Guess I'm gonna start first. Is the screen on this model same as Z5? Is it in-cell touch or we are going to see the weird patterns on the screen when viewing from an angle? Thanks guys.

hello ) just got my new Xz and was wondering about the root ) !? how to get it

I have recently noticed that notification sounds are coming through the speakers even when the headset is in (yes its in all the way) anyone have any ideas?

From what I read, the dual speakers are about 2db lower in loudness than the X performance. Any way to validate this? Also... Any way to root this thing? Thanks

Hi, currently to root your device, you have to unlock your bootloader. Root on Locked Bootloader has not been achieved yet.
If you decide to Unlock it, you will loose your DRM keys & also loose certain features. But, all of these features can be recovered using AndroPlus Kernel in the development thread.
I'm currently using his Kernel with his official TWRP & enjoying it so much.
Hope this helps

AC wifi works better compared to my z5p. Mobile reception is otherwise similar.

otg cable
Hello everyone,
Today I wanted to buy an OTG cable, but had no luck.
The shop told me that usb-c was developed for usb 3, and that the usb 3 protocols don't need an otg cable.
Unluckily our phone is usb 2.0 only, so an OTG cable seems to be mandatory.
We put a Delock USB 2.0 USB-C to micro-B adaptor in the usb-c outlet and attached the usb-otg cable from my Xperia Z3 to it.
No response from the XZ. When the otg cable was attached to the Z3, it recognized the cable. The usb stick that was inserted thereafter was also recognized correctly.
We also tried a Bandridge usb-c to usb-a adaptor cable without any success: the cable wasn't recognized (quite logical, since it isn't an otg adapter), nor (of course) was the usb drive that was later attached to the cable.
My question to the community is: does someone have an otg cable that functions correctly with the XZ?
Kind regards,
Skully ☺
Phone: F8331, build 39.0.A.1.213. Plain unmodified stock firmware and kernel.
BTW: No other problems with the phone until now (I've had the phone only for two days): snappy responses (Antutu score 127235), clear reception during calls, no trouble during navigation, correct BT pairing, and good signal quality.

Why is my call ringtone volume is so tiny
I have set the volume to max but the audio is still tiny

Hi guys, I notice my xz likes wifi very much. So much that even when I turn wifi off when I am at home, the phone somehow is able to detect that the home wifi network is on and it switches back to wifi on its own!
I already have set "auto network switch" to off...
Anyone knows whats causing this behaviour?

After turning unnecessary battery hogs off, like, location history etc. i'm getting acceptable battery life. The phone gets through a day. But this morning I overslept and left the charger on for 3 hours after battery care got it to 100, and when I now check actual capacity in ##7378423##, it says that it is now 2839 mAh, while yesterday it was saying 2897 mAh. This is the first time I overcharged the phone since i bought it, %2 battery capacity loss seems a bit high for me. Is this normal?

Working Mini Keyboard?

Hi,
Have been thinking about getting a mini usb keyboard for TG01 as it's easier to send a long email if I can't use my PC, but the thing is I can probably only buy one off ebay and I don't want to buy it if it doesnt work (tried one before and never worked) so could anyone recommend a mini keyboard that would definitely work or give some advice on what to look out for? Unlike optical mice, I don't think corded keyboards consume much power do they, if any?
Cheers

In fact, you can use ANY standard USB keyboard for PC.
Today I have a wonderful mini bluetooth keyboard, but before it I had a flexible silicone keyboard like this:

Hey that looks really cool, will look out for one of those. Don't fancy bluetooth as it will consume power so prefer something that plugs in. Thanks for your response.
A USB keyboard also draws power.
I'm not entirely sure which would yield the most drain on the phone - for bluetooth, the bluetooth radio must be enabled, but USB, the USB host feature must be enabled, and the keyboard itself must be powered.
Two advantages to bluetooth - 1) you're not putting ANY more drain onto the phone's pathetic excuse for a battery. 2) the USB port is then free for charging when (and it certainly is WHEN) the battery goes flat!

