Anyone come from the v10 to the s7? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions & Answers

I have the v10, and it's an awesome phone don't get me wrong, but I don't really like the sizs of it and terrible battery life. I ditched Samsung when they ditched the SD card slot. If anyone came from it, what are your thoughts on jumping (on demand) to it from the v10?

The V10 had horrible battery life, but I like the fact that the camera focuses really quickly. But the S7 is a better hand size, and it feels better, IMO. The S7 battery lasts much longer, and the low light pictures are incredible.
I always liked Samsung because of the capacitive touch buttons at the bottom of the phone, but I found LG V10 was disappointing with some good points.

I jumped from the v10 to the s7 edge. Got it yesterday. S7 beats v10 hands down no questions asked just do it!!! This thing is in a whole nother dimension compaired to the v10. Im never going back to lg. Unless its a nexus.

Not quite for me.. I Came from the G4 to the S7 (Flat)..
So far I am not missing anything other then the knock to wake from the LG. The camera on the s7 is better which is almost kinda hard to believe considering how good the g4/v10 camera is.
And the battery life is at least as good but seems to be a bit better.

Well I guess you guys sold me. I don't want the edge as I had the regular edge it was pointless to me and had so many problems.
BTW T-Mobile killed off jump on demand so we have to wait to see what happened, how they handle our existing jod.

Thanks guys, I do miss Samsung. I've had Sammy since the s3. As soon as root is achieved I'll be switching if not sooner

When did they kill this off? I still see it listed on T mobile website

Curious to see where this info came from as well. It's still on the T-Mobile site, and I was able to use my Jump On Demand to get my preorder S7 (Pre-Ordered Feb 23 and received it Monday, Feb 29).

I am a T-Mobile employee . They gave no explanation for it. Just to remove everything JOD related from the store and that is it. We're all still waiting for answers on what's going to happen with existing peeps. Hell, they might just be changing the name. They don't tell us ****. I was wondering why it still shows up on their site as well.

Edit.. Apparently there's a new uncarrier launch coming around March 13. Maybe it has something to do with it

I came from the v10 to the s7. Samsung hardware is so much better. Screen, camera, solid state sd... You made a wise move. The v10 was dead on arrival becasue no devs will work on the second screen. Erwan is the only one who is working on CM and he got it ported but the CM second screen blows.
Good move. Hang tight, i will be working on some CM projects for this phone. I will begin pulling cm trees to samsung

Thanks man. I haven't jumped ship yet but I plan to. I am running no name rom on my v10 but seems development has stopped, or barely started. I love this phone but the the battery life is killing me. I like the s7 regular size better anyway.

Edit... I have been holding off until it's confirmed to have an unlocked bootloader with tnobile

I have the v10 and I am impatiently waiting for my s7 to arrive so I can dump this thing.. It's a nice looking phone and camera is decent but it's definitely not an Samsung.!!!

I am also an employee, & have heard nothing at all of this. My guess if anything it will get modified like the original JUMP to JUMP2 did. That or maybe fix some of the details to ensure people dont lease like 4 devices on the same line (yes it happens & it makes for a very ugly bill).

My v10 is going back as soon as the s7 gets here hopefully tomorrow

Just pre-ordered my s7 with deferred trade in. It'll stay in the box until it gets root though. I'll be so pissed if it's a locked bootloader.

Gold s7 in hand

Same here. Now we need root on this thing

I came from the V10 to the S7 flat. Actually got the S7 on launch day which is odd for me since I usually sit back on a phone, but the V10 was bothering me too much.
While the V10 finally got a daily driver CM rom going (and huge props to the dev for that), there is one major flaw that will forever hold back development: the 2nd screen. I used UI Tuner to get rid of the 2nd screen, but then it basically turned it into a giant bezel. I highly doubt any AOSP devs will ever program something to work with the 2nd screen and I also realized that the 2nd screen was a total gimmick anyway. The only thing useful for me was the time being shown with the screen off. It was also nice to have the removable back and battery, but I hardly swapped it out.
The S7 having an SD slot again, a less phablet like size, and waterproofing (the REAL seller for me) are what sold me on the S7. The snapdragon was the icing on the cake, but the bootloader crap going on right now dampers that. Regardless, while the V10 was a good phone for me, it didn't have enough unique features and AOSP scene to keep me with the phone. I will miss knock on a lot and it's going to take a lot of time to get used to different button placements since I've been with LG since the G2.

