[APP] Paperless List (UK Market only)

Last Friday I uploaded my Android app Paperless List to the Market (UK only). It's a shopping list application driven by the Tesco API . It has the usual scan barcode and search functions but with some unique features:
-Horizontal swipe gestures (only on Android 1.6 or above) or context menu to cross off items
-Manually add items
-Total price of list visible at all times
-Using chrome to phone on the Tesco.com website, products and searches can be sent straight to the phone from a PC. This works on Froyo (Android 2.2) only and requires a sign in to the Tesco.com site on the PC. More on that here: http://ubikapps.net/?p=618
-Froyo (Android 2.2) apps to SD compatible
-Action bar and dashboard design patterns utilised for quick access to main functions
Despite using the latest Android features the app runs only requires version 1.5 (cupcake) or above. I know I am not the first with a Tesco app on Android but I started development on mine before the others appeared.

I have checked to make sure i'm on the latest version on my N1 and Chrome and the phone is registered and i've signed in and out on the chrome side of things!
Anyone else come across this

Hi bewA, thanks for trying out my app. I just tried it and its working on mine (with Chrome to phone plugin V0.3). Chrome to phone goes a bit weird sometimes if you install a new version. Try restarting Chrome and trying again. Oh and BTW for the first time you do it and have to sign in, it won't actually send the link to the phone. You have to send it a 2nd time (after signing in).

This APP is amazing for someone like me who constantly forgets to buy stuff, my wife has to write me lists which I usually lose or leave at home, Now she can send stuff from home straight to my phone, which I always have on me.
(That could be a major selling point BTW, you leave work, switch on your phone & get a list of shopping.)
Keep up the great work, it's nice to finally start getting useful apps for a change instead of another stupid Fart app.

Currently it only displays the first 20 search results (for speed). If you search for "dog food" then there are probably more than 20 results. In a future release I will change this so that you can click on a "More" button to get the next 20.
You can always scan the barcode of the product if you have it handy!

Sorry I'm only an Android developer. Learning Windows mobile is not high on my list of priorities at the moment!

I have just uploaded V1.3 to the Market. Here's the full changelog:
-Keyboard hidden when search results displayed
-Search box auto-completes using history. Use menu to clear search history
-Progress wheel aligned better
-Low pixel density devices (e.g. HTC Tattoo) supported

V1.4 is in the Market. Here's the change log:
-Offers shown in search and list highlighted in blue
-Added disclaimer dialogue box about prices being from the Tesco.com store
-Bug fix: gestures at the bottom of long lists corrected. The wrong item was getting crossed off
-Bug fix: prices for low cost products (<£1) corrected
-Various force close issues resolved

V1.5 is in the market now. Here's the change log:
-Screen now stays on when shopping list is displayed
-Bug fix: gestures in long lists no longer cross of multiple items
-Bug fix: manual items stay crossed off

[FIXED]Smart Lock- Trusted Places

Why isn't there any option for "Trusted Places" in the Smart Lock settings? This is supposed to be one of the features of Lollipop that I want to enable. Am I missing something?

UPDATE: Thanks to Kenkiller. Reboot, after installing Google play service apk, I now have the option. (There seems to be an issue with tapatalk uploading image so I will repost screen shot when it's fixed)

I found several sites mentioning it and they provided links to the latest Google play services apk. But after installing the latest apk, I still don't have the option.

I installed a new version before confirming the Shield Tablet's play services version number. I installed the -438 version from the apkmirrors site. I didn't notice the instructions on comparing version numbers until after Would anyone be so kind as to confirm if I installed the right version or not? Thanks.

I installed - 438 and it's working for me after reboot.

My play services ends in 736, but do not see an updated version for this version.

I'm not sure what I had previous to updating to -438 but I'm just glad it's working now. Why don't you just install -438?

I can confirm: original installed version on mine is 6.1.88 (1557022-736).
According to the notes:
-x36 is supposed to be for 320 DPI & armeabi-v7a CPU
-x38 is supposed to be for 480 DPI & armeabi-v7a CPU
So using -438 looks like it's the wrong DPI for the Shield tablet. There may be more differences as well.
-4xx vs. -7xx there isn't a clear difference outlined - perhaps Nexus device vs. other?
Might be better to wait until a 6.5.87+ for -736 is released..

