There's an app available in the Gear store called "Philips Hue Remote" for $5 U.S. (so you probably need a Samsung phone to access it). Have not tried it; the developer listed is Philipe Wechsler.

Is there any posibility to access the full store with my Oneplus 2?

Hi there,
I am the developer of the one and only app currently available in the store and you do not need a Samsung phone as it is an standalone app! Right now the app has everything you'd expect from it, but there will be some significant updates over the coming weeks and months. If you miss something or if you have ideas for an improvement please feel free to contact me at [email protected]. Thx!

I installed the Gear apps not from the playstore because they were incompatible. I only installed the apk's.
In my Gear-Store i can only see free apps.

Hi Philippe. As the developer of a great looking app I suggest you petition Samsung to provide non-Samsung phones with access to paid gear apps.
Potential revenue for you and other devs lost because they've placed these restrictions.
Cheers.

Hi everyone,
I'll do that for sure, as it is not really an acceptable situation for users as well as for developers. Do you have any sources describing the issue or how did you find out?
Thx

How are groups created? it shows that I have 2 groups with what appears to be a generated name of letters and numbers the the groups have one light each. How do I go about removing those groups and create new ones?

Right now you cannot create groups or scenes from the app, but if you create them with the philips hue app on the smartphone, you'll able to see them on your gear as well. In a future version (not too far away!) you'll able to create groups and scenes from the gear as well. Removing/hiding apps might get supported as well later, but first there will be an big update where the homesceen can be customized directly, i.e you will be able to select and sort lights/groups/scenes and other functions you see on the homescreen.

Hi
installation failed. Says connection to Gear is needed. But the gear (s2 classic) ist connected as
any other app is working. Even disconnect and reconnect doesn't work. Any idea ?

Thanks, You're right, I hope they fix it soon. The app ecosystem is presently so fragmented and unsupported that it undermines the worth of an otherwise amazing device.
It's an often reported issue on XDA. Here's a recent thread describing the issue but the problem is also mentioned elsewhere:

Hi Philippe, I just downloaded this app. Works well and looks outstanding! I thought I was going to have to wait for Samsung to release their SmartThings app before I'd be able to control my lights with my S2; So glad that's not the case.
For reference, I have 14 hue bulbs and several groups, including light strips, blooms, and a pile of A19s. You should post this app on https://www.reddit.com/r/Hue/, I'm sure others would be interested as well.

Paid apps availability
Hi guys,
I conntacted Samsung about the issue with the paid apps and non Samsung smartphones. The answer is as expected a bit odd:
"Regarding your inquiry, we would regrettably inform you that only free application could be downloaded on a non-Samsung device, and paid applications will be available in the future." ..and some usual blabla.
However I just submited the first update for my app and in the section where the applicable devices can be selected to new Items have appeared:
- "Non Samsung Phone (Android)"
- "Non Samsung Phone (iOS)"
So I have no idea when exactly paid gear apps will be available to all users, but I guess it cannot be too long. In fact I hope that this will even be the case when the update gets available, we'll see

That was my first thought too, but then I'd had to purchase a SmartThings Hub which is not even available in my country so I decided to do it by mself I sure will post it there as soon as I've setup an appropriate page.
Nice setup! Please tell me if you need some additional features as I can imagine you'll need some extra functionality to handle so many lights as you have.

Hi,
I'm waiting for my Gear S2 classic to arrive and I'm wondering if this app or if there is another app for LiFX smart bulbs? I could use TaskS2 app but like the idea of using the bezel to control brightness.

My app does currently not support LiFX and as far as I know there is no other app for this. I've just looked at the LiFX api and I could actually add support for LiFX (or maybe another app). For now I do have other plans, but when the demand for LiFX gets big enough I'll consider adding support for them as well...

Fair enough I doubt the demand would get high enough it's not as popular as philips hue sadly. How difficult would it be for me to try and code it as I doubt anyone would produce an app for lifx sadly.