Tell my why I shouldn't return my One M9 for an S6

I've had my HTC One M9 for 2 days now, and I'm starting to see things that are disappointing to me. Especially for such a high end, pricey device. Battery life is not very good at all compared to my old LG G2. And it takes forever to charge. The camera is, for lack of a better word, horrible.
I'm trying to decide if I should return it to T-Mobile in exchange for a Galaxy S6. All the reviews I've read and watched lean toward the S6.
Tell me why or why not?
...You came to the S6 forum to ask fans of the device to talk you into NOT getting it?
Seriously? -_-
Nah, this is definitely an April Fool's post.
I was torn between the m9 and s6..after watching the keynote and seeing hands on videos, I quickly decided on the s6. I'm glad I did. Pictures look better than my g2 (the phone I came from). The screen crispness, colors and brightness is superb! Didn't mind not having micro SD or removable battery since I didn't have it before.
The only thing I find weird to adjust is that whites seem to have a yellow tint, where as on my g2 they were more blue or white (in my opinion).
The front facing camera is really nice quality too.
S6,higher res screen in a slightly bigger screen size. The size of s6 is smaller and lighter than the m9.

Well... the only cons are the same cons that every review mentions. Lack of SD card slot and price. Also the speaker quality is obviously lesser on the S6 if that matters to you.
The only other consideration is how much you care about rooting/unlocking/custom ROM support, which will certainly be stronger on the M9 just because it's a Snapdragon device. At least that's how it'll be initially.
Other than those, the M9 loses in every other measurable area.
So really the M9 Vs. S6 issue comes down to how much the price difference matters, how much you care about "3rd party" support, and whether or not you need a SD card slot.
Edit: Suppose the M9 warranty program is worth considering as well.

We'll, my G2 was running aicp 5.0.2 with custom rom which I could easily go 24hrs and be fine.
So far my s6 has slightly less battery life. But i can quickly go from 15% to 100% in an hour. Balances out. I'm using the s6 a lot to get things setup and such, so not quite a fair comparison. Letting the battery settle in for a week.
I do see a speed difference between my g2 and the s6 though
I'm even kinda been on the fence to keep my G2 and hold out what's to come in the fall, but that is very unlikely for me to do.

The s6 is faster, or the g2? Same here with waiting. I wanted to wait for the g4, but with T-Mobile's jump, I'm able to upgrade every 6 months. So, no biggie if I wanna go back to LG at the end of the year.

I haven't gotten the S6 yet since I'll have to wait until April 10th, and I'm also coming from a G2.
The S6 will definitely be faster- even though I really do enjoy my G2.
All the Bestbuy locations have the S6/Edge on display. I suggest you check them out in person.
If you are coming here to ask you have already made your decision. To be honest if you are interested in a G4 id wait until its announced and compare that to the S6 then get a device.
I'll tell you why you SHOULD return your One M9. The S6 is by far the biggest leap I've ever seen in a phone, and I've had every major LG/HTC/Samsung phone from the past 3 years lol.
It truly is a home run.
Keep m9 for a bit longer to see if anything changes in terms of camera and battery performance. I think a person should keep a phone for a least two weeks to get a good impression. Also go on HTC thread to see camera tricks. I'm getting m9 tomorrow and I will see if it will meet my great expectations as I'm coming from a phone that's three years old.
I would only buy s6 if camera was the main thing but for me it isn't and the negatives of the s6 outweigh my liking for the device. The soc difference isn't big in reality and I think they both have inconsistent battery reviews from people, so they are similarly disappointing. Design and ui are a personal opinion but I think m9 is better.
Go with whatever you like tbh and I hope whichever phone you choose you have a great experience

Only Gripe? Having a camera THAT bad is a HUGE fail on HTC's part, when the biggest weakness they've had since the M7 fiasco was their camera
All they had to do to save their company was fix their camera and put a 2K screen in their new flagship.
Instead, they did neither. I predict either a buyout from Samsung to grab patents or HTC simply going out of business in a year.

Screen is a moot point no real difference with 1080p its just a numbers game tbh. iPhone 6 has a lower resolution screen and funnily enough it also looks fine.
Thank god they didn't put a 2k display and the camera isn't an epic fail. They haven't pushed the sensor to what it is capable of. Also manual control says a different story. I doubt they are going bust this year and I think they would rather die then sell themselves to Samsung. I do hope they do get bought by another respectable company so they can be in a better position. They just need more money in R&D and marketing.

Me and my S6 " The love hate love relationship"

I've always had an android phone. My love relationship with them started with Verizon and the Moto Droid. Needless to say flashing roms and rooting phones is part of the reason I but phones.
I'm not a big fan of the progressive size increase in cell phones, but I owned a fee large phones. My wife got and iphone 6 dividing our house a few months ago and while I would not get an iPhone, I marvelled at how is was small and manageable. Yet able to perform any task and take great pictures.
So I sold MY white LG g3 to get a blue 64gb S6. I rooted it immediately and it was quite impressive. It offered all of the things I like about the iPhone 6 and a great fingerprint scanner. I have two young boys and a selfish obsessed wife and the cameras on this phone are great. So great my wife takes pictures with my phone when we are out.
One day I decide I want a white S6. So I purchased one on Swappa.com and sold mine there as well. I confirmed that it still had a root able version of lollipop, but when I get the phone the seller upgraded the phone the day he shipped it. So I tried to rock with the unrootable S6 checking everyday to see if OF1 version of lollipop had been rooted. I hated the phone. For anyone that is stuck with a S6 on stock OF1, I understand your pain. In my opinion Samsung is losing money because of restrictions on the stock version of this phone. So I'm currently selling that phone on Swappa.com for reasonable price.
I went and purchased a gold 64gb S6 and it came rooted and the feel if the phone is night and day. The speed it just how I remember the phone a drunken my battery life is sick. With stock OF1 I would only average 11-14 hours with maybe 2-3 hours of screen time. This is my first day with the rooted s6 and I'm currently at 11 hours and 2 hours of screen time with a few restarts to flash different themed items and I still have over 40% of battery life left.
My recommendation is that of you love the form factor of this phone and everything else it has to offer and you are stuck on OF1 version of lollipop, sell your phone to get a root able version of the s6. You will practically break even with the swap.