I installed it and it does work. It works when the GPS can check where you are. In my house it's 50/50 if it works for trusted locations since Maps tends to see me as being 2 house down when I'm in my house. So .. yeah. I still have to do the 4 digit pin over 50% of the time.
It's a start.

Trusted places would be better if it used connected Wi-Fi networks as a validation - I'm in a building and with Trusted places the way it's currently set up, the whole building appears as a trusted place instead of a specific apartment/unit...Perhaps a feature for a future version...

Most probably not going to be implemented as wifi networks can be easily spoofed. You can just imagine the tech idiots going to town with that info saying how insecure Android is with such "slipshod" security.
Just implement it yourself with secure settings and llama/tasker.

Agreed - that's why I said 'connected' Wi-Fi (not just SSID based) - of course, this likely means you'd have to leave Wi-Fi on during sleep, but I'm fine with that (actually prefer it).

hmmmm... I think if you have pattern set up as your security method you can't program with tasker (even with secure settings) that when connected to certain wifi you get no pattern unlocking....
I use Skiplock for my 4.4.4 device and the author has mentioned that this app will not be able to work on Lollipop due to the way it handles this security issue, even with root.

Work profile custom keyboard problem after updating to android 8

Hi,
I have a problem and I do not know how to resolve it. I have a work profile on my phone (Samsung Galaxy s8+) and everything has been working fine until now.
Today I updated to android 8.0.0 Oreo from android 7.0 and after that I did a full wipe. When I restored all my apps and settings I decided to log in in Device Policy app to create work profile.
Everything was succesfull but after a while I noticed that keyboard changed back to original Samsung keyboard. So I went to settings and tried to change keyboard but I could not do that because it was disabled by admin. The problem is that I can not use custom keyboard in my work profile and in my personal profile either. If it was only in work profile I would understand that but I do not know why it is disabled in my personal account.
I went throught G suite admin console but I did not find the option how to disable this behaviour so I think it is Oreo behaviour or it has to do something with Knox.
I do not know where is the problem. It was working fine on android 7.0 but now I can not use custom keyboard.
Can you please help me how I can make custom keyboard to work on my phone without deleting my work profile?

Ultimately I had to disable the work profiles and let the device policy take to the entire phone.

Do you know if it is problem with Oreo in general or just on Galaxy with Oreo?
I do not have other device with Oreo so I can not try it.
I do not want to disable work profile and have device policy to takeover my device.

Same issue here on S9 Oreo. Is there a way to not use Workspace/Knox as it seems like a bug in that?

I've tested on a Oneplus with Oreo and all good

Same problem on S9+. Defeats the purpose of Work Profile imho... I was not able to enable Gboard, Swype or SwiftKey. I'm demoing InTune for my company, and by default there are no device restrictions, especially nothing about third-party keyboards or settings, etc. So it seems to be Knox-specific, with no way to actually control those settings that I've found yet.
Side note: deleting the work profile (that is, removing the Company Portal app, which removes the rest) restored my ability to select my own keyboard.
Now, I know keyboards can collect whatever data you type... but I specifically allowed Gboard (for example) as an approved app within the Microsoft InTune admin center, and I *still* couldn't enable it.
Samsung: please explain.

I've logged a ticket for Samsung and they made a troubleshooting. They said it was a incompatibility from Google Device Policy and Knox. Also, the technician told me to send an email to GDP Developers. I will do this week and forward the answer (if) here.

I spoke to gsuite support who confirmed its a problem between Knox and GDP - they directed me to this forum!
"It seem to be caused by an incompatibility from Google Device Policy and Knox, in relation to security policies. I would suggest to contact Samsung for further troubleshooting in relation to this. The only workaround at this time is to not use a Work profile on your Samsung device"

sad news to read the last replies as that means it is unlikely to be addressed anytime soon. I love the Work Profile but hate the native keyboard on S9+. I guess I'll have to get used to it....

Note 8 user here with the same issue. Super disappointed and hoping for a quick fix..

I just got latest security update from march 1st but the problem with keyboard remains.
Did someone came with the solution?
Does Samsung know about this problem?

There is also a small change which doesn't appear very important to most people but it does to me In previosu version of Android (Nougat) keyboard in regular environment and Knox could be set to different languages, which was really cool for me, since I lie abroad and use different languages for work and private. So in Knox I could have Czech keyboard all the time, while when I switch bakc I'd automatically have Serbian. Now it just inherits the setting to the last set keyboard... ugh

I installed CRC5 leaked build (public is CRC2) and the issue is still present. I'd like to bang my head against the wall.

