Could someone please make a video how the s7 behaves regarding mulit tasking. We know that the s6 had major problems with this. There were a lot of tweaks with LMK but nothing really satisfying.
So please, open some apps (also chrome with some tabs open), maybe a game or two and jump between the recent apps.
With 4 gigs of ram there should not be a reload ...

Multitasking is fixed. We have tested it on MWC stands, using many different apps and opening a lot of browser tabs, and it works so good.

"It works so good" or "Multitasking is fixed", well I disagree, define fixed? That you with 4 GB of RAM (In my opinion) only can have a maximum of 7-8 apps running in the background is not by any means great or "fixed".
There are Android phones that are equipped with 3- and some even with 2- GB:s of RAM that can handle up to 12 simultaneous running APPS in the background with no issue, and thats not even considering the IOS´platforms RAM-capabilities, but that's a different subject all together.
Don't get me wrong I am Very excited about the S7 and have ordered a S7 Edge myself but when someone asks a direct question that for the person could be a deciding factor about buying the phone, then an accurate answer from a fellow XDA-members should be a matter of course.
A just answer will probably be difficult to give before reviewers have gotten their hands on a device with final software and thoroughly test the RAM management, for now i´ll let the video speak for itself.

I Agree, I´ve got the Edge+, I'm not a big gamer but personally for me it gets very frustrating when the browser and youtube reloads. Can't imagine it's anything other than software, here's hoping Google brings better bulit in native RAM-management in the next iteration of Android

Thanks for the video! Looks like it's not fixed that much in S7.
As for other arguments, I completely agree. I'm an insane simultaneous-running-apps multitasker and my Note 3 with 3GB of RAM is good enough, when set up properly. Tabs rarely reload (unless browser is designed that way by default always to reload) and I don't lose sessions.
This is crucial to me and that's why I have shunned later updates (both ROM and hw).
I need this to be much better not 25% better (2 apps more on S7) and no 15 minutes of fiddling at MWC booth is going to convince me that some "timed triggers" or "memory garbage collection" routines are not lurking there, when you are not using your phone for , say 30 minutes (or using _that_ specific bg app for 1 hour).
So, phones need to ship and real people need to test them in real-life use, before we can know for sure it's fixed.
To be fair, she didn't try more than 8 apps. She counted that 8 apps were already running and then she tried a memory intensive game after that. For all we know it could have handled some more apps so I don't think we can make any proper judgement from that video.

For all we know the game-launcher might actually cause more apps to be closed in the background just to provide the user with the best experience possible. As long as it doesn't close apps in the background after 4 or more apps are open, it's fine.

Yes, but it depends on the which apps, not how many. Chrome or apps using chromium are killing my SGS6 because each is using over 200mb of ram. My phone has a tweaked Low Memory killer what is much better than before, but still, using chromium kills most of the apps in the background. Even if the phone sleeps, it seems to me that after some time apps were killed, although I removed all the bloat from samsung. I love this phone, but the reloads are big sh*t. If this is similar on the s7, I would never buy it. Sadly there is no alternative yet. Nexus 6p is to big for me.

Samsung did go on record stating that the multitasking will be much better on the S7. Wouldn't trust this one video. And the phone should close apps when playing a game to give the user the best experience possible.

No, it's not fixed. If you leave an app for few hours it will get out from memory. It simply sucks and you cannot rely on anything.
For example opened just a few apps yesterday before going to sleep. Switched between them, all ok. A few hours later app reloads. Almost all of them! Chrome (one simple page), Maps, Keep, Yahoo Mail.. reloaded.
Phone uptime: aprox 75 hours.
Edit: by disabling apps battery saver (and restarting), the system keeps the apps opened the next day. However, if i use an app for more time, system pushes out recently apps from ram

Fantastic. Superb performance in this price range. Sometimes small lags is there but thats only if i applied any heavy modded themes. If we use stock themes no issues for me. Overall very happy with the speed. Never got any delay in any apps. Superb....

You have to give the permission to file explorer & then you can install the app from file explorer doesn't work if you install from UC browser or other platforms directly.

