CHOETECH Multipurpose Flashlight Review - Galaxy S6 Edge+ Accessories

After my last review on the CHOETECH Qi Wireless Charger, I got this CHOETECH Multip-purpose LED Flashlight review unit. Since I do some photography work, I already own quite a few flashlights (including MagLite), but this one is a little bit (actually a lot) different from the rest. I've been using it for a week now and it's been good to me. Yet again, the product quality isn't inferior by any means and the flashlight is bright enough for most of my work. And what's even better is the battery life which is pretty amazing due to obvious reason which I'm gonna discuss below.
Like always, I'll split the review in following categories:-
1. Packaging & Content
2. Build Quality & Design
3. Functionality
4. Pros & Cons
Packaging & Content
If you have read my review on CHOETECH Wireless Charging pad, you probably know that I wasn't really very happy with the boxing of the that product. Looks like CHOETECH didn't care much about that and yet again I'm highly disappointed. This one comes in a recyclable brown box shown below without any branding or seal.

}
In-fact, the box doesn't even mention the product name on it. So, no brand, no product description and no seal. That means, anybody could open it, use it and sell it back as a new product and nobody would know.
Moving on to the contents, we have the following items inside:-
- CHOETECH Flashlight
- Lanyard (pre-attached to flashlight)
- USB Cable
- Instruction Manual
- Warranty Card
Wondering why there is a USB Cable ? Well of-course, one of the reasons is to charge the flashlight but that's not all. This flashlight packs quite a few unique features that makes it standout among the rest. Keep reading to know more.
Build Quality & Design
The finishing of the flashlight is outstanding. With a metallic mount and a strong plastic body, the product is very well built. It fits very well in hand and looks good too. Now, what's more unique about this product is, this flashlight is Shock Resistant and it is IPX6 Water Resistant. So, be it rain or terrain, this flashlight will live to see the next sunshine.
The list of features doesn't end here. For emergencies, this flashlight packs a seat-belt cutter on the edge and a window smasher at the bottom. The cutter has a sharp blade fitted nicely inside plastic mount at the edge in such a way that it is absolutely safe for anything except thin straps. I tried it with a thick piece of towel and it did cut the edge of the towel with right amount of force. At the bottom of the flashlight, there is a rubber cap which could be pulled off to reveal a sharp and solid steel mount which could be smashed against a car window (or a walnut) to break it into pieces. I didn't try this one due to lack of objects that I would gladly break.
Coming to the best feature of this flashlight, it does have inbuilt 5600 mAh Li-ion battery which could charge any of your USB devices. It charged my S6 Edge+ from 0-100% and still had hours worth of power for the flashlight itself.
Overall, it's a well designed product and it has that premium quality flashlight feeling to it.
Functionality
Choetech's Amazon Listing states that it is a 250 lumen LED which is pretty good for a flashlight. I couldn't test the lumen value, but when I took a walk with it at night and the flashlight was easily able to highlight a 100 (328 ft) meter distant tree even with the lowest brightness. Clicking and holding the power switch for 2 seconds starts/stops the flashlight. It also packs an SOS functionality on double clicking the power switch quickly. With it's massive 5600 mAh battery, I was able to charge my 3000 mAh cellphone battery to full once and I'm still struggling to completely discharge it using just the flashlight since a week (on a regular use).
Opening the mount reveals 1 USB Port, 1 Micro-USB Port. The former acts as an output for powerbank while the latter is used for charging the powerbank/flashlight itself. It also has 4 blue LED indicators inside which denotes the charge status of the powerbank on pressing power switch (each LED denotes 25%). After connecting the USB cable, one needs to press the power key to start the charging process.
I was able to charge my phone from 0-100 in 150+ minutes which isn't bad for a powerbank but it is definitely below what CHOETECH claims on its product specification.
Like you can see above, the flashlight output is mentioned as 5V/2A but in my test, my S6 Edge+ could only draw 1.28A which is only 64% of actual claimed output. The charging time also aligns to my test result. So, if you're expecting a more powerful charging output, you might wanna skip this one.
To test it's IPX6 water resistant capability, I did try holding it down under a running tap and it didn't disappoint me there. I didn't want to drop it to test the shock resistant capability because I really like the finishing and didn't want to scratch it. Please feel free to try and let me know..
Since we've covered everything about it, lets head to the next category
Pros & Cons
Pros:-
- Premium looks & Strong built
- Rechargeable
- 5600 mAh Powerbank
- Shock & Water Resistant
- Seat-belt Cutter & Window Smasher
Cons:-
- No Focus Ring
- 1.28A powerbank output (against 2A)
- Poor Boxing
- No in-box Charging Adapter
Overall, the product is well worth it's price. If you're one of those adventurer and you're packing bags to head out to your next destination, I would highly recommend this product. But if your primary necessity is a powerbank, I would look somewhere else.

