New Smartphone Battery Idea - General Topics

I've come up with the idea of two battery smartphone that eliminates the use and hassle of phone chargers. I couldn't submit it anywhere so If any of you have a chance to submit it anywhere feel free to forward it. Just don't forget to mention my name. You can download the project PDF file from the attachments . And feel free to make suggestions and ask questions! Hope you guys like it and excuse my English.

I don't like the idea. If you keep removing your battery, there will be a problem with you back cover and also battery. I think it is better to use one battery rather than two.

If you read project well, you could see that device will have slot rather than back cover which is making battery replacement process faster and safer. And if you give me reasons for one battery advantages or why you like that way, I'd like to comment on that too.

[Q] 2500mAh slim battery

Hi folks!
I have ordered and tried that replacement battery (look in google, from sunsky. can not yet post urls).
Though I had read somewhere that its actual capacity may vary from 2000 up to 2500mAh, I wanted give it a try because it is not so expensive, with a hope that it helps a bit.
Anyone else have tried it already?
Unfortunately I can tell, that I feel no difference to our standard 1800mAh. But I may be wrong.
For that reason I would like use a battery life testing tool and as a reference point, what tool would you suggest me to use to check the battery life from both?
Thanks
I've tried that battery (http://www.sunsky-online.com/view/3...r+Samsung+T699+++Galaxy+S+Relay+4G+++i415.htm)
Unfortunately I found it was sh!ter then the stock battery we have.
Also that sunsky battery lacks NFC. It's cheap for a reason, bad quality in my experience.
Check Nards tweak to the stock 2100mah Samsung S3 battery.
I've performed that trick to 4 of those batteries, and can safely say they perform wonders.

There is a Gold S3 battery available....
Remember the one that went over so well for the 4G Slide?
hehe, considering getting one of those. Only problem is, if I get it and mod it I can't return it if it doesn't come out right
Hello dillalade
yes it is that one from your link which I tried also. I had been indeed influenced by the thread from Nards tweak when gtmaster303 mentioned that battery.
Thats why I wanted give a try to this one first before going further to the tweak.
Also I wanted post this to Accessories first, but because this seems like a question so I came here, and after collecting details I could report there my results as well. (The video on the registration makes you a bit down and stressed, so trying to be careful.)
Can anyone suggest me an app to test the capacity in order to compare them?
@gtmaster303
good idea again to try with Gold S3 battery hehe

I've been looking into the gold battery and you can't always assume they're all the same. Get it from the same seller that's been verified to supply good batteries.
Either way it's still a win for us as the battery has a much higher capacity already. We should see a great improvement in battery no matter which S3 battery we buy

I suspect 'unable to return' won't be your only problem.......
From past readings, I read the Gold S3 battery was slightly thicker than the stock S3 battery.
If my interpretation is correct, then that gold battery (being thicker than stock) would be very hard to accommodate in our Relay battery slot.
I say this from my experience in already utilising the stock S3 battery in our Relay. In that the stock S3 battery is 'already' thicker than our stock Relay battery, such that the stock S3 battery is already a very tight fit (thickness wise.) So much so that closing the back housing door on our Relay is already as snug as I'd like.
Hence ifffff that Gold S3 battery is indeed thicker then the stock S3 battery, than you may have a hard time trying to close the battery cover on our phone with the Gold battery.
In addition to the tighhhht squeeze issue.... similarly to the previously discussed Sunsky battery above - neither can cater for NFC.
All that I can say from weeks of experience with the stock S3 batteries is that I'm able to achieve ~20-30 hours uptime with roughly 2-3hours talk time and 3-4hours screen on time.
I cannot complain thus far. I'd say, It's worth the extra pennies for that OEM Samsung S3 battery with NFC for that extra juice.

alright, we can forget this 2500mAh battery..
I was using it now for not even one week, check the attached pics how it starts behaving on charging now.
It stops charging with 94%, both via pc usb or direct charger.
as an information for others i agree to move this thread to accessories, as i stop experimenting with this battery now.

Yes, that's another thing I failed to mention. I too noticed that Sunsky battery failed to charge to 100%.
I guess we can safely conclude these batteries are cheap as nutts for a reason - they are poor quality. Ridiculous how they get away with stating these bogus MaH capacities.
Go for S3 battery, you will be pleasantly surprised.
I have 4 of them, all of which are rock solid (Samsung OEM products.)

