Verizon extra data - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Guides, News, & Dis

Extra 2GB of data (the way the wording is sounds like 2GB total, not per month) for using android pay.
Verizon Offers Up To 2GB Of Free Data To Customers Who Use Android Pay http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/AndroidPolice/~3/wPyrloJsJVI/
Would this entice you to use it if you didn't already? For myself it wouldn't, as its only a one time thing, but I already use android pay and Samsung pay.
Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk

I wouldn't do it.. Not really worth it for me anyway.. 2GB for only 2 billing cycles. I guess if you're a heavy data user then it would be good though.

I ended up getting the 2GB per line extra for life, that was a much better deal. It was the only reason I ended up selling my unlimited plan.

The new price plans are equivalent to the old "even more plus" plan. Except with a 2yr contract now. Existing customers that had service for @ least 90 days can switch to these plans..the big difference is you lose out your discounted upgrade when eligible..phones are purchased at full retail price with the option to finance the phone by adding $10-$15 a month on your bill..same goes for new activations.

You can change plans anytime you want, and it won't affect your 2 year contract or upgrade eligibility. You do need to keep a data plan if you are on contract with a smart phone, otherwise the lowest cost plan available will hold up your end of a contract.
I know where I am going on monday. I just got my phone in the middle of June so there should not be an issue with me getting this plan.
Actually, this is my plan, just 20 bucks cheaper now.
Yeh, thanks for posting this. I just signed up on the 13th of June, and this new plan offers me the same that I have now for $20 less. Unlimited talk, text, and data, throttled after 2GB/month. I will be looking for customer service next week.
I could switch, but my 5GB before throttle would go down to 2GB, not that it matters now because I'm stuck on 2G, but if I move... I might miss that extra 3GB, but is it worth $20 more?
T-Mobile is set to announce Wednesday that it plans to cut the price of its smartphone plans. Most significantly, its mid-tier plan--which includes unlimited phone calls, text messages, and data--drops by $20 to $59.99 a month. In comparison, Sprint's comparable plan--which includes unlimited data, text, and calls to other cell phones--costs $69.99 a month.
For heavier data users, T-Mobile offers a $74.99 plan with an allotment of 5 gigabytes of data before throttling, which is $15 less than before. It also offers a lower-end, data-less plan for $49.99 with unlimited phone calls and text messages. That plan was previously $65. If you choose to pay for the phone through monthly installments, you can sign up for a 200-megabyte data option for $5 a month. Traditional contract customers can get the same option for $10 a month. The plans will be available on July 24.

Ah let's see. I'm paying $80 now for 1500 minutes, unlimited texts, 5 GB of data
With the new plan:
unlimited minutes, unlimited texts, 2GB data for $60
unlimited minutes, unlimited texts, 5GB data for $75
Wow, even switching to the new plan at 5GB is cheaper! I might as well switch to 2GB until my city gets 3G then up to 5GB later...
Is there any catch to these new plans?
so basically if we bought our phones on the $79.99 deal and did not have to pay full price, we will have to pay for the phone in full but will get $20 less per month in monthly bill?

i'm hoping that i am allowed to switch this Monday. i got my phone in late May so it hasn't been a full 2 months yet.
I am on the 5gig plan but check it, prepaid. 70 bucks. Have been on this plan since i bought my phone used online back in june. prepaid plans are comin up in the world. no more pay by the minute. I get unlimited everything with 5gig 4g cap. beautiful. been on tmo prepaid for about 3 years now starting way back with flexpay. its worked out great for me
so in all actuallity you can go and just buy a prepaid sim card and hop on the plan right now if you wanted to.

