Which camera sensor? Sony or Samsung - Xiaomi Mi 4C

Hey guys
According to the company they used 2 different camera sensor in this phone which is completely depending on your luck which one you will buy. So i am asking you guys if anyone have this phone with samsung sensor . make a little review and upload some samples. and let us know is it same as sony one.because the sony sensor performed very well in low light.
Thanks

You sure there are 2 different sensors?

its a sony cam with samsung sensor

So basically everyone will have the same camera?

unfortunately i can't insert link or image here because i am new user and xda think i will spam but . in the you can google "mi 4c camera sample" the 3rd site is phonearena that publish some samples of the mi4c cam and write a little review this is part of it:
"Mi 4c is equipped with a 13MP primary sensor that is produced either by Sony (IMX258) or Samsung (the S5K3M2)"
in addition there is photo on the mi forum that confirms this. i wish i could insert link and image .

edit: whatever i dont know

Whatever camera sensor the Mi 4c have my guess is that it will probably perform like Mi 4 and Mi 4i, that are above average, good but not excellent (at the level of Samsung S6 or LG G4 for instance).

Is it possible know which sensor there is on the phone once that you have it?

If you have parts at home you could, but i don't think you will have it.

You should be with Aida64 https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.finalwire.aida64
It has a section about the camera

Hey Guys, I would like to know what is the purpose of the small dot beside the camera?
Is it alright to cover the dot with the casing? Thanks in advanced.

The small hole next to the camera is a noise cancelling microphone. I'm not exactly sure what consequences will occur if you cover it with a case... I probably wouldn't cover it, but I guess it's not a very critical component.

Thank you for your information. Now I can purchase a case without worrying about the component.

Unfortunately, Aida64 doesn't show information about the sensor.. I wonder if there's a way to know it.

I think there might be a way to find it by looking in the "/sys/bus/i2c/drivers/" folder. There are a number of folders here, but one of them is the sensor I think (at least for some other android devices)
In my HTC One X, I got a folder named ov8838, which is my sensor. Maybe someone with a Mi4c can have a look if you find anything similar?

dmesg
check dmesg command in terminal after reboot
i did so and found imx in listing

Thanks for replying. I looked in that folder on my current phone just to try (I'm still waiting for my Mi4c) but there are several folders named "ov..." and "imx...". I searched every name on Google but some of those are sensors with a resolution that doesn't match my phone's sensor , so I can't understand which is the right one.

Oh okay, that's strange. I'm not entirely sure if it's a "reliable" method, but it works for my HOX at least and I know it works for some other devices as well.
Would be interesting to see if it works for the Mi4C

You speak from Moto G? Doesnt it have a Sony Camera? Could be the IMX... folder. And OV... for OmniVision, often used in front facing cams...

Yes I'm using Moto G 4G right now. There's a total of 10 folders called 'ov' or 'imx' so I don't really know which are the right ones. I'll look on my Mi4c once that I have it!

Can we get Front cam by third party?

Hi all,
ٍSome of us need front cam on N1 ? BUT HOW ?
Is the production of the front camera is difficult if the idea of connectivity through usb?
Will we see this product in the near future?
Sorry for bad language
... I really don't think so. You should develop and mass produce one, I'd mod my Nexus but I wouldn't put any effort in trying to figure it out myself.
I'm curious as to why "all of us need front cam on N1". I personally would never use it, nor want it.

Same here. I have my laptop with me pretty much all day, so if I really needed to do face to face, I'd just skype someone. Plus, what a battery killer.

It's very simple actually.
You can get it through a simple rewiring process.
It's experimental from what I see... but it *might* just work.

I will do it
Perhaps someone will create one that plus into the 3.5mm jack like the square does for accepting credit cards. A small camera that you simply plug into the top of your nexus. Or perhaps a case with the camera built-in that utilized the three pins on the bottom of the phone. However I think most of us are just going to wait awhile longer until a new google phone comes out with a 2ghz processor and a front facing camera built-in. What do you guys think.. 1, 2, or 3?