My 3gb USA model gets me from day to day operations but suffers from severe freezing/lag at random times while browsing the web or viewing social media. I barely see any forums mentioning similar behavior so I'm starting to think I need to factory reset or I have a defective unit

Mine does this. Will basically freeze and not let me do anything. Does it often. I guess I will reset and see what happens.
Love the phone but can't handle the lag.
I'm stumped by people that say it's fast with no issues.

Yeah I feel like I'm in the twilight zone when I see people saying the speed is fine with minimal lag. That what leads me to think we may have defective units. With the Honor 6x I've seen people say that a factory reset fixed their issues.
Much better after factory reset. Slows still from time to time but no just stand still freezes. Bearable. I want this phone with these features with flagship internals though still. Thinking the view 10 may fit that when it comes to US.

ya i am also facing the same problem when i am using third party application it shows gray button to install and i am not able to instal the app
Better performance.
I've found that disabling many of the Honor and EMUI apps (via Package Disabler or other methods) has made a huge difference in speed as well as battery life personally.
I've also experienced seemingly random slowdowns. Facebook seems to trigger it alot. clearing open apps speeds it back up.
Interestingly, it seems like it could be a ram issue, but i've never seen less than 1gb free ram, usually about 1.4gb free
I'll try disabling the emui/huawei apps to see if that helps.
I can't wait for oreo and project treble, then i can run regular aosp based without the emui bs.

They probably post after only using it a few days. Mine was fine at first. After about a week sometimes it would freeze, especially if I'd recently used facebook and chrome the keyboard would struggle. I'd need to either wait or kill a few apps and it would go back to being okay.
The stock camera software has a lot of features, but it is waaaaaay to slow.
I needed a new phone, but we had a lot of expenses last year and so I bought something cheap. It's not terrible. I'll be happy to get a year out of it.
So by now I've mentioned a few times already how awful my experience with the ram management has been.
If I have chrome open I can go look for something on other app and when I come back chrome will be wiped out of memory.
This is for me a normal everyday use of my phone, I'm not trying to look to some absurd way of doing speed tests or whatsoever.
This videos is based on something that happened today.
Scenario: I had music playing on GPM, I was browsing the web, and somebody answered to me on a Dutch forum asking why I thought the G7 haptics were so awesome (and yes it is), so I wanted to go to the camera app so I could just confirm what parts of the software would have a feedback attached to it after playing a bit I accidentally pressed the shutter button, at this moment the music stream should lower the volume for the shutter sound, well the music simply stopped and GPM was force killed, and so was chrome .
It isn't lack of ram, 4GB is more than enough for a flagship phone to work, besides the phone reports having over 400MB of free memory.
What have I done so far:
-Because after I got the phone I got an OTA update, I actually did a full reinstall via LG bridge and a software reset
-10f update was also done via LG bridge
-I have kept the installed apps at a minimum, and no app shows excessive ram or battery usage.

I assure you, his device isn't defective.
I find the app killing to be MUCH stronger than I was used to after two years on the OnePlus 3. (A wonderful, smooth device, even two years later! Yes, I still miss it.) I was thinking it was the drop from 6 to 4GB of RAM, but it just isn't taking them out of RAM, it's entirely background killing apps from the recents list too. I used to have apps in my recents list I hadn't opened for WEEKS on the OnePlus. So I'm also inclined to believe it's aggressive RAM management on LG's part.
It's not unliveable for me, but definitely noticed, and a bit shocking that a flagship two years newer isn't as good in pretty much any respect as something 'budget' from two years back.
LG bloat and everything is terrible on this device. I wish when they release the android one G7 that they make it available to install on the flagship G7.

I also can assure you that this is Not normal! I get nothing like this on my G7. I can multitask between many many apps all day long and none close, music plays no matter what etc etc
No problems here either, I migrated from my old phone yesterday and had 110 apps installing and configuring them. No unwanted force closing as far as I could see, listened to YT Music for a long time and no glitch, all notifications works just fine. I'm on 10f.

