[Kernel] kerNoleOC for T31x (OC and UV) v6 Updated 4/15/17 - Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 Android Development

Welcome to kerNoleOC, an overclocked kernel for T31x devices!!
This kernel should work for all Lineage14.1-based roms.
THIS WILL NOT WORK FOR STOCK TOUCHWIZ-BASED ROMS (may release one later)
kerNoleOC is based on the same kernel we use for Lineage with only the required changes to implement 1.8ghz OC and Undervolting.
There are two one version for each device:
kerNoleOC-1.8 - defaults to 1.8ghz on startup (approximate 15-18% boost in Antutu benchmark)
[*]kerNoleOC-1.6 - defaults to 1.6ghz on startup
NOTE: Use your favorite cpu control app to apply the OC/UV settings that work best for your device.
Not every device will perform well at 1.8ghz. If you have issues, choose a lower setting or return to the kernel provided with your rom.

INSTALLATION
Download the .img file of your choice and flash using TWRP or Flashify.
DISCLAIMER: If you are not familiar with the effects that running an overclocked kernel can have on your device, then you probably should not flash this kernel. I take no responsibility for anything you choose to do to your device.
Many of the features (prior to CM13) for this kernel are credited to @ketut.kumajaya and @tohenk.

I'm very new with custom kernels, so in this particular kernel what are the benefits in battery life and performance on the tablet? Sorry if it isn't a proper question. Thanks

Increased cpu speed can provide faster performance (battery life may be a little less).
In my Antutu benchmark tests, I saw an increased score of about 18%.
Overclocked kernels aren't typically used if you are looking for the best possible battery life, but this kernel also provides undervoltage control. By undervolting, you can gain battery life, but you have to be careful with the settings.

Hey Gr8nole (and others who may know); what is a recommended app for overclocking? I'd like to try the 1.8 version but have never o/c'd a tablet.

I usually use TricksterMod kernel settings or Kernel Adiutor (yes, that is how it is spelled).
I believe TricksterMod requires Busybox to be installed separately though.

You don't need a script to flash an .img file in TWRP. Just choose the flash image option from the zip select screen in TWRP.
ps. If you don't have that option, then you need to update TWRP.

T311 user here.
After trying T311.kerNoleOC-1.8.img (feb 9, 2016) max freq stays at 1.5GHz.
Going back to T311_kerNoleOC_Alpha-1.img, max freq is 1.8GHz.

Any other T311 users have this issue?

Can someone recommend stable O/C setting with whatever cpu app you use for T310? I've never o/c before.

Same here max freq is 1.5 GHz in both the images.
Was able to get 1.8 GHz in the alpha,
However Tab was able to charge very fast using these two images 1.6 and 1.8. ??. Haven't seen 900mA + in a long time.

Stable O/C and U/V settings are heavily device dependent. Your mileage may vary for each device.
Best way to check is to
1. keep a backup of your older kernel to restore
2. do not enable o/c, u/v on boot until you have tested the settings more than a couple of weeks.
3. Keep testing your o/c, u/v settings till you find a stable combination
4. Do not enable Governors that remain in peak cpu speed like performance
5. Monitor the CPU, device temperature don't let it over heat.

Works well with your CM13 port on my T310, which doesn't run reliably at 1.8 GHz, so I appreciate the kernel that defaults to 1.6.
Thank you

battery drain is heavy. after 13 hours is the battery at 15%. (fb, whatsapp, browser,...)

i really like the fact you asked for permission to post this here on xda..many times people dismiss that some dev disagree with the fact of distribute a kernel in all the place (for example like did ezeekeel on gnex etc..).now to the kernel, used it the day it came out and all i can say is that it's smooth and gave me very long battery time...reccomended to everyone also if it's in initial stage|!:good:

just flashed this kernel and will give it a try..
one thing i noticed though..
while in first boot after flashing, "No-frills CPU Control" reported a max 1.5 GHz and min 204 MHz (which should be max 1.3 GHz as i read from the thread by the kernel developer)..
and after some time (without reboot), it reported max 700 MHz and min 204 MHz..
is this a kernel problem and "No-frills CPU Control" problem?

[KERNEL][3.0.61] Nibbles v0.1.4 (CPU OC/UV, GPU OC, big.LITTLE) (2/8/13) [TEAM ROOK]