I have used Nokia phones with front cameras for a couple of years now, latest the Nokia N97 and used ichat a chinese software for video with the front camera, for me its no big deal, you have to use the fone in speaker mode or maybe with a headset, like I said for me its kind of pointless but now that the icrap has it all the idrones think is a great invention, to use it on the Nexus you would need an attachment again I think it is silly and useless, better to wait for the Nexus 2 if it comes with one, but for me its the least feature I want in a fone. but then again I make my calls quick got better things to do then talk on a fone for a long time never mind with video.
my 2 cents
I see my wifes face enough at home why would I want to see it on my phone at work all day.
I certainly don't "need" or "want" a front-facing camera on my phone. My 6-year old Sony Ericsson W900 had one, it got used about twice as a novelty and then never again since. Useless in a noisy environment as you can't hear each-other and also useless in a quiet environment as you have to have it on speakerphone so everyone can hear your conversation.
It's mostly a gimmick and there's a good reason it has never caught on. We certainly don't need this "new" feature that Apple have "invented" just because Steve Jobs says that it's "magical".
We'll I for one would love a front-facing camera for my N1. Whether or not I would use it, is irrelevant. **** I would love a to be able to beam to the moon from my Nexus One, doesn't mean I'll ever use it.
Android to me means freedom which is everything opposite to what Apple is.
Now to OP, I think it is very possible to create a camera that will plug into the microSD in of the nexus one, but then again, to have to plug in and out every time you want to have a video call, would be... annoying, Unless you gonna be doing some late night "skyping", then this application makes sense.
However to my original point, I would love to see the N2 have one.
In Australia we have been getting phones with front facing cameras for many years. No one uses them, the whole video phone idea flopped here years ago.
I suppose to have one, would be something pointless that the phone has, but doesn't get used.
If we are so lucky as to see a nexus two.. (lol since i'm on at&t that will be never).
I would like to think that it would save some money and not have a front facing camra.. Naturally all the ifollowers will be happy and talking about it.. so other companies will add one just to compete..
With that said... I would rather google (or htc, or whoever).. Not put in a front facing camra just for the sake of saving money and adding some other better feature.. Or just passing savings right along to the buyer..
I don't want to take pictures of myself.. I don't want to video chat with other people.... Its not like the crappy camra added is going to be "great" in the first place..
You want a front-facing camera? Here's a FREE way to do it.
1. Go to your Wife's purse
2. Work your way through all the junk and find her compact or whatever that thing is called that has a mirror on it
3. Start whatever video-conferencing app you have on your phone.
4. Hold the mirror behind your phone, so that the mirror is reflecting your image to the camera.
Voilà!
It's been about a year since my optics class, but we had the chance to play around with some right angle prisms. These prisms could be used to reflect light in this manner by total internal reflection:

If this works, you could just hold this in front of your camera, which would reflect your face into the camera. The right angle prism I played with was just about perfect for this. I'll have to see if the professors can loan it to me.

Mi4c display has extreme blur and ghosting or just mine?

hello together,
i receveid my mi4c yesterday and noticed that the display has the above said issues, i think most of you should know what i mean, i come from a moto G (2015) and never had these problems on it...
both are IPS LCD, scrolling text is horrible on the xioami.. looks like the display has very high reaction and transition times...
so do i have a faulty unit or is this standard on this phone?
EDIT:
i made the perfect test : www.testufo.com/#test=chase&background=404040&leading=FFFFFF&trail ing=00FFFF&distance=38&pps=600&height=180
i adjusted it so the trail of the white box touches the blue box wich is 38 distance in my case (moto g has 25)
if you have the same result on your phone than i know my phone is not faulty
i think it should be moved in q/a. you have a faulty unit, contact your seller as soon as possible !

