The HTC One A9 is a huge gamble that might just pay off - HTC One A9

If you've ever been to an electronics market in certain parts of Asia, you'll be familiar with iPhone knockoffs running Android. Within weeks of a new Apple device, you can get a gray market iPhone lookalike running Android Jelly Bean or something, for a third of the cost of the real thing. But we never thought we'd see a 'real' manufacturer take this approach. Until now
If I were living under a rock, and came across the One A9 on holiday, I would absolutely believe it was a gray market ripoff. I can just imagine coming home to tell my friends, “Hey, check out the fake HTC iPhone I bought,” only to be informed HTC itself actually put it out.
We can lay some blame for this odd decision on the exodus of HTC designers – Scott Croyle in 2014, and Jonah Becker in 2015 – and presume the design department at HTC is full of empty desks following their departure. Or we could put it down to a last-ditch effort to get someone, anyone, to buy an HTC device.
But what if this is actually the best decision HTC has made in a long time?

Exactly! The fact that it comes from HTC! HTC POSSIBLY THE MOST INNOVATIVE COMPANY EVER! Or should I say was. I think HTC has absolutely NO idea what they are actually doing at the moment. Every time they make decisions that are even worse than before. Like the don't even care about user feedback! They are becoming the 2nd Nintendo I could say. I really hope Sony won't end like this too because they actually know what they are doing!

despite the positive reviews ive seen im skeptical about buying. i don't do preorders and ive been burned too many times by false reviews. the device does look pretty nice though.

I've mentioned this in another thread before if you're interested in the device and don't pre-order it will cost you an extra $100 on November 7th. which is the end of the promotional pricing. HTC offers a 30 day no questions asked money back guarantee why not take them up on their offer? You can always send it back if it doesn't suit you!

It would have to start from the day of delivery, I have another pre-order that has already been pending for 30 days, if the trial started at the time of purchase my trial period for that order would expire before I ever received the product. Makes 'Sense' to me, sorry bad pun..... Good Luck!!!

Thanks for that - i've been waiting for play.com to have a 10% discount which would have only bought the price down to £432(approx).
This is a great price - i only hope they don't say its a mistake as it looks like one (its cheaper than the Diamond which is £363.39).
It Should arrive on Thursday - just ordered it now.

I've decided to give a WM phone a go again and ordered myself.
To start with I'll just use it with a data sim, to see what its like, as you can't knock a blackberry for staying in touch with IM etc, but Im just so bored of the crap browser experience and lack of software like Live Mesh, which I use one hell of a lot to keep things synced.
I'll use both for a few weeks and see how it goes.
Looks like they have discovered it - gone back up to £466.89 without postage.
Good thing i bought mine
LOL! I don't feel so sick now ; )
spark9990, when your new pro arrives, please could you take a look at what version ROM it ships with now? (start/settings, system tab, device information - though I'm sure you'll know that already). Congratulations on getting such a great price!!!

Mine as well, mine was at the delivery depot.
Not even a offer of a good will gesture, I'm going to check out if they can do that, especially I can prove it was out for delivery.

I don't have proof of that - but i do have a receipt, and they did take money out of my account.
Then without my permission carried out a refund transaction. I trying to find out how to contact trading standards but in the mean time i am going to try to reason with sellers.
In a retail store, if a product is tagged as a cheaper price by mistake, then the retailer has to give it at that price.
If Handtec had debited your back account/credit card account, then they had entered into a contract with you to supply that item at that price. Speak to both Trading Standards and Handtec about it and make sure you can demonstrate that they had taken your dosh. All you did is select a product on Handtec's website in good faith and, for their part, it would appear that they too entered into that contract to suppply it, so I suggest they honour it!
EDIT: http://www.tradingstandards.gov.uk, and they should have an entry in your local phone book. Kent is 0845 7585497 (just in case - good luck!)

Thats not true. Most big stores (such as Tesco) will sell you at the quoted price for the good will. By Law they infact have something like 24 hours to correct the price once notified by a customer, during which time they can sell at a different price than is quoted.
That is really bad!
I thought maybe it had something to do with stock levels, but if it got to the depot, you think they would have realised!
Hope you get a response from them or Trading Standards

XDA Flint for sale

Hi guys. I'm selling my Flint...here it is:
link
Yeah, it's a bit cheeky, but when it's gone, it's gone...so hurry
If I saw this 3 weeks ago I would have gone for it surely
knowing HTC Athena 2 due out soon, I now prefers to wait till Athena 2 released.
best of luck! I did best offer you on that auction, but was declined.
Yeah too right it was declined. People offering me silly money. Think I'm stupid??? If people don't want to pay what these things are worth, they should either forget it and get a device that suits their budget, or wait a couple of years until it drops to the price you want to pay (judging by the offers, it'll be about 10 years!! ), instead of wasting my time and looking a little bit foolish...
Anyway it's still for sale if anybody's interested. Link updated and slightly reduced price.
Things to take into account:
Is it Simlocked to O2? I bought mine new and sim-free last year for £624 so if locked might be considered expensive for a second-hand item when you consider if anything goes wrong with it, they'd have to go through you go get it repaired.
Can you still actually leave buyers negative feedback? I thought that had been stopped by ebay.

