SymetiumOS - Android General

i hired a freelancer recently to develop a launcher for me based on my symetiumos part of my symetium project www.facebook.com/symetium we used a service called upwork and suddenly he wanted me to pay through western union which is against upwork policies i said i wanted to use upwork so he begun making threats that he would sell my work and release the launcher himself unless i pay him 600 dollars on paypal whithin 2 days upwork specialists are escalating it, so now i am posting about it then again most of this of was already public to begin with ere is a full list of symetiumos and it's features, i wasn't sure on sharing it here as i have no idea what people would think about it as the os is very inconventional, the launcher is a small part of the os itself, do note that i update this list pretty often, i came up with these features myself but i wouldn't be suprised if alot of them already exist this is an operating system of android to turn android into a pc operating system this has been done many times but this is my take on it (i've worked on it for years way before remixos existed for example) for example the navigationbar method is gone unless you enable it, default it uses the same method a pc uses to close an app you press x to minimize you press minimize to resize you press resize, theres no back buttons on pc so why should phones have them? most apps also have their own back buttons now, this is as far away from android as possible as android is used as a base thats it, originally it was supposed to use linux until i realized a phone was able to handle everything i wanted in this os, i am having a rom made now of this os but so far i've heard nothing from that freelancer he gurantees he can do it and he keeps delaying saying he will show me later so i don't hold much hope there.