Received a proposition to test and review it by a kind person . I'll test it too and add my opinion on your topic, is it ok for you?

It looks like you guys have got a pretty cool product! Is it water proof? Can the flashlight be put into a bucket of water?

Usually IPX6 doesn't recommend water immersion. Its a test conducted by holding the product under running water (at specified quantity). So, I didn't try it by putting it under water. However, going by the build, I believe a quick immersion might not make much difference. Please be aware that the company wouldn't recommend so.

I have one of these! I'd like to add a couple of points from my own experiences.
Pros:
-It's bright. Like really bright. Like see-the-beam-in-the-dark bright.
-Price is good, when comparing the functions with similar tools. I'm an emergency responder, so having a window punch, seat belt tool, flashlight, and charger all in one is nice to me.
-It's rugged. Water resistant and shock resistance are important. The finish and weight are also wonderful.
Cons:
-It won't stand up. You can't set it up and make it stand like a lantern, like some flashlights can. Minor inconvenience, but a feature I enjoy on some of my other lights.
-Turning on and off will take some getting used to. To do so, you have to hold the power button for 2 seconds. It's a very odd way to turn it on and off, and if you just double tap the button, it starts flashing in SOS mode. I wish it had a slightly easier on/off method, perhaps with a momentary on also.
-It's a bit spendy.
Bottom Line:
Would I buy it? Absolutely. For what you're getting, it's a good deal. They run about $30 on Amazon, which isn't too bad, considering you're getting a charger that'll probably charge your phone twice before it runs out of juice, a flashlight with 3 brightness modes and flash, a window punch, and a seat belt cutter. Especially for firefighters and emts, it's wonderful. I do recommend.

flashlight
250 lumens max
5200mAh charger
seat belt cutter
glass breaker
$29 not bad at Amazon
Thanks for reviews. This would make a great light for my emergency pack and for our vehicles.

