3.5mm IR universal remote adapter, low profile - Fire Accessories

hello i am looking for a low profile 3.5mm headphone jack IR emitter
i really like this one
http://www.ebay.com/itm/3-5mm-IR-Sm...964868?hash=item1c60135884:g:iWYAAOSwuYVWoAqP
i love the design of it and it is the only one i can find ,well one of the only ones i can find with a low profile that does not stick way our and look ridiculous (the other one looks nearly identical and comes witha keychain holder but the edge had rough spikes and it does not have BMW logo looking front face ,but appears to run on the same app ,but says IOS only)
problem i see many similar looking ones ,there are few on amazon that look the same but have different names and different branding, but they all seem to use the same app i guess, limited to only be able to be used with that one app
the other problem is that i see some that say it does not work with android and some that say it does and then the ones that say it works with android say it only works with certain phones
my question is does this work with android and will it work with this tablet? anyone tried one of these yet?
i do not understand why it would work with some phones/devices and not for others
i mean the app should run the same on all phones/ android devices and the 3.55 mm headphone jack can't be all that different from device to to device
but i have seen a bunch of mixed reviews from people saying it is either great or that it sucks and will not even work on any IOS device, i really want this product , i would like to use it on my fire 7 but also on my iphone 5c and i plan on upgrading to a nexus 6p soon so would like to know if anyone has used one of these and has tried it on any of those devices , but primarily right now i wont it for the fire, would be great since 3.55mm is at the top and this is nice and low profile
most of the ebay auctions and amazon ads for these say IOS only , but he app it uses is available for android as well and this one in the link i posted say it does work with android, most other say no android
the fire 7 i feel is a good shot since it does not have any fancy 3.55mm jack maybe the phones that don't work are because their jacks have mic support through the jack?
can anyone figure out why it would work with some phones and not others by looking at the list of supported devices in the link i provided and maybe tell if the fire 7 uses a similar jack as the list of supported devices or one that is the same as the listed devices that are specifically stated as not working?

I think for under 5 bucks, it's worth buying just to test yourself!

i know the thing is that there are so many that look nearly identical but have different brand names
5 or 6 bucks yes, some are nine or ten, and i know i will be protected by ebay or amazon the thing is that i would like to know if there is a dimes worth a difference between them all and if someone has already had a good experience with a particular one, i am not going to order the 10 or 15 different variations and test them all , just wondering if anyone has one , the fire 7 is a great device to use as a remote i use it for my other sony tv and my receiver both have wifi control apps and for my hue lights ,but there are a couple of things i can't control like my cable box and my old plasma tv
i am still swimming in remotes this thing would be a big help

Yeah I see your concern. Good luck in your search, sorry I can't help. Update if you ever figure it out though!

ok my IR emitter came in the mail today ,tested it on my iphone 1st, it didn't work on my panasonic TV but it works on my comcast motorola cable box and my LG air conditioner
then i tried it on the fire tablet ,the device is detected the headphone icon shows in resurrection remix rom
the zaza remote app says not compatible with your device in the app store so i downloaded it through blackmart and it installed
the android version is completely different from the IOS vesion
i tried to set it up to work with the cable box but i had no luck at all
i wonder why it won't work when the emitter is in it shows up as headphones plugged in ,i wonder if this app could be modified to work or if there is another app that works with this particular emitter ,this app kinda sucks a major brand like panasonic should have a working code, i cant even get power button working after going through all codes, the learning feature is useless and the forum is all in chinese, thought i cant see how this little thing could be used to detect IR signals i thought it was just a IR LED, when i try the learning feature it does not always detect the signal from the remote and sometimes it says signal detected when i have not even pressed any button on the remote some times it delays and don't say detected signal for minutes but every time it does and i try to play it back it never works

It is possible the jack on the fire is simply not passing enough voltage or is not passing it consistently enough. Many of these little IR dongles like this include a small button battery and transistor to make them work because of this common issue. Or it could legitimately be an issue with either the fire's hardware/firmware drivers specifically, or all of android in general if there is that much difference between the android and ios versions of the app.

If you don't have enough power for IR LED you can use VIPER4Android to amplify signal.