Damn, i didn't think of this. Thanks for telling me. Unfortunately, I've already bought the keyboard lol. Perhaps I could buy a usb splitter adapter thing if they exist? That way I could keep the phone charged at the same time. Thanks very much for your comment.

last time i used my pc keyboard on the TG , my battery went 80% > 30% in half an hour and the battery was warm too
I'll just have to use it for writing long emails. Ideally, I wanted it for IMing Maybe I could resell it one day and get a bluetoother. Cheers for your replies.
A bluetooth keyboard is the best soultion for you.

hai,

i've found this.. and i'll buy soon.. it's a bluetooth keyboard.. that i can use on my TV's PC when i don't use with phone.. but is expensive..

I use a usb keyboard with the TG01 every day of the week. I used to keep swapping out the usb cable - one to power it - and then the micro to usb attached to usb keyboard - for emails. However, can't charge the phone anymore (obviously theres some issue with the micro usb port...not worth fixing as out of warranty). However, using an external charger and 2 x batteries. I just keep rotating the batteries -and this works out fine. Can use usb keyboard this way without issue (although I always plug it out the moment I am finished writing a mail).

OLD POST - HOW I STARTED
Firstly hi all
Secondly i want describe myself as a person who has only little knowledge about electronics etc. Also i am very busy at work and at home after work with kids, so to be honest with you i can test it only while i am actually working ( i do Testing and servicing medical devices )
At this moment i can't "afford" to buy SONY ERICSSON LIVEdock ( OTG MODE + CHARGING AT THE SAME TIME )
I just want to share my progress in making cheaper verision of LIVEdock, also i looking fore some smart arse to help me/us finish what i started,
I know this is little bit messy and don't kill me for my english please

I made simple OTG CABLE with permanently shorted PIN 4 (sense) AND 5 (ground) on my microUSB. The i realized that phone battery must support power for phone and connected USB device such as keyboard, mouse, gamepad etc. Then i added ON/OFF switch between PIN 4 and 5 what i achieved ?
Now i can switch between OTG MODE and CHARGING MODE ( unfortunately both modes wouldn't work at the same time ). Then i added another two ON/OFF switches to cut off the power from the battery VCC (red wire) and GROUND (black) while you are in OTG MODE. I added another USB cable ( this one suply power from computer or charger or car charger ) but i used VCC and GROUND only i connected these wires to each switches and FEMALE USB ( one you connect keyboard ,gamepad etc ). What i achieved ? now Battery support only my phone but phone is still in OTG mode, and whole power goes to our device ( Keyboard, USB flash memory etc ) .

Now we know how to get external power source to our external device , but i still haven't find an solution how to get phone in charging mode or to do anything to prevent phone from discharging while we are in OTG MODE . I know that SONY instead of so many switches used just some simple electronics components. Also i still haven't try everything but if you have any idea please let me know.
Later on i will upload Video on YouTube ( HOW IT WORKS )
Regards
SUCCESS
BTW i got this working !!! ( USING HUB WITH 4X USB PORTS )
OTG AND CHARGING AT THE SAME TIME !!! should work for any device with OTG SUPPORT so far i can post screen shoot only , more details later on if you interesting...

Please do tell. Are you pretty sure it'll work for any OTG device? Regardless of its hardware. Specifically the nexus 7.
I hope will work for all devices . Successfuly tested on my Xperia S. I will test soon on Galaxy S2 and S3. Also I completely redesign everything. Forget about first post and crappy switches. I made docking station for my phone I just have to finish my it. I want to add some LED. Is all about right cables and resistors in right place. I think this should also work on simple Y cable.
Give me some time to get everything ready. I have two kids a home plus looking for new house plus I am working. But I will post instruction here soon