waiting for review too
nice looking btw

Hello all,
Few weeks ago, I've been contacted by a member of the CHOETECH team, asking me if I wanted to test their last flashlight. I accepted so here is my review of the CHOETECH Multip-purpose LED Flashlight.
First I want to talk to you about the packaging. Directly sent from China to France, very simple, very refined box. No name on it, I opened it and find a very reliable and heavy flashlight, it seems very good and trustful.
Packaging
The rest of the box contains the cable to connect it on usb to PC to charge the flashlight and the powerbank.
The user manual with all the instructions and the description of the product.
A card to inform choetech if you're happy or not with their product (well done I must say, it's a way to let the consumer they are there to listen us).
Rest of the packaging
And the rest
Go for the test, I used it on different conditions.
How to:
To enlight the flashlight you have to push the power button for 2 seconds, it power on the light at the first level, if you push it once again, you have the second level, and once again for the third level of light. If you want to have the warning light you have to push the power button twice quite fast.
To stop the light push the power button for two seconds. And to quit the warning light you have to push it twice quite fast too.
Flashlight tests:
First at night, when I go out with my dogs, the light is really clear and powerful, the three level are very useful to see on very far distance. There is no focus ring, but it doesn't annoyed me as the light is quite well focused. I already owned another flashlight to go out with my dog but this one replaced the older one, it's more powerful and I see better the different dog's surprises on the ground lol.
The light is IPX6 so I tried it on rainy night and it still working great, so I assume that the IPX6 is respected, I will not put it into water as IPX6 is not intended to be put entirely under water but for rain it's perfect.
Second test, in my car, to check on the engine, the fact there is no focus ring is a bit annoying but the light enlightened quite well all the engine so it's good for me, I'm not an expert in motor engine.
Third test*was in my house, to check a lost thing for my daughter under the sofa, and it was just great I see all the dust under the sofa and the little character of my daughter.
Last test, my daughter like to play ghost with the light under her face and it's just so funn.
Powerbank tests:
To enable charging, you have to push power button for two second and the phone will charge automatically, I tried to charge my phone (Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge plus) with it and it's fast, not as fast as the original wired fast charger from Samsung but as fast as the wireless fast charger from samsung, I have to precise that I used the cable from the original Samsung fast charger to charge my phone with the powerbank, and not the cable from Choetech, as it's mentionned it's only to charge the powerbank and not the phone.
I don't have any tool to measure the voltage or else, but I have checked time and compare. The Choetech powerbank is on the podium*just beside the wireless fast charger from Samsung.
I could charge my phone nearly twice (I have to precise that I don't go under 20*% of power battery on my phone). So it's very good for my use, and I use it on my car to charge my phone after work if I need.
Powerbank
The windshield braker tests:
I don't want to brake my windshield so I tested it on an empty bottle. Result: Windshield braker won and one bottle died.
windwhield braker
The belt cutter tests:
Hopefully I had a rest of nylon belt to test it, The cutter is good, and cut the seat very fastly.
cutter
Results of the tests:
I must say that it's a really good multipurpose flashlight, if you need something like this, my advice go for it. I have it on the car just in case, and I still use it when it's night to go out with my dog.
So if you need one go for it right there*: CHOETECH Multip-purpose LED Flashlight
Pros:
Multipurpose
Very good flashlight with different intensity
A good powerbank and quite fast
Good belt cutter
Good windshield braker
Seems reliable
Cons:
No focus ring
Only 5200 mAh but maybe a bigger one is planned

nice

HTC Desire: How Not To Make a Cheapo Dock While Waiting For Real One

Sometimes I can be pretty handy. Other times I order specialty parts and promptly break them.
I have more videos on the way.
Part 2 of my FedEd shipping video which shows the Desire next to the Hero side by side during unpacking.
Another shows some of the current layout and widget elements of my homescreens.
I'm collecting all HTC Desire videos across the web and organizing them into a simple interface at vodpod.com -- only 100 times better than youtube.
For now: The videos I've collected so far -- not nearly all of them... http://www.vodpod.com/XDAdesire
And the HTC DESIRE Group video site: http://vodpod.com/group/htc+desire

I liked your pre-edited comment; request to bring it back
Very simple but effective way of making a dock!
I've been thinking of making one myself but have been wondering what to make it from.
A nice dark wood with a routed edge would look sweet i think!
(keep an eye on This thread, it could turn out well)

Oh, so you were serious with the edited out "you, sir, are a genius!" ! HA HAH... I thought you were just playing along with my self-deprecating video showing how dumb i was to forget the tip was protruding when i smacked the cable from the back side to wedge it into place.
Well, if you're serious, then, here's where to get every version of cable you might want... these guys have it all, and quality is great.

I think having a cherry wood would be beautiful...
I did that whole thing in 30 minutes because I was impatient, the cable had just arrived, and I wanted to see if it worked, so i was doing a rough version as a "proof of concept".... And I just started with the premise that if I drilled a hole at the angle that i want the desire to lean back at, and I drilled it slightly narrow so I have to wedge in the cable head (which has soft-plastic corners thus would wedge-in snugly), that the basic idea of embedding the microUSB connector at the correct angle would not be so hard....
but this, again, was a quick test... and i was making it up as i went along, with literal hacking of wood and screwdriver and hammer!
While I was just doing it fast and brainstorming at same time, i was thinking "what could i use to stabilize the back side of the desire so it was solid when i pressed the screen"... then i thought of those clear plastic acrylic things at office supply places -- two kinds -- either the clear business card holder, which would only provide a minimal back surface, probably not enough, or one of those 3x5 photo holders that display at pretty much the exact angle you'd want your phone to display.