[Q] Definitive answer on In-Line volume controls

Hi All,
I've searched on this topic - both here and on Google - and I cannot find a definitive answer for this question:
"Is it possible to make "standard" in-line volume controls work with Android, specifically the Nexus 5"
There are lots of posts discussing this topic and lots of suggestions of apps that make the center button do different things - but that is not the same thing.
I'm starting to realise that this is probably yet another missing feature from Android that I am going to have to deal with until Google bother to fix it (along with missing unread/missed call badges, universal volume controls etc) but unlike those issues, there doesn't appear to even be a 3rd party app/plugin/patch to fix this one.
I know that most in-line remotes are pretty standard and the ones I am using (Sony XBA2s) work fine with my old iPhone, LG MP3 player, windows laptop, my old creative Zen, my girlfriends windows phone etc...they just don't work with the Nexus 5.
So to be clear then, 2 questions here:
1) Is there a way to fix this - installing an app/patch/whatever?
2) If not, why is this so difficult/impossible to fix? I could understand there not being an "official" way if Google neglected to include this in their APIs, but I can't even find a solution for rooted phones.
Fast loosing faith in the whole "you can do anything with Android" line that i've been fed over the years - doesn't seem to different to Apple when "you can do anything with Android, as long as it's supported".
edit: Forgot to make it clear that the center button seems to work fine and that the microphone works perfectly - it is just the volume controls that don't....so I think the TRRS wiring is all correct (otherwise the Mic wouldn't work, right?)
I feel the same frustration as you on this subject. All i can tell you is some in-line remotes work and some don't. iPhone compatible ones don't although the Center Button alone usually works. Those made specifically for Android do. Of those in the latter group, you get Centre Button control, (Play/Pause or Answer/End Call), and Volume Up + Volume Down on the other two buttons. Press and hold Centre Button is always Google Search. There is no native multiple click functionality. For that you need an app.
Samsung's earphones for the S3/S4 have all 3 buttons working as described above.
A lot of the major models now come in an Android variety. I ordered these over the weekend:
http://amzn.com/B006Y3IDX8
Hoping all is working once I get them tomorrow.
I can confirm that the following headset's 3 buttons work just fine !
HTC RC e240 (Play/Pause, Vol+,Vol-) These earbuds do have the best bang/buck ratio ! Highly recommended !
The cheap as hell Samsung EHS64AVFWE als work fine ! These can be bought for 4 euros incl p&p in germany. They aren't that bad !
Thanks for the replies - i'll have to do some more research I think, I can't abide cheap headphones..I much prefer good quality in-earcanal ones (IEMs). These only cost me £60 as I got them in a sale, but £60 is £60...and at this time of year I don't want to shell out another £60-£100 for a reasonable set, let along the £200+ i'd need to spend for a really good pair
Replacing these is not really an option for me..I have a workaround for now by using my Pebble with MusicBoss to control volume - but it would be nice to get the basic method working. Will need to research a little deeper and try to see why some work and some don't...

The ones I mentioned from Logitech indeed pause/answer calls with the inline button/mic. Win.
the phone has to support it. i believe the nexus 5 does. older phones... not so much... i think samsung started on the gs3. and lg has it atleast on the g2 but maybe on the g. but the standard is different from iphone. the iphone controller has capacitors and a little ic but it's too small to read the part number. it would seem the iphone works off a pulsing signal. but android works off a resistor value. so you would need a set compatible with a gs3/4 or htc one or lg g2.

Szsion dual core A9 android 4.2 1024x600 car radios

Szsion (i am not allowed to post links, google it, the first match is the one) produces quite nice android only (no ce) car navis that fit the design of different cars (audi, VW, mercedes, BMW, Kia, opel and many more).
I bought the Audi A3 version which looks quite like my now obsolete audi rns-e navigation plus.
I assume that the radios are technically all the same with different CAM bus boxes on the back and different designs. Sporting MStar SoCs (subsidary of Mediatek) they have a CPU powerful enough for car radio tasks and have a quite nice display.
I am also happy with the radio reception, which is as good as my original audi device. also i bought a realtek based dVB-T stick which enables me to use SDR along with digital radio, tv and FM in even better quality.
Navigation is VERY accurate, I even play ingress on it
The only issues I have at the moment is CAN bus support, which is because I got a pre-sale sample with some firmware problems regarding can bus support and I can't turn display brightness to full at the momenr, but that could be fixed with a new software.
So , do you guys know something about those devices ? Anybody else owns one? I just saw that DX.COM is also selling them, so chances are that I am not the only one with this nice device..