If you are familiar with tasker, then the gear s2 has a tasker plug in app that works and you may be able to use phillips hue through that

Request - Tasker Interface

Hi All,
Would be great if someone could develop a means of launching Tasker tasks from the Gear S2.
Ideally (my opinion) this would create a number of gear apps on the watch that could be assigned to launch chosen tasks (apps: task 1, task 2, task 3...).
This would allow easy launching of tasks (task apps) assigned to the gear's app shortcut widget.
To illustrate I've attached 2 images. The first shows the Gear S2's app shortcut widget.
The second shows how the shortcuts could be correlated to launch tasks if the tasks were assigned as apps (image from WearTasker a Tasker launcher for Android Wear - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cuberob.weartasker&hl=en).
Will value your thoughts.. Is this feasible? Does a Tasker launcher face the same difficulties as faced when porting Tasker to the older Tizen smartwatches or is there an easier way to only launch tasks on a connected phone?
Cheers

Yeah. A dirty method (requires some setup on the Tasker side) but this might be easier to develop: Autoremote is a tasker plugin that lets you react to commands sent via various communication methods including URL calls.
http://joaoapps.com/autoremote/direct/
It might be possible to create a number of S2 apps that each call a specific Autoremote URL (in the background without displaying anything on the watch, or quickly closing the app once the url has been called - for a cleaner UI/no UI other than launching the tasks themselves). These URLs would be set up to trigger Tasker tasks, so opening an app would trigger a Task.
Additionally there would have to be a method of assigning a URL to each S2 app.
This is beyond my ability, but maybe someone would be up to it?
WearTasker is a Tasker app for Android Wear that also produces 3 apps in the app drawer that allow you to launch Tasks directly from there. Maybe we should try to reach out and see if they can do the same for the S2.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cuberob.weartasker
No Tasker app for the Tizen Gear 1 & 2 & S since few years, so for the S2......
I would really be interested in this also. Would be great to be able to control my home automation via my Gear S2!

Well, it will be paid, but I do care about non-Samsung community. One walkaround I can think of is release the gear app free so everyone can download it, but I will charge the android app. I don't know if anyone has done this before :-/
Have you guys used any apps like that? Can the android app and the gear works together?
Another issue that may come up is that many users may think this is a scam because the app is actually not "free" and rate it bad. I really don't want to mess up this release.
I don't know what you plan on charging but I know writing apps takes time so I will gladly pay instead investing my own time if not necessary.
Hopefully support and updates will be good

I'm actually looking for a simple watch face. Simple as in no fancy design. Digital clock, watch power, weather, date, next appointment. Maybe phone power as well. Similar to the Apple Watch with the selected complications/widgets.

It can be done. I've only seen one developer do it though. One of his apps is called Calendar Analog Watch by Alex Rokhlov. Think he's out of Russia. He puts a free watchface with limited functionality on the Gear apps store. The app requires an Android companion app off the Plays store to work. To unlock all the premium features you do it through a purchase on the Android companion app. It's basically the same system anyone uses to make money off of app development for Pebble smartwatches.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=shu.gear.calwatchanalog&hl=en
I think what you want to do from a marketing perspective is do a free version that is limited. Maybe can only fire off one task through tasker. And then for a couple bucks you can unlock the full featured version of the app that will let you have X amount of tasks available. Maybe check out what other app makers did on Pebble and with Tasker, like this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kodek.pebbletasker&hl=en

A rant about the Gear Apps Store

Samsung really needs to do something about the store and put some requirements around the way people upload their apps.
Watch faces do not belong in "Utilities" or "Social Networking" or "Lifestyle" unless they have meaningful real functionality that applies. All this cross-posting of watch faces everywhere just pollutes the store.
No trial or demo mode seems to exist and there is no refund policy (like the 2 hour one on the Play Store). You buy a watch face that looks good on the listing but looks like crap on your wrist and you're stuck with it. You want to compare file transfer apps? Good luck with that.
Watch face listings should be required to post a picture of the ambient mode. Some decent looking watch faces have awful ambient modes but there's no way to tell until you've bought it.
Updates and installations should be able to be queued. Having to wait for one app to finish updating and installing before you can start the next one is kind of annoying.
I find the Gear Apps store to be the worst out there. Compared to the Play Store, the Amazon Underground, the Windows Store, and my god ... even iTunes (or whatever Apple calls their store these days) ... it's atrocious.
I pretty much agree, especially on points #1 & #2.
Fred
Agree!!
Yes yes yes. Also the Samsung app store doesn't show you which watch faces you've purchased.
Samsung requires(pointlessly) two different categories when uploading an app to the store. This is why watch faces show up in other categories. For some asinine reason there's no way of entering a coupon in the store either, yet you can request them on the seller website. Stupid considering a giveaway is great promotion for paid apps/watch faces.