Well, just some ideas in case you decide to make one. would love to see your end result.
I just wonder though if you would do better to get a ready made dock and then make the outer casing be cherry wood such that it perfectly covers up all exterior facets while still having, ready made, those nice touches like spare battery charger as well...

Pretty smart about making a dock for now. I really don't use them, but if I did...I would surely be making one or at least drawing up some blueprints to make one.

No problem, I have been away from the site for many months and just getting back to XDA after long gap. ....
That is what I consider the be the greatest single widget made on the Android platform -- it is called EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT ... and as soon as I get time, i will be making videos that feature the various apps and widgets I use -- AND WHY.
Executive Assistant has been updated probably 5 more times since this video, and it keeps getting better and better. It is one of the most customizable pieces of functionality around.
It can be as small as a 1x2 widget or as large as a 4x4 widget...
In the 1x2, 1x3 and 1x4 modes, E.A. displays icons only -- THAT IS ALL YOU SEE on my display --- and you can configure it to show up to i think 6 different things:
email
SMS
phone calls missed or voicemail
twitter
facebook
RSS feeds
i thought maybe there was one more thing
But if you set it up as a 2x2 or 2x3 or 2x4, then the line above the icon displays the actual message information, and scrolls... tap the different icon at bottom, and in the same display space, it shows the detail info for THAT item, and so on.
If it's 3x and 4x, then you are seeing a lot more of the actual messages filling your home page.
HERE IS WHY I DO NOT USE anything more that 1x4 (actually now I just use 1x3): Because i don't need to have a widget take up all that extra space on my home screen -- because ONE TAP on the icon -- and it pops up a window that displays on top of the whole page. so, tap on twitter icon and pop up diplsays whole page showing all twitter feed, and SCROLLS. Then -- you want more? tap the icon again and it launches your selected twitter app .... or a different tap pops back down the window to its collapsed row of icons only.
It's truly amazing --- and you can select your prefered app for each function... so for voicemail, you could select visual voicemail from your provider.... for SMS you could select handcent... for email you could select the native gmail app or launch a browser...
ok thats all for now.
try it. there is a free version -- and yes -- it has some small ads... but you know what, there are a few apps worth paying for ---- this is one. Biut even if you dont want to pay? FREE with ads.
incredible -- likely to win a devvy award for android division at end of this year.

Wow, I have to say, that is pretty inventive! That's the first time I have seen product design from a user here where they have gone and found materials to actually match the look of a desktop background! very impressive --- I love it when people make custom stuff!
I have been away for months --- no, not locked in a mental institution, though at times it has felt like that -- but i have been away from all things related to the Desire -- and android. ... And coincidentally, without even looking here on this thread, i just ordered a dock a few days ago from hong kong. They have been available for several months, but i kept waiting to see if there would be any variations. Nope... Just the same 2 or 3 slight versions on same thing offered for Nexus One almost a year ago which all got slightly tweaked for the different connections of the Desire. There are a few different vendors...
I chose this one since it's basically all same stuff but this one sells the cradle with the extra battery charger, plus sends the extra battery.
The annoying thing about this ridiculous world-wide lack of support of 3rd party accessories for HTC smartphones is the shipping time... Everything from Hong Kong takes forever.
(joke) I think it must be against the law to air express anything. All they ever do, and I mean EVER do, is send airmail which takes weeks and weeks (/joke)
CURRENT LISTING on ebay, fyi:
http://cgi.ebay.com/CRADLE-SYNC-DOC...402576?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item4cf2959050
About $20 USD including shipping --- but again -- takes about 3 weeks to get, ugh.
Hi all!!!
I, too, am fashioning my own dock, however instead of doing it from wood, or from scratch, I'm kind of cheating.
I'm going to be re-purposing something else.
This:
It's basically a USB extension lead, but with an up angled end shoved into that plastic thing, I broke it today and so I thought...cheap and easy micro-USB dock! And so I'm almost finished getting myself a cheap and okay looking dock
When it's done I shall make a new thread and post high quality images
I definitely want to see this! I love original thinking! yeah!
p.s. i got my dock from china 2 days ago... You know life is a little cazy when I have not even had chnace to plug it in and use it. Ridicululous.
HEY, that raises a question.
Does anybody else have problems with LOOSE CONNECTIONS at the USB port at bottom of the Desire phone? I swear, my cables always come out way too easily -- whether in the car with cigarette lighter, or USB data cable to computer, or charging micro usb to charge the unit....
Cant tell you how many times I had it plugged in overnight only to find that in the morning it wasn't charged, and warning said "plug in now, battery extremely low"..
I have ruled out, in every case, the cable and connectors. They are all fine. So it has got to be the phone's USB port. It just doesn't seem to bs SNUG and tight. Does anyone else have this problem?
thank you