This is not correct. I just finished dealing with the retentions department on the phone (and this can be confirmed if you go online and try to change your plan to the Value Unlimited Plan). If you change to the Value plan, you are charged $200 migration fee on your next bill, which accounts for the difference in price for the phone.
I argued for 15 minutes that I HAD a brand new phone, but that since it was so problematic, the retentions department rep sent me a replacement phone...never said it was a refurbished model. And that when I went to update it the other day, it refused to update...so I called LG and it was confirmed that my DWP model is a factory refurbished model. I argued that I should not have to pay $200 for the difference in price for a brand new phone, since I have a refurb. She came back after several minutes and offered to put me on the new value plan starting next month if I meet them halfway and agree to pay $100 instead of the $200. I was tired of arguing and went ahead and agreed. I figured $20 less per month for 24 months is worth a lot more than $100 today. She was telling me that the biggest problem with them agreeing to move me over for free was that I'm such a new customer...I haven't built up any "tenure". So if you have been with T-mobile for much longer, I suppose it's possible for you to argue your way to a free migration.
Anyway, I'm satisfied with the deal.
So, being I signed up for a new plan on June 21st, I will have to pay 200 dollars to switch from paying 80 a month for unlimited talk, text, and 2GB data to the 60 plan that is the exact same thing, just 20 bucks less?

Yes, I just signed up June 13th for the same plan you did. But since I took the discounted price for the phone and signed the 2 year contract, when I wanted to switch to this cheaper version of the same plan today, they asked me for the difference of the cost of the phone...$200. I feel fortunate to have gotten the deal for $100 instead. It's still a great savings overall.
I agree. I will still do it, that is for sure.

Well called T-mobile about this plan and this is what they told me i could do. Since im a new customer i can do either these options:
Pay 59.99 Unlimited everything, BUT charged extra 5-15 dollars(depending on phone) and pay full price of phone in monthly installments over 20 month period.
Buy a phone off ebay, CL, or Pay full price in store of any phone and then i just get charged just 59.99
Or sign up for a "Regular contract" and pay 79.99 and buy phone of choice(discounted 2yr agreement price) And they run credit check to see if their is a deposit.
So many choices idk which one i should do? lol
Ok. I see uncertainty so I will try to address them all in this post. The new plans are great.. No matter how you look at them you are always going to come out in the positive in the long run. Unlimited Talk, Text, and Unlimited web with 2 GB of high speed data is $59.99. You will have to sign a new 2 Year contract. If you are on the Even More Plus plan you CANNOT come over onto the new plan (I know a loop hole). If you currently are on T-mobile and are in contract you will have to pay a migration fee that ranges from $200-0 depending on your current tenure. 18+ months will not have to pay a migration fee. On the new plans you must purchase your phone at the full retail but many will have EIP (Equipment Installment Plan) which will allow them to break the payments over a period of 21 months (If done at the store first payment will be at the store so that will make it 20 months).
For a family plan for 2 Lines Unlimited Talk, Text, and 2 GB of high speed web it will cost 99.99!!! That is super cheap. The same applies to a family plan as an individual. On the Even more plans it used to cost $179.99 ($80 savings) and compared to the classic plans $139.99, you save $40. Think about it..
Compared to the classic plan it is cheaper to be on the value plan on the long run. If you purchased 2 sensations (I chose this because its the most expensive phone I have) that makes is $550 x 2 = $1,100. If you take $40 savings x 24 months = $960 in rate plan. On the classic plan you still have to purchase the phones at $200 x 2 = $400. So for the value plan over 2 years take 99.99 x 24 (months) + $1,100 for phones = $3,500. While the classic plan will cost you 139.99 x 24 (months) + $400 (for the phone with MIR applied) = $3,760.
For 5 Lines Unlimited Talk Text and web 2 GB high speed on the value plan cost $205. Compared to the classic it will cost $290. 5 sensation on the value plan will cost $2750 while on the Classic it will cost $1000.
Value plan: $205 x 24 + $2750 = $7670.
Classic plan: $290 x 24 + $1000 = $7960.

The answer to why does AT&T Throttle?