As a trading company selling car multimedia since 2007, we purchased some samples on may 15 ( all with either 8 Gb or 16 Gb storage memory). We are still expecting to see the first units....nothing has been shipped till now....
Also : SION shares it's office address with ZHINAVI, selling same units with another interface....please check what you'll find in XDA forums about this company...I don't want to comment publicly, only in private messages if you want.... For me they are sisters companies, even if SION denies it....I am rather anxious about this....

Don't worry about not getting the devices. They exist
It seems that they are having some trouble with CAN conectivity which they claim is a software issue. I insisted on getting my device anyway and putting on software updates later on. Linkey is very nice if you ask her ...
They could also send me just 4gig model since 8 and 16 are not available yet.
They could, however communicate the problems a little more and not letting us wait 2 months without delivery, a mail saying that it will take some time would be nice...
The launcher they use is very nice, like on the pictures. The cpu is powerful enough for car tasks, gps is awesome. I have the best snr i ever had on any of my android devices.
Dvd playback works, radio is good. As I already said.
Anbody knows a rooting technique that MAY work with the mstar cpu?
I have been following these units as well. I have asked for a video of the interface so that I could see performance. Instead of doing a walk-thru like most companies, I got this, that I uploaded to YouTube.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHl2ZaDq3iw
I have also asked about unlocking the bootloader. It seems that the manufacture is interested in modifying his code to Android 5.x I told him if he opened up 100% of the source code to XDA, not only would he have a stable build of 5.x, but he would also have the best selling unit on XDA. I havent heard any more back.
I bought and received one of these for my 2006 Audi A4. It's working alright, sill trying to integrate steering wheel controls and the rear speakers aren't working, these two items aren't huge for me so I'm happy with the purchase so far. Also, I ordered and received the item within a week, crazy fast

Hi Riley!
Do any of your CANBUS features work or is it just the SWC that dors not work?
Also, how happy are you with the display brightness? Mine's way too dim for daylight use. At night, the display is very nice and sharp with beautiful living color, but with sunlight it really sucks so bad you almost can't see anything.
What's your software version?
I forgot to mention how AWESOME it would be to have source code access for this device.
KICK-ASS!
Anybody got an idea how I could try to enhance the display brightness?

I have similar unit for Audi A4 2002 model, rear speakers were not working but got around that by connecting the rear aux outputs left and right to the cables for aux inputs left and right!
I also have trouble with the Canbus support and the LED lights on the unit do not go off when the unit is powered down. Thats not good news for my battery. However the unit is very quick and GPS works smoothly....

Baidu Root works just fine.
The display is not great in the sunlight. I also think the colors are a bit washed out. The radio tries to turn on the back up camera when I go in reverse and the led lights turn off when I turn off the headlights, so I assume the canbus is working. I think the swc is a wire harness issue, I'm going to check it out when I feel brave enough.

Those with Audis, how does the plastic of the radio match the dash?? The HuiFei unit was a glossy and didn't really match the matte factory finish
It looks great against the dash, like it belongs.

Side Note... Those with the Audi that are having speaker issues. 99% of the time this is because the right harness combo is not hooked up. I worked in car stereo for years and tell you the Audi harnesses can be tricky. Sometimes you need to have speaker wires only, sometimes you need to use the RCA jack harness, and sometimes you need to use both.
DO NOT PM asking me to help with your car. This is nothing something that can be troubleshot over the internet. Has to be done in person. Your best best is too pull your radio out and the harness, You should have a separate harness that plugs into the back of the radio giving you RCA output. You will need to take these outputs and try plugging into the harness that goes into the car. A combo of these, should cause all speakers to work.
---------- Post added at 10:06 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:54 PM ----------
One more question for the Audi guys. The 4 buttons around the volume knob. Can you program these to do certain functions? i.e. One to be home, one to be radio, one to GPS, last one to be Google Music for example.
The default is home, gps, secondary menu and radio. I haven't figured out how to change them yet though
Sent from my SCH-I545 using XDA Free mobile app
Ok, it might be a hack to change them then. Im waiting to order mine as the harness shown to come with the radio is not the harness I need for my Audi. Also been told that the new versions work fine with the SWC. Once I see a picture of what harnesses come with the new versions, I will make my final decision.
Anyone want to install CPU-Z to see what the actual hardware specs are??

