in order to get what they want. And certainly it must be frustrating for a "freak" or dev to encounter us newbies on a daily basis. A 101/primer on what boot/recovery/rom etc is would be helpful - and it does even exist in the wiki. It's that many of us don't find it. That could be changed by a very well thought-out and structured sticky post that provides all the necessary links and knowledge but not too much so that a beginner is frightened by 10 pages of instructions.
But I am certain that a person would be willing to do that if this forum allows it (which I assume is the case). Maybe this person has not been identified yet. Or maybe we have just missed it. I know I will not be this person simply because it would take me a lot of time to gather the necessary knowledge for such a position and right now I have other priorities and I usually use my phone once every 10 days or so.
I am aware that as a user I am not entitled to anyone providing this service. At the same time I am pretty sure that there is someone, maybe even within this great community, who would be willing to do it.
By the way, here is how I ultimately fixed the rooted-Moto G-OTA-update-problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/help/how-to-update-rooted-moto-g-t2828857/post54528345
Thank you for the link and everything you wrote! I was actually thinking the same the last few days... If only I was qualified enough or had the time to gather and polish all the information. I realize I shouldn't have written "Freaks". They're hard-working, skilled individuals that provide us with all this amazing software for us to use free of charge. I just wish they'd put some effort into explaining and laying out the basics etc. for all the "newbs" they encounter each day, because what good do their stuff do when nobody knows how to use it? All those devs that put out kernels and ROMs and then make a thread with changelogs and download links WITHOUT actually saying what they contain and why anyone should use them - I'm looking at you.
I'll go try to get my Moto G to 4.4.4 without losing my stuff using your link now, thanks again!:good:

Nice! I'm sure newcommers will appreciate this post a ton. Just a note, the exploit WILL work on 13a, but it WILL NOT work on 14b. If someone has the 14b firmware, they aren't screwed - simply use the KDZ restore to downgrade to either 13a or 12a. Note: when doing this, data WILL NOT be wiped - your phone will have a ton of force closes. I recommend in this case to try to get to the backup in settings and do a factory reset because the FC's will not let you get to terminal emulator to do the exploit. Factory reset to start fresh, then enable debugging, etc.

Nice, glad to help. Don't forget, your phone will likely go cray with all the force closes so you may want to just factory reset after the KDZ completes. Also, if/when you do that, after it is back to the point where you set the phone up, just get past the initial setup as quickly as possible then put the phone in airplane mode - this will keep it from trying to load the 300 apps as well as prevent Verizon's bloat crap from downloading Candcrush, garbage, [insert unwanted app here], etc. Then just enable usb debugging, install terminal emulator, and you're good to proceed with the exploit.
Personally (and I DO NOT recommend this), I've gone back and forth so many times I've lost count between stock/unroot and root. I am actually able to restore a backup from right after installing TWRP and rebooting by jumping straight into TWRP after installing TWRP image and formatting data. It has worked a number of times now.
I really only need root access for adblocking and ViperAudio.
Thanks again OP!

I just got the phone 3 days ago so a factory reset isnt gonna bother me much. And good idea on the airplane mode wouldny have thought of that.

I subscribed, good stuff! Thanks for putting all that together, I'm sure it will be helpful.
You should make a video or guide about debloating apps, there are plenty out there but sometimes people are really wanting to know about their specific phone model.
Subscribed. Thanks for this.

I think I could use some help. I got all the files flashed and rebooted the phone and now my screen is flickering and freaking out and the phone is constantly vibrating. everything went well through all the steps until I typed it fastboot reboot.
EDIT: Got back into fastboot and retyped typed the last few lines and I think I got that fixed. I think I'm still having a slight problem. Phone vibration wont turn off now while phone is running. ideas?
EDIT: Vibration turns off when I turn the screen off so I guess I got that semi fixed. Is that normal?