It was (is) on Android 8.0. We got it on the OP3 last year. They're skipping 8.1 and going straight to 9.0 on them though .. and that'll be the last official update for the 3/3T series. But they're unlocked and really easy to flash, so the ROM community will look after future Android versions for quite some time I'd imagine. The specs of those phones will keep them going strong for a long time. Basically until something fails catastrophically.
I'm hoping LG will be a BIT timely with updates to the G7 ThinQ. They really don't have a great reputation for it though, so I'm not holding my breath.
Maybe the next update (10g) will fix it.
I'm having problems with the poor ram management too. I used to have an xperia XZ Premium with same 4gb of ram where i never encountered these ram problems.
I've yet debloated the G7 which improved but didn't improve to a satisfying point. Has anyone tried some of the ram booster apps and do any of them work as expected?

I had this issue with the HTC U11 on stock. It was just a complete pain. So, I installed the latest unofficial Lineage ROM on it and it's been working pretty well since. I don't currently have this problem on my g7 yet.

I have the same problem and it is f*** annoying! I have the 8GB version of the OP7pro and I don't know why the phone always closes my apps after a certain amount of time. I have disabled all (as far as I know) battery optimization features and also disabled the RAM booster.
In parallel I still run a Galaxy Note 3 with a really old custom rom, which has started to act a bit buggy now, but this phone does not overwrite MY settings and kills apps I want to keep open.
Does anyone know how to get rid of this behavior? Or is the only way to flash a custom rom again? I don't know if it is related to Oxygen OS or Android 9.

This is the problem with Chinese oems. Aggressive ram management, notification problems, not quite there cameras. Having the hardware is one thing. Software r & d is something else.
Can't remember exactly where I read it but...OnePlus is supposedly working on an update to "fix" the problem with aggressive killing of background apps as a result of all the complaints they receive concerning this issue. Something that can possibly help along with shutting off all battery/ram management is to lock your open apps to keep them open. While scrolling through your open apps you will see a three dot menu in the top right corner and one of the options is to "lock" the app which is supposed to lock it in memory/RAM. YMMV

Are we sure this isn't a Pie issue? I just came from a pixel 3xl and had the same issues in the beginning. Everyone blamed the 4gb RAM as the culprit. Google eventually updated a Fix but it wasn't 100% fixed. It was better but apps still closed to early. So maybe we're looking at an Android problem. Who knows

This is totally crap, I switched from my Note 3, which I still like very much (but only with AOSP based custom ROM) to OP because I don't like the way Samsung and Huawei gone to. I'm not rooted right now, so I can not tell what can be done with Magisk Modules or Xposed Modules (or other mods) on a Oxygen based ROM.
Can someone tell if this behavior can be stopped with mods or is the only way to switch to an AOSP based ROM again?
I wanted to give Oxygen OS a try but right now I'm not fully convinced with the current situation, even if OP is one of the fastest supplier for updates. I don't like it, when a manufacturer tells me what I can do with a device and what not. At least OP should give me the choice how strict the RAM management is and when I want to get apps closed.
Missing notifications is one other big point. Due to the fact that there is no notification LED and no AOD (STILL) I tried several third party apps to get a AOD, but the battery drain on this apps is heavy as f*** and they often do not work correctly, because the system prevents them to run correctly.
Does anyone know a good way to get a reliable way for notifications?

Not only that. 3rd party apps like notification buddy work but Google Assistant stops working once you install it. I don't know what GA has to do with notification lighting. It's supposed to be a phone first and foremost. OnePlus seems to have forgotten what it is they're making. Something as basic as missed notifications seems not terribly important to them.

I agree. Samsung and Huawei show that AOD can work without heavy battery drain, so why can't OP get this to work or can they but don't want it?
I will root the device and have a look what I can optimize.
What I cannot change (unfortunately I had no chance to hands on the device before I bought it) is the size and the weight. It is to big and way to heavy. Not only while taking a phone call, even if you just hold it in one hand and do some stuff, it gets heavy within a very short time.
Maybe this OP was my first and last one - I will see. But it seems that all devices get bigger and heavier with every iteration, which is totally insane.

It's definitely a pie thing as Android 10 had much better ram management even on pixel 2xl with 4gb ram. I suspect it will resolve most of our problems.