There you have it gentlemen. It is all about $$$$$$$$
AT&T Looks To Drive Revenue With Higher-Priced Data Plans
NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--AT&T Inc. (T) is raising the ante again on data.
When customers sign up for a new plan starting Sunday, they will have to pay as much as 33% more each month, part of a strategy by the telecommunications giant to compensate for the 40% annual increase in wireless data use on its networks and to capitalize on consumers' tastes for data-hungry devices like the Apple Inc. (AAPL) iPhone.
AT&T noted under its new pricing structure, consumers will be able to use more data; however, they also will have to pay a higher bill, a continuing trend in the wireless industry. Since 2007, when the wildly popular iPhone debuted, AT&T has more than doubled average monthly data revenue per user to $25.14 in last year's third quarter from $12.01.
The wireless carrier has relied heavily on data to boost profits in recent years, as the market for new customers dries up. Data accounted for 39% of AT&T's revenue from wireless customers through the third quarter, up from just 20% in 2007.
AT&T and others have argued they need to carefully manage usage on their networks in the face of a coming shortage of available wireless airwaves, known as spectrum. The carrier is on the hunt for more spectrum following its failed $39 billion bid for T-Mobile, which it had said would bolster its network and ease capacity constraints.
Under the new plans, users will pay $5 more per month, though their monthly data allotment will rise. The least-expensive smartphone data plan, for instance, will jump to $20 for 300 megabytes of data--about an hour and a half of streaming video--from $15 for 200 megabytes.
"It seems like they are going to just keep raising prices; and for what?" said Kamille Cooper, 22, an iPhone 4 user who has maintained her $30 unlimited AT&T data plan for about four years. "It makes you wonder when they are going to come after the people like me." she doesn't know
AT&T introduced the first data caps in 2010, arguing consumers who traded down to lower-priced plans could save money.
"We think it made sense to give customers more data upfront and to give them more value," an AT&T spokesman said. "Data usage continues to increase."
New AT&T smartphone and tablet customers needing more data will pay $30 for three gigabytes of data, up from $25 for two gigabytes, and $50 for five gigabytes, from $45 for four gigabytes. That compares with Verizon Wireless's two-gigabyte and five-gigabyte plans for $30 and $50 per month, respectively.

I remember reading an interview with a Verizon Wireless executive a few months ago. He stated that since killing off their unlimited $30 data plan last July, they want customers to move from the new $30/2gb plans to their higher $50/5gb and $80/10gb plans, thanks to data intensive applications like YouTube and NetFlix. They want to increase their ARPU. At least he was honest that he wants to squeeze more out of customers to increase their bottom lines.
You can stay on the 2GB plan, they aren't forcing you off it. In reality, its cheaper for these new plans. If you went over on the 2GB plan, another gig is $10, the new plan is 3GB for $30, $5 cheaper. Good for people who go over often.
Same with the 5GB plan, its $5 also, and includes no deep packet inspection from att. Honestly. I'm glad to see them raise data limits, at least they are offering more data. I'll stick to my $30 for unlimited though.

2gb or even 5gb of data won't be enough for users the way things are going, HD videos, HD apps, video chat ect. Prepare to pay minimum $150 for one line in a couple of years from now. The carriers are in control pretty much from here on. The funny thing is a pay $30 for my internet at home and is fast and unlimited. Carriers - data is expensive to deliver wireless, I say BS excuses to raise our phone bill
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
The consensus from a few customers i have in the industry is that it costs them roughly 3 cents per MB used...why should the guy using more not be charged more. I of course view it the same way as you..innevitibly it "should" eventually go back to unlimited just as home service and talk time did. Here is where it gets just plain stupid...their issue is not the data we use but the traffic we generate on sites, which in turn creates advertising monies. Where is that money going? They (carriers) can't touch it.
The solution. Charge the user.

You bottom line is if a company does not make money they don't stay a company long. if you figure up what 1 mega byte is on the old plans compared to the new ones I think you will find the new is a better deal. None the less what allot of you folks don't understand is there is allot of cost you don't think about for instance out goes all the way down the line, raises for the execs down to the assholes who climb the towers to install strobe lights on them or how much money it cost to install the lte in all the new places. Bottom line you Fockers want all the good fast **** for free and the economy just don't work that way. look at it this way atleast att is a American based company creating jobs for Americans to do all this work.