@LASERWOLF452 Hi. I am using an HTC 10 on Verizon. I'm thinking about buying a refurbished LG V20, and would like to know if I can just swap my HTC 10 SIM card into a V20 and be good to go on Verizon? After that I would want to root the V20 following your guide here.

Yes you can just put your Verizon Sim card from your HTC 10 in a Verizon or Unlocked V20 and all will work.

After unlocking the bootloader using the dirty santa tutorial, if I reinstall KDZ stock for my cell phone, I still have the bootloader unlocked so I can later install Custom and root?

Downgrade from 7.0 nogat and get Root to 5.1.1

First of all, don't get your hopes high, i rooted as traditional method like many others. I'm flashaholic and i started new thread for those who upgraded intentionally or accidentally and now think download would brick their sets. it won't. things are pretty obvious here but i repeat I'm sharing this to people who've upgraded for any reasons and have no clue how to downgrade or achieve root.
So i bought a cell (sm g920V) with preinstalled PI2 (MM6.0.1) . found out pingpong root is avail only for 5.02 . i was afraid to downgrade so i searched more. found out nogat 7.0 DQD1 has root. and can be rooted via cf autoroot. i upgraded and i tried. but it didn't worked. on nougat i did everything. tried every root app (both pc and apk ver) but failed. i decided to go back.
here i found This thread by @toutanje which said even i upgraded to nougat, i can safely downgrade to PK2 (6.0.1) , PH1 (6.0.1) and BOG7 (5.1.1) . i flashed BOG7 (5.1.1) directly because during search i've foundout that there is temporary root available for BOK7, and they both are 5.1.1. i did this because BOG7 is earlier version than BOK7, for this i won't have to downgrade but to upgrade that i did. i flashed BOK7 and headed Here, a thread by @klip1 . there wasn't any clear instructions not links no attachments. but thanks to @MrMike2182 who shared main file Here. BEWARE that you'll lose root each time you reboot, but you can gain it back easily by running root apk simply from your mobile. this is better then not having one.
so if you desperately want root. wherever you're on nougat DQD1 or MM. Downgrade to BOK7.
simply follow instructions there and all you have to do is to flash BOG7 from thread mentioned above (for safety as i did did step and i'm not sure if you may directly downgrage to BOK7), then flash BOK7, odin Sboot file (attached). you'll see some yellow codes above when restart. i was stuck there with bootloop on VZ logo. all you need to do is to factory reset. (by pressing and hold vol + & vol down + power button until you see black screen with options. press vol down and highlight second option factory data and reset. now press home button. )
phone will start normally, goto devloper options, enable usb debug, allow unknown sources and than root it with kingroot apk. done.
Those who prefer SuperSu can get lead from Here thanks to @EvilRubberDuck. but i am not sure about point 3. there is nothing attached at first post. tough little search may lead you to success.
Thanks to whoever took even little interst to make this beast rooted. please try to get permanent root for this device too. if anyone know how to get it, or any more info regarding rooting this device. please share. let me aware. i'll really appreciate that.
NOTE : i take no responsibility of what you do to your mobile. you're doing it with your own consent. if you're unsure what you're doing, don't do it. I, developers/members mentioned and xda are not responsible for ANYTHING or what you do to your phone.

If you use the SuperSU instead of KingRoot then you can use my installroot script and then the rootatboot if you need to reboot for some reason however if you are not near a PC at the time and you really need to reboot then use terminal emulator from the play store and open it and type su then enter and on the next line type pkill zygote and voila reboots without PC.

yes i've read this post of yours, i should've added this. Glad you came here and i really appreciate your efforts for s6 users. you've done great job for us.
it'll be great if you attach your script and write or quote your method here too. so users don't have to go through earlier threads and finding things. like me who bought this phone pretty late.
right now i'm using quickreboot apk to get hot reboot which keeps the root. but sometimes when you really need to restart. i see your solution as best.

