Kernel seems to be missing a few features of the stock, and installed BusyBox corrupt
As mentioned above, there does seem to be some issues with the kernel and root methods.
Everything else works like a charm, as it did when it was stock, however, V4A no longer takes to the device with the kernel (https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...ustomized-kernel-sm-s820l-finally-to-t3513050) (Non-ADB root), and Orbot no longer properly connects. All signs point to this being because the kernel you made lacks the NetFilter feature, needed for VPN's and Proxies.
In other news, I would assist you in correcting this, and building a CM port from your ROM, but my PC's hard drive blew and I'm currently looking for a replacement, as well as more RAM and a CPU that at least runs OpenGL 2.
I do have my hands on a completely stock firmware for the SM-S820L and I will see what I can do with it from there on my device.

Hey there!! Thanks for the info. I wonder if I uploaded the wrong project because I have this Kernel installed in my phone and I use PIA vpn which works just fine. The Busybox does seem to be messed up because when I tried to install an update Stericson version, I got a bunch of errors.
I use Assayyed Kitchen to mod the stock components for both Kernel and ROMs. If you know your way around this Kitchen or have other methods to fix these issues I would be grateful for the help.
My email is [email protected]
Feel free to email me or just shoot me PMs on this site. We can make things happen:good::laugh:

Any news on getting this fixed? Would be cool to have Knox and bloat killed.

How edit a kernel?

I'm using MIUI rom for my Nexus S. I have tested Netarchy kernel, the most complete of his genre, but it give me stability issues.
I want take the default android kernel and add some non-invasive features like overclock, bln, etc. wich let's MIUI run stable.
My problem is that i don't know how i can edit a kernel. Unpack .img files, decompile and recompile them.
Anyone can help me with a small introduction?
Thanks a lot.

first of all, wrong section..even though it is about "development"...still a question
anyways, there is no way to "edit a kernel" they have to be built from source. changes need to be made before you compile it.
there are many threads here on xda with tutorials -search >compile kernel<
a simple way to start is seach >mkbootimg< normally this would be compiled from source as well but there are a few threads that people have posted tutorials of the ins and outs and have packages for download.
basically with that you can "split" a boot.img separating the ramdisk (specific to the rom) and the kernel...then merge "your" miui ramdisk with a working (or built for other rom) kernel
You can start here:

A BrassFeet ROM for Nexus 7.
Here we have BrassDroid, a collaboration between PjFlo and DeeToTheVee.
This Rom will follow suit with our Galaxy Nexus rom, so expect more flavours to become available soon!
This Rom is created from a combination of AOSP and the Google factory image with some 4.2 goodies on-top.
This rom also includes a few build.prop tweaks as-well and some shaven fat.
NOTE: This .zip package does not overwrite your recovery or bootloader. Those still getting issues booting into recovery
even with the latest 4.1.2 bootloader should try TWRP 2.3.1.1 this has been patched to avoid such an error.
Stable AOSP + Stock source.
Franco Kernel r25
(Check his thread for kernel customisation, I recommend turning Fsync off).
Gallery/camera and Keyboard from Android 4.2.
(Keyboard must be turned on in language&input)
Rooted and unsecured.
Zipaligned and Deodexed.
STOCK ANDROID WEB BROWSER!
Smoother scrolling and dithering.
Enjoy!
Grouper Brassdroid R1a - http://goo.im/devs/pjflo/grouper_Brassdroid_R1a.zip
NOTE: The latest keyboard is causing issues in the setup wizard at the moment, I will upload the apk here to be installed manually afterwards.
This will be baked into the Rom for the next release - 4.2. Keyboard http://goo.im/devs/pjflo/LatinIMeGoogle_signed.apk
There is also multiple flavours available for the Galaxy Nexus -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1823482
Wipe data+cache and flash .zip with CWM or TWPR.
If you are running BrassDroid or Stock feel free to 'dirty' flash.
If you are coming from a CM10 build; remove any screen customisations (gamma etc.) before wiping and flashing this rom!
What works:
Everything!
If anything is not right for you, please let us know.
Screenshots coming soon.. though if you look at your nexus 7 with the screen on... you get the idea..
Future updates coming soon! extended power menu etc..
Please let us know your thoughts below, and enjoy BrassDroid!
RESERVED
Thanks. Will try this out later.
Nice. I'll give this a go later.
1) The stock browser crashes upon launch immediately, even after a reboot.. everything else working so far.
2) Tried installing the 4.2 APK you provided, fails, then copied the apk into system/app. Not showing up in input/keyboards section after reboot, instructions?
Whoops! Bad start!
I put the wrong browser in :/
For now you can delete latinime.apk and its odex file for system/app/
Then install the downloaded one after a reboot.
I will correct these issues tomorrow. Thanks.