I've been thinking of selling my rooted S6 so I can leave Verizon. I didn't see any other White 64GB S6s that were rooted on Swappa so I wonder if there's a decent demand.
I love almost e everything about the phone and it is rooted the biggest main issue i have is it lags alot for me. Yes i have a decent amount of apps but my m8 is set up exactly the same and it doesn't lag at all even with just 2 gigs of ram. And my other issues which this is mainly because of verizon is development is almost not there. I am grateful for the roms we do have but it still takes away from the phone for me somewhat.

I HATE my s6. The cell reception is fine, I'm lucky enough to be rooted as well, but this thing is junk IMO. Don't get me wrong, the camera is ok and it was the primary reason to get this phone. I use it daily for pictures and it performs pretty well actually. The fingerprint reader works pretty fast most of the time as well, but I would absolutely 100% not buy this phone again or recommend it to anyone else. Even during pictures this thing is hot and battery life is unimpressive. Yes wireless charging is included, but once again super hot while charging as well.
Battery life got much better after root and the screen is amazing, but I'm jumping ship here in a few months, I actually consider it a downgrade from my LG G2 except for the camera
I miss my HTC ONE M8. Totally rootable, totally customizable. Love the specs on the S6, but Verizon is making a huge mistake locking their phones down. It's the antithesis of Android, Linux, and open source in general.

Yea I guess I should of clarified on that one, it was a long day
-The lack of a removable battery is a killer. My battery drain is pretty serious and needs charging throughout the day. Eventually I will need to swap that battery....
-My two S6s have both lagged from day 1. Removing bloatware helped but still laggy. Have to clear our app caches once a week or so.
-The camera lens is elevated from the back of the phone and makes it not lay flat well. Not a biggie, but annoying.
-Touchwiz.... I hoped we would have CM by now or something close but its a big setback.
Most of the other issues I have are software related and would be fine when/if we can unlock the bootloader. I've come to learn over the years that a waterproof phone is a big advantage here in Florida too, my gf's old S5 was actually just used during the last flood we had and was great. I guess I agree with the OP, it is a love/hate, just mine is more hate than love.

I agree with the camera lens. I like cases but hate that I need a case to protect that.
My battery gets me through and average day. But that is always a user experience. I can see how it wouldn't be enough for many users.
I've never hated it but there are days where I am less impressed than others. Where TouchWiz shows its ugly side. Hopefully whenever you get next works out better for you

Yea it seems so I'm only stuck with it for a few more months and the gf and I are both bailing. Its a shame too because these phones are damn sexy too lol. Right now I'm stocked up on wireless chargers and have them strategically placed around work and home and it seems to be working out ok. Its not too terrible since there are no plugs to charge.
Came from a rooted s4 with xposed to the g6 and I feel lost. The g6 gets good battery life and works just fine but I am having major Bluetooth issues between that and sync for my car that I never had with the s4. I will do better research before making my next purchase. I don't care how good the camera is etc... If the boot loader is locked down I will purchase a different phone. Not everyone wants to use samsungs bloat ware. Also if I want to turn the volume up and blow my ear drums out I don't need a visible warning to appear telling me I might do that....I can hear just fine Samsung....

I'm pretty sure the BT is a known issue. Does anyone know if the update fixes that? I know I cant get more than 5m or so from my phone before it cuts out. I used to get almost double that with my G2. I agree with you on the headphones warning too lol. Almost as bad is the Verizon crap it tries to install each time you hook it up to a computer. I flashed the fix but it sure was annoying waiting on root first. Guess we can blame V for the bloatware too.

