Waiting this item from aliexpress:

I have ever seen ( AlieExpress ? ) an universal dock, with wich we can set the connector side (turn 180°) and where to have it (left, centre, or right). It exist...
Found it : Andux Zone Dock with Google Images.
---------- Post added at 02:02 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:22 AM ----------
But I've seen something today, it can be a better way : on eBay there's tiny micro-USB to 5 pin magnetic adaptator, to avoid daily insertion and have only touch-contact. This thing can be used with a magnetic dock or magnetic cable, but I don't know if there's left side magnetic docks...

I gave a look to the microUSB to magnetic adapter,
and I found 2 in AliExpress.
Look for :
Original USAMS 1M Metal Magnetic 8 Pin/Micro USB Charger Cable for iPhone 6 6S Plus 5C 5S iPad Air Samsung HTC Xiaomi Android
(not microUSB ?)
and
High Speed Micro USB Magnetic Adapter Charger Cable For Android Universal Magnetic Absorption Cable
(MicroUSB ! 3.13€ with shipping to France)
With that, we can build our own magnetic dock... :good:
I've baught the microUSB one,
3 weeks to wait,
I hope the small part fits well in the RN2.
It must not fit very well, I think, because the RN2 does not have 90° sides, wich the adapter seems to have, but I've baught 2 adapters, to try to fold one after heating it a few (and after having tried it in another old thing than my RN2, of course... ^^ ).
I'll tell you.

Beware with Haicom Car Holder (Looking for alternative)

Hi,
Most of you might knew or even bought this car holder:

I bought that one as well.
It was OK when I got it in the first time, attached to my car perfectly.
Last week, I wanted to took it off because I need to use other car.
After I took it off, the "spring" is loosen! The "spring lock" that you need to push is very loosen.
I cannot attach it anymore
So, I rate this product very bad because I have never took it off before. Only once and it's broken already.
Now, do you have good recommendation for this kind of PASSIVE car holder?
I prefer the one that is not vent mounted.
Thanks.
I have one of those, its been taken off and put back in my car and other cars load of times, no problems at all, not sure what experiences other people have had with them

Yeah, I don't know, probably it was a bad batch? I looked into the spring and it looks quite weak.
I was looking for a way to fix it, but no luck. The spring is just loosen.
Or is this a "knock off"? I bought it from "FoneM8" Amazon.co.uk:
Haicom car holder from FoneM8
I am now thinking to get this for cheap:
iTalkOnline £5.95
I know, it is cheap ... Probably I will buy 2 for spare
I also bought one like the Haicom but as a no-brand item on eBay. I was very dissatisfied with it too.
I bought then a Brodit mount. I took one to put on the dashboard but they have mounts for the windshield. It's very solidely built.
See this discussion for more details and pictures.
So far my experience with Brodit and Carcomm cradles have been very good. I got a carkit built into my car, and with Brodit there are mounts for most of the cars. And those can be build into the car without drilling holes etc.
And the cradle itself is also very good.
But, don't you have warranty for your Haicom car holder? Don't know if you bought it from PDAShop, but they are usually very good with their service. I'd say just get it replaced!

[Q] Powered Suction Cup Mount

I searched and didn't really find anything.
I'm looking for alternatives to the OEM HTC car upgrade kit. A non-universal, powered (or has a usb power input), suction cup mount. Are there any good ones out? It seems like there aren't many mounts in general for sensation and the ones that do don't have a power plug.
If you're going for a suction cup mount, you're either going to put it on your windshield or dashboard, which means you're going to have a cord hanging whether it's a powered mount or non-powered mount with a charger cable attached.
If that's the case, I'd think a "custom" holder is unnecessary (unless you really want it to start into car mode every time you dock it). I'd as soon get a mount that's inexpensive and works well. I've used and reccomended the Arkon Mobile Grip before and people have been happy with it:

There's also a shorter, non-flexible option: http://www.arkon.com/mobile-grip/mobile-grip-windshield-car-mount.html

That's actually exactly why I want a powered mount haha. But the one you recommended looks pretty sweet, I didn't find that one when I was searching.