If you do while on Wi-Fi, online validation will upload the specs and you can share the URL

Interesting it couldnt read the Frequency of the CPU... :-/
You can change the button layout by going to the calculator and type in !(123)= or !(786)=(look what works for you) and then chose the 4th option.
Can anybody share me the gps program they got with there device, mine was navione and its in chinese i dont understand anything of it.
Thanks in advance

Really cool idea and I'd buy one if I didn't already have a Nexus 5, Nexus 7, Chromecast, a Slimport cable, and a PS3 controller. With all that, the possibilities are vast. If playing a game, I'll use my N5, hook it up to the TV via Slimport, and use my PS3 controller. If watching a show, I'll just cast my screen via Chromecast, with the option of using the Slimport cable.
So since the controller is Bluetooth Smart, I can sync it with my phone and tablet, right? Typical Bluetooth syncing process? A spare controller might be a nice little plus to convince me to buy a (another) little gadget device. Like I said, it's a neat idea but I definitely don't need it.
Quite interesting that it's using a Intel processor. Wonder how that will perform. Also any micro SD slot?

Yes, there's a similar question i got:
does it have a usb host port?
As the specs don't mention one (like the sd-slot) i guess there won't be one, what makes sense if you think about their interest in people streaming stuff from google play...
Amazon blocks usb mass storage and google doesn't even add a port, what also makes usb gamecontrollers unusable...
I'll most likely buy one at some point to replace my Roku, but one of the important apps to me is the WWE Network app, and I highly doubt WWE will care enough about their app to update for compatibility with Android TV any time soon. So, I'll have to hold out until they support Android TV.
There is a mini usb port. External storage?
Sigh. Google, y u hate Ethernet?
Another stationary device that eats up wifi bandwidth to save on a 50 cent Gig-E port. Its just plain dumb.
Is there any official information about European availability?
Does it support HDMI-CEC?
I'll get one to replace the Chromecast in our living room. Will be really nice to have a remote to, for example, pause if I get a call. Try to do that on your phone while casting something..
If it hasn't got HDMI-CEC.. that would just be stupid. Hope it has.
Doesn't bother me that it hasn't got wired Ethernet. My WiFi is excellent and I can easily get +600Mbps real performance on my laptop and +250Mbps on my Nexus 5 so the AC-chip on this will do for all my streaming needs and then some.
Any information yet which formats are supported? Is it like chromecast limited to h264 and aac or can it play mkv files with dvd MPEG streams? (how I store my DVD library currently in plex)

My problem is that I don't live by myself, and we live in a relatively high density area (~3k to ~4k sq ft houses on 60 ft lots). We have three tablets, two ipod touches, two smartphones, occasionally a laptop or two. I have really good wifi coverage (using ubiquiti APs). But my next door neighbors media room is really close to our master bedroom suite and she uses wireless for everything (which is ridiculous...my old company wired her house...I know she has a lan drop in her media room, lol). So she constantly pegs 1 and 11 in 2.4 GHz. So I use 6 on that side of the house. But I can see at least 4 other APs from my neighbors on 6, and that's just those that broadcast. Our phones are are the only two AC devices we currently have.
It would probably be OK on AC. I have one AC AP and my family room cabinets where my equipment is in is only about 20 feet from the AP through wood cabinet doors. But add in a cheapo GigE port and there is nothing to worry about at all. Again, its a stationary device, no reason to use wifi. I think the issue is that these devices are developed by people who live in rented apartments or in parts of the world where adding a lan drop in a home is cost prohibitive (concrete walls, etc.). It never occurs to them that a huge portion of their target audience has a wired lan in their home.