8 generations of HTC & I switched... Initial Thoughts

I never thought I would be writing anything like this but wanted to share my initial thoughts of this device. I have been extremely loyal to HTC over the years with my first real smart phone being the Touch Pro 1, TP2, evo4G wimax, evo3D wimax, evo LTE, M7, M8 & M9. With rumors of the M10 ditching boomsound this year, I had enough. I firmly believed HTC designed and manufactured superior products over Samsung for many years but could never get ahead due to poor leadership at HTC such as messing up the camera & marketing to name a few. That said I don't think that is the case anymore. I saw the build quality jump on the S6 & now with the release of the S7 I don't see how HTC can keep running if the leaked M10 renders are true. I have worked and setup many Samsung phones over the years but this is my first real hands on for myself and wanted to share my initial thoughts on what stood out.
Build Quality: My M9 still feels more solid & premium over the S7 edge. That said the S7 edge certainly looks the part of premium and still a huge step up in build quality over previous S5 and below models.
Bloat/UI: I have always not liked TouchWiz and always preferred sense. While this is certainly more feature packed, many things on the phones are worthless and it still feels pretty bloated. I really miss the big HTC weather clock I have been using since the touch pro.
Boomsound: One of my favorite features of the M9 which rumors of ditching it on M10 caused me to be done. While the speaker sounds decent on this phone, covering it up while watching videos is annoying and you just can't replace front facing stereo speakers.
Rooting: I have been rooting for years, HTC has also been fairly root friendly with the exception of the evo3D and encrypted boot loader. M7, M8 & M9 I have all S-OFF for full control which I love. With Samsung having Knox, I have to choose between a warranty void or locked down phone. Yes HTC voided the warranty as well but if you had S-OFF you could reverse everything there is no e-fuse. Xposed on touchwiz roms from what I know isn't as friendly on Samsung devices having to use custom versions to get it to work.
Those things I already was well aware of, so the things I like so far that have stood out to me.
The screen: Higher resolution, always on display and colors have more pop. Screen is very nice, especially with a little bigger display. The edge I find pretty cool as well.
Notification Light: Much bigger and noticeable light on the Galaxy the my HTC. Might not be a big deal to some, but I like it.
Thin: Feels thinner and lighter than my M9 while still having a bigger screen.
Gear VR: While this is super cool and pretty wild, the resolution on the Gear VR sucks. Feels like watching 240P youtube videos. That said it's still pretty cool, it's cheap and I'm sure future versions are going to be insane.
Buttons: While I find a finger print scanner worthless, have a physical home button I like along with back lit back and recent apps keys vs having them on screen. I highly prefer this layout over on screen which means more usable screen. The M7 had this and the M8 they moved to on screen while still have the HTC black bar which I thought was just stupid and wasted screen space. I like how Samsung has it layed out.
I haven't had the device that long but this is my initial reaction after a short period of time with the phone. I wouldn't be oppose to going back to HTC in the coming years (if they are even around) if they can get there act together as I do prefer a lot of things on the HTC. There are a lot of other features other people might value more than me that I didn't even mention. My biggest concern at this point in time is if I want to trip knox or not as you can't go back. I'm leaning towards yes even if it breaks Samsung Pay as I really like having xposed assuming it works on this phone and of course full root access which I have become dependent on.
I understand what you are saying. I've been a completely dedicated HTC customer for about 12 years. My first HTC was the PPC-6600 Harrier (back in 2004 I believe). The last one was the OneMax. I have not been happy with anything they have made after that. They have cut corners and sacrificed features in an effort to save money. When they should be building better products.
So I decided to try Samsung. Although it is smaller than I would like, I'll make the best of it. But if the Edge Plus comes out is "Sept" as I've read, I'll most likely go with it.
I'm not going to compare the features of these phones. But I will say this, I do like Sense system more. And as soon as I root this it will have Sense apps and widgets.
I just read that root may not be possible on this phone. I'll give it a week and see how I really like it. But I'm thinking of taking it back and waiting on a larger screen Samsung or HTC.
It's not bad. I just don't know if I like it enough without root to keep it for very long. And if I'm going to take it back in don't have long.
Wow you have been even more loyal then me. HTC TP1 was my first real Smart phone. I use to buy Samsung flip phones A940 if you remember that which by the way had awesome speakers on it and even an accelerometer. I have actually been pretty happy with HTC's products. Boomsound on the M7 was fantastic, they did mess up the camera though while it took good lowlight shows, the resolution was awful and 4MP just isn't enough. Part of the reason I stayed away from the Galaxy for so long, I just viewed it as an over priced plastic phone which didn't feel premium at all. I noticed a change on the S6 last year which is when I for the first time considered changing. People didn't brace the M9, so they release the A9 to compete with itself just idiot leadership at HTC. Now the M10 no boomsound? They just seem to be going backwards. While I already really miss my front facing speakers on the M9, the features on the S7 edge are amazing. Not only am I done with HTC for the time being, but I have kept lots of friends loyal to the HTC brand. Not saying I wouldn't ever go back but losing super loyal customers like yourself & I is what could put HTC under.
Looks like this phone may never have root or anything custom as the bootloader is locked. Coming from S-OFF devices to a device locked down like fort knox sucks. I already miss root, Xposed, AdAway & TI just to name a few. Even if we get root it will trip knox rendering certain features useless like Samsung Pay which I would prob rather have root than Samsung Pay but I haven't tried it out yet. I'm gonna stick with it for now see what happens, I just think devices are only going to become more secure and locked down as we move forward.
As far as you waiting for the edge +, it will be interesting how they do that this year if at all since the S7 edge really isn't that much smaller than the Note 5 where last years S6 edge was smaller. I really like the size of the phone, lots of screen but doesn't feel too big. I do miss sense as well, I have never been a fan of TouchWiz and the amount of bloat on this thing is unbelievable but it can be cleaned up. I knew what I was getting into. I'm gonna stick with it for now as I think the pro's outway the cons at least at the moment.