OK so my phone is on 5.1.1, it was originally on 7.0 so you can downgrade back to the 5.1.1 firmware.. I've included in the file the eng kernel and eng sboot but there's different versions so this one in my file called boot.tar is from the eng kernel to the S6 G925V so if you're using G920V you need to get the eng kernel for that one.. Now first you put the phone into download mode and flash the eng kernel using odin and after the phone boots then using Windows command prompt navigate using the cd command to where the file is you downloaded called S6rootbyMrMike2182 once you're in there type installroot and the script should run and flash everything needed including busybox and then the phone will reboot (it will also boot just this one time without using the rootatboot because the same codes in this file too) now when you click on the SuperSU app it's going to say it needs to update su ignore it and go right to the play store and install/update the SuperSU from there and then the phone should be rooted and ready to go.. If you ever need to reboot for some reason connect the phone to your PC and open a command prompt in the same folder again and run rootatboot and it will set the phone as permissive again so it boots.. You can unplug it after you see the Verizon logo.. If for some reason you aren't near a computer and you really need to reboot then use terminal emulator from the play store and open it and type su and grant root access and then on the next line type pkill zygote and voila reboots without a computer
If you have KingRoot on your phone and you want to get rid of it to use SuperSU thanks to @Chainfire then use this script that I'm listing below.. Also keep terminal emulator open while you are doing this because you might(not all devices just some) get a continuous annoying popup that prevents you from doing anything (thanks to KingRoots junk) so you'll have to use terminal emulator to kill/end that process in order to continue and after you kill/end that process then go delete it immediately! Links to root with SuperSU and KingRoot removal are below!

By the way I nor XDA-DEVELOPERS is responsible for anything you choose to do to your phone! If something goes wrong, just reflash your original firmware but don't go blaming me nor XDA because I don't have to put this up so please do your research before messing with your phone and as always, make a backup of everything you wish to keep! And no this will not delete or wipe your phone unless you choose to! Links are above. You can change it or whatever just give props where it's due!!
SERIOUSLY MAKE A BACKUP OF ALL YOUR PICTURES ETC ETC BEFORE DOWNGRADING AND I'M NOT KIDDING!!!

ok i'm getting confuse here. can you please provide exact files that needed to flash on g920V please ? i mean eng kernel and sboot ? and the file with odin says "G920A_Kernel_Root_5.1.1_S****.tar", A ? isn't A refers to at & t ?
i'm afraid if i may flash wrong file. can you please help me here with exact files needed for us (G920v) ?
and when i'm running installroot via cmd, it execute it goes like it created by you until daemon started successfully for like for five to 8 sec and then disappear. phone doesn't reboot. nothing happens. ,
can anyone confirm if i can directly downgrade to BOK7 ? im currently on DQD1 also can anyone guide me how to actually flash my phone like step wise im new here.. I upgraded to 7.0 but I desperately want root now I've odin installed i just need some1 to teach me how to do it like where to select sboot file and other files

welcome here. first things first, i don't mean to discourage you but if you don't know about where to "put sboot and other files", you really shouldn't be doing this. additionally downgrading is a risky process where things get messy due to single mistake .
To answer your question directly, NO. i've read a post somewhere here that we can only downgrade to mentioned (in 1st post) firmware. OP there tried to downgrade to other fw but failed.
and that is exactly why i did long and safe procedure and downgraded to BOG7 and then BOK7. . both are 5.1.
2nd question : you need to put sboot file in "AP" section of odin. (be careful with using it)
i assume you have G920V, which have locked bootloader, my suggestion would be... its not worth it. trust me. even if you downgrade, and rooted too, you'll loose root if you restart your device. and you cannot install recovery and so on. there is no permanent root for this device.
Exchange your device for international version or so, either wait for it and enjoy being on nougat. devs are working on it may be. some claim to root nougat too. better don't downgrade and much better if you stop right there when you don't have basic knowledge about this. you'll end up having paper weight instead of device.