Code:
----------------------------------------------------------Symetium OS Features------------------------------------------------------
1.minimizing apps will make them appear at the side then fade/swipe away swipe to reveal the apps or move the cursor there
2.app Icons will Group under one Icon in the notifications bar (settings preference) (pressing the icon with a cursor will open the mousefriendly notificationdropdown)
if you swipe on the right side or move with the cursor Icons will appear each Icon is a category under Music goes Music files including Music apps it's a appdrawer/file Explorer/album viewer (swiping on these icons will reveal space for any icons you want) (these icons can also be at the bottom depending on preference or at the top)
3.pressing the settings Icon will show the settings menu and Tools related apps such as calculator etc
4.moving the cursor in the corner of the screen will reveal a circle pressing the circle will open a app drawer for mouseuse this appdrawer also has a searchbar for searching apps or even files, you can also set favorites to appear
5.when dragging down the dropdown menu the background will go blurry if set, all Icons are White and the text is White (as discussed the background can be adjusted through a setting such as blur strenght/transparancy or even a solid color (same applies for window borders) it can also be made to look like stock android if the user prefers.
6. you can enable to hide the NO SIMCARD Icon in the notificationsbar (see additional ideas for more information)
7.you can enable to hide the signalinformation unless it gets bad (not important to include, same applies for battery (see additional ideas for more information)
8.you can move apps around as windows, pushing the app at the top will snap it and maximize it once maximized the top border will show then go away (swipe to reveal it) just like when you play a game or look at a photo) dragging the app window to the bottom will make it red or fade, letting go of it will Close it
9. lockscreen has a Power and restart button, middle button on lockscreen is an arrow, pressing it will reveal set apps such as camera, flashlight etc (any app or button the user wants to add)
10.after inacitivity Everything will fade away leaving only the wallpaper i call this dynamic screensaver (not important to include)
11.another idea i had was adding the phone dialer inside the dropdown menu if you press the phone Icon same with things such as calculator or remote Control for tv
12.as mentiond add an option to revert to stock android in looks (without resetting files or the phone or anything) through an easy setting.
13.apps will run in the background like on a pc, if you have a youtube video playing and you minimize it will continue playing just like on a pc
14.when mhl/usb type c cable has been connected a dialog will pop up asking to select between two 3 modes 1.normal 2.pc mode 3.tv mode
15.add option to enable hotspot disconnect when not charging (hotspot will disable when the charger is removed to prevent draining) (dialog will show in notifications that hotspot is disabled to prevent powerdrain press to enable)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
clarification of adjusting of transparancy, blur strenght, color for borders, notification dropdown menu (this does not apply for the notificationbar unless you can add an option to change each one individually such as notificationdropdown big and small, notificationbar, window borders, category appdrawer background)
transparency (slider)
blur strenght (slider)
color rgb slider and default preset colors
hide (will grey out the sliders)
autoset (this would change the color of all layers depending on wallpaper just like windows does IF POSSIBLE) (slider preferences won't be changed only the color) (this feature can be skipped)
--------------------------------------------------Not very important---------------------------------------------------
14.integrate internet radio based on any internet radio app such as tunein (this would be integrated in the notification dropdown menu when pressing the audio icon)
15.integrate music detection based on any app such as shazam (double tap volume button or press the volume button in the notification dropdown to open the audiomenu) and have a silent detection in the bakground to then notify of which song it is)
16.cursor will be blurry or transparent (option to adjust transparancy, blur strenght as the layers would be great but can be skipped)
17.password protection for turning off the device and for folders if set
18. seperate dpi settings for both mobile and desktop mode aswell as tv mode for example desktop mode is smaller than mobile mode (android n already has dpi settings) (if pc mode is selected then the phone will turn into a touchpad and a keyboard)(keyboard when needed and touchpad at all times)
------------------------------------------------More additional ideas for later ----------------------------------------------------------------------
1. tv mode this would slightly change the ui for tvuse but this can be discussed later
2.when the phone detects usage (activity on the screen) it will display a message during a call rather than ring or vibrate (not important to include)
3.marking or holding on a file or an app on the desktop/homescreen will show a context menu automatically much like nova launcher does
move to (each category for the sidebar, documents, videos, music, tools etc etc)
remove
rename
when you physically move the file or the app the context menu will fade away
4.the keyboard will be transparent and can be moved around like any other window, same layer options apply (not important)
5.when the phone detects a bigger screen it will turn into a touchpad and keyboard (when needed) manually starting this would also work (not important and can be skipped)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
July 8: 6. pinning windows
lock icon in the top bar to freeze an app on the screen both in windowed or fullscreen, for example you can freeze a small movie playing in the corner and it will be like picture in picture ontop of everything, the app will not stay at the top in fullscreen to allow work ontop of the app, when pressing the lock in fullscreen control to the app will be lost the app itself will still be active, essentially turning it into a wallpaper, pressing the home/desktop button will not get rid of the app, dragging/pulling at the top or moving the cursor to the top will reveal buttons to unlock control of the app, in windowed, pressing inside the app will give back control of the app, pressing outside the app will remove control again until unlocked.
(UNCERTAIN IDEA: lock feature only works with the mouse cursor and will not show if a cursor isn't near it)
UNCERTAIN IDEA:settings menu to turn off smart windwow lock in desktop or mobile use this is useful for tablets where smart window lock is useful rather than on a smaller screen when smartlock in mobile is turned off it will only function in fullscreen mode meaning you can drag down the top bar press the lock to lock controls out of the app essentially making it the wallpaper.