TW vs Sense... minor annoyance. I got used toit, I'm sure you can too.
Root vs Samsung pay... well, that's a little bit more complicated. Samsung pay works only with certain (quite limited) cards and banks. So far for me only AMEX and Citi credit card are supported. You need to find out first, whether you have a card that's supported otherwise this whole dilemma is moot. I live without root since last year's Note 5. Samsung pay is just more valuable to me than a few tweaks I can easily live without. It's quick, convenient and it just works. The only place so far I found it doesn't work is Walmart. Because Walmart registers don't support NFC and if you have a card with chip, they won't accept magnetic swipe. (which Samsung pay simulates if no NFC is possible)..

Samsung Pay has been working for me at Walmart since Sept of 2015. I use a chipped Chase visa card. Be sure to tell the cashier it's a credit card & tell them you have the security numbers if they ask (which is the last 4 digits of your CC).

I might have to give it a try at Wal-Mart and see how I like it. I had Google Wallet back in the day on evo LTE with very limited retailers at the time it would work at. When it did work it wasn't the smoothest so since then I haven't been using anything. I don't see Samsung Pay being valuable to me, but you make a good point if it doesn't work for my cards then decision should be easy. That said if the bootloader is locked from what I have read this year it is on Sprint then unless that changes there will be no knox trip anyway. I'll give it a whirl see if I like it, I have a chase card I can try at wal-mart next time I go.

Your Walmart must have upgraded their card readers. The Walmart I'm using does not accept magnetic swipe if your card is chipped. It will reject it and say to use the chip reader. Samsung pay emulates magnetic swipe so when I try it, it tells me to use the chip reader. They also don't have a NFC sensor, so I can't use it there. But that's a minor annoyance. I'm not frequent shopper at walmart anyway.

Chase should work AFAIK.
I've tried Google Wallet before too but that was a huge PITA. This is a completely different game. This Samsung Pay thing is actually useful.

My Walmart has a card swipe On the right side + a chip card receptacle on the bottom.
Sometimes it doesn't work the first time but it's been due to cashier mistakes.

That wouldn't surprise me at all.
I don't have to be right ALL the time.
Been using htc android phones since the Dream on t-mobile.
I jumped on the S7 edge because of the aesthetically pleasing display, but more importantly because I had an old M8 that was chugging along. If the M10 had come out this month I would probably went with that. I may return the S7 edge and wait out till the M10 due to the seemingly large hurdles with how locked down it is.
Shame, since I really believe this is easily the best Samsung phone I have touched, but no foreseeable xposed functionality is a big no no in the long-term for me.

I'm missing Xposed as well
Still liking it? I had my OneMax replace by Asuron. I got the LG flex 2. Its not a bad phone. With Xposed, debloated andall the Sense apps; the damn thing acts just like an HTC. But with a better screen.
Ive read the HTC 10 is going to be a tiny 5.1".
Ill hang on to this till someone makes a rootable 5.7-5.9"

Returning samsung galaxy s7 (and s7 edge)

Well, it was time to make a decision since the Bootloader is locked; TMobile and Samsung obviously will not engage on this endeavor. Samsung Pay is their baby, and it is my money and desire for freedom.
I have just printed out my shipping label, and headed to the UPS Store to send my SGS7 EDGE back to TMobile.
I will purchase the LG G5 on the 29, get a free battery and cradle changer.........or the free 360 camera thingy they're also making as a free option.
Good luck to the guys and gals working on root. Samsung just lost a customer!
Such a gorgeous device to go to waste. Why didn't you keep the s7 edge as your "go out phone" and buy a Nexus if you want an unlocked bootloader with ALOT of roms. I mean I still have my note 4 that I returned to stock or I can root again....do I need to?? Naaah, sometimes lol.but seriously I would have kept the note 4 and buy a stock Android as my rooted device and the Galaxy as the secure "go-out" device....

Odds are this will be the new norm. Tmobile was the last man standing on bootloader and now they fall too. I imagine the g5 will be locked also. It sucks, I was so excited to try aosp on this phone too.

Yeah, google that. I read it somewhere recently but can't remember where. I think it's the SD820 curse.
Edit: Found it:

And again, more disappointment. Another phone with a locked bootloader! I spoke to LG and T-mobile tech support. Of course they both are playing the blame game on one another but bottom line is is that the LG G5 will be locked down just like the Samsung S7. I was told we would have to wait to see if an unlock option comes out down the road like the G4 had. What another let down....