Probably you will not see the difference.
Even if capacity is higher i doubt about quality which end up with similar efficient.
I believe Samsung hold high quality of their products.

I have received the battery now http://s44.photobucket.com/user/blu...0502/05020201/05020201bluestone001_a.jpg.html
Unfortunately it is too thick, 5mm while ours are 4mm.
I can not close the back cover with it, so I can not use it. .. disappointed and sad
Is the original s3 battery then 4.5mm when Nard says "a bit thicker"?
I find that a little hard to believe... how can 1mm make that big of a difference? (pun intended)
is the back cover really that flush that there's no extra room? Not even a slight amount?

3030mah Battery for XT890

Dear all,
it is easy to find proposal for 3030mah batteries on web.
I check in the forum but I do not find review/comment about the satisfaction to integrate such batteries.
I wonder if one of you guys did try to integrate such battery?
Is it really bringing obvious advantage and is it easy to put in place?
Take care all,
Laurent
My battery is starting to get fat, but I'm too scared to disassemble the phone.
Has anyone had success replacing their batteries?
Sent from my XT890
No problem to disassemble it. First screws around screen, after that screws and tapes on motherboard and just tear out battery. If You can do it carefully You can even put back old battery.
Yes, very easy to disassemble. To make you comfortable with it, you go go on youtube. There are different video very clear about the procedure.
Seems the 3030mah battery does not wake up lots of interest.... I keep curious about it.

yeah. I guess there is no miracle and if people would be able to put 3030mah in a battery sizing 2000mah, we would probably already know.
Anyway, I did like you say. I rooted and put Omar Rom(July 16). So far, I am very suprised by the stability and the efficiency of this rom.
I saw two small defects that I can not report as no access yet to the developer chat room.
Then today, thanks to your update I discover greenify. Looks perfect and no ads in.
Thanks !
I had one of those for my XT925. Removed the Golden patch: big surprise: The Cell is labeled 1900mAh.
I put a new genuine Motorola battery in my phone last week. It is really easy to do.
6 screws around edge of phone. Pry off the plastic piece at mouthpiece, 3 screws under it, pry off Motorola badge at earpiece, 2 under it. Gently separate phone and disconnect ribbon cable. Then 7 screws around mother board, pry off battery connector bottom left and camera module at top. carefully lift board adn undo clip at earpiece and remove that section. Board should now lift off. Battery is stuck to back of phone with double sided tape that covers top half of battery. I used a lollipop stick to pry battery away. You can use a hairdryer to heat tape up to make it easier. Job done

Where do you buy your battery? Has the battery good health and capacity? I have to buy new battery too, but I don´t know where. A lot of sellers are on Ebay, but everything are unofficial batteries.

Will try to take some photos. I already have it, bought it from our local shop . Phone is heavier and a bit thicker. I could take some separately photos of back cover and battery. Don't have any camera to take photos then battery is in the phone.
edit: yeah this is legit, my previous suspicions are cleared now
I believe as is genuine product, it will remain same way as standard cover, handtec.co.uk have them in due: http://www.handtec.co.uk/samsung-galaxy-s5-extended-battery-kit-eb-eg900bbegww.html, looks very promising as 3500 mAh was my ideal size battery for good 2 days use.

Nice, i paid £31
I don't know if it's my eyes messing with me, but it doesn't look that much thicker.
It's not very thick. But if you look at photo there is camera, you will see that camera isn't popped up anymore as it is in original back cover. With this battery cover camera is hidden in cover. Don't know if anyone understood what i said . Just compare camera area between original back cover with photo from my gallery.

I am glad some people find this battery useful as for me is good compromise between standard and brick battery zero lemon or similar, I just hope I could find rugged case this phone with this battery fit in, as I really like tech21 impact case - but no chance will fit in, but for outdoor I am using NewTrent rugged case and I finding one of best case available: http://www.amazon.com/New-Trent-Ultra-thin-Shockproof-Compatible/dp/B00KB9AWEE, and reviews from over 500 people saying same thing, only I hope I can somehow manage to accommodate S5 with small extended battery in to this case too
YES! Was waiting for the OEM Extended Battery with all the features retained. As someone in the States, get the hell on bringing this over Samsung!
FYI, just because it says Samsung doesn't mean its legit. Samsung doesn't have it listed, and if you call they have no idea about it.