LOL ..... well we havent seen a pricing structure yet maybe rediculously priced.
Anxiously waiting for some of those details to leak
In one sense, it does make some sense for the company. Lots of people are getting both tablets and phones. If they can share a data plan between them, it might spur sales of a tablet. I know a lot of people who would not get a second device because they don't want that second data plan. I was one of those that didn't want the second data plan. So I got a wifi-only tablet and tethering on my phone. But, from an ATT perspective, they might come out ahead if they used their fast LTE for the small screens of phones and let folks use the older Edge and 3G for their tablets at a decreased price because it spreads their data load.
I work for Att, and I know its going to half and half. Good cuz now you can have one set price bad cuz you need to think about what if lil Johnny uses up all my data... What do I do, oh I know get hit with overcharge... Att is about to make bank. Wait. And see.gghf

Verizon announced shared data beginning June 28th, AT&T will probably follow suit shortly.
verizon_share_everything_plan_details.pdf
Compared VZW's plans with my current AT&T plan (FT w/ 3 devices) and it's within about $5 of what I'm paying now.
+ is tethering on all devices without paying for the top tier.
- is overages are $15 / GB.
Verizon's new share everything plan is everything I was afraid of. Instead if choice they force the customers hand into buying a service they don't want. I'm on AT&T and I look forward to see what they offer, but if it is similar I won't be saving money, I'll be paying more while getting less data, more minutes than I use and more texts than I need. This is the perfect plan for the top tier users but for the average joe this is a slap in the face.
Saw this on Verizon's shared data plans:
http://www.engadget.com/2012/06/12/verizon-share-everything-data-plans-go-live-june-28/
If I'm reading that right, you pay a base of $50 for the lowest tier, plus $40 per smartphone. That seems to me to be more than I'm paying now for a total of 4GB on 2 phones plus a dumb phone ($70 base + $80 for smartphones + $30 for the dumb phone = $180 + tax). Maybe not a lot more, but more nonetheless.
If there is a similar price point for the AT&T plans, I may consider it based on whatever my average data is, but that remains to be seen. I'm guessing with Verizon's announcement that we'll see something soon.

I have something similar on att, base plan at $80, with two smart phones at unlimited data and texts and 1200 minutes to share, the base plan has a dumb phone with unlimited data and texts as well
So 80+9+9+30+30, and don't forget about rolling over unsed minutes.

I'm certain AT&T will do something similar. That's how they have things setup for texting now, either pay $20/month for unlimited or $.20/message and get 100 messages for the same $20, nothing in between like $10 for 500 messages, etc.
The statement that VZW is making is that minutes and texts no longer matter, they are commodity features now. The cash cow is data, which is why they bumped their data overage from $10/GB to $15/GB.
I would probably switch to a shared plan, currently have 3 phones with 3GB, 3GB, and 4GB+tether and it would be nice for me to be able to use the balance of the 2 3GB plans in a month that I do a lot of tethering.

Another reason why USA is slowly but steadily falling behind other developed countries. What ATT and VZW just did was overpaid for spectrum knowing that there is no true competition and they can charge whatever they want. Now they will have customers pay by the teeth for data.
The end game is that everyone else but the cellular provider loses. Customers pay more so they will buy less cellular equipment and use less. I for one will let go my personal cell phone and use company phone only. Fewer people will buy data enabled tablets. This impacts a whole slew of downstream app develops providers etc as well.
A family data share option would be great if they do it like their other plans.. offer several different size family packages like ex.
1. 2gb family
2. 3 gb family
3. 4 gb family
4. 5 gb family and so on until
5. Unlimited. And be truley unlimited family...
And if you should so choose option 1-4 let the unused balance roll over to the next month. If a company would offer this, data plans taylored to the customers needs and wants. Why have these big companies like att got away from giving their customers what they actually want and giving them what they pay for..

AT&T announces Mobile Share: www.att.com/mobileshare
Surprisingly similar to VZW's offering.
I wonder how AT&T is going to handle discounts with the new plans. Previously only certain thing were discounted with my corp premier discount. Either way, this looks a bit more expensive for my situation.
I have 4 lines. One smart phone (unlimited data(don't really use more then 5 gigs)) and 3 dumb phones (2 of which don't have data). For the same price I'm paying now I could have data on all my lines with unlimited talk (already have unlimited txt). I'll be looking into it for sure. Just cause they offer it doesn't mean its for you or you need it or that they are "forcing" it on you.

[Q] Is This Phone Worth Giving Up Unlimited Data?