Did you do it at full brightness?
My white box hits the blue box at about 38 also, running CM12.1 and using chrome. I've never noticed this before and don't really see it when scrolling text.
Not ruling out faulty units but everyone is going to say theirs is different because everyone's eyes are different. Similar argument on computer monitors with TN/IPS and refresh rates etc some people cant stand the ghosting and others say they cannot see it.
EDIT*
just thought I'd add I have run the authenticator app when I was on miui and all came back ok.
Weird how there seem to be different results.. Am I mistaken or did I read that different models might have different LCD panels? Like one was Sharp.. Would there be any way to find this out?
38 here too.
Good job tho. You should post this test to the MIUI Forum. Probably in the mi4c section.

i highly doubt your result to be honest.. since 2 people already had around 38 also
The refresh rate of the screen is 60Hz (although sometimes it scales dynamically in order to save power) so it can display 60 frames per second with vsync which are a lot for a human eye to process without blurring. So I think that the blurring happens because of our eyes not the screen, therefore this test is not valid.
Doesn't touch even at 20:

A screenshot won't show it, when it's running you are looking for the faint white ghosting behind the white box to touch the blue box.

Edit: what i mean is an analog camera would take the picture like you see it with your eyes, you would See 1 square with a trail, not 3-4 shifted squares

Note 7 Official Samsung Lens cover

Does anyone know where the lens cover that is pictured on Samsung's Official website here can be purchased right now? I've been looking for it and can't seem to find it. Amazon (where I normally turn to) only seems to have the version that is for the S7/S7Edge. Really interested in getting this case ASAP because I am going on a trip soon and plan to use my Note 7 as my primary camera. The telephoto lens in particular should come in handy for taking long distance photos with optical zoom instead of having to rely on the digital zoom.

Amazon has it listed as shipping in 1-3 months.

Apparently the Camera is Improved

We already knew the sensors are different than the S7-series (Sony IMX333 vs. IMX260 and ISOCELL S5K2L2 vs. S5K2L1) and that Samsung tweaked the s/w including enhanced image processing which takes three pictures and combines them in to a single image every time you snap the shutter. Here are some pics Notebookcheck took at the launch event using a S7e and S8. I guess we'll see how the new cameras perform when sites like DxOMark and GSMArena do their objective testing.
Here's what Notebookcheck said...
The low-light photos we took with the S8 at the launch event looked a bit clearer, brighter than and not as noisy as the photos of the Galaxy S7 Edge.

Thanks for the link, this is very interesting, S8 photos looks really better.
Until we see what Apple does, I think this will be the best camera of 2017.
Some more comparison: https://www.sammobile.com/2017/04/0...ras-are-definitely-better-than-the-galaxy-s7/

No its Isocell.. as per the exif data (image id). The comparison (lowyat) shows s7 (imx 260) vs s8 (isocell).

It is apparently an old convention by samsung to possibly indicate the sensor type via the image ID in the exif data. See the image properties via windows explorer and navigate to details where you will find the image ID. Look for the 15-16 characters from the left. If they read "LS" = Sony IMX sensor; whereas if they read "LL" = Isocell sensor. See the screenshots below for clarification.

when i go to details i see that the image id is empty...
If the ISOCELL sensor looks this good, I'm really curious to see how well the Sony sensor does.

That happens when the exif data is missing (or removed from the image) as in case of compressed images. You will need to download the full size original image files from the website (save it to your pc) and then look for the image ID.

I am curious as well. I'm a sony fan myself but apparently since the last gen galaxy smartphones samsung Isocell have really stood up to (if not beaten) the sony IMX sensors in overall performance .
Really did improve.. Check out this video comparison
So...did anybody compare the new imx333 and the new slsi? How to they stack up? Is there any real difference?

Mine has QS code for both, front and back, so not sure what to make out of it. Phoneinfo hardware list shows Sony sensors, but do not know how accurate that is.