I would not be supprised, WWE app has been on Fire TV for a while. It should not take much, if any, reconfiguring to add it to the play store for the player.
Just heard about this. Interesting indeed. I am in the UK and have got an Amazon Fire TV on preorder (released 23rd Oct) not sure whether to ditch that pre-order and go for this or keep the AFTV.
No ethernet is a bummer, but I'm still looking forward to it
need to find the perfect Plex box
I'm going to be pre-ordering one tomorrow as soon as they become available for pre-order... If I'm still awake by midnight, might do it then.
The lack of Ethernet port is truly a bummer, but I guess I will try to get another device off my Wi-Fi lol

To each their own but it's funny imo how people could pass up on a phone cause they won't be able to turn on/off their TV with their phones. Guess it's very tiring and troublesome picking up the TV controller to do that.

Exactly! That is the reason the IR blaster is so useful. I suspect many of the people who don't find it useful, don't have young children. Anyway a Logitech Harmony Hub is a good replacement for the IR blaster.
I have young children... There are more ways to fix it other than an ir blaster... Grounding them from the TV if they lose the remote worked for me, very quickly too.

I never could get used to using a flat slate of glass to control the TV, I can use a remote eyes free, can't do that with my phone.

smh
I was using my LG G2's IR blaster about once or twice a month, when I was too lazy to pick up the remote from 2-3 meters away from my home desk. The best use for it was at the gym when I could switch the TVs to my preferred news channel during the pre-elections
No phone is without compromises but it seems the S7 Edge has the fewest. I'll gladly switch my G2 for it
there are little small 3.5mm headphone jack like devices that add the ir hardware to your phone, some work well some don't, just search on ebay and aliexpress, Kickstarter etc, but yeah i agree with others that the core issue is not the lack of ir but the lack of proper remote controller usage from the kids
Not a deal breaker for me, gonna happily give it up going from my Note 3 to the S7E, nice upgrade for me, although my Note 3 is still tried and true, snappy and running fine.
However, FYI, not just for TVs, IR was also useful with the Beep'nGo app to store my grocery loyalty cards where many cashier scanners don't work with bar codes, but do work with the IR blaster. Countless cashiers were always amazed when they grabbed my phone to hand enter the loyalty number and I told them "I have a special phone, just scan it" and it worked.

My main problem with the TV controller is the children routinely lose it, so instead of spending time looking under the furniture and in other rooms I could always just use my phone. Not denying laziness, just not entirely the case in this instance!

I understand, that's why I said to each their own since we all have different approaches and from what you're saying I do understand how bothersome that can be, I genuinely hate sitting in my bed under the sheets and losing the remote. But I believe passing on a phone like S7E because of a missing IR blaster isn't a great of a move, mostly because chances of flagship phones being released with an IR blaster are less likely to happen in the future so you would have to stick with either an old phone or a medium performance phone that still happens to be released with an IR blaster, but who knows maybe Samsung will bring it back again.

Thanks. I see your point. I still want an S7 edge, just was a little disappointed. Sure looks like a great phone.

while it was a waste of space in your opinion there are several, like me who utilized it to the fullest. I still ordered the s7 edge but will have to transition to my note 10.1 2014 tablet to use now for ir blaster. I purchased the best remote app out there and have all kinds of macros set up for convenience. Below are just three that I have set up.
TV ON - turn on tv, dish hopper, audio amp.
TV Off - turn off tv, dish hopper, audio amp.
Kid- turn on tv, dish hopper, audio amp and change to disney.
I also have six different entertainment systems set up on this so I never have to look for a remote when I go into a different room.
Example. Kid passes out watching Frozen because that is about the only way I can get her to sleep. Instead of waking her while looking for remote I peek my phone in and turn off her tv and blu ray player.. Problem Solved..
They do serve a purpose and I was very upset when they took it off the s6+ and didn't bring it back... Especially when they are so cheap of an addon.

Vice Style Gamepad

Hi guys,
Wondering if any one had any suggestions for a compact but solid and reliable gamepad (vice-style) that fits and works well with this phone.
I had a Razer Phone 2 with the Razer Junglecat before this phone and I am used to this quality build - if anyone has ideas would be appreciated.
thanks
I am waiting for the razer kishi to be released : https://www.razer.com/eu-en/gaming-controllers/razer-kishi
It's build in collaboration with the guys from gamevice.