How To Flash
Rom is a full wipe if coming from anything other than AllianceROM
You must be using a custom recovery such as TWRP, CWM or Philz. (TWRP is recommended)
If you want to use TWRP but can't seem to find it then attached is the tar file for pc or mobile odin as well as a zip if want to flash it in cwm
It is recommended to check the MD5 checksum to ensure download integrity
Recommended way to flash AllianceROM
Download AllianceROM for I9305
Place zip on internal or external card (Note if using Philz recovery internal card is best if using TWRP either SD is fine)
Download ROM Customizer from the Play Store
Open ROM Customizer and select Flash/Install from Internal or External SD Card (Whichever SD you placed the zip on)
Select your options of which kernel to install, if you want samsung and google apps and if you want to keep the stock theme or flash alliance theme
If first time flashing this ROM then also select Wipe Data/Factory Restore as it is required for first time installation of this ROM otherwise you will encounter some issues and features not working
Select Flash and reboot.
ROM will install.
If any reason phone rebooted into recovery and did not install anything then select wipe data and flash rom from location where you placed it on the phone.
If you don't want to use ROM Customizer to select your options you can reboot into recovery and flash the ROM zip. Default install is Stock Kernel, All Samsung and Google Apps and Stock Theme.
If there is any system apps you wish to uninstall you can do that in ROM Customizer.
The usual flash at your own risk as we are not responsible for any damage caused to your device
Screenshots
F.A.Qs
Is this ROM JKay Compatible?
No, Jkay mod will break a lot of mods in this ROM and is not needed for this ROM as there is a ton of customization already available and no paid apps are needed to change the options available
How do change colours, toggle options etc?
Open Settings and select the My Device tab and open Alliance Control and select Custom Settings
Why after selecting options for ROM in ROM Customizer or downloads in OTA to install my phone reboots into recovery but does not flash?
ROM Customizer works best with an openrecovery script recovery such as TWRP. It is recommended and best if use TWRP with AllianceROM as it will use ROM Customizer to its full ability and be able to flash files from ROM Customizer from either internal or external sd card without issue. I did test to flash ROM with Philz recovery in ROM Customizer and for me it would only work if selecting files on internal sd card.
Why when selecting reboot in ROM Customizer to install phone does not reboot?
If this happens a few things you can try is clear cache, data and force stop ROM Customizer
Remove ROM Customizers Superuser permissions
Uninstall ROM Customizer and reinstall from Play Store
Reboot to recovery and clear cache and dalvik cache
My Camera doesn't work, says camera failed or can not connect, how to fix it?
This appears to be caused by a custom kernel. Flash ROM with the stock kernel and let it boot. Your camera should now work and you can then flash any other kernel you want to use
Why is my settings text black or not visible?
Set a text colour in custom settings and your text will be visible again
Why is there no power menu options?
Go into custom settings/power menu and set which options you want to have in the power menu

Yes. Unless you are reflashing AllianceROM a full wipe is required because some mods are applied to files which wont take effect and cause FCs unless you have full wiped

HTC One: Hide Kid Mode on power menu - this removes the Kid Mode option on the menu displayed when you long press the power button.
HTC One: Match battery image to % - the standard battery images don't correspond to the % remaining, this fixes that.
HTC One: Rename Flashlight to Torch - for us UK types.
HTC One: Show Blinkfeed icon in launcher - if you are using a third party launcher, this provides a simple way to access Blinkfeed. Just remove all the homescreens.

Building from Source:
Requirements:
Linux, (I use Ubuntu, works with other distros, too, but maybe you have to make some changes to the commands)
A working Build Environment, (here is a guide how to set up a Build Environment on Ubuntu)
(needed steps till "Identify Yourself to the Repo")
Create working directory and init repo:
Code:
mkdir ~/Android/Darkkat
(you can use a directory name and path you like, but you have to change the commands to match to your local path)
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat
For Android 4.4.3/4.4.4 version:
Code:
repo init -u git://github.com/XXMrHyde/android.git -b darkkat-4.4.3
For Android 4.4.2 version:
Code:
repo init -u git://github.com/XXMrHyde/android.git -b darkkat-4.4
Sync the repo:
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat && repo sync
(now it`s time to drink a big cup of coffee, tea, or ... this can take some time)
Get the needed binaries for the Nexus 7:
Download from Google Developers:
For 4.4.4:
Nexus 7 (Wi-Fi) binaries for Android 4.4.4 (KTU84P)
For 4.4.3:
Nexus 7 (Wi-Fi) binaries for Android 4.4.3 (KTU84L)
For 4.4.2:
Nexus 7 (Wi-Fi) binaries for Android 4.4.2 (KOT49H))
(all 3 tgz archives)
Extract to the root of your working directory,
Run the scripts:
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat
Code:
./<filename>
(Confirm Licensing Agreement)
Build the rom:
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat && . build/envsetup.sh && brunch flo
(time for the next big cup of coffee, ...)
That`s it,
you (hopefully) compiled successfully your own DarkKat rom
Update the sources:
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat && repo sync
(this time it doesn`t take much time)
Now build again,
(if there are a lot of sourcecode changes, or your last build is some times ago you may need to clean your "out" directory):
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat && . build/envsetup.sh && make clobber
Darkkat Addon