Dock is almost done, need to go to a hardware store for a couple of bits. It should be quite good, need a bit of acrylic at the back I think, to give it a bit to lean against.
I never have a problem really, even when I hang it upside-down for a few seconds it takes a while for it to fall out.

Fantastic! Hey are you open to commissioned 2nd one? wouldn't you know, i finally try my grreat chinese shipped product, and no charging at cradle, and no USB contact with data cable, tried and retried... called them in bejiing. they were very nice, but what value is getting my money back.?
Look at the date of this thread. May 1. 6 months later i don't have a dock.
well i've lived this long without one.
But good luck, yours looks rather cool !!

I don't have any pictures handy, but I used a large Binder Clip.. lifehacker.com / #!5747897 / how-to-build-a-car-mount-for-your-cellphone-from-office-supplies
I slowly bent the end of the "handles" and, because my pliers gouged into the metal, dipped them into rubber tool handle dip.
Works pretty decent.. though now I too am working on getting a mount that allows the camera to see the road.. AR Navigation FTW!

Vibration issues and hw mod

Hi all,
I've been bummed by the atrocious vibration function of this otherwise fine phone. In my digging, I've discovered that the vibration changes intensity while it's on. It starts high pitched but very quickly (500ms) drops down in intensity and vibration. Also, it seems the motor can't stop quickly and you can hear the phone winding down after each impulse.
So I went to the Verizon store to look at possibly getting me a MOTO phone, and decided to test the vibration on a bunch of the display phones. Turns out, the phone sounded identical to the HTC One they had on display.
But more importantly, they had an LG G2 there and it sounded perfect (much like the S3/S4 or Moto phones). Constant pitch with negligible wind down times.
Long story short, I ordered the LG G2 vibration motor from ebay and I'll be trying to jam it in the back cover in a day or two. I'll keep you posted.
Wish me luck!
So motor came today. It is almost identical - the body is about 1mm thicker but that's it. You can feel it through the back of the phone and I think there is a rubber o-ring on the phone body that can be removed to make it fit a little better.
Unfortunately, the LG G2 motor did not work.
What I think is going on is that the N5 is a standard off-center motor. It can be powered (i did) with 2.5v and will vibrate but it will produce quite an inertial vibration so that you can hear the motor winding up/down. It is also more power hungry.
the LG G2 (and other phones) uses same sized PWM motor. That allows for nearly inertia-free vibration so that the impulses can be short and precise. It is also more power friendly since it can produce lower/higher intensity vibration without need for a regulator circuit.
so there is that. While physically the part is drop-in(-ish), it won't power at all since the N5 outputs standard, non PWM 2V to it.

If this is a standard DC-Motor (two contacts: V, GND), it should actually work, as long as the required volage is the same. The PWM just "emulates" an analoge signal using digital outpout.