I have a problem with the weight as well, like my previous note 9. I got the s10+ after that, before being enticed by all the YouTube reviews of the 7pro at launch. I'm beginning to regret that decision. Dual speakers are no where near the s10+ and neither is video stabilisation. I'm on the beta 2 now, rooted and the experience is beginning to improve. Sure there are pros like the fast charging, display and the quick implementation of android 10. I can't justify the note 10 and all the year end releases with SD 865 round the corner so I guess I'll just have to put up with it.

You're on Beta software...what do you expect? I'm on stable and all is working fine. I'm on T-Mobile but using an unlocked 7 Pro purchased from OnePlus directly.

Did you actually read what I wrote? The experience has improved on android 10.
i had the s10+ and i couldnt deal with the half bakes software. so oneplus was the natural choice for me.
sure the speakers arent the best but theyre plenty fine - its not like we use our speakers for hidef sound, wireless headphones or a jukebox can take care of the rest (i have these strategically placed around the house so its never an issue when i play music)
failing AOD, dt2w is just as good imo.

If you use Magisk, make sure to flash Ainur Sauron. That's an absolute game-changer for audio quality. I can't say the audio will quite compare to the Note 9 (I own it), but it should be fairly comparable to the S10+ (Have two in the family). The Note 9 has the advantage of actual front-facing speakers since it has bezel.
If you want to use Viper or JamesDSP, you'll need to also flash AML in Magisk which allows for multiple audio mods to be integrated. If you want a simple flash and away w/o further customization, then just flash Ainur Sauron.

Sooo. I have had this phone from T-Mobile for the past few weeks and have a few hot takes on it.
For starters I wanted to return it almost 2 days in after figuring out about the performance this device had. But was promised an update and 2 weeks later it was delivered.
So these hot takes are going to be after the update.
1. So far almost no stutter I've found has been fixed. Home stutter, app stutter all still here.
2. WE SHOULD HAVE TO OPTIMIZE SH*T ON A 1300 DEVICE. The fact that some answers you get here are "did you follow the optimaztion guide?" I shouldn't have to touch anything! Do you think the average consumer is gonna go through the hoops of 3 factory resets, a firmware flash, and praying to whatever God to get sub par performance?
3. The camera lag is rediculous.
I went to AEW (wrestling show) and couldn't even pull my camera up up fast enough to get any good shots!. And not to mention the shutter lag waiting for the image to capture! Also 4k60 recording in a timely manner? Laughable. I have never had this many issues with a Samsung device in the first few weeks as I've had with this one.
4. Signal drops consistently. (Doesn't really bother me because I use wifi calling)
5. Battery has gotten better since the update so no issues there.
6. Snapchat lag in camera ui.

All Samsung's need to be optimized and I'm not talking about enabling power management. It tends to do the opposite and will likely cause erratic behavior.

Wonder if scoped storage is helping to screw it up? It uses extra cpu cycles not sure if it impacts ram usage though. I deliberately avoided Android 11 and 12 because of it... no regrets.

I think people need to accept that Android is essentially malware and was designed by a company to continuously extract as much information on you as possible behind the scenes. I would estimate at least 90% of all Android apps participate in this game to gain your info for profit. People wonder why phones are sluggish with all this activity happening in the background. This is the cost for all of us users to get an OS and application environment for free.
So the fact that each of us needs to fine tune, debloat, optimize, etc on any new phone to reign in the OS and apps to get acceptable performance is not something new. It really is a journey to research and get any phone working smoothly as each one of us has different use cases.
PS - my new S22 Ultra (SD/T-Mobile) is fast as lightning and I'm very happy with it.
This has been the worst new phone transition I've ever had. From trying to order to Samsung stretching the truth about the specs, to configuring every app from scratch. To multiple Factory Resets just to solve something buggy. To Google apps not performing the same.
I expected the major debloat and privacy settings. I did not expect T-Mo to install Facebook 4 times nor that it would take 6 phone calls to unlock a phone I paid for fully.
I am happy with the performance, screen, and the camera is beyond words. Hoping I am about done configuring and side loading. adb is your friend.
So far, the S22 Ultra feels like the Note20 Ultra with faster data speeds, better battery life, and slightly better camera. There is nothing earth shattering but overall seems a bit better. My only complaints are the weaker vibrate motor and lack of microSD card support.
I had a chance to test the S21 Ultra against the S22 Ultra and found the S21 Ultra to have slightly better speakers, stronger vibration motor, slightly better battery life and it's nice that it comes with up to 16 GB RAM. It's easier to hold as well, but the screen aspect ratio is less practical in many cases. It also gets warmer than the S22 Ultra.
For everything that improves with these iterative upgrades, there are a few steps back. If you're happy with your Note20 Ultra or S21 Ultra, I'd say there's no rush to upgrade unless you get an amazing deal.