Install SuperSu

Install backup script:

Some infos:
General:
If you don`t like you don`t have to use the addon,
but take a look at post #2 "Installation" -> "Without DarkKat Addon"
You only have to flash the addon one time, (if you choose to install the backup scripts),
all your custom changes will be restored after an update.
The Darkkat Addon will work with all Darkkat Builds,
you don`t have to look at the addon date and rom date.
Additional Apps:
Don`t use the addon to update the apps, (this should be done via Play Store)
There is no need to install apps which are already installed.

Well, for a guy who seemed reluctant to put out a new 4.4 rom, this is a great rom with everything working. I like the fact that you included the new Google and Launcher. Thank you very much. Will donate.
Thanks, I don't have a donate account, so just hit the thanks button,

Happen to go into language and input? For whatever reason I always loose back button when I do that on a fresh build, or have aosp and Google keyboards selected but blacked out. Just click Google voice typing, then unselect. Back should work again.
Some how fixed itself with a reboot.Running as a second rom on multirom.

Requirements:
A fast desktop CPU, (or a very fast mobile CPU, better use a PC)
Enough RAM, (8 - 16 GB)
A up to date Linux, (I use Ubuntu 14.04, works with other distros, too, but maybe you have to make some changes to the commands)
A working Build Environment, (here is a guide how to set up a Build Environment on Ubuntu)
(needed steps till "Identify Yourself to the Repo")
Of course it`ll work on slow hardware, too,
but it takes a lot more time.
Create working directory and init repo:
Code:
mkdir ~/Android/Darkkat
(you can use any directory name and path you like, but you have to change the commands to match to your local path)
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat
Code:
repo init -u git://github.com/XXMrHyde/android.git -b darkkat-5.1
Sync the repo:
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat && repo sync
(now it`s time to drink a big cup of coffee, tea, or ... this can take some time)
Setting up ccache, (optional):
I recommend to use ccache,
if you have enough free space on your SSD/HDD, (about 50 GB).
Using ccache will speed up the building times,
(first build will take longer, because the cchache will be created).
For me, (clean build)
first build/without ccache:
about 45 - 55 minutes
following builds, with ccache:
about 10 - 17 minutes
Code:
gedit .bashrc
and add this line to the bottom:
Code:
export USE_CCACHE=1
the default ccache directory is located at the root of your home directory,
if you like a different location add this line, too;
Code:
export CCACHE_DIR=<path-to-your-cache-directory>
Now run the following command:
Code:
~/Android/Darkkat/prebuilts/misc/linux-x86/ccache/ccache -M 50G
Build the rom:
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat && . build/envsetup.sh && brunch flo
(time for the next big cup of coffee, ...)
That`s it,
you (hopefully) compiled successfully your own DarkKat rom
Update the sources:
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat && repo sync
(this time it doesn`t take much time)
Now build again,
(if there are a lot of sourcecode changes, or your last build is some times ago you may need to clean your "out" directory):
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat && . build/envsetup.sh && make clobber
At last!...?
Thanks for your hard work...
You are welcome

Incorrect screen coordinates when moving status tiles
Thank you! Great job!
One minor issue: in Settings->Status bar expanded->Quick settings->Select and order tiles, the screen coordinates are incorrect. I have to touch far away from any given tile in order to move it ... seems like it's offset by around 2 tile widths to the left.
I have seen this same problem in another 5.0.x ROM (I don't remember which one, unfortunately).
But anyway, thank you for all your work on this!
.
Thanks,
but it isn't a "minor issue", it's a " no go". Unfortunately, I only tested the tiles arrangement on N4/5/6, I can't imagine it doesn't work on the N7 if its working fine on all my other devices, (yes it's a tablet and not a phone), sorry about that.
I already found the fix, (I guess).
If everything went well, an update will be available in the evening (CET).