I'm very confident that as with the LG G4, LG again will provide the bootloader unlock for DEVs via their Lge.com website. LG gets it. Samsung doesn't.
I also believe it's going to be LG's time to shine. If LG does right by LG G5 owners, Samsung will see a great amount of otherwise loyal customers flock to LG. It would be a great business move.

So your telling me a lot of people will opt for an ugly modular phone that's missing many of the s7 features just because you want root? I guess, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Trust me.
..a lot of people don't care about root anymore...I'm one of them...do I want to? Yes, everyone does. Do I personally absolutely NEED IT, enough to give up on this phone that's everything we wanted from samsung? No thanks [emoji106] [emoji2] [emoji2]

I have been a devout member of the rooting community since the G1 days. I have a 6P, but frankly I have been using this device since release day and I am beyond happy with it. Touchwiz has dramatically improved even from the S6 era Lollipop builds. The hardware is beautiful and powerful. Excepting the ability to fully uninstall bloat. I am personally very happy with the S7 Edge : )

Some of you guys are killing me when it comes to saying that the LG G5 is ugly. It's not an ugly phone at all. I must admit it doesn't look as nice as having a two-sided glass body but at the end of the day you and I as well as other people making purchases of smartphones will most likely keep our phones in a case. As such it does not matter what the form looks like as long as you can see the screen.
As far as features are concerned I would be hard-pressed to say that the LG G5 is a handicap phone in features when compared to the Galaxy S 7.
In fact there are technical details that the LG G5 have that the Samsung Galaxy S7 does not such as USB 3.0 fast charge 3.0 USB type-c as well as other features such as the most excellent manual mode of their camera. Not to mention the wide-angle photo shops. And if you don't like the modular friends well that's just a matter of opinion because those friends do serve a purpose. Another feature that I love on the LG G5 the fact that they're always on notification screen can be used with all apps not just couple like on the Galaxy S 7. I think you really need to read around to get all the details on the LG G5. you're overly claiming that the S7 is superior when in fact it's really not. To me the only thing that I really shows us a great advantage on is being water resistant.
LG has also provided an unlock bootloader website for the G4, so I see this again happening with the G5.

The LG g5 is ugly when you compare it to the s7 edge, the phone itself is not too bad. But we DO have manual mode, it's called "Pro" mode under your camera ....and we also do have 180° photos. I mean geez samsung came up with that too. And LG friends. Dude there selling you a 650$ phone, with "friends" that cost upwards of 80$. True story. And that's for the battery [emoji24] [emoji24] . Not to mention the Galaxy s7 edge already has a big battery, way better camera than the LG g5 i mean it is the best camera on a smartphone. Water resistant, Vulkan API? PSft. VR (the LG vr don't hook up to your phone I beleave) we got the ever so great super AMOLED display. Built in wireless charging yada yada yada...I can go a long time talking about the features, but in sure you know them...
So yeah galaxy s7 is superior. In every test, land(dust) air or sea( water resistant) [emoji13] you guys just want LG because you THINK they will not have there bootloaders locked, in Wich case that's cool. But I'll keep my beastly s7 and buy a Nexus for rooting and stuff. I'm not downgrading to the G5. The world isn't ready for modular phones ..and geez $80 for and battery? Haha in wonder how much there most intriguing "friend" will cost...(B&O audio)

Battery? Come on. Let's not act as if we don't prefer a removable battery. Besides, the phones come with a free spare battery and cradle changer. A TMobile rep told me their also giving away a free 360 cam as an option in lieu of a battery.
AMOLED screen, yes it's very nice, but not a game winning feature for all.
Wireless charge, THAT is cool.
VR using the phone, I could care less for. Not into that which is why I didn't request it.
Now, as a heavy data transfer guy I most certainly prefer USB 3.0. And Fast Charge 3.0. Samsung screwed that up with electing to use 2.0 versions for their USB and charging. Be real.
As for the world not ready for a modular phone????That's nonsensical. The world at one point was not ready for a touch screen phone but look where we are now. The world was not ready to give up blackberries but look where we are now. The world was not ready to give up the iPhone but look where we are now.
For my use, I made a mistake even choosing the S7 but the hype and buy one get one free promotion got me.
At the end of the day we should all see what's what when the G5 is finally released.