I agree with you. However, it should still be close to the listed capacity since you can tell it is definitely larger than the OEM one. Now, that doesn't necessarily speak to its quality. But typically the fakes like to list capacities much higher than the actually produce.

I believe is genuine as is attached on Handtec website original OEM number from Samsung, customer service-support many times don't know about product manufacture offer, and could be is only for limited regions.

Screen and Battery replacement

Anyone ever buy battery or screen replacements from the Amazon? Every single one i found seems to be fake or second hand. I don't mind second hand as long as it is functioning, but no fake (especially the battery). If you have do this before, please help me out and provide links to the product page. Thx
Can you clarify by what you mean "Fake" and "Second Hand" ? I have purchase a number of replacement "LCD/digitizers" I learned from experience to always buy them ith the frame included. This makes replacement simple and safe to do and always with good results. As for the Battery I have had success there too.

Well by fake I mean the battery is not OEM but the seller package it like it was, by second hand, I mean the battery is used and is from an broken/unused phone (Don't really know if those existed).
In case you need to know the whole story, starting from last week or two, my phone shuts off at 20% and shows it has 30% after rebooting with charger on and the battery is swollen and is slightly pushing the back cover out.
There is a minor yellow tint on the bottom half of the screen, only noticeable when showing white.
And now the power button and the volume down button sometimes jams.
And my warranty ran out last month.
Tl:dr, everything is wrong and i need to replace the screen, the battery and the buttons. Really needs help. Could you also post the link of the place you buy from?
If you're only a month past warranty, I would at least contact Google support to see if they would do something to replace or repair your phone!

I am not in the US and they just refer me to LG, who said they will need me to pay an "inspection fee" for ~20USD. I am better off doing it myself. What I am planning to do, is to replace the screen and battery myself, and buy those buttons and have it replaced in a repairshop.

Hmm - I'm in the UK and my phone exhibited similar battery issues about three months out of warranty. I rang google and they basically charged me for a new Nexus 5, which was then refunded upon their receiving of my old phone and verifying that hardware was at fault

why not just buy zerolemon 7500mah ?
While i give you props for making it work, i don't think its useful on our device.. We have removeable batteries and there are extended batteries that work just fine and bypass all the fire/Explosion/damaging risks.
Congrats on actually pulling this off!
Although, are you planning on getting a different back cover though?, I honestly don't see that lasting very long....

I looked at the album the only thing I am unclear on, and have a question about is what you did or used for making the batteries stay in place. It looks like just using leather that you forced formed around the batteries, and case. Is that what you did? I'm looking at better ways of keeping my battery in place, while your idea looks good, im just not sure what you did exactly or used. Or if the is actually a possibility of using something more lightweight, and smaller.
I used to have a double battery on an old blackberry, it was just to noticeable when sitting in my pocket. I can see the same thing happening here. Regardless awesome work, cool mod.
It's nice that it's possible, but with such a big back I don't think it's all that useful. Furthermore, how long does charging take? Twice as much or more?
I love the idea. I just have one question. Does it correctly show the battery percentage now?
Just buy zerolemon extended battery.
Instead of making your own DIY S4 bomb on your pocket.

this looks pretty awesome, I need this for my phone - thanks for the post
Nais, mldc geras darbas tikrai
Haha love the idea. Congratz for pulling this off. Would have never thought of it. Initially I thought you somehow squeezed the two into the same one-size space - insane. I would personally go for an aftermarket build, but if you go creative enough I think you can still pull something interesting for a DIY proj. Some ideas:
1. put the battery in a thick plastic wrap (compact) and connect it to your phone via usb.
2. attach velcro on the battery and your phone and continue with step 1. you will have more or less what you have now, except it is modular - detachable.
n. hammer the two batteries into one so you have double the capacity - just dreaming... :fingers-crossed:
You pretty much end up into solutions that are already out there. Even so, I think you could end up with a bit more compact solution. Hackish in the same time.
Good luck