O2 do not, and never have SIM locked their Windows Mobile devices. The Flint is pretty much the standard HTC offering, though the current ROM does not have the HTC Home front end.
O2 also tend to do warranty repairs based on the IMEI, so do not necessarily need the original owner to mediate things, as long as you are using an O2 SIM.
It seems amazing that prices seem to vary from around £320 to well over £500 on Ebay.
Thanks for clearing that up, if I were in the market it'd justify the cost for me.
Maybe if matmaneyre could point these things out in the item description it'd clear things up to the public in general and bring about a quicker sale
I still don't think it's possible to leave negative feedback to a buyer though, especially one with whom no transaction has actually occurred.
Yes- you're right. Ebay changed the rules at the end of last year, for better or worse, though as you say, it was never possible to leave FB for someone who didn't actually buy.
With Ebay, the content of the advert say's an awful lot about the product and the seller
I thought about buying that from you off of eBay.
Something doesn’t quite feel right about that auction.
You say it’s an upgrade, yet it’s not available as an upgrade!? Also you say it’s too complicated for you but it’s no more complicated than any other Windows mobile device.
Maybe I’m paranoid but...
To be honest, by 'too complicated for me' I really meant not quite right for me, as it has too many features I am not going to use, and I think I would be better off cashing in and getting something more suitable to my needs. Hope that clears it up a bit. I'd have put that in the description, but it seems to take so long to create a good listing just the way you want it, minor things that the everyday person browsing for such a device just get overlooked when you preview your listing before submitting it. Once you get to a stage where you think it sounds and looks good enough, you kinda just go with it.
As you say, it's no more complicated than any other WM device. It is available as an upgrade through O2, but strictly only to business customers. They are extremely hard to get hold of otherwise. I hounded them literally everyday for a month because I returned my faulty Serra (see my signature) and they couldn't offer me an equal or better replacement. All their Serras were out of stock - really messed me about for 4 weeks. In the end they backed down as there was nothing else they could offer me.
They don't know their ear from their elbow.
And I didn't realise you couldn't leave negative feedback to a buyer as luckily I've never been in a situation where I'd want to, although that's really only on there to make people think seriously before submitting an offer. I don't want to be relisting all the time for the sake of someone not reading the buyer restrictions or trying to scam me.
Hope that explains a few things...if you're still wary,. check my feedback. I've sold all my WM devices of the last 5 years on ebay (see sig again!) And see my postcount and view my posts too. I am a real, genuine human!!

HTC HD2 on O2.........

Hi all,
Release date for the HD2 on O2 was yesterday, I have been trying my utmost to get hold of one of these. Does anyone know any insider information?
I seem to be getting different info from different O2 reps.
I WANT ONE NOW!
Nobody knows - but the best guess at the moment is next week at the earliest. O2 just can't seem to answer a straight question different representatives giving different answers. It could come out this afternoon but nobody knows
looks like its been delayed until november now

Gonna phone them again. They are all saying its due this week but can't tell me when. They say only once it shows on the system can they price it etc.
Next rep has said they are conducting tests on it and it will be released on the 26th November. I am so bloody impatient!

Getting around all the hype, I don't think the Palm Pre has been a fantastic seller for them and I think if the HD2 drops now it will leave them with a lot of unsold Pre's.... so they are holding it back for the that reason (pure guesswork on my part).

How they expected the Pre to sell as well as their marketing implies that they expected it to, is a mystery to me - the Pre offers very little new or exciting, with the OS being the only real exception (and I've heard a wide range of opinions on the OS). The problem is, if they hold back the HD2, they're going to end up not selling many of those as most people who want one will have moved to a different network or got one unlocked (O2 is one of the worse networks now IMHO - presumably they spent all of their money on iPhone exclusivity and subsidisation rather than improving their network and offering good deals).
Why doesn't the BBC interview O2 about the HD2 instead of wasting time interviewing them about the Pre?
I agree

Yes, been pushed back to 3rd week November. However none of the reps I have spoken to are absolutely sure when it will be out, nor what the final pricing structure will be.
I am assuming they will definitely be out by December to catch the Xmas traffic.
WB
Lol,
they will be selling it on estonia at late october on early november.
T-mobile is also selling them on 6 Nov according to them. I guess O2 thinks they are special and people will wait for them
Keep an eye on this thread guys.