Seriously? Two categories. Clearly I can't throw the devs under the bus on that one. Just more asinine than I originally thought.
So, Samsung should add a category of: "Useless second category, don't look for anything here or do look for everything here". Craziness.
Fred
That is wrong. I uploaded a watch face just today. You can specify 2 categories but it is not required. I used only one categorie and it worked.

It's likely of these unusual category anomalies is by letting the seller 'Tag' their software app for a more visual effect than for accuracy in when looking for apps?...
The iPhone app store as well as the Google Android app store had the same problems in the beginnings...
Once there was a high population of visitors.. To then taken more seriously to the content of applications being appropriately tagged!
and why the Samsung Gear store hasn't been taken seriously as a major player against the obvious competition of Google & Apple!...
Tizen has been around now for a time in Teething problems no longer can be used as an excuse?....
Google & Apple started to clean their act up once a multitude of complaints were posted... problem is??...
There is no easy way to do that in the Samsung app blogosphere?... pity.

Starting from Jan 29, new watch faces can only be in Watch faces category. I'm not sure if existing ones in wrong categories will be removed

The whole Samsung app store needs a overhaul. Just has a job half done kinda feel about it, put apps in a simple list and let's be done with the UI kinda deal. Not to mention like mentioned, bad app categorization. It bugs me that Samsung come out with pretty good hardware like the S2 yet fail to make the software just as good. The S2 has massive potential yet they don't seem to get apps out there, would be nice if they developed more apps for the S2 let alone other devs but nope they'll probably just give up on it like the did with previous smart watches and while I haven't looked into it, I bet iphone compatibility is lacking features like the ability to send sms messages or can't install paid apps for example instead of making it 100% compatible with all the features available.

Geocaching with Gear S3

Hey,
is any developer out there who's making a geocaching companion App for Gear S3?
There is an App for Android Wear (c:geo wear) but nothing for Gear S3.
I just found an old version for Samsung Gear on GitHub, but it's developer doesn't work on it anymore.
github.com/ ehcloninger/cgeo-gear
I just got the following information from it's former developer:
I started on a project for the Gear S in early 2015. It was a prototype app to test the APIs. I was contracting to Samsung at the time. The code is all in open source on GitHub. I would say the project was 75% complete, with a very big "however".
github.com/ ehcloninger/cgeo-gear
The project had 2 parts. On the Android side, there was a plugin for c:geo that listened for messages sent from c:geo, packaged the data to send to the Samsung Sync API. I had to build my own version of c:geo to generate the message. If you don't have the plugin for Android Wear, you could change the Intent to accept the same message as Android Wear. The c:geo team were not willing to add another menu item for Samsung watches.
On the Tizen side, the Javascript code accepts the Sync API call and gets the GC data on the watch. It displays the information according to the design guide of 2014/2015 for the square watch. The design style was changing with the round watch and I didn't update it to match. I was about to put the parts together to allow the wearer to navigate with the watch, but I was told in a meeting the next watch wasn't going to allow Location APIs for all developers, so I stopped working on the project.
If you are a developer, I would love someone to finish the project. Feel free to fork my repo and make it your own.

Hey there,
I know about the lack of compass.. But wouldn't it be possible to use the GPS for showing the direction? Like standing on position A and showing just where to go to reach Position B?
When this isn't possible it could be helpful to send an actual Cache to S3 and Show it on a map and your actual position aswell.
Perhaps you have a look on c:geo Android App, gathering ideas!
Thanks for your interest!

Hey, are there some News? Dumdidum?
Nothing?
I'm not a developer either, bit an company app for c:geo would be great!
This thread has more than 2.000 views, but no one will develop an App?
Or tried someone already and it isn't possible?
Of course it's possible.
I just recently got a S3. I'll take a look at it. I already have the c:geo Gear app running.
I see if I can get it to work completly an then develop it further. I just have to get familiar with the Tizen development tools and APIs.
Hey SgtSeppel! That's sounds great! Hope you Could Do it! Hope to get updated here
SgtSeppel, great news!