But on 5.1.1 my battery life was so good now it just keeps draining even on power saving just drain and drain I previously also upgraded using Odin from 5.1.1 to 7.0 (biggest mistake) and i'm regretting it although its much better it terms of improvements and performance i just cant live with this battery life also i need root for WifiKill and to hack in-app purchases .. and i don't reboot my device often..
so if im downgrading to both of these BOK7 or BOG7 i need to use the sboot file u provided right ?

alright. nothing to worry about. just downgrade like i mentioned on OP (for safe side as no one here to confirm)
okay so like i said you just need to put the provided file (all credits to original dev/coder) in AP section and flash after you install BOK7. .
i can only tell you about BOK7 as i've done and using this. not G7.
so after to downgrade to bok7, let it boot properly. factory reset your phone, go to download mode and flash attached file using odin. (uncheck all options but f reset time and auto reboot)
phone will restart, and you'll see some green numbers and something when booting. let it boot. go to dev options enable usb debugging. uncheck "verify apps usgin adb" and... root either from kingroot (comes with 100 of ads even on lock screen) or look at this post by MrMike2182 who gave us superSU :victory:
and most important part here : make a backup of everything. and i take no responsibility of what you do to your mobile. you're doing it with your own will. if you're unsure what you're doing, don't do it. I, developers/members mentioned here and xda are not responsible for ANYTHING in any way.
good luck :good:

i can only tell you about BOK7 as i've done and using this. not G7.
so after to downgrade to bok7, let it boot properly. factory reset your phone, go to download mode and flash attached file using odin.

Quick question if i can root my device with this method it possible to install xposed framework via Flashfire?, just a question.
If not possible install xposed not a problem, better root than nothing, and i am not reboot so much, to say nothing.
And like say Muhammad Aliyan, the battery in 7.0 is much more less than 5.1.1
(Sorry for my bad english.)

i have tried it earlier and failed but now when i saw youre asking this, i gave it another try and i'm stuck on bootloop. lol.
better don't do it.
i've read it that xposed is not compatible to our devices (64bit) yet ( just read it not confirming it) + in xposed official thread, it has been warned that bootloops occur in samsung stock roms. soi'd say do not try this.

So close, well better wait to safe method in stock room, or unlock bootloader. Thanks anyway.

thats strange because i had FP working while rooted from same sboot file that i attached.
try downloading from another source like in second post where mrmike2182 shared it. and try removing Samsung account (if its there, don't forget to turn off reactivation lock before that.)
see if it helps.

hmm. i believe FP didn't came friendly with this sboot. any experienced dev might help us out here
make sure you have proper drivers installed and have working adb. read instructions, search fourm. by the way, for same kind of issues, i had to go with kingroot.

Its working, its ****ing working, I sacrifices FP, and Supersu but I dont mind i have xposed and a root.

Edit1: bad news activated module xposed requeried reboot, soo the root is lost and requiered to root again with kingroot the problem is my percent is not advance 01%. Also every time I rooted the phone is slowing arriving a point where it restarted alone and is only 01%.
If i a factoy reset i lost xposed and root or better reflash the Rom OK7?

Getting root on the BNTV460 is a pain....

Just picked this up for the significant other's bday. Bootloader unlocked it with the instructions from @ipdev, and can report that method works. Can't get root.
Does anyone have this device and have achieved root? I'm a bit perplexed, even flashing a patched boot img isn't getting Magisk on there the way that it should.
Thanks!
Important to Note that the 460 has the exact same EVERYTHING as the 450, including build #s. They just gave it double the internal space is the only difference I've seen.
UPDATE: Just bricked the lil' guy. Since the device is encrypted with every system file having a -sign behind it, I went and frolicked around trying to get Magisk on there via ADB. The only way to do that was to patch the boot-sign .img and since I got the new Magisk, I let it patch, flashed, and now voila, nothing but a bootloop. Off to DM Verity my way out of it lol.

