Replacing the default launcher - Mate 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am using Apex launcher but the middle circle always routes me to the default launcher. How do I change that ?
Apex has the option to be set as default launcher but this need some tweaking to happen.

Splanner widget and Nova launcher

I can find s planner widget at Nova launcher. Is it possible to fix that? Please developers create magic
Yes that is pitty. But I got android pro widgets and that works fine too.

It's not possible to "fix" this, because the Sammy-Widgets needs TouchWiz to work.

And why exactly do you think he is not using a stock-Android(based) ROM? The launcher has nothing to do with the framework on the phone...
And he is right: Every other Touchwiz-App and / or widget works fine, except for the S-Planner.
Greetz,
Mad
It's strange as the S-Planner only works on touchwiz launcher. Im beginning to think that it's a samsung thing which is stupid as all other widgets works fine

I had the same issue using apex launcher and the new update actually fixed the issue. Weird cause the update didn't mention issues with s planner. It could also be the new update sprint pushed out. Either way it's working for me now haven't tested nova yet.
I'm on DXLP9 stock and i am still missing s-planner widget using the latest apex launcher. ..

anyone found any solution?
i really like the original s-planner widgets. it's a pity not to use them now...
I am also interested in finding a fix for this.
I heard that if you install nova as a system app you can access these widgets. Does anyone have a link to the .apk
I have same issue using go launcher ex. Can use other S widgets such as email and spen, just not splanner. Don't really like go calendar so would be nice to be able to use splanner instead.
Using stock ICS 4.0.3 rom.

Installed apk in system/app. Can confirm still not recognising s planner widget or s3 weather widget
isn't there a way to extract these widgets and add them to another launcher?
(question to the developers)

Me too...
Can a developer help with this? love the S-planner widget.
Yep I can't access the S Planner widget either which is a pain. Anyone have a work around for Apex?
Nothing so far?
I just use Jorte. Its not as polished as SPlanner but it gets the job done.
Edit- Using Business Calendar now. It was on sale and it has a good widget.

[Guide]LG launcher hidden settings

There is a pretty simple way to go in these launcher settings.
1. Download and install Launcher Pro from Google Play (you don't need to set it as default launcher or anything)
2. Add Activities widget to your LG Launcher home screen. Search for Home - com.lge.launcher2.hiddenmenu.LGHomeHiddenMenuActiv ity
3. Voilà now you have access to hidden settings from your Home screen. If you change your settings they will keep even after restarting your phone.

Basically it changes bools.xml found on LGHome.apk

Those just look like a non polished interface for your custom launcher. My guess is that they aren't LG launcher specific, they are Launcher PRO specific...
In which case you're telling us that a custom launcher has more features than the integrated one, which isn't really news to anyone on XDA mate.

look at the name of the shortcut.. it's LG launcher 2 hidden menu.. so yeah its a stock launcher hidden menu. you can use anycut or something else to launch different shortcuts that are otherwise hidden, but he's using a different launcher to launch the hidden shortcut.

Check that it is right one that you try to launch. There are 2 pretty similar names. Another one doesn't work.

I'm sure. I tried all of them.
Is there anything in the hidden menu worth doing this for?

I'm getting to the end of step two then when I try to get into the settings I get this force close when I tap that home icon that you see at the top of my homescreen (That's what the activities widget turned into). I'm on a rooted stock D801 on T-mobile

I'm only interested in changing a few settings on the LG launcher, does anybody know of a way to do basic stuff like change the alignment from 5x5 to something else?
*EDIT* found it! got it to work. you go into Home > the second hiddenmenu thing, not the first one you see.
As you can see at the bottom, no names on my dock icons. Feature_hotseat_notext did that

I'm using this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.blazasoft.vpn
With Nova launcher, I can have the shortcut on my desktop without it, but it's buried too deep in settings I always forget how to get there.

Is there any way to use multi-window on Nova?

Does multi window work only on native launcher?
I don't want to root my phone

No, it doesn't have native support for Nova Launcher, unfortunately.
I remember when I still had my Mate7 there was a thread I came across in those forums where they found a way to add apps, but it requires root, and sadly it still didn't work for Nova, but worked on pretty much anything else.
The workaround I used on my MT7 was to open any app first and then open the dual window launcher to choose the second app. But no luck direct from Nova

Android O Public Beta - Google Play forces apps on home page?

I decided to try the beta on my personal Pixel and it's been good for the most part. I'd say very stable for daily use.
However I've noticed I can no longer stop apps from making a shortcut on my home page. So if I install 20 apps I'm forced to grab them and remove them.
Anyway to stop this or is this the way Google is going with O?

Why, the way I do it works fine, first thing I open after install (playstore) to stop automatic updates, then install my launcher, and delete the Google launcher, it's all good man
