Native DPI Scaling - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Guides, News, & Dis

Found this post in the regular Verizon S7 section thanks to @jayochs. Cool little hidden feature and seems to work great so far. This will change the DPI from 640(stock) to about 540dpi. I'll show a few examples below, but the article will show even more and tell you how to do it.
Check out the XDA article located here :

Yeah I think it gives the phone a lot cleaner look. But that's just my opinion.

I am used to altering DPI with root access, so this find was a godsend.

You can alter DPI through ADB without root access, btw.
This is good though. Could go lower though. I have text size at the lowest settings and turned this on. The notification bar is still a little too big.
Not sure if its worth screwing with though

I did this with Nova Launcher and I really like it. Definitely helping the S7 edge grow on me a little more.

I did this with Nova launcher as well but it didn't seem to stick for the touch wiz launcher. Everything else is condensed

I really wish they had a Super Condensed mode. I'd like to run it around 500.
I do like having this to be able to quickly (with one reboot) toggle back to a density that will allow Samsung Pay to work.

After doing this with Nova Launcher I noticed that I don't have smooth scrolling when I hit the recents button

Just FYI to those who don't know... you can change your DPI through ADB without root.
I feel the condensed mode and already low stock DPI is enough.
The 7 Edge has 5.5" @ 640 DPI
The LG G4 has 5.5" @ 640 DPI
The Note 5 has 5.7" @ 540 DPI
Add condensed mode and its smaller. So I am happy with the stock/condensed values.

Doing this also kills android pay which socks, I want to reduce DPI but still use android pay

I switched to condensed DPI and Android Pay is working for me still.
Edit: Nevermind. Tried adding a card to it and says nope.. :\

HBO GO working for anyone else after changing dpi?

[MultiDPI] ssLauncher Dialer

JUST TO BE CLEAR, I am only attaching the Dialer, so you can scale correctly when using on the Infuse.
******* Updated ********
6/7/2012 - Updated so the contact tab in the dialer matches rest of the tabs...
Hey Guys,
Since I was tired of using Go Launcher because it was slow, I decided to start using ssLauncher. Its a pretty ingenious launcher that really changes the look of things.
http://chyk-ss.blogspot.com/
I changed my DPI to 190 and obviously the dialer doesn't scale so I took some time and made it adaptable to multi dpi.
Here is a picture of one of ssLauncher's theme.

I did not use your version, rather I went to the market and downloaded the original. Very nice launcher. I am in love with this application. Thank you.

When you scale your screen to 190DPI, the dialer doesn't scale correctly. I only included the Dialer so it scales correctly. It is not the launcher I included.
Hope that makes sense?

what about contacts? does that FC for you too? I'm at 160 dpi
Yeah I didn't do anything to contacts, but I think 160 is stretching it..... Do most contacts support 160?

Go Contacts does support 160 DPI along with most programs.
Yea touchwiz contacts do work at 190 DPI, maybe I'll use that DPI instead? just a little too big for my tastes

[MOD][HOWTO] Change LCD Density

Another pull of a cached version from Google. More info can be found in the replies to the original thread.
Doing this mod or quick set up is known on many devices. I decided to bring it over here for some people that aren't too familiar with it.
Lowering the dpi on your device increases the screen quality and also allows you to fit more icons on your homescreen and app drawer.
By default our devices is 220dpi
I lowered mine to 180dpi
May play around with it some more but I like the quality I have now. I'm using GoLauncherEX which allows you to resize widgets. So it plays well together.
I used the old fashion way by going through the build.prop with rootexplorer
System/build.prop and edited the LCD DENSITY line to my preferred #, pick save&exit and pulled my battery
If you would like to take a more easy approach you can download one of the apps in the play store and follow those directions.
If you have a problem with your apps not showing up in the Play Store, follow the instructions here. Downloads in the second post.
Here are a couple screenshots of what I'm referring to. If you have any questions feel free.
**Most Importantly**
LOWERING THE DPI TOO LOW WILL CONFLICT SOME APPS IN THE PLAYSTORE AS WELL AS THE STOCK DIALER.