If it is close enough to 450, and you can get into fastboot, you can try and boot the linked boot.img
fastboot boot m19_ST16C7BNv205.img
Same modifications I had to use to get the first boot image I found to work with BNTV450.
avb, mtk type and signature removed.
Also patched with Magisk 19 (canary release)
For good measure.
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1LgtB2JKCKwLJ64mUlij5Cb_cJrBi8Av1
PS.
Tested above modified v2.0.5 boot.img on BNTV450 running v1.0.2, so it should work on BN v1.0.2 and up.
Good Luck.
Cheers.
PPS.
Just ordered one. (Should show up in 2-3 days.)
Hey @ipdev make sure you get the insurance for 2 years. Shouldn't be more than 6-8 bucks. You're going to need it.
I went ahead and tried all the versions that you posted on your OP for flashing; only one was successful - the rest softbricked on the flash. When I went back and flashed the 460 stock on it, it was a different stock and never did run back right - kept getting the blinking red border ring and unfortunately lost the serial #, flash, and every possible entry on the "About Nook" tab - essentially glitching it out. Since I''d only had it for 12 hours, I took it back and swapped it out for a fresh one
So the issues I'm seeing so far are:
1. It's encrypted and says as such - this is what is causing the probs later in flashing and you can't deactivate it from what I see so far without a custom recovery.
2. Patching the boo img via MagiskManager will softbrick it, and I tried with both 18 & 19 inase there were issues with one over another.
3. The device will try to auto update ASAP OTA so make sure you don't connect it to the internet before you disable that function.
4. There is no "official firmware" you can download - B&N will only let you direct download the firmware through notifications. Granted, if you want the only one I was able to find I can post it (it says its Oreo 8.1.0 but it looks different than what comes on the device and its running a crappy Android Go)
5. Its easy to unlock the bootloader per your instructions but after you get the Orange State it takes an awful long time for basic boot (which is more of a personal irritant than a problem, lol)
6. If you patch and flash the boot img with Magisk, you will completely lose the screen. Keep in mind though, if you plug it into the computer you will keep hearing the connect/disconnect chimes. It will keep doing that and neither adb or fastboot will function (even though you can fastboot devices command and it will show a Daemon output).
7. Booting into recovery becomes harder and harder from adb and fastboot once you unlock the bootloader - pressing volume rocker and power does not do it at all.
I'll try your new files and see what happens...I think the guy got a hell of a lot of potential and needs a nice streamlined rom or at the very least root to get the bloat off so its faster. But I think it says something on its crippled nature when the guys at B&N say it ain't worth it in the long run - apparently they aren't as great as even the nook HD line.

Bootloader Unlocking through Downgrade possible?