I DO prefer a removable battery lol I have two for my note 4 buy it don't use it. And that's cool lol the least they can do is give people some free stuff like samsung did. It's only right. And I didn't like VR back in the stage I left with the note 4s "innovator edition" it had little apps and it got old quick, however now we have netflix/Hulu in oculus store along with other great apps/games and experience. I will say this version is much better than the innovator edition I had for my note 4. VR aside.
I do like usb 3.0 but didn't we have that with the note 3?? And I agree samsung screwed us for not supporting fast charge 3.0. But that's because they don't need too, maybe lol. Like I said the LG g5 is not a bead phone, but it's obvious as of now this bad boy is sitting at the top of the pyramid. Google has been inventing the modular phone for along time now and they aren't taking the risk yet because it's not ready....at least LG took one for the team. There both great phones though. It's all about preference ??

you guys are mad funny trying to defend the s7 without root. it blows. very underwhelming. returned it on my 13th day. my 6p is faster and more fluid than the s7 with the sd820. i reallly dont know how they could make the phone lag with that much processing power, but congrats samsung, you did it. as far as t-mobile being the 'last man standing' as far as unlocked bootloaders go.. did you forget about sprint? every phone that has ever come out unlocked on t-mobile has been unlocked on sprint. sprint doesnt give af. i could care less about the g5. htc m10 is where its gonna be, same specs as s7 and the rest, except they probably wont gimp the processor like samsung.. and guaranteed bootloader unlock-able through htc.dev. not to mention they went back to the capacitive buttons, ditched the giant black bar, home button/fingerprint scanner.. yea they ditched the dual stereo speakers on front, but boomsound will still be there, and i wouldnt be surprised if the earpiece is a media speaker itself. most likely a better camera, win win win win. the s7 will outsell it by leaps and bounds, doesnt mean shiz though, just sheep flocking to the new iphone. the m10 will get crazy dev support. win win win win

Yeah, they are saying it will have a game-changing camera--just like they did with the M7, M8, M9... Every Sammy flagship comes with a great camera no exceptions. And doing SuperAMOLED then going back to LCD is pretty meh IMO.
And we'll see about that bootloader when the M10 comes out. Word has it that the G5 will be locked down like the S7/S7E. This is starting to look like a common feature with the SD820.
I might have to wait for the M10 too LOL

..a lot of people don't care about root anymore...I'm one of them...do I want to? Yes, everyone does. Do I personally absolutely NEED IT, enough to give up on this phone that's everything we wanted from samsung? No thanks [emoji106] [emoji2] [emoji2]

Truest statement yet. I'd take root Yes! Want root Yes!
But i know how to modify it enough ways for my liking without root needed using other methods and similar No root needed apps.
To good of a phone to let go .
BTW I had bashed this device from day 1 once first time around .
And I apologize to the s7 for that and the forum. Already repurchased a 2nd and learning to live without root, kinda tough like not smoking something we can learn to live with .

you guys are mad funny trying to defend the s7 without root. it blows. very underwhelming. returned it on my 13th day. my 6p is faster and more fluid than the s7 with the sd820. i reallly dont know how they could make the phone lag with that much processing power, but congrats samsung, you did it. as far as t-mobile being the 'last man standing' as far as unlocked bootloaders go.. did you forget about sprint? every phone that has ever come out unlocked on t-mobile has been unlocked on sprint. sprint doesnt give af. i could care less about the g5. htc m10 is where its gonna be, same specs as s7 and the rest, except they probably wont gimp the processor like samsung.. and guaranteed bootloader unlock-able through htc.dev. not to mention they went back to the capacitive buttons, ditched the giant black bar, home button/fingerprint scanner.. yea they ditched the dual stereo speakers on front, but boomsound will still be there, and i wouldnt be surprised if the earpiece is a media speaker itself. most likely a better camera, win win win win. the s7 will outsell it by leaps and bounds, doesnt mean shiz though, just sheep flocking to the new iphone. the m10 will get crazy dev support. win win win win

Only shaky things with the m10 are battery life and s-off. If they get the battery life right and s-off is achieved the phone will be a winner, maybe. The m9 didn't quite get nearly as much development as the m8. I'm itching to get xposed and root so bad... I really want to fix some of the ugly and get my media gestures back. The edge is nice but the phone can get chuggy here and there and with Samsung seemingly more invested in the exynos version it might be a good idea for me to get the 10 or wait for the Nexus.

Not to go against u but here was my experience with both. I. Really waanted to retur. The galaxy s7 edge and keep my nexus 6p. Which was rooted, stock rom, custom kernel. Was smooth and fast.
I receive my gs7 edge and the nexus 6p was not faster but smoother in alot of occasions. Was noticably slower. After a few days of switch sim from one phone to another i did like the galaxy s7 edge but didnt like the color gold. I went to the store and exchanged it for a black. Started doing the testing again of using both phone cause i still had a few days to return the gs7 edge if there was something i didnt like.
Im not sure if my gold was a lemon version cause i couldnt compare to amything else but the black version i got is much better in speed and lag. This flys and butter smooth MUCH MORE SMOOTHER lag free than the nexus 6p. I for one are not into custom room, thr most important thing for me is getting better battety life with my nexus 6p i was able tl jump from 4 sot to 6sot with a different kernel. I get 10sot with my gs7 edge nom root. My i root for adaway, and i do love the samsung browser let me install adblocker. No ad anymore.
Nexus 6p amazing phone, still have it but im not using it. In speed and lag tge nexus 6p even with stock android cannot compare to the smoothnes and speed of the galaxy s7 edge.
I've been a avid rooter since the tmobile wing days. And having the s7 edge for just about a month so far, I don't have the itch to want to root it like I usually do. It's a really nice phone inside and out.