Interesting indeed.
Take you time. And you have the xda support, because this is something that we want also.
Thanks for the research and effort.
At this moment i can post some pictures with my crappy beta most ugly dock - but was design for testing only and i have done already so many transformations . Most important
OTG and CHARGING working at the same time !!
On the photos you can see LED ON , USB STORAGE CONNECTED NOTIFICATION and MOUSE CURSOR !
I connected same time :
- 8GB USB MEMORY STICK
- WIRED MOUSE
- WIRED KEYBOARD
- USB WITH POWER SUPPLY FOR MY SPEAKERS ( then i connected jack for AUDIO )
- and phone CHARGING SAME TIME
at work also i connected HUB - 1 USB ( WIRELESS MOUSE AND KEYBOARD ) - WORKING PERFECT !
Before i will post any information HOW TO GET THIS DONE i will post video on YOUTUBE - i should have video before MIDNIGHT ( current time 6:22 PM)
VERY IMPORTANT !!! ( i connected GALAXY SIII - unfortunately not working at all - but dont worry - in 99% i know where seems to be the problem)

So.. are you pretty positive it'll work on a Nexus 7? Has anybody tried it?
I do not have any powered USB 2.0 hubs, but if it'll work, I'd definitely buy one, I'd just like to know beforehand, if possible.
Anyone tried this yet with a N7?

Hi . Hmm i am 99% sure this should work without powered USB HUB ! according to my 2nd stage DOCK STATION , DIAGRAM HERE --> LINK
where maybe the problem ? yellow wire going straight through from pin 4 to pin 4 from one connector to another with resistor in the middle to enable OTG MODE using my HUB ! if this method will not work for you i would try to short PIN 4 and PIN 5 with RESISTOR on microUSB male connector going to your phone/tablet ...

my phq works fine with usb-otg adapter, i can read some usb flash disk that i have.
but as far as i know, when usb-otg adapter connected, the phone will give voltage/power to the USB device.
at this point i have doubt about phq + the multimedia dock.
reason being is the dock provide USB connection and at the same time (I assume) it provide charging power to the phone.
this is conflicting as if the USB port means to connect to other devices (keyboard/mouse) as USB-OTG, then at the same time phone try to give power + get power from the charger. this may damage the phone.
but i may be wrong as i don't have the dock.
the dock mentioned by the OP is quite cheap on [email protected], i think i'll grab one. thx for sharing

Hi!
I thought so myself. After buying one from ebay I can say it dose NOT fit. First: the hdmi pin on the dock is turned by 180 degrees.
After fixing that by removeing the complete hdmi pin from dock I could test the fit. The Q is to large for the dock. It will fit uneaven if tried with serious force. I did not want to damage the usb port on my q for a worse 'fitting' dock...

I know its been over a half a year since you asked and no one replied but I figured maybe you would still appreciate a response. There seem to be two dock modes: Desk (what you call bedside) and Car. Motorola made an official dock for this phone which put it into car mode however it seemed to have been pretty limitedly available when it was out and is now discontinued; thanks for abandoning us Moto. I cant even seem to find it listed on amazon used which is annoying as I have one I want to sell off (hint hint).
It has a special USB cable that goes with it that has an audio out cable down at the end where it plugs into the car charger so you dont have to plug a headphone cable into your phone to get audio out to your stereo, worked quite well when my phone was still alive.
I also have one of these droid 3 desk docks mentioned here that I need to find a good home for now.

Usb Type C to micro usb with Seek Thermal Camera?

I just bought a Seek Thermal Camera for my Galaxy S6, and planning to get a Nexus 6P, can the usb type c to micro usb adapter works?
I had to look up what the hell this is supposed to do.
So, for the uninitiated, it's a thermal imaging usb plugin for your phone.
Here are some use cases:
At Work
Contractors to find water damage, air leaks, missing insulation and other inefficiencies
Plumbers to detect water leaks and clogs
Electricians to identify electrical shorts, loose wiring and other safety hazards
HVAC professionals to assess areas of poor performance and check equipment status
Home Inspectors to identify and document potential issues with a house before purchase
Insurance Adjustors to thoroughly investigate losses and damage
Outdoors
Hunters can track game, scout terrain, and locate downed animals
Hikers and campers can navigate in the darkness and scan around a campsite for predators
Campers will be sure the campfire is completely out
Boaters can detect objects on the water at night
Pet owners can find pets at night or scan the backyard to make sure it is safe for their pets
At Home / DIY
Trace water damage up a wall or across a ceiling to its source
Discover energy inefficiencies such as missing insulation and air leaks around windows and doors
Identify the location of clogs in pipes
Detect electrical shorts, loose wiring, and other safety hazards
Confirm even tire wear on vehicles
Measure the heat distribution across the BBQ grill and the level of propane left in the tank