I'm still using a SGS3 I paid full price for on launch day. So is my wife and 2 kids. Back then I could afford to pay full price for 4 phones. Today I can't but we all want to upgrade. It's been nearly 2 years after all and everyone else has shiny new phones. Verizon has the HTC One M8 for $99. I can handle 4 of them at that price. The problem is I'll have to get rid of my unlimited data. Right now we use a combined 10GB or so each month but we rarely have WIFI on so I'm sure we can get that number down. But that's not what I'm concerned with. I'm more concerned about the future of data usage as things become more data intensive. I see the data usage growing over the years. SO, is the HTC One M8 worth giving up the unlimited data and possibly paying much more per month in the future? Or should I hold out for something else?
I used 24GB last month. Remember data goes quick.

hell no......... i love this phone.... but love my unlimited data more....lol
This phone is unbelievable. I came from the GSIII and am in shock at how much better phones are now in the two years that passed since that phone was considered new and exciting. I think people who stream movies and music nonstop should keep unlimited. I personally am almost always on Wifi, and when I'm not I don't so anything like downloading movies or something. Who uses that much data away from home? I use about a half gig a month, and likely many gigabytes of Wifi data per month through my ISP at home.

It's gonna cost you $260.00 a month for 4 lines and 10gb of data. The phone is way awesome. I feel it's the best available. You aren't using any where near what an unlimited user would normally use so a 10gb plan is probably OK. But the caveat will be the the increase in your monthly.
I don't know but I'll bet your not even close to $260.00. If you are jump on it, you'll like it. If not, these are tough times, and a big increase in a monthly bill might suck.
Just for the conversation, since I started using this phone, my personal data usage went down 20%. I also came from a Samsung Note 2.
Seeing as VZW unlimited data is priceless and the phone has a price, no. Don't give in; you'd only be doing what they want — making them more money at your detriment.
i wouldn't get rid of the unlimited data for anything. once you do it you aren't getting it back so keep that in mind and look at how much data plans are now. just my opinion
Hasn't Verizon said that they intend to throttle speeds for users on the unlimited plan? Thought I read that somewhere.

Just do an alternate upgrade and switch the phone to your line. I do it all the time and I work at Verizon and do it for customers on a daily basis.

people have said they've been successful in upgrading without losing unlimited data by buying the phone from bestbuy.com
they then take the phone to the verizon store and ask for a sim to activate.
I personally just moved my upgrade to another line, then swapped the phone back to my line.

I have successfully done this. I don't know what deals best buy or the direct htc website have right now (may be more than Verizon's $99) but the trick is finding a website that 1) doesn't force you to pick out your new plan before checking out and 2) will ship the phone directly to your home. Bottom line I bought an m8 at the subsidized price and kept my unlimited without swapping upgrades from other lines. I've got a series old posts all about it if you look me up. They're either in this or the Rezound forums.
My method is to just keep a dumb phone line active on my account. $10 a month, and I transfer my upgrades to that line, activate the phone on that line, then transfer the phone to my unlimited line. Last two times I did this, my line was still eligible for an upgrade, so I got my wife an S5 and got myself the M8. It was obviously a glitch, and I'm no longer eligible for an upgrade, but hey, got two phones at subsidized price and kept the same data plans. I'm in unlimited and she's on double the data(a promotion they offered two years ago).

My daughter used to do a lot of streaming of music but I started just putting music on her phone SD card so she doesn't stream it anymore. That has drastically cut down on her data usage. I agree though that new phones are amazing. I used to think my old SGSIII was still snappy until I started checking out some of the newest devices. Makes me really want to upgrade.

Well my bill right now is $240 after tax. There is still insurance on 3 of the lines, I should have cancelled that long ago really. My line has the corporate unlimited data plan as I need it to use Good for Enterprise for work email. I also get a 17% discount through work. So it is likely my bill will go up slightly, especially if we go over the data allotment. Which is my main concern for the future, not right now. But who knows how long Verizon will even allow us to stay on unlimited anyway.

Thanks, I'll look into this. If it works it's an ingenious way to keep the unlimited!
Hell no. I paid outright for this phone to keep my unlimited. Once Verizon forcibly takes unlimited from me I'm leaving.

I think we all will. So I'm pretty sure they won't ever remove it, but just slowly throttle it more and more.