Not seeing any of the lag with shutter you talking about. With or without the flash and 4k 60fps video recording works fine too even in the dark. As for the Ram+ I got mine set at 8gb and I can open and run 12 apps without any problem whatsoever. Never had any problems with T-Mobile signal. Maybe you should try a fresh install? I havent really had any issues since day one other than battery life sucks. I didn't do a fresh install either. I just used Samsung Smartwatch to setup the phone exactly like my S20U which I traded for the Unlocked 512gb using a prepaid T-Mobile plan so no T-mobile software or bloat on here.

Sorry. No. This ain't it cheif. People make the same argument for TVs (that if they were to make "dummy" TVs without Android it would be a $5K set... um $5K TVs exist and still have the spyware). The gaslighting by manufacturers is real.
Also 2~5K sets then did indeed exist, and for the sake of argument I'm not gonna talk inflation cause it really didn't change /that/ much aside from all mfr's getting greedy since covid. 2010's "smart" TVs didn't exist and the "smart" features were only on more expensive sets, as well as being more useless than today.
I paid for the hardware. But it's a "license to use" argument is the same bull that the pro-copyright NES crowd uses... sheesh

Something is wrong if you're getting bad battery life. It's because you didn't do a fresh install, try factory resetting and it'll be way better.

Factory reset guarantees nothing. Best to find the root cause to avoid a recurrence. Since each load is unique to the user, unique issues can and do evolve.
Use factory reset for: major upgrades, if you used SmartSwitch (don't make the same mistake twice), malware or if a buggy 3rd party app that altered hidden user settings you can't undo.

It's a last resort but if has to be done then that's what you gotta do. It's the endgame. If it don't work after that your screwed.

If you inadvertently add the app(s) or setting(s) that caused it, you just shot yourself in the foot, again.
Never use SmartSwitch if the first load went bad using it, do a clean load instead.
Tracking down the cause can be time consuming but it's a lesson learned and time saved in the future; a reload is very time consuming. I reserve it for primarily boot loops and persistent malware.
My current load has been saved from a factory reset a couple of times, still fast, stable and fulfilling its mission. It will be 2 yo this June.
Some those fixes seemed impossible at first but all were done within the confines of a stock Android without using adb edits, etc.

It's completely unpredictable. I've used SmartSwitch without issues. I don't trust it at all though... I remember Kies
It may have screwed up the load on my newest N10+, still troubleshooting it. It developed a... lag No big deal.
Almost all issues can be resolved by simply "playing" with it, Adroids wuv attention.

Given the A53 is a "budget" device with low end hardware, the best you can really do is run a "clean" OS with as little bloat as possible. There isn't much that will make your device faster besides reducing what is running at any given time.