Which one you did you get? Mine will arrive by 5-10th of may (exynos S8+) and will probably have the Samsung sensor in it, which I totally don't mind, as it is definitely better than my last S7 (sony imx260) and S7 edge (Isocell) camera outputs.
@pete4k I'm pretty sure you have the sony one. Can you please upload a screenshot of the details of image properties showing the Image ID (of any photo clicked by your phone rear and front camera)? Alternatively, you could upload a full size camera sample pic at drive and share it here, if you don't mind.

Looks like they've changed LS (15-16th letters) to QS in your case. Maybe a hardware revision / region specific code?! Anyhow, the difference was and is in the 16th letter. My guess "S = Sony" else I have no clue!

I got the isocell and i have mixed feelings about it. I compared as much as could the old s7edge imx with the s8 isocell and i found the following: s8 has a very agressive noise reduction in low light shots, so agressive that sometimes kills detail. S8 has a slighly better wb but also favours red a bit too much. Sometimes people's faces look like they just got off a treadmill ) too red. Outside, at night you get a red fringe instead of a pure black sky.
These are specific isocell problems that plagued last year's s7 and by the looks of it they are still here. Lucky the ones who got the sony even if the wb is a bit warm every time on imx

[Hardware Fail] Camera Lens Flare Issue

"I've created a Telegram group to discuss possible issues with some users and most everybody noticed a huge issue with the Camera, with this one having huge lens flare in certain angle where the source of light is not even visible on the Viewfinder. This happens not only at sunlight but also at night where the strength of a single street lamp ruins the whole Camera experience."
This was the E-Mail i've been sending to Oppo and apparently their fix is:
1 - Clear Camera App Cache
2 - Reboot the Phone
3 - Update your Software Version
4 - Factory Reset the phone
The problem is that this is a Hardware issue and Oppo doesn't recognize this.

This is how a Lens Flare happens and it is normal in most cases, but not here. People are having this aiming the phone to the floor.
So, do you guys have this issue?
Basically go outdoor and keep playing with the Camera until you see the Flares as the attachment shows.
It must be on a certain angle and only affects the Main Camera.
More examples:
Good write up of the issue, I haven't gone out of my way to try and reproduce your issue but I've had the phone since release in the UK and taken at least 100 photos in varying lighting conditions and not one of them has any flares or reflections like in your shots

you don't have sun in UK
only the night shots are mine
Mmmm I live in Seville (Spain) hard sun 300 out of 365 days of the year and for the moment I havent noticed this, here im going to post 3 recent photos (obviously with the find x2 pro) and in one of them (the grizzlies one) maybe a little bit of flare in the left side of the photo
its not in direct contact with the light, its on a certain angle depending on the phone.

Hahaha while that's generally true, for about 2 weeks last month it was around 28 degrees and sunny... Which is where I took a lot of shots outdoors and no issues

i dont notice it aswell on daylight in real life usage, but when you know how to reproduce it it's hard to miss
I don't see flares in my shots, but I notice that there is a blurring of outer area of the frame.
When I take a photo of a document or something a foot or two from the lens its very noticeable.
Its sharp in the center of the frame but blurs are very obvious around the center.

thats normal due the sensor size.
I don't have this issue I'd recommend getting a repair/replacement through warranty, problem solved

none. i've mention this even before i got the phone and still no proper answer.
it's still under "investigation"
Having exactly the same issue here. I get a halo toward the bottom of pictures mainly around 6-7 in the evening. Doesn't look like a software issue I would say definitely lens related on the main camera.

Still can't seem to replicate this issue which makes me think it's device specific, however from the Engineers reply it seems like he's implying it's a limitation rather than a fault

if its limited to some devices, even better. just replace the faulty devices.
Well I don't think it's a limitation because iv have this camera since release and and iv just noticed it yesterday IV been taking pictures for a while now with no issues then just suddenly IV noticed it happening, seems very very bad at takes g a basic picture with a lamp at the side