In my limited understanding, it doesn't matter how the pulse averages out. The pwm type motors also have 2 contacts, but they expect a pulse signal: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Servo_control. It is true that with PWM signal you can emulate analog for inert consumers (e.g. incandescent light or standard motor) and control their intensity. But for PWM motors what matters is the pulse width not the averaged voltage.
BTW, I may be completely wrong here. This was all just a guess of mine since the motor sounded like a servo when DC was applied to it(very short buzz). I haven't actually found any confirmation that the LGG2 motor is in fact a pwm motor. I guess I could try to hook it up to an adruino or something to confirm...

I'm pretty sure this isn't a servo, as servos have three inputs. GND,V and SIGNAL. Have you tried hooking it to a power supply or battery? You could also probe the output of the N5 with an oscilloscope if you have access to one. I'd love to do that, but I don't have my Nexus yet.
EDIT: A buzz sounds more like insufficient voltage to me.
Question, where exactly is the vibration motor located in the Nexus 5? Is it easy to remove and replace?
I got a 16gb with a good motor and just got a 32gb with a weak motor today. (returning the 16gb). But before I return, was considering doing a transplant... simple to do? Thanks.

The motor is attached with a double sticky tape to the backplate. Its round and flat, the size of a dime but thicker.

That's what I've seen as well. I wasn't sure how the thing is supposed to be powered (perhaps the casing could be GND). In any case, I tried 3V and 6V (2 or 4 AA batteries in series). I was able to power the N5 motor just fine with either 3 or 6v (the phone outputs 2V as measured with multimeter at the contacts). The G2 motor did not spin though - it just gave a very short buzz.
I remember i played with a servo on an arduino-type board and the servo gave a short buzz when DC was applied on it (don't remember which contacts)
Perhaps the answer is simpler - the G2 motor I just received could be defective...

I think chances are high that it really is defect. As you can see in the picture below, there are only two contacts and nothing else.
Beside that, I can't think of any reason for choosing a servo over a DC motor as vibrator. Servos give you position control and stuff, but all you need for vibration is a fast spinning motor with controllable speed.
So I opened up my 16gb with the good motor (which I planned on returning) and swapped it out with my new 32gb that had the weak motor. It was an improvement, but still not as solid as it was in the 16gb. Leads me to believe the problem is more than just a bad motor and perhaps something on the board itself.
BTW, in the process of opening up the phone, I managed to scrape up the edges of the phone - even when using a plastic pry tool. The plastic on the back cover is pretty soft and dents/scrapes easily. So I am definitely RMA'ing this back to Google. Grrrrr....

I just dug out my old Galaxy S2. Low and behold, it has the same type motor inside as the N5 though with different connectors. I'm going to solder in new contacts and try it in the N5 see how it does.

It was already hosed - the vibration motor was weak and noisy. I had two side by side and the newer one definitely has a problem. I was already going to RMA, but tried first to fix it myself and save everyone the hassle. That didn't work out, so back to my original plan of doing the RMA. Shame on Google.

I gotta say I completely agree with the last sentiment. I feel like I got taken for $450 with this phone. It is infuriating that they would release it with such cheap vibrator and cheap speakerphone making these two functions borderline unusable.
Unfortunately, i don't see any better phone on the market today with a ~5" screen. MotoX comes close but has terrible camera which to me is important. I also went to the i-store to check out the dark side again(twice). Wasn't able to convince myself it is better than the N5 though

This may make the Moto X more appealing for you... They're having a $150 off sale on non-contract phones on Cyber Monday
http://www.motorola.com/us/motorola...ce=gplus&utm_medium=post&utm_campaign=cmmotox
I actually just got one last week, perfect out of the box, no defects. I bought from Amazon, so gonna see if they'll price match, if not, will return and buy from Motorola direct on Monday.
The Moto X is good, but I liked the Nexus 5 better because of the screen and it's thinner. Then again, the active notifications on the Moto X are awesome. If the 3rd Nexus 5 I get still has issues, I'll probably stick with the Moto X then.

Wow, I wish I knew how to solder!
What's the max distance the Qi pad can charge from? Or does it require direct contact?

Wow.. ! that's looking good..:silly:
Don't know that I could bring myself to do this to a perfectly good brand new phone. I think I will get myself the actual wireless back! Ahh!
Samsung is dropping the official back mid May.