How do you know? One of the early excuses for an ambiguous date was that O2 didn't want the HD2 to hurt Pre sales. However, there's clearly a lot more demand for the HD2 and a lot less demand for the Pre than they expected, so O2 might decide to fast-track the HD2.
Latest from o2;
I called customer services and spoke to a guy who said they will definitely be getting stock over the weekend and it will definitely be on sale on the 26th October. I have now spoken to quite a few o2 reps and none have sounded as positive as this one. He didn't even have to go and ask a supervisor/manager/buyer........
We shall see!

Thing is, they were originally planning to launch the HD2 on 12th October, so that blows your theory out of the water. See here:

Of course he didn't have to ask a supervisor. He was just telling you what you wanted to hear so he could get you off the line and move on to the next customer with a genuine need of assistance.
I'm not trying to be nasty, but there's no way the HD2 will be on sale from O2 on Monday, when none of the e-tailers are getting it until 11th November at the earliest. So for the next month or so, why don't you be patient, leave the poor call centre staff alone and get on with enjoying your life. It's only a phone.

Ecell Ebay Craziness

E-cell was selling the sensation last night for 419 pounds, the purchases rained down on them myself included...
This morning they have revised their price to 449, but still very cheap, its definitely still the cheapest around...
Just check Ebay and search for HTC Sensation, E-cell will be shown usually near the top

Well they are a reputable company with quite a massive feedback, and in the UK we are covered by distance selling regulations which gives us 14 days cooling off period and we can return within that time for a full refund or exchange.
I think 419 is definitely no money at all for the HTC Sensation

There isnt anywhere else cheaper thats a fact Even though they have now moved it to 450 its still the cheapest. I think they really undercooked it at 419, they had like 15 sales in 5 hours lol.

419....I paid that much for my dhd over a month after it was released.

I would really advise you to be very careful when dealing with ecell.
Just google ecell ebay.
They have a very sketchy record with high value items like phones.
I bought a nexus one over a year ago. Had to file a paypal dispute after I found out that they lied about shipping the phone.

That does sound dodgy, but with over 600,000 phones sold and a good feedback in the high 90's im sure your one was a minor glitch in comparision.

Actually it is not 600 000 sold phones. It is 600 000 sold items with a vast majority being low-value items - this is how they boost their feedback.
The research I've done after I ordered my n1 from them indicates that this it was not a minor glitch and their tactics is based on waiting for the 40-day PayPal dispute window to expire. They come up with excuses as to why they haven't shipped yet or outright lie to you (as was in my case) claiming that the phone has been shipped.
Maybe they've changed their ways, I don't know. Just thought a heads up was in order.

HTC Sensation XL Winner - Waiting for phone

Hi,
So I won the HTC Sensation XL from this competition: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1683209. I have been announced the winner and I am eagerly waiting for this device.
The phone has been "shipped off" on the 16th and would arrive at mine on the 18th. I have waited but the shipment can take a week as I am told. I am not jumping to conclusions just yet but I have asked the OP of the competition where my phone is and other questions... He is ignoring my PM's unlike before ( he could be really busy after he announced the winner ) but he is sometimes online but always ignores me.
I have sold my phone and I am waiting for this SensationXL... Do you think it will come? I will let you know if it arrives after a week or if it was all a fake.
Thanks
ProtoDeath
Actually you ARE drawing conclusions. Give it some time, Shipping to UK can take a bit (especially if you packet draws attention to the customs).

Dude...really?
And it's your fault for selling your phone before getting the Sensation...

Actually you ARE drawing conclusions. Give it some time, Shipping to UK can take a bit (especially if you packet draws attention to the customs).

He'd have nothing to worry about if he didn't go ahead and sell his phone. It's his own fault. I highly doubt this guy threw a contest just to troll everyone.

True. We shall wait for a week and see. Yeah it is too bad he sold his phone... thats a negative on his part. I know FireStone00 and he is pretty legit. Just calm down dude
@OP,
And you needed to create a new thread for this because?...
If it was shipped on the 16th, which was a Friday, and they told you it could take up to a week, just wait. No need to create a thread announcing the possibility/theory that the contest was a scam. It makes the OP of the thread look bad for no reason. Do you have a tracking number? or even a confirmation from the carrier that the phone was shipped? If the answer to either question is yes, then give it some time.
I will close this thread now as it makes absolutely no sense and you are simply inviting animosity over a concern that you have for something you are getting for free as well as ill feelings towards someone who likely is undeserving of it (the contest maker).
Thread closed.
PS. Just changed the title of your thread as you made it sound like you were scammed or something...