Thank you these usefull advise. i will try it asap and will feedback that what is the result.
This phone was definitely slower when I first got it. It took a few days of use for it to get adjusted. I also always replace the launcher with nova, keyboard with gboard, and messages with signal.
Then I use ADB to remove a couple of stupid packages. Like anything Facebook related any of the AR packages, apps that I don't use (why the hell does Samsung have two messaging apps on a phone stock?).
I came from the OnePlus 6t and I feel like this device is only a minor upgrade overall. In the end that's kind of all I was looking for because the 6t still ran great.
I do notice some poor responsiveness in the touch screen from time to time (although that seems to be getting better each day) and I definitely noticed a pretty big delay when I use voice to text. It definitely takes a second to fire up the mic which leads to it picking up where I'm talking mid sentence.
I may yank out more of the Samsung system apps as time goes on. For the moment I'm enjoying the Bixby routines because it's keeping me from needing to install Tasker. I recommend everyone try that at their own risk. Do some research first but there are a lot of system apps and processes that Samsung preloads in here that always run in the background sucking up precious RAM. I say try it at your own risk because if you uninstall the wrong applications you can mess your phone up pretty bad.
Also Facebook is a big resource hog. Even on an iPhone 13 it can stutter occasionally or even freezes specially in marketplace and makes the phone run hot. If you don't mind using the mobile version I would highly recommend using that instead the app.
I also think there is better devices for less mOney that even offer more but probably never get those 4 software updates. I agree 100% about facebook. I stopped using the app shortly after they first released it LOL. I find it much much easier to just use the mobile website.
I was looking at some Chinese devices as well before settling on this. One of the reasons I went with the a53 5G is compatibility with T-Mobile's 5G in my area. Also the software and support factored in. I was lucky enough to have my 6t for almost 4 years. That's the longest I've ever had a smartphone for and I really enjoyed being able to get that much lifespan out of a inexpensive device compared to the competition. The promise of support for this device led me to choose it even though it's only a mild upgrade from what I had before.

It is laggy because Samsung picked the weaker hardware for this phone (even though it sells for mid range price, there is no SD778 or Exynos 1080 or Dimensity 1200). As others said you could disable things and only use 60Hz screen. But if you haven't bought it yet you can buy the A52s which will be smoother.

Did removing these packages help performance? I am going back and forth about whether to return the phone or not (the camera is unusable at the moment - but hopefully that changes with software updates - I am yet to receive the April update). Thanks.

Removing packages helped free up some RAM. I'm definitely not experiencing the level of lag you're describing and the camera seems fine compared to my 6t.
This phone is half the price of most flagship devices. I'm not sure what your expectations are for such a device. Perhaps you should get a better device, or wait for the new oneplus Nord and see how it's performs.

I'm confused. I don't have Facebook on my A53 or ADB wasn't needed if it was originally (and not system app). Did you grab a carrier one? That would explain it to me. Not seeing lag on my unlocked A53.
If you grabbed an unlocked one then I don't know why you'd have lag unless it had a physical issue or you use something I don't use that causes it.

Enable developer options and disable all animations should fix this without the need for installing a 3rd party launcher or other software.

Hmmm, the camera takes about 1 to 2 seconds to take a photo, and sometimes doesn't take a photo at all and because of the lag I often miss the photo opportunity because I am waiting to see if it worked (daytime photos). The rest is manageable, but still laggier then my old S9+, I at least thought it would match that performance (I don't game, so only day to day use performance is important for me). Seems like my phone is unusually slow, maybe something went wrong when transferring over from s9+ and I should start fresh with a factory reset! Everything else about the phone is great, so I will persevere . A few software updates should hopefully smooth things out. Thanks for the help/suggestions.

Hmmm, the camera takes about 1 to 2 seconds to take a photo, and sometimes doesn't take a photo at all and because of the lag I often miss the photo opportunity because I am waiting to see if it worked (daytime photos). The rest is manageable, but still laggier then my old S9+, I at least thought it would match that performance (I don't game, so only day to day use performance is important for me). Seems like my phone is unusually slow, maybe something went wrong when transferring over from s9+ and I should start fresh with a factory reset! Everything else about the phone is great, so I will persevere . A few software updates should hopefully smooth things out. Thanks for the help/suggestions.

If its only the camera from press to saved then the April update should mostly if not fully solve that. You have the April update yet or not?
For me it seems to be under a second after April update. Pre-April it was more like 3-5 seconds.
Not really something I would have cared that much about either way lol. Just have to get used to it.
I've had this phone almost a week now.. I have SwiftKey as my kb...
Can't say I've noticed any type of lag on this device... 120hz, dark mode background services running, wifi calling on you name it.
What are y'all even all the reviewers doing to experience lag??

Given the A53 is a "budget" device with low end hardware, the best you can really do is run a "clean" OS with as little bloat as possible. There isn't much that will make your device faster besides reducing what is running at any given time.

A53 is not a "Budget" device. It is mid level. Samsung's budget devices are the A1#, A2# and A3# phones.