Actually VZW is matching AT&T with 4 lines and 10gb of data for $160 right now.
Personally, I won't give up my unlimited data for anything. I just bought the M8, and I'm pleasantly surprised by how much I like this phone. I paid full retail, I know you can get them cheaper on swappa, eBay, and CL, but I wanted to be the 1st to own it. Great phone, I have 2 weeks to return it if I change my mind.
As far the OP's question, I don't think any phone is worth giving up my unlimited data for.
By the way this phone was cheap full retail. 32GB internal storage for $600 from Verizon store.

As stated previously I also don't believe there is any phone worth losing unlimited data. Not to take anything away from this device it's awesome don't get me wrong but I would max out a data plan in like three days lol.

New Verizon Data Deals = +2GB free per line PERMANENTLY AND +2GB (for 3 months) using

New Verizon Data Deals = +2GB free per line PERMANENTLY AND +2GB (for 3 months) using Go90 App!
I have 4 cell phones on my plan and just added a Jetpack (Verizon WiFi Hotspot device - which has its own phone number). My total bill went up only $17, however - but here's the kicker: I had an 18GB data plan and when I got the Jetpack I was told I would permanently get an additional 2GB. The extra 2GB never showed up so I called Verizon to get it added. Instead they added 10GB! It turns out whenever you upgrade a phone or add a line, they can add a PERMANENT 2GB "promotional data" for each line you have. Also, if you search "Go90" in the play store and install the first one (that says "Ad"), then log in and set up an account, they will give you another 2GB (but only for 3 months). There are notifications with the app but you can just go into the app manager and turn those off. The additional permanent 2GB per line is actually a new promotion that started on Dec 3rd...
---Comments added later:
I have to add, was also upgrading one of my daughters phones from an iPhone 5 to iPhone 6s, and it didn't actually cost me anything because I added the Jetpack (there was some kind of promotion - so I am just paying $17 more for the jetpack). That is what started all this. Maybe they added the 10gb because I'd been a customer for 15 years and have so many lines. I also should say I had my land line and Fios Bill combined originally with the wireless Bill for another discount ($20/mo. - which would have expired in May anyway) which I had to be willing to split apart again into separate bills in order to get the discount.
Another valid point - before I even did all this, I had spent over an hour on the phone with Verizon to figure out what can be done to reduce my total monthly bill. That resulted in reducing my bill by $50 each month and getting a newer (faster) router. These people make their money by locking you into a plan and then slowly raise their prices - so doing that at least once per year will result in you getting better service at lower cost.
You can actually just uninstall the app immediately after signing up and still keep the 2gb. Also it's not per line, its just 2gb added to whatever monthly pool you already have. Keep in mind that for those of you who are off contract and getting a $25 line discount, this will bind you back into contract for those 3 months and you will lose the discount for that period of time (effectively paying $75 for a lousy 2gb a month). Verizon has gotten real bad with it's scams. Fortunately they are at least willing to play dumb and correct it when caught, but for the most part just bank on the ones who never figure it out. For example you guys signing up for 2 year contracts or device payment plans actually end up paying twice the price of the phone (if not more) in the long run. But they make it look appealing making you think you are only paying $200 on contract or $25 a month for device payment. You don't take into account that you are paying an extra $25 a month just to stay in that contract. So even if they gave you an absolutely "free" phone, in 2 years you would have paid $600 for it. A note 5 for someone on the device payment plan is going to cost them $1,200 in the long run.

Maybe I just lucked out getting nice folks on the phone - they added 10gb, not 2.
Dang, that's a good deal. I still have the thankgetting deal 1gb and the promotional 2gb for go90 till next year March, 2016. That's good enough for me. I only have 1 line, and I don't feel like being a sales person for Verizon and asking my friends to signup so I can get 2gb, it's just not worth the hassle. I understand it's extra 2gb for life, but for me, I'm good with 21gb for now

I think you got lucky, they was only going to add 2GB to my plan.
Got 2GB added for 6 months instantly when I did this!
Thanks Guys
I just got an email from Verizon, which explains the additional 8gb of data - they only give you 2GB of data for every line you already have - when you upgrade 1 phone - only if you already are on the "extra large" data plan. I was thinking of going back and asking them to put me on a smaller plan because I got all this extra data - and just realized they put that rule into place to stop people like me from doing that! Jeez.

That's typical of Verizon to slide in language.