What type of gaming do you do on your phone?
---------- Post added at 11:29 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:24 PM ----------
Looking at stadia is it any good? Would be good to pair with a game pad like that
This razer kishi is built especially for cloud gaming thanks to its zero latency USB-c connection to the phone.
No Bluetooth required.
Yeah....well the whole reason I wrote this thread is because I am sick and tired of waiting for the Razer damn Kishi to come out....was announced ages ago ...been waiting and waiting too long
I'm also impatiently waiting.
The Glap controller though bulky could probably do the trick. https://www.samsung.com/uk/mobile-accessories/glap-gamepad/

this looks very good!!
Yes it doesnt look that portable (especially as i am used to the jungle cat which took up less space than my wallet!!)
However if i was to get something this big i am a bit fussy with the right analogue stick i prefer it below the buttons just like the Xbox style...this is what i am used to.
I already have one that looks very similar to this as well - the IPEGA PG-9023...it was also a lot cheaper!!
Would the Samsung have much better build quality and lag-free connection?
Also a question - is the Razer Kishi going to be wired only or will there be a Bluetooth option?
I have never used any Ipega products but I have heard that the controllers suffer from analog stick dead zones which are not present in the Glap.
According to the Verge's article, the kishi has no built-in battery. It will use the phones power so it's very unlikely that it will have Bluetooth.
Been looking at reviews on Youtube - the one below looks like a pretty good bet - he says the Coolpad Legacy fits in perfectly and Oneplus 8 Pro has pretty close dimensions to that

Yes you are right they do. the difference between my junglecat and the ipega is so noticable. the junglecat is so responsive......i also have a Moga Hero Power which i think is excellent - however this has now become a legacy product and you cant even get the app on the play store anymore and you need it to connect the game pad - i have to download the apk manually to get it paired...but it is very good!
If the junglecat doesnt have a built in battery then forget it
I've been using the ipega extendible for a while now. I have the Moga pro, out of the two of them i prefer the ipega, plus it was only £20 Vs £49.99
That razer device looks like it's going to fall apart. The ipega is solid, it can hold an iPad.

which razer device are you referring to? I have the junglecat and can confirm it is solid as a rock, zero latency, and the button are perfect.

The one listed. Buttons look good but the middle section doesn't. The ipega is built like a tank.
Latency is extremely low.
I've used a tonne of pads and that's the best one up until now.

First off, calm down ok? Theres no need to act the way you are, alright?
Secondly the one I was referring to was the kishi, it looks like it's going to have problems, the construction of the middle isn't great.
3rd, I've got the ipega extendible, not sure if you've had this one but I do, there are no problems with input lag, depending on how you've set it up, the analogues can be seen as digital, I haven't set mine up like that, no problems with deadzones, I've finished tonnes of games using it
Thats my input, you asked for a vice like controller..is there any need to bash a suggestion? Or talk the way you are? Several ?????? It's childish, you didn't mention what controllers you'd used besides one.
Perhaps you could be clearer when you articulate yourself during thread creation, if you don't like a suggestion then say so, no need to bash it, try to be polite
I'm pretty calm mate ...all good
Yeah i got the extendible as well... joysticks are so far off its a killer for me. All depends on the quality you're used to i guess....IMO u get what u pay for in general and thats why Ipega stuff is so cheap

Good to know you have no issues with your Ipega. That being said, Razer is a gaming company and they have an awesome track record when it comes to some of the best build quality out there.
I use cloud gaming services quite a lot and having the lowest latency means plugging in my computer to a gigabit Ethernet port and using a wired xbox controller.
If you want the best possible experience on android the same applies here, a physical USB-C connection to the phone will always be better than Bluetooth IMO. When cloud gaming, Bluetooth adds an extra layer of latency; with time this will get better but for now that's how it is.
I guess its up to the buyer to determine if the price of the Kishi is worth it

I agree I game on PC, I wouldn't dream of partying using wireless.
That being said I've had no issues with the ipega, perhaps it's unit based, even the 1+8pro has differences between units, green tint, touch lag, camera flares.
If the razer device works for you then stick with that.
If it suits your needs the the price is collateral