I read on some of the adapter posts that they are working for charging but maybe not for data. I don't have my phone yet so I can't test the techmatte ones I received, but I will see if it works for data as well as charging when I get my phone.

Cool. Thanks
I have just tryed seek thermal on One Plus Two. Type C adapter doesn't work for this camera. such a disappointment
Just tried my Seek Thermal with my Nexus 6P using the TechMatte Type-C to Micro-USB adapter (Beson-Leung-approved update) and it doesn't work. Camera doesn't power up, app can't see it. Too bad! (Even more too bad since USB-C lets me plug the camera into the phone the right way, unlike my Nexus 5.)
Hi,
I also have a seek thermal camera. And a Nexus 5x.
I have tried at least 2 adapters from eBay, got one in the mail today and it didn't work. Have 2 more on the way.
All of them claim they are OTG compatible.
EDIT:
I found a solution! On Seek Thermals homapage! Im not allowed to post links, but you will find it here:
-Go to Support
-Under "Promoted articles", choose "USB Adapters For Seek Compact"
-There are 3 links, choose USB-C adapters
They sell it on Amazon.
Im ordering right now! They also have a 180* adapter, that will fix the wrong way facing camera on my Nexus 5.
So, how its going? Is it work with that adapter?
Havent recieved it yet. Ordered it from amazone, to my sisters adress in New York, she is coming home to Norway 18. december.
So then i will be able to test it. But it should work when they say so on they're homepage.
Mine works fine.

Yep, the adapter linked at their site works great on my Nexus 5x
I was just able to get the seek thermal camera t work with my OP2. Go to settings/storage and turn on OTG. Then use the OP2 USB c to micro adapter. I was pretty disappointed at first but with a bit of tinkering got it to work!
This Meenova MicroUSB to Type-C OTG adapter is an option for Thermal Camera. http://www.amazon.com/Type-C-MicroUSB-Female-Adapter-Gray/dp/B018G6IK7E/ref=sr_1_7?m=A3UZZ0M53CX865&s=merchant-items&ie=UTF8&qid=1453387622&sr=1-7

You need this original OnePlus two type-c adapter. Remember to go to settings/storage and turn on OTG. http://www.amazon.com/Original-Oneplus-Type-c-Adapter-Invoice/dp/B01537B8IM/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1453387959&sr=8-6&keywords=oneplus+type-c
slightly off topic, but how would you guys rate these little cameras? Seems like a cool little toy/tool. Does it work well? What about longer ranges while outdoors?

Hi,
I also have the nexus 5x and it is not possible to make it work, i have the same USB C OTG adaptor that is in the picture and i even bought the one from OnePlus, and does not work neither.
Did you change any configuration in the phone?
It looks to me that the android 6 does not recognice the camera at all
Thanks!

I dont have the phone anymore, but to answer your question, i didn't changed any settings on the phone, its just plug and play with the seek thermal app.
After initially buying a generic adapter, and it not working, I found this page. Ordered the Fanisy adapters from Amazon, an 8 pack. 2 of the 8 did not work, so if you order and have a problem, try more than 1 if you bought a multi-pack. All of the other 6 connected right away when I plugged in the Seek camera, work great, no issues.

Just for informations sake, I am connecting this Seek camera to a Samsung Galaxy S9+, no changes needed. Downloaded app, ran it, no changes, plug and play and everything connected and worked.
Mine too

Hello to all,
The SEEK camera (mine is XR version but that should not matter) works with any micro USB to USB C connector that you have previously tested to be working with an OTG cable (for ex USB memory).
Tested on One+ 5T and application version 1.9.5. that is the last one that does not require to listen to your microphone.... Download this from any other place than google play. And pass through virus/malware scanner.
Also works directly on an XIAOMI Redmi 4X

USB hub with Type C pass through charging

Came across this hub with 2x USB3 ports, sdcard and microsd slots, and type c pass through for charging.