Well, it's "minor" for me, because once I figured out the coordinate offset needed, I was still able to manipulate the tiles.
Of course, your considering it a "no go" demonstrates your sense of responsibility and desire for correct functionality, which are admirable and much appreciated.
.
you still building? well if you build, then i will flash!
Of course.

Nice ROM
Very nice ROM. Running smooth so far. Thank you!
Only one niggle, in statusbar settings "Network Symbol" may have missed some translation along the way.
It says "Netzwerk Symbole".
Not a big deal though, just a heads up.
Thanks again
Yes, the default translation is missing, I'm currently working on a fix for the Quick settings arrangement bug, this fix will also include the right default translation.

Thank you very much!
How do we apply the patch? The update zip looks like it just contains Settings.apk and an install script.
.
Yes, it's a flashable zip, just flash in recovery. It only updates Settings.apk, no need to flash a complete rom.

When I flashed just the update in recovery (TWRP) and then rebooted, it caused the device to come up in a strange mode. It immediately went into the default lock screen, but I couldn't unlock it. I normally have the lock screen set to "None" because I use an external locker (Widget Locker). Not sure what to do now.
???
PS: I get a msg saying "swipe up to lock" near the little padlock at the bottom. When swiping up, I get a password prompt. But I have never set any password and don't use a password lock, so I am permanently locked out now. What password should I use?
PPS: I tried my google account password, but it doesn't work.
.
Very strange, I just downloaded the patch and flashed it with TWRP, no problems, my lock screen is set to "Swipe", I don't use an external lock screen. Can you reinstall the rom, disable Widget Lock", and reinstall the patch, (if this is possible at all). I didn't changed anything related to the lock screen security

Well, I got impatient, so I already jumped in and did the following ROM-file surgery ...
1. unzip dk-5.0.2-20150125-RELEASE-flo.zip into an empty directory
2. extract Settings.apk from the update zip and us it to overwrite system/priv-app/Settings/Settings.apk in the extract
3. rezip the altered ROM into dk-5.0.2-20150125-RELEASE-flo-update.zip
4. do a full wipe and reinstall
5. reinstall gapps and supersu
6. reboot
It came up fine, and the QS tiles are working properly now.
What I did might have been overkill, but it worked.
Thank you again.
Onward!

Something unrelated:
After I had been running the earlier version of this ROM for a while, a white star appeared in the Status Bar, to just the left of the WiFi icon. I never saw that before, on any other ROM, including any other 5.0.x ROM I have tried. I couldn't find any setting which causes that star to appear.
Now, on this latest install, that star is absent. However, I would be willing to bet that it will appear a little later.
Does anyone know what that star represents?
.
---------- Post added at 08:53 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:54 PM ----------
That white star returned after a reboot (maybe the 3rd or 4th reboot after installing the updated ROM).
That star seems to be associated with notification sounds being muted.
Even though I have notifications set to full volume, and even though audio, video soundtracks, and alarms play properly, and even though I am not in Silent Mode, notification sounds are not playing any more, and their disappearance is precisely associated with the appearance of that white star to the left of the WiFi icon in the status bar.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
.
---------- Post added at 08:59 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:53 PM ----------
OK. I figured out the white star. It means that notifications have been blocked. There are three notification settings, "None", "Priority", and "All". Apparently, after reboot, the notification state got changed from "All" to "None".
This can be changed back to "All" by opening up the notification bar and then using the Volume button to switch between these three notification states.
The questions I have, however, are ...
... what caused the notification state to change to "None" during restart?
... is there a setting that permanently controls this notification state? I couldn't find any such setting.
Thanks in advance for any insights.
.
elementalX kernel?
Can anyone see a problem with flashing the latest elementalX kernel along with this ROM? (the 5.0.x AOSP version of elementalX)
Thanks in advance.