Solution would be to plot your vector and project your direction - that is how it used to work on the early GPSs (I still have a Garmin geko 201 without compass and it works out your direction by sampling and vectoring between the last two points to give you a heading - of course if you walk backwards or hold the GPS upside-down that confuses things when looking at the screen!)
I've used Here Wego to navigate next to cache. Works well from C:Geo just choose navigate to and select Here Wego from phone and it starts Here Wego navigation also in the watch.

Isn't Here WeGo a street/road navigator?
For geocaching (and other navigate activities) I need to enter a position (poi or even a route) and like my watch to show in what direction the next poi is.

The app Quick GPS position pro, do already have implemented bearing, it shows the direction you are moving to. Ofcourse it is not usefull when you don't move. Just walk three meters and it is accurate again.

How to install paid Galaxy Apps with iOS (and an Android Phone)

Hello,
I thought this could be of interest for iPhone folks. I use an iPhone as my main phone and I'm somewhat frustrated that I can't install paid Apps via the iOS gear app. That's why I started tinkering around a bit and found a "cumbersome" way around the limitation. Here's what I did:
Reset your watch so that you can pair it again
Pair it with your android device, install all the apps you need from Samsung
Go to the Galaxy App Store and download the paid apps you want
Reset your watch again
Pair your watch with the iOS Gear app
Go to the iOS Galaxy App Store in your Gear App
Go to "My Applications" or however it's called in english
Re-Download your purchased apps
Although the process is cumbersome and needs to be repeated once you need an additional paid app it is a solution if you desperately need a particular paid app until Samsung can provide something user friendlier.
It definitely works for watch faces and standalone apps.
Enjoy!
Hey this is great, gonna try it when I get home. Thanks
Did you test if the same works for "Wish list"?

No I didn't. Not sure if the purchase process is supported in iOS. But let us know if you find time to test it.
Tried this twice does not show paid for apps on my iPhone 6 plus and galaxy classic in uk only free apps ?

If you can't purchase apps on your android phone you probably have a different issue as this is supposed to work? Definitely worked for me with a nexus 5X.
works on android but when I switch to iPhone 6 plus still only shows free apps
If you go to Galaxy Apps, press the Hamburger Menu in the upper right corner and select "My Applications" --> "All" - you do not see your purchased applications?
Hello has anyone tried this in the U.K.? I will try later (hopefully) and post results...
I live in the uk and as I said before apps that are free show as purchased, but paid for apps are not there
Interesting. Would not have expected differences by country. Here are some screens as a proof that it works in general.
"Jeweler Racing Club 24h" is a paid watch face
"Gear Navigator Standalone" is a paid App

Hi. Thanks for the workaround. I will try this once i get a Samsung device.
Question: Anytime the G3 is reset, don't all the APPs get removed on the G3 -and then you have to reinstall ALL apps and Walachia faces when you reset back to the iPhone?
I don't think you can prevent the G3 from being wiped after doing a reset?

Thanks for the advice but when I go back to the app store on my iPhone it does not show paid for apps that I purchased only free apps ?
My experience is even different... I'm in the US and most apps I downloaded via an Android phone, including a paid watch-face, show in the IOS Gear app but the most important two apps (the reason I even bought the Gear S3 - both Golf GPS apps) do not show. Hit and miss at this point!
Yes it works !!!
Now I can install all paid faces in IPhone.

"Gear S3 pairs with smartphones running Android 4.4 and higher with over 1.5GB RAM, iOS 9.0 and later, and smartphones iPhone 5 and newer. (For iPhone 6S and 6S+ running iOS 10 and later, connection to Gear may be unstable.)" from http://www.samsung.com/global/galaxy/gear-s3/device-compatibility/ there is also a list of some compatible devices there.
Well I use Gear S3 with iPhone6. I also have two Android devices (Nvidia Shield tablet and a old LG phone, rooted). I did a factory reset of my Gear S3, and tried pairing it to the LG first, then Nvidia Shield with no luck. The Device does not want to pair, so I cannot test this. I guess you must have a Samsung phone?
Just one tip for some of you, read the first post carefully. When you pair your Android phone to the GearS3, you actually need to BUY an app or watchface! This way the purchases will connect with your samsung-account and you can access the bought items when you pair the watch it back to iPhone.
Thanks for the reply. Actually i have note 2 wich custom ROM which is on samsung Android 4.4. Hence want to clear it .so want to confirm if it will work or not with my phone.