Hello Guys,
i had bought an Huawei P20 about an year ago. Now you know with all of this "USA-Huawei" Trouble going on, the thought came to my mind that i better start unlocking bootloader and be prepared to flash custom rom if worst come to worst. so far, so good.
now i started looking around if there is an easy method of getting the bootloader unlocked. but oh my, the huawei company is very friendly to us users and say "no, you wont get any unlock code from us anymore". so screw that.
now i want to try some experimental stuff. it looks like this:
my Smartphone has currently the version EML-L29 8.1.0.168(C432). I bought some Credits (i think it is that thing for $4) from DC-Unlocker. Yeah yeah i know, there they say "no support for Huawei P20!!!". But i still want to try. Well i tried, but it doesnt work - what you should expect.
now i read from some other website that there is another way of unlocking it. i only read it diagonal but the one thing i read was the information "unlocking bootloader is only possible till firmware version june 2018". so i jumped to an maaybe interesting conclusion about unlocking the phone with DC-Unlocker or HCU (whatever, i guess maybe both use the same method anyway).
if i do an rollback to the old firmware version *before* June 2018 on the device, wouldnt it be possible to do the unlock? Because the security patches that preventing it unlocked arent on the device then.
So what i have done so far is loading the old firmware version 8.1.0.128(C432). But the source is saying that it is coming from "Asia" but in the next line it reads "Asia, Europe" etc. - do they mean that this version is universal or do i run in trouble if i install one that is having the wrong area?
the next thing that kinda baffles me... all guides are sayin "copy the extracted dload folder to your sd-card". even the p20 guides do that. but.. well you know, the p20 device doesnt even have sd-card support. so how are you intended to use it then? i wonder about that a bit.
i dont think that without unlocked bootloader, flashing an original OTA full update would be impossible. but im not really sure how. there is this shady menu you can reach if you call this strange numbercode. but im very unsure if that will really work out. the phone (it is still a phone without SD-Card-Support) even has the option "apply update from sd-card". so im wondering how this feature they implemented in the original software is intended to use at all. maybe i should push the dload folder on the internal storage? i dunno.
i read about another possibilty of flashing stock roms. they say you can do it per adb command. so no problems would be here, i have adb and the hisuite and all already set. but i have absolutely no idea if that is possible without unlocked bootloader. so the questions arose from my mind are those:
- does an stock rom image from possibly/maybe asia would do any harm to my device like it is getting unbootable or anything like that?
- is it possible to flash an image older android stock rom with methods like this special menu on the device or the adb load?
- do you all think that my plan of downgrading the phone in order to get the bootloader code would work?
i'm looking very forward to your answers )

No. Sorry. There's no solution. Reason: It would appear in this forum within minutes and thousands of people would be happy to unlock their bootloaders. Many Huawei-Owners here on XDA invested a lot of brain power to find a way. Noone succeeded. No bootloader code, no unlock.
If you still want to play around with firmwares, please inform us about any progress.

okay so there are basically no real information. look, i dont expect anyone to say like "oh there is an easy method xy" because i know it doesnt exist on this moment in time.
however i made an percent of an progress, it is more a thing for other interested custom rom modders out there.
i downloaded this update.zip and there are all kinds of howtos on the internet about it. the one thing i did is basically create the dload folder. then i put the extracted update.app in there. i rebooted the phone with power, vol down + vol up. i released the power button after the vibrating. the flashing screen indeed appeared! but something very strange has happened and i have no explanation what have happend.
so the emui updater appeared. there was this emui logo in the middle, the circle building up around it. but then it stopped at 5%. i really got panicked that im about to brick my device. so in an mad attempt i wanted to stop the update and power off the phone. glad i didnt do it. the phone always said if i tried to press the power button long enough "the system will crash if it is powered down". i stopped - but i tried it serveral times to stop.
now the strange thing is.. it stuck relatively long on this screen. but after a while (i guess it was 5-6 minutes) it suddenly got dark. and the battery was at 100%, so it wasnt a faulty battery. i just wondered. the phone - other than i would expect - rebooted. after a short while of the logo flashing (for about an half minute) it finally started. first i didnt have any connect to GSM Network. but after a short while that was okay too. all apps are still there. i looked at "about" and the version is still the same as before.
do someone have any imagination what has happened there? so apparently the phone *does* try to install something on this method, but the method seemed to fail. or is there any knowledge out yet for update logs that are getting generated by this process? i try to find any hint in order to tackle this problem atm.
and one thing is still on my mind.. could it be that the update is already through and i just didnt realized it yet because these other custom files werent changed? i mean that could be an possibility to say the least. anyway, i will try to use hcu now if maybe sth has changed. and i give kingoroot as well a shot if this buddy finds everything about rooting the device. maybe with root rights through exploit i can get further.