Code:
repo init -u git://github.com/XXMrHyde/android.git -b darkkat-6.0
Sync the repo:
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat && repo sync
(now it`s time to drink a big cup of coffee, tea, or ... this can take some time)
Setting up ccache, (optional):
I recommend to use ccache,
if you have enough free space on your SSD/HDD, (about 50 GB).
Using ccache will speed up the building times,
(first build will take longer, because the cchache will be created).
For me, (clean build)
first build/without ccache:
about 45 - 55 minutes
following builds, with ccache:
about 10 - 17 minutes
Code:
gedit .bashrc
and add this line to the bottom:
Code:
export USE_CCACHE=1
the default ccache directory is located at the root of your home directory,
if you like a different location add this line, too;
Code:
export CCACHE_DIR=<path-to-your-cache-directory>
Now run the following command:
Code:
~/Android/Darkkat/prebuilts/misc/linux-x86/ccache/ccache -M 50G
Build the rom:
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat && . build/envsetup.sh && brunch hammerhead
(time for the next big cup of coffee, ...)
That`s it,
you (hopefully) compiled successfully your own DarkKat rom
Update the sources:
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat && repo sync
(this time it doesn`t take much time)
Now build again,
(if there are a lot of sourcecode changes, or your last build is some times ago you may need to clean your "out" directory):
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat && . build/envsetup.sh && make clobber
Thanks...always liked work. Will flash & let you know how it goes...
Thanks again.
I think the wrong md5 hash is provided for the 12/08/2015. I got:
d1a88ab72f2bc2641a3b991283442bce
I checked my local zip, md5 hash is: 4a57762b76e723889c389e31a4d97a71
and also downloaded the zip and checked again, md5 hash is 4a57762b76e723889c389e31a4d97a71, too.
I recommend to download the zip again.

Redownloaded, matched the second time. Nice ROM so far, going to run it today and report back. Thanks.
Will give it a try too!
Great so far...no issues at all for me....
Thanks for you efforts...
Edit: OK..seems to an intermittent issue with status bar display. No big deal, but on the home screen the status bar shows my battery at 27%. However, when I use the pulldown menu it reports 83% (the correct value). As I said, this is an intermittent problem, sometimes it's OK.
Cheers.

or we can use xposed
What is V4A?
Possibly xposed will work (in this case), but be careful, this rom isn't made to work with xposed.

Installation:
Take a look at the updated installation instructions at post #2,
(especially "Gapps" and "Root")
Some infos about this Update:
ALPHA/BETA/RELEASE builds:
In general, all builds are comming with the RELEASE tag
(in the rom name), but I wont mention the RELEASE tag,
but if the rom is a ALPHA/BETA build,
mostly on major Android version updates, 5 -> 6,
(possibly 6.0 -> 6.1) and/or the roms additional features are in
ALPHA/BETA stage, (which is the case with first builds on new Android versions),
I`ll mention the ALPHA/BETA stage of the rom.
Lock sreen shortcuts, (default at the bottom):
Related to the installed Gapps package,
the left shortcut, (phone or voice assist)
is possibly always hidden, even if the device supports phone calls.
I have to take a deeper look into it,
to fix the phone shortcut on devices with phone calls support,
if the used Gapps package doesn`t include the needed files for the voice assist.
And also fix the available shortcuts at Settings.

Updated the Installation instructions, (again),
related to secondary rom installations via MultiRom,
sorry about this.
Thanks for the update...loved this ROM from way back...
Thanks again.
Got around to trying the latest earlier this morning. Good will report back if I see any issues, but none so far, pretty snappy ROM too.