Looks useful with the limited storage available on the PixelC
I am curious if those ports will work as OTG hosts. That would be quite useful, but I'm not willing to pay $4o to test it myself lol

I preordered one for the card slots as the only flash media i buy is in microsd format.
It says it should ship in december, I'll post results here when I receive it.
I messaged Benson Leung on Google+, asking him if he recommended any USB OTG hosts. He said that OTG does not exist anymore with Type C. He recommended that I get this cable: http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00VTZ7GM0
Hopefully that hub meets the Type C spec, since it seems that 90% of cables and adapters don't.
That cable looks identical to the one I received from google in the UK, purchased from google with the tab.

Just to let you guys know:
I contacted Benson Leung and asked him about USB-C hubs for the Pixel C and he said he has one on its way and will review it shortly.
Ok, I received it. I tried powering the PixelC and it works but not at the same speed as the same charger connected directly. I estimate about 1-1.2A
I connected microsd card and it seems to work fine. Not tried using the usb type A ports yet.
My main issue is that it the position and size make it feel quite delicate. It is in the exact place I hold my pixel C and the length makes it feel like a lever on the port. I tried adding a small tab to brace it against the tablet at the other end but that feels no better. I would prefer it connect with a short cable.
I might use it in extreme cases, when wireless is not an option such as on flights, but the aesthetics and the power compliance issue make it hard to recommend.
Does this Hub really work on the Pixel C ? I mean, can i use a USB Ethernet Adapter, or a USB Stick while charging the Pixel ?

Thanks a lot. Do you possibly have a USB A to ethernet you could try it with? I'm curious to see if it'd work.
Could it be an idea to use it with a USB C extension cable, something like this?

I have a USB3 3 port hub with ethernet (an Anker AH212). I get ethernet connectivity just fine, although I don't see any options for configuration, so you're stuck with DHCP.
Nice idea on the extension cable, I was hoping one would appear. I wonder if Benson Leung has tested any.
Skally could you please elaborate on that? Do you know the exact Name of the Hub you have? (mby even with Link) would love to get my hands on that!
Anyone have pictures of this thing on your Pi-C?
This:

It might be the thing we are after with a short extension cable. Its just super pricey, and only the two most expensive versions have the charge pass through at $60 and $70 USD.
Has anyone used any accessories from HooToo and can remark on the quality?
Well I went ahead and ordered the cheapest mode. It has 3 USB3 and the SD card reader for $35. That gives me what I need on the road, and should give me some impression of the build quality and compatibility with the C. Should have it next Tuesday.

did ypou receive it already? how is it?
The usb-c is a bit loose... have to really press it in to get a confident fit. I did get it to read an SD card, this was my most needed feature. Have not yet tested the USB ports. I feel that for the price it could be better.

I have one of these. I've yet to use it extensively but can confirm that the USB ports work (4Gb stick used so far) but haven't tried them along with pass-through charging (though this works independently). Build quality seems pretty reasonable but a lot of money seems to have been spent on the presentation/packaging, a little Apple, with sculpted box and foam holding the hub.
Hi,
I've recently received a Pixel C as a replacement for an older tablet which insurance paid for (Thankfully).
Before I seen this thread I got one of the Satechi Passthrough hubs pictured at the start.
I havent had a huge play with it, But soo far I would say I'm fairly happy with it. it feels a little loose but thats not an issue when being used with the magnetic keyboard (So I dont touch the tablet)
Best bit about it tho, if you connect a mouse you basicly have a full laptop!!
I'm stoaked.

This works as advertised, though I couldn't check the HDMI. Only one problem: the external power doesn't seem to reach the Pixel C, which makes it kind of useless to me. Not sure where the problem is.