My first IWC-like military watchface with adaptive luminophore

Hello there,
I'd like to present my first military watchface (native app) with a realistic luminophore light and a ticking sound.
Initially I created it for myself, because I didn't find anything that would satifsy me in the Galaxy Apps store. So now I'd like to share it with people.
I'm a big fan of devices with a luminophore, so I wanted to recreate this thing for my Gear S3 because this device (as so the rest Gear devices) has an integrated ambient light sensor, so adjusting the watchface image based on the light sensor was definitely an option.
I also decided to add a watch ticking sound (you can disable it on the Settings screen) to make it feel like a real watch.
Right now you can launch three apps from the watchface: built-in calendar, timer (Samsung Timer App, make sure it's installed), and a battery percentage screen.
This is a first version of the watchface. Please check it and share your opinion, I would appreciate that, because my goal is to collect some feedback.
The app will work on Gear S2 (lo-color AOD mode supported), Gear S3, Galaxy Watch, and on everything with 360x360px resolution.
The watchface is a paid app, but I'd like to share free coupons for people who will post here until the end of the week.
Samsung has a really weird coupons system, so I have to send coupons individually (if I understand that corrrectly).
So everyone who wants a free install please reach me out here or using a PM and share your country (yes, for some reason coupons work only for specific countries, "thanks" to Samsung) and I will PM you back with a coupon code.
Also, please rate the application if possible.
Thanks!
Sorry, I can't place download URL directly here, due to XDA limitations for new users, so I'll provide a QR code.

Jacob,
I very much like this watch face, its clean yet functional, and the transition from bright ambient to dark ambient is very cool. I'm not sure I'm going to be thrilled with the optional tick, but thank you for making it optional!

This looks amazing, and its really cool of you to give it out for free to users. What are these type of watch faces called exactly? (I want to find more like these) Is it possible to make such watchface using watchmaker?
Shamsheer,
India
Though CSC of the watch is set to XAR (USA) so not sure what store I use...

Hey Shamsheer! Thanks for your reply!
XDA has a limitation for new users, so I can't post the external links for the app.
The model name for this watch face is MILSIM A-1.
I created this watch face based on IWC and Fortis designs (and some soviet military watches like ACHS-1).
Try to google IWC Top Gun, Fortis B-42 Marinemaster and ACHS-1 (soviet aircraft watch)
My watchface is not a full copy, but an exclusive design based on top of these three watches.
I'm not sure about Watchmaker, but you probably won't be able to create this transition effect in GWD and Watchmaker because they don't provide such capabilities. That was the reason why I made it as a Tizen Native app.
Please rate the app if you like it! I'd like to collect as much feedback as possible to understand what I can improve
Thanks!

Excellent work on this one. It looks great! And I commend you on working in Tizen, it looks a little overwhelming to me
It looks really good. It is nice to see people developing in tizen, GWD is quite limited in complications, access to sensors, etc. Good work.

Great looking watch face! I'm in Canada.
I love the luminescent effect. I'd love a code for this. I'm from Canada. Thanks.
look nice...like the AOD design too.....I'd love a code for this. I'm from Singapore. Thanks.
Wow, looks so cool, would like to wear it also
Germany
I bought this clockface yesterday and today you give away coupons for free
This is really awesome, I just got my Samsung Gear watch for my birthday for myself yesterday. I would love to try this out, I am in the U.S.
Love the watchface! The lumninescence reminds me of Panarai. I'd love a coupon, if you please. I'm in the UK.
Hello.
1 tip for improvement:
When I touch the screen and drag to the right side (to see the pending notifications) the battery status screen is opened. The program should be able to distinguish a touch from a drag event.
Being living with it for a week and it is great. The luminescence effect is super smooth and, believe it or not, doesn't affect battery life too much.
The ticking sound is something interesting ... to try for half an hour.... It is dependent on the media volume, so it is usually too loud. Oh, and it is on while charging.
Other than that, perfect. It will be my default watchface for a while.