Opinions and help on lg v10 watch purchase? What works with it?

Curiosity killed the cat I guess and I'm finally looking to get a smartwatch ASAP. I'm a female with a decent sized wrist, so I think I can get away with the bigger watches if needed. Let me know if I posted this in the wrong forum. Its been a while since I've logged on. I went to the dark side for a bit and went to an iphone with Verizon (Samsung went stupid getting rid of sd card support on their s6 and my hubs s5 was too glitchy for me to go to, thus the dark side and leaving my old note4 ) before finally switching to ATT and getting a V10 and back on android.
I'm torn on if I should try out the LG Watch Urbane 2 or if I should try a Samsung Gear S2 Classic or if I should look at something like the 2nd gen Moto 360.
I tend to not do great with silicone-like products (yay allergies) so the band on the LG Urbane 2 has me concerned but everything else about it seems to be ok.
On the Samsung side, I worry about compatibility and being able to use its features well. However, I love the bezel on it and the ability to change out watch bands.
What about the moto 360 second gen?
I want to be able to track my distance pretty easily, (even with the phone) when I go running, and I want to have notifications as I need them. I want the dang thing to work with the v10, I'm hearing mixed reviews about this phone playing nice with others. I also want a pretty decent battery life to go 12-16 hours when needed.
Help, ideas recommendations before I drop a pretty penny on this device? Also, would you go for the ones that connect to a carrier or just through the phone and no carrier involvement?
Thanks folks!
CMMELTON2
bump please?
I can't offer any input at all on the smartwatch area, don't have one, and actually don't know anyone with one (although, I'm starting to get an interest). I do have a BT headset and I've also paired it to 3-4 different car BT connections without issue either. So I haven't experienced any connectivity issues, if that helps at all
As far as the V10? I think it's a great device. I've been very happy with mine(AT&T). The development end has been very very slow going, due to lock down so if you are really interested in custom ROMS, there might be something available for T-Mo, but with the locked bootloaders on AT&T/Verizon custom ROMS are going to be really hard if not impossible to get.
That aside, I can typically get 4 maybe 5 hours screen on time. Admittedly, the battery on my Note 3 was much better, but I actually like the V10 better than the Note 3. (I'd also had Sam devices since the Captivate/2010'ish) so the change was very welcome
I have been looking at Smartwatches for quite some time. I wanted to get the LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition when it first came out, but it got pulled before I could buy one. So I started to look into others. The Gear S2 was the only other one that grabbed my interest. Having the ability to make and take calls and to text and basically be untethered to my phone is what I want. If you have an LG phone and go with the Gear S2, you lose a lot of that. Now that the LG Watch is back on the market, I have preordered it and will be getting it in the mail tomorrow. I can't wait to try it out. I will let you know how it is, but I can tell you this, since you are in the LG ecosystem, I would heavily consider the LG Watch as you will have better results. Also, this watch was first designed to work with the V10 so that is a major plus for me.
Thanks for the replies. Let me know how you like that LG watch 2 for sure. My biggest worry is that I will wind up allergic to the band. That and I'm not thrilled with them only getting black this round and no option to change the bands out.
I did not know that the watch was designed to work with the v10. That's a huge plus.
I hope the battery and fitness options on it works.
Anyone with opinion on moto 360 2nd gen or if I should try one without a carrier involved.

Check this out, looks good to me. I might even look into one myself

Yea, that's the one I am looking at. The only thing is ATT only offers it in black with no plans for others anytime soon and I'm worried if the band is something I'm allergic to then I'm SOL when trying to switch out bands because its not allowed.

By the way, in response to your other post, I love the LG V10. I'm a little peeved that there isn't as many products that are compatible with the phone compared to iphone or samsung, but the ability to not be as afraid of dropping my phone and only keeping a clear case and glass screen protector on it is great.
As for the custom roms, when I had the early droid motorolas and all of the samsungs, I felt the absolute need to customize and throw on roms. Plus, VZ and ATT are horrible about bloat. On the v10, I feel like I can actually use my phone regardless of bloat and there is no horrible touchwiz hell. The need to root and customize the rom is low in this device which is a first for me with android.
Sorry if any error with spelling or grammatical issues, my 1 year old thought it would be fun to bash my eye with her head this am and I can't see out of it now, and my face is too swollen to have my bifocals on lol.

Yea no kidding. My plans to go out an about today went to hell after that hit. I really don't want to explain why i have a swollen eye and eyelid with bruising all around it today to every one I see. Make up isn't covering it and as a female I really don't need a bunch of people thinking the worst.
Go figure my girl doesn't hurt or have any pain from it, she's got a hard head like her daddy.
Does anyone else have an opinion on a watch before I spend awful amounts of money on a smartwatch in the AM?