Advantages of Customizing Your Own Kernel:
Whenever a program is customized for a specific architecture, usually the level of performance increases and becomes more stable version. Generic binaries need to function on various processors, which makes it inferior to your system.
Another advantage is that you are able to eliminate the unnecessary modules and components from it. Removing excess modules and components will reduce the size of the compiled kernel and helps it to boot quickly.
Building your own kernel allows you to add various features and optimize it for better performance.

Disadvantages of Customizing Your Own Kernel:
When you build your own kernel, you need to maintain the updates, security patches.
Its better to know how to customize the kernel, if you do things wrong, it could lead in stopping of the server.
Possibly, customizing a kernel is very time consuming and can take a lot of time. Building a kernel requires good technical skills and knowledge as well as it consumes a lot of CPU power.
Consider the above discussed advantages and disadvantages and decide which kernel to choose for your dedicated server, pre-compiled or a customized one. People using the customized kernels are satisfied with it and people using the ready kernels are pleased as well. Now, its up to you, which kernel is best for your server that will offer optimum performance.

User Profiles on Stock 4.4.2 Verizon

I had to send to phone in due to charger plug went bad, replaced for free. Yea. But now I am on 4.4.2 from Verizon. I rooted using Towelroot, awesome BTW and easy. Installed Xposed and Gravity Box since there is no too install custom ROM's yet(Slim was my go to). Now to my question. Where are user profiles? I thought this was made available on 4.2 or 4.3 but since I have used nothing but custom Roms up until now I don't know for sure. Does the Samsumg version on 4.4.2 remove this feature? I have been playing with Gravity Box to customize the look but quicksetting still appears to have the TW look, I forgot how ugly it is. I am assuming it's a Verizon thing but don't know if I'm just missing something. I don't see user profile in any the phone setting.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks

I believe multi user profiles is only available with tablet. You need to install an multi user profiles apk in order to see the feature.

Above image is more of what I want.
Bottom image is what 4.4.2 on verizon gives me
As buhohitr advised, you'll need a ROM or available .zip installer that has multiple users as a feature. To my knowledge the HyperDrive ROM supports this on the tablet, but I have a VZW GS3 and have tried multiple ROMs on it. I haven't seen multiple profiles at this point.
Thank you both for your help. Miss flashing. Most of the Roms I have used have had that feature, Slimkat, hellfire, and SOKP

[Tool] [Windows] Makes flashing quick and easy!

With Google releasing monthly patches (which I believe is a good thing!), it's become a bit of a chore to install updates, especially so if, like me, you have a modified device stopping you installing OTA updates.
I wanted to do something to make it a bit quicker, so I made Nexus Flash! I guess you can think of it as minimal ADB & Fastboot packaged with a GUI.
I've decided I don't like the GUI layout, and I'm pretty sure most will agree, so I've already started working a new layout, bug fixes, and adding some extra features which I'm sure some may find helpful like an update manager (so you don't have to go to Github every time there's a new version), another example is a way to boot an image file too, for instance, Chainfire's CF-Auto-Root.
Currently, there isn't much validation of user input, so please only use it as intended for now. It shouldn't break your device if you don't use it correctly since ADB has built in measures to validate files to some degree at least.
However, I have to say, this program is provided without ANY warranty or guarantee. Using this program is at your own risk. I have tested this on my own Nexus 5X and it works perfectly.
The source code is released under the GNU GPL (General Public Licence) and can be found on Github.

Prerequisites for Windows:
You'll need the .Net framework 4.5.2 installed (Windows 10 already has this).
Prerequisites for Android device:
Your device must have an unlocked bootloader.
You must have USB debugging enabled.
You'll also need the Android ADB USB drivers installed too.
Guides can be easily found by searching for them, there's plenty of them around!