A G-Apps user replied this:
Samsung unified the Work Profile and Knox workspaces, and one of the changes is that there is only 1 input method allowed unless the Knox IT admin whitelists other 3rd party keyboards.
I've yet to figure out how this whitelisting works or its basis. I think it's an awful policy, especially considering ir forces you to use the even more awful Samsung keyboard.

Always on display limited on A8

Hi everyone,
I posting here to point out how limited is the Always on display feature on this phone.
Before getting in the subject, what is Always on Display (aod) ?
AOD is a native Samsung feature (it does exist on other phone with different names) that allow smartphones to show informations on the screen when it's off. This feature is useful not to have to turn the screen so many times in the day to check the notifications and hour. This is a feature made possible with AMOLED screens allowing black pixels to stay off and those prevent the screen using much battery.
Now that everyone know what we are talking about, I can show you what I mean and where I want to go with this thread. Here is a screen from a Samsung Galaxy s8:

What appears is that we can't use images even if it is teased on the play store description of the aod app. Here a screen from the play store :
And we cannot use the edge clock.
Finally, the number of backgrounds and customisations is very poor : a very few amount of colors and 4 backgrounds.
I've been looking for a way to use the edge clock, or an image and couldn't find any.
The only partial solution I found for images is an app called Custom AOD

oh yes we will receive it, atleast the unknown carrier version cuz carriers can be crap sometimes like at&t not updating the note 4 to marshmallow...

Thanks for the info. I just bought an A8 through Virgin, I'm in western Canada and hoping to get the update this month...the wifi reliability has been terrible and I've done all the troubleshooting I can. I don't want to send it for warranty (only had it 3 weeks) until I get Oreo and see if it was a software issue that was resolved with the Oreo update.

If it's a virgin version it might be delayed except if it's an unlocked version

About customisation with Oreo: I find it even more restrictive. the background isn't an option anymore. We don't have edge clock (and probably never will since it has been made to fit with the curved screen). Also we still cannot pin images. The only step forward is the access to themes through the store, but let me tell you a thing: it's actually always the same style with just different colors and a different image (that you cannot change by yourself ).
I'm being so negative because I see a lot of potential, I'm always disappointed with those features that doesn't allow personalisation but don't get me wrong, I really like AOP ?

the oreo update is out for every a8 variant other than a530w... we're both stuck on nougat ?
also yes the wifi is VERY bad, i only get half the speed of my wifi and sometimes it even disconnects
this is not a warranty problem either, its supposed to be like that apparently because i sent my phone to warranty and they said it was a software problem...

Mh so right now AOD app features are basically same as high-end devices ones lol (expect edge clock; not sure if it needs just the SecProductFeature string put or if it needs even all the Edge apks/frameworks). If you wanna get some more features (even if I doubt there are lol) open /system/etc/floating_feature.xml file, search for the AOD Feature string (SEC_FLOATING_FEATURE_FRAMEWORK_CONFIG_AOD_ITEM) and delete "-fhd_limit," feature.

Thanks for the idea, I'm not rooted tho, I'll wait until the garanty expire before doing so, but I keep the idea in mind. My hope for that feature goes to Android P(if we get it .. in about a year ?) , they can clearly improve it, it's already cool, but it feels so limited speaking of customisation.

It's just as it should be lol, if Samsung continues to add more **** like gifs or more colorful ux on AOD it will drain lot more of battery even tho the phone goes in Doze, and 10% more of battery isn't bad to have

Nope you do anything with that file coz it is just an ota not full ota , so you cannot flash manually

I have tries some method below.
1. create folder named "ota_package" and copy file without rename into it (not work), if rename "update.zip" (not work too).

Every day I discover new bugs:
- at every reboot, the "exchange synchronization email" must be put back into PUSH
- at every reboot, the SIM call alert, must be disabled beacause does not remain set
- menus not translated correctly, i use the language in Italian, but some menus are in Polish? Or unknown...(in "performance manager")
- i have 2 sims inserted, when receive calls from the second sim the "phone" menu does not appear on the screen but I only see the graphic notification and the ringtone. I have no way of responding except with other devices such as watches or cars.
- there is no way to access the contacts directory from apps (whatsapp ...)