It seems you have a couple of questions, pal, I answered to the first one (Bootloader Unlocking through Downgrade possible?). All I said is that it's impossible to unlock the bootloader through a downgrade. If you read all the how-to's you should have noticed that FirmwareFinder doesn'st work anymore since EMUI 9.0. This Information simply means Huawei doesn't allow us to flash updates on our own anymore like we did before. For sure there are some guides how to rollback to Android 8 but even this changes nothing to the bootloader.
Sadly I have no answer to the other questions about the strange behavior, it sounds pretty odd. Never heared something like this. But good luck fixing your phone anyway.
well i found out a couple of things now.
first thing: you know the service menu when you try to apply a zip archive from sd card? well you wont be able to use it UNTIL you use an usb-otg cable and an exFat formatted USB-Stick. Next thing to know is, you have to use the right images. there seem to be an kind of rule how this images are supposed to be and the image i found was from an russian firmware download site it was linked here in the forum in a thread. so i did choose "apply zip from sdcard" and .. IT DOES! the device rebooted, the stick flashed and the flashing process occured! and guys, im back to Version EML-L29 8.1.0.128(C432)! it is clearly stated in the build version view in settings. so.. i guess you *can* roll back even without firmware updater.
so far so good. but lets get back to the problem with the Bootloader. sadly Jan Philipp was totally right.. the bootloader cant be unlocked even in this version with the security patch of 5. may 2018. that is kinda sad. even kingoroot is still no different from before. i guess i have to search now for an way to get the system rooted. however, it must be easier on an earlier security update stage like now instead of the future versions of emui 8.1.
edit: another strange thing i discovered so far is that after this restore.. the play store wasnt able to connect to the google server until i gave permission to a few google processes to calendar and file access (i wonder what that is all about). maybe it has something to do with incompatibilities in the rom versions but now it works just fine as it should).
"unlocking bootloader with exploit is only possible till firmware version june/july 2018" does not apply to 2018's devices with kirin970, kirin980 & kirin710.
You are with kirin970.
So to unlock your kirin970, the only way for now is to wait for 3rd party seller to hypotheticaly start back their dervice:
- In the last 6 months there was only 2 'windows' which lasted 3 or 4 days where you could order your bootloader's unlock code by imei (from 5 to 124 us$).

Google Play services require all permissions, otherwise won't work.
I also been searching on how to unlock the bootloader and found no solution or hope. I guess we are stuck with EMUI forever.
Reply from Huawei:
You can roll back to earlier versions of EMUI software, but you have to roll back one version at a time. However, our earlier phones operate exclusively on Google Mobile Services so removing it would limit the functionality extremely, however, we do have a range of new devices that no longer rely on Google Mobile Services and use Huawei Mobile Services instead - such as our P40 series.
Here are the instructions for rolling back software:
[Rollback Guideline] EMUI 9.1 (Android 9) Rollback to EMUI 9.0 (Android 9) Operation Instruction
EMUI 9.1 (Android 9) can now be rolled back to the official version of EMUI 9.0 (Android 9) using HiSuite, without downloading any intermediate packages. To ensure that the rollback succeeds, read the instructions carefully and perform the steps as instructed.
1. The following are precautions for roll-back.
a. Rolling back to an earlier version will erase all data on your device. Use an SD card, computer, or Cloud storage to back up all important data before rolling back your phone, and make sure all backed up content is complete and effective.
b. Use a computer running a Windows operating system to visit http://consumer.huawei.com/minisite/HiSuite_en/index.html and download the latest version of HiSuite. If HiSuite is installed on your computer, click the version number in the lower left corner of the page to check if it is the latest version. Make sure HiSuite version is 9.1.0.303 _OVE or above.
c. Before rolling back the phone, make sure your phone has not been upgraded using non-official updates. Otherwise, the roll-back may fail and unknown issues may be introduced. If you have used non-official packages to upgrade your phone, it is recommended that you go to an after-sales service center to roll back your phone.
d. Before rolling back your phone, make sure that your phone system has not been unlocked or rooted. If the system has been unlocked or rooted, it is recommended that you go to an after-sales service center to roll back your phone.
e. Before the roll-back, restore the phone to factory settings to make sure there is enough storage space.
f. Make sure the battery level is more than 50%.