Some Apps that support DPI change (BE CAUTIOUS USING THESE)
Why don't you just use a launcher that allows you alter how many icons are in the desktop and the drawer?
I also fail to see how lowering your DPI increases screen quality. I mean, if I lower the amount of chocolate chips in my cookies, that makes them inferior.

[Q] Wallpaper Creation

Hey XDA'ers,
I was just wondering if any of you know how to create wallpapers specifically designed for the Desire S. The current resolution I have (googled and found out I should use this, i think) is 980x856 or 980x850. Anyway, I want to design a wallpaper like PieUI, as follows :
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
See how the widgets fit right underneath the colored lines? I want to make a wallpaper like that for my Desire S. I'm not sure how to figure out Android grid sizes in Photoshop, so any help on doing so would be amazing. Might be nice to mention I want to do it for 3 Homescreens, if that makes any difference.
Thanks people, hope I was clear in my question. (I searched for threads on how to do this, but I couldn't find anything that explained it properly)
Peace!
Why don't you take a screenshot on the central home screen with some stuff on it and then use it as an under-layer for your design in photoshop, then remove it before saving your final version?

From what I remember, and I'm sure someone else will pipe up if I'm wrong, the screen of the DS is 480 wide by 800 high. When I used wallpapers compatible for scrolling they needed to be 960 wide by 800 high - 480 pixels in the centre for the main screen and 240 each side for the scrolling.

I thought about the pixel size when it went to landscape, i wasn't sure what the scrolling sizes needed to be (i just doubled the width, hoping it was right lol) I'm still messing about with wallpapers, trying to get a wallpaper/UCCW theme going on here. Proving to be a hassle, but ill get it Thanks for confirming the sizes man.

Move Desktop Icons from Left right to Bottom of SCreen

Hi Guys
Is there anyway to move the app draw and icons on the right of the screen down to the bottom of the screen , just feel that they are take up screen size
Many Thanks
RF
Try another home screen launcher
If your talking about the dock being on the right hand side in landscape mode thats reliant on the DPI of the screen. The dock on the bottom isnt supported on the stock DPI which is i think 330? I cant remember. You can, if your rooted and you want to have your dock on bottom in landscape you can change the DPI using textdroider DPI to like 220 or 240 and itll unlock most of the features of the 9/10 inch tablets.

Had a few issues with tower dwellers and pocket starship. The top of the screen was cut off on tower dwellers and pocket starships would crash after loading a area, also the chat at the top was cut off. Went back to stock and everything was fine. I barely play those games anyways so its not like it was a massive issue. But there do seem to be some issues.
oh and for some reason stylus wasnt being recognized on Star Wars Commander. That game sucks anyway and stylus isnt needed for it so w.e

Lag/stutter

Anyone experiencing a slight lag when hitting the home button to exit the current app you're in and the animations lags a little and also when you swipe up on the home screen to get to the app drawer I get a little lag.
Maybe, barely perceptible and only time to time.
Maybe a couple of dropped frames, but it has improved a lot in the latest update, the one that brought easier color correction for the display. I realize that some will see it as an issue, but the effect zooming back to the icon where it opened from when resuming to the home screen is enough for me lol, I'm not that OCD
Anything I can clear or check?
It's gonna happen. Try clearing cache by hitting restart and holding power, Bixby button and volume up until you see the blue android screen. Doing this after every new update release is recommended.
You can set the animations differently in developer options. Some people like to bump the times up. It feels "smoother" that way. I have mine turned completely off

Thanks, I didn't know about this. I wasn't particularly bothered before but this intrigued me so I had a look. I've changed my animation values from x1 to x0.5 and it does appear to feel even snappier, although it was no slouch beforehand. Cheers mate.

AFAIK there are some wallpaper manager changes in Samsung source. Regarding the wallpaper zoom when you click recents. This may affect the animation of kicking back to home.
Try changing screen resolution then changing it back to what you had it on (FHD to QHD etc) My device smooths out significant. Not sure how this makes sense but it works. Try it!