Nibbles Kernel v0.1.4
Base: Team Fah-Q's Lightning Zap (Original Version)
Linux Version: 3.0.61
Overview:
I originally made this exclusively for the Nibbles ROM just to see if I could do it. I've had countless messages asking to release this as a separately supported Kernel for the SR. So, here it is. This is the version currently included in the Nibbles ROM and I intend to keep them in sync. To those of you that bugged the crap out of me about this new thread ... here you go ... enjoy.
Compatibility:
AOSP / CM10 ROMs / JellyBean / Non-Touchwiz ROMs
Samsung Skyrocket, Hercules and T-989 (you will need rotation fix for 989 - don't ask me for it)
Features:
CPU Speeds up to 1.782GHz
Under/Over Voltage Support
GPU Over Clocked (based on which you choose to download)
ARM big.LITTLE Topology
1.5GHz Fast Boot
USB Fast Charge
Added Governors
Added I/O Schedulers
MSM mpdecision
Lots of other changes and tweaks.
CPU Governors:
intellidemand, pegasusq, gallimaurfy, interactivex, smartassv2, wheatley, interactive, conservative, userspace, ondemand (tweaked slightly), performance
I/O Schedulers:
noop, deadline, cfq, sio, vr, bfq, zen
Init.d Scripts:
smart zipalign at boot
governor (ondemand tweaks) - edit as necessary
systweaks
vacuum sqlite db optimization
Notes:
First boot may be slow as zipalign and sqlite tweaks run for the first time.
Installation will wipe cache and dalvik.

Revamped GPU clocks... I found that 3D @ 320 / 2D @ 228 seems to work pretty well and has a relatively good balance. The 2D GPU doesn't like being clocked beyond 228 at all.
Some governor work - likely will remove ondemand and conservative since they're effectively pointless with the other governors present.
And anything else I feel like screwing with ...
First!!!!!! Oh yes I'm cool. Pffft bwahahahaha looks good enough to flash. Will report later
Just flashed the moderate gpu oc version on Slim Bean. Very fast and smooth with smartassv2/sio and 1.62ghz oc. Thanks for all you do, sir.

best kernel so far . the only reason i didn't switch to tw ROM. interactiveX and smart V2 are the best two
Been on this kernel for a while, just finally made the decision to uv - 50mv on every clock speed, no stability problems so far, gotta say I'm really liking how my phone feels running this kernel though

Nice work. The wipes in the updater script is a great.
Since this is based off of LZ did you keep the voltages that Thomas was using(-50) or did you return them to stock? Just wanna know what I'm really UVing by.

That's the thing. I can't find a stock voltage table. I looked in Faux old kernel thread and he has a voltage table but I don't know whether it's for the base of his kernel or stock values. Of course system tuner won't let you check until you have a kernel flashed that allows user defined voltage. So if the DEV already dropped the stock values that's what you'll see. Anyone know the stock voltages? Or an app that let's you check stock voltage?

I remember the first few off the top of my head so I know it was stock.
You can use a terminal emulator to check them.

Great work! Smooth and quick! I am beginning to think that the problem I have with incorporating this kernel into my PACman ROM has to do with this building smoothly with CM ROMs. I realize that PAC has CM in it, but for some reason, the build does not compile Nibbles or LZ in the process, no matter what I do. Somewhere in the process, it reverts back to CM stock. I've altered dependancies and everything else, and always the same result. But, I digress. You are putting out top-notch work and everyone appreciates it! Be cool

I wish we could use a custom kernel on the un-official Miui Android rom port for the Skyrocket.
having amazing results with my -50 uv everywhere so far, completely stable, ondemand/sio/1.51or1.72Ghz everything is smooth as can be thanks, gonna start experimenting with a bit more uv and other governors and comparing performance/battery life

1.83ghz overclock stable voltage
Love this kernel but just cant stay stable on 1.83ghz, I heard that this clock likes a specific voltage on this forum, anyone know what voltage it works best at? I tried stepping it down a little and still kept freezing

There are 2 other 4.2.2 kernels. You decided to choose a 4.2.2 kernel that is in beta, and released 3 months ago. Mind trying Marla or Moretz?

There are much newer builds of this kernel in the hercules forum. You could flash those, just you might have rotation issues if you don't keep the skyrocket rotation files (PM me for more info).
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
Ill try the hercules ones, mortez I don't think can go to 1.83ghz, that is really pushing it for the phone didn't expect it to be doable when it did work though I did see a performance gain from 1.78ghz and not a lot of heat being generated either, had it stable overvolted 1375mv for a little to then it died on me in a 3d game -_-

well then don't lower voltage
stock 4.4 seems to be more sensitive to voltage changes than 4.2, its the new kernel changes (not mine, LG's)
I dropped my voltage by -25 and I am not having any problems.

Just out of curiosity, why do your Runqueue Thresholds for Bricked msm_mpdecision differ so greatly from what showp1394 implemented on the Nexus 5? With an almost identical SoC, wouldn't we want to stay closer to those values?

The chips aren't almost identical, they ARE identical
Secondly our thresholds are exactly the same, I just double checked both sources. Not sure where you see otherwise.

Yeah, I found that the Bluetooth app had been holding wakelocks even when off. Force closed the app so hopefully that sorts my idle usage. I got the other numbers from his XDA threads, but those values may very well have been carry over from the Nexus 4 configuration.
FYI, here is what I am referring to:
Hammerhead - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47399641&postcount=2
Mako - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35667484&postcount=2
Weird, right? I wonder why he threw those particular numbers out there for Hammerhead when his source is different.