How much does that tab thing on the side stick out?
Not that much. The spring is behind that tab thing. Here's a pic for comparison:
Arkon is recommended!
I do own this Arkon holder and it's probably the best out there. The built quality of this holder is top notch. The thing I like the most about this holder, even with a skin be it soft, gel or hard case, you don't have to remove it to mount it.
If you have one to buy, this product is the real thing.
Just bought the shortie lol Thanks for the vid!
Thunderbolt Mount
Hello,
You could always buy the mount for the Thunderbolt (http://www.htcdepot.com/igrip-perfektfit-car-charging-dock/3A78A8282.htm). I have it and it works good. The phone won't fit in it with a case on though, not even a silicone one. With out a case it holds the phone good, charges it, and puts it in dock mode.

[Q] docking station?

Might there be a docking station for the Note 4 that's usable while the phone is in a case?
Not that I'm aware of. The Note two official dock works a treat with the Note four, but regrettable not with a case.
You'll find a case-friendly dock nigh impossible to come by because if it fits in the dock with a case on chances are it wouldn't fit properly without one. And then if a company DID decide to go that route they'd have to choose WHICH case to tailor their dock for, as many case have different thicknesses. A silicone case? A metal one? A flip case? They're all profoundly different when it comes to something like a dock that needs a snug fit to work well.
Unless you're handy with woodwork/metalwork/lego you can make your own dock to charge your device with your chosen medium and a USB cord. I know there's a guy somewhere who made a sweet-ass lego one that fits his QI charging mat in.
Sorry, I know it's not the answer you wanted to hear. Hope it helps nonetheless.
I bought an RND dock that does work, but with a caveat; if you have a case, the phone is basically balancing on the USB port itself, with no other support. I guess the only way they could think of to fit any sort of case was to have a removable insert on the base, but it then means you're not supporting your phone completely. Not thrilled about that, but I was getting tired of prying my case off every night just to dock it, so this is the best solution I could find.

Which case are you using? That might help. I have the Note 2 Dock which worked w/ my Note 4, but not when it was in the UAG case.

The Note 4 with that case works in the Note 2 smart dock; you do have to cut the USB port cover off but then it's perfect.
There's a kidigi one that has an insert for naked phone and take it off for a reasonably thick case.
Check out the lamdba dockings (search for "docking lambda"). Can be adapted from 1-10mm in thickness of the phone and the phone is not only standing on the connector

Are there any QI pads that are both thin and with a small footprint?

I need a QI charging plate for my Honda Super Blackbird, where I have the Ram Mount X-Grip cell phone holder:

I want a charging plate that's no wider than my S5, and at the same time isn't higher than max 5 mm, preferably smaller. Are there any plates that can cover both those criteria? It's a pain in the ass when I have to mess with the charging cable, especially on longer multi-day trips, where I often take breaks and leave the bike, and I use the phone as a GPS with the screen on all the time.

this one might work for you! the width of this qi plate in the widest part is couple mm wider than my S5 (in superslim case) and height is about the same as S5 as well. the question is how you gonna avoid using cables with qi plate?
I'm afraid it's far to tall. Like I write I need something only a few millimeters thick, preferably less than 5, or maybe I understood that wrongly? The phone is around 8 mm tall, and a pad that high would put it dangerously close to the tip of the rubber on the holder. In 20 kmh on the Autobahn there's not much chance the phone would survive falling off (not to mention that I would never find it). And wires that I have to something mounted on the bike is no problem, I just don't want to plug in and out the charging cable of the phone all the time (espescially with the stupid lid over the port, and the annoying "remember to close the charger lid" messages I have to click away every time.

[SPAM] F-color USB A to C 6ft braided cable (lots of pics)

Another review for another USB A-C cable. Haven't seen this brand on the forum, so hopefully this can give you another option. This cable was provided to me for free in exchange for an unbiased review.
<MODERATOR EDITED - SPAM REFERRAL LINKS DELETED>
Pros:
- build quality: aluminum heads on both sides, smoothly finished, braided with some kind of synthetic material
- comes with a Velcro strap to keep things tidy
- packaging materials are all recyclable except the LDPE pouch
- passes CheckR
- reassuring feel when connecting to Nexus 6P
Cons:
- USB C charging head could be a bit slimmer, but it's only slightly wider than the included 6P A-C cable with same depth (13mm wide and 6mm depth)
Other Thoughts:
- charge rate with 1A Samsung brick resulted with fastest current of 1050 mAh according to CheckR
- charge rate with 2.1A Asus brick resulted with fastest current of 1630 mAh according to CheckR

Really nice looking cable, pity Amazon rarely ships anything like this to Australia. Any idea if a forwarding company will?

Hopefully someone else chimes in on that. I've been spoiled with everything consumerism since I live in silicon valley[emoji1]. Wish we had Google fiber here though