I've done this in the past and even designed a stand specifically for use with that power mat (techneesh.com/#wcma1)
I actually ordered a different power mat that has a smaller form factor (a powerbot) and plan to design a dock/stand specifically for our gs5 that houses the powerbot.
Any feedback or suggestions for features to include? In the past I've made docks hold pens/pencils and have embedded NFC for task automation upon docking.
Don't mean to hijack the thread - back to business - I'm concerned because I just got the Powerbot today and it says the output is 1000mAh aka 1A - I don't think this is enough to charge effectively for those of us that tether + bluetooth + gps + leave the screen on. Does anyone know what the Verizon one is rated at? Am I missing something? We need 2+A...
Only you would solder right away and not take of the plastic around the camera

That wasn't the point. You can use almost any S4 QI receiver that you like. The pins are the same position. It charges pretty fast.

Not really. My most important factor is that it is ultra thin so it doesn't bulge the case back. The battery lasts so long that I'm ok if it doesn't charge it ultra fast. If I needed the fastest possible charge rate, I'd use the USB cable directly. I'm only using this solution to get me by until the official Samsung wireless charging back is released. That way I know it's waterproof. It's hard to tell but I think the gasket is on the qi receiver and thus isn't maintaining a waterproof seal.
My point was that you can choose whatever QI receiver you want. The pin spacing is the same on the S4 and S5 so you don't have to wait for an S5 specific QI receiver to be released.
I honestly think they are mostly the same device sold with different names on them.
http://goo.gl/vKcTb2 - This one says 500 to 1000 mAh. I don't think they are being truthful. The input current is 1000mAh so you can't be getting 1000mAh output from it. It's impossible to have a 100% efficient circuit.
http://goo.gl/gqLvxX - looks the same but states 600mAh.. I doubt it's any different than the other two I quoted.
http://goo.gl/w2mRZD - Looks the same to me.. States 600mAh.

Super glad you are mature and intelligent - did not want this to turn unproductive. Yes I agree - most electronics are white-labeled; and there's probably a standard qi-published circuit that is being copied as-is if there are different manufacturers. Those three look identical.
My personal goal is to have a waterproof wireless charging setup that charges fast enough to more than keep up with heavy usage (gps/bluetooth/tethering/screen-on) - but I guess you're right the only safe bet is to go with the Samsung one.
I got in the Samsung Wireless Charging Pad for the gs4 today (unknown output) and also have a powerbot pad (rated at .65A output) - do you know of a good app for measuring incoming charge? I remember using currentwidget in the past but don't think it reported incoming current (or if it did not accurately).
(I'm wondering if the powerbot & similar form factor pads have the same output as the larger ones (like the samsung one I linked))

I just tried this mod (with the htc innards from 1st post) - and I wanted to see if I could do it without soldering the phone side - it worked by just making a little loop in some 22gauge solid core wire and pushing it down where the spring contacts are & holding in place with painters tape (or electrical tape, I didn't want the residue).
Looking closely at the back cover, you can see a little rubber barrier around the camera / heartrate sensor /flash and battery that is likely to be rendered inefficacious by the mod, however it looks like the s4 receiver should fit within the outline... mistertek maybe you can confirm? Waiting on my s4 receiver...

I haven't found a reliable way of measuring the current. The best I've been able to do is to measure how long it takes to charge from 50% to 100%. You can choose any two numbers (30%-100% or 80%-100%) but the wider the range, the more accurate your result will be. Whatever range you choose, be consistent. Test with those numbers all the time.

This depends on how many coils there are in the charger and how efficient your receiver coil is. Practically speaking, usually, there is just enough efficiency to charge a phone with a medium thick case on it. The more you separate the charging and receiving coils, the longer it will take to charge.

There are a few places where the seal presses against the charging receiver and not the phone. It's sealed around the camera area but the left corner of the seal presses against the top left side of the receiver pad.
Also, I had to trim my receiver so it didn't cover the speaker. I was also able to trim it to keep it inside of the seal in that area. Just be careful not to trim too closely to the coil.

ZeroLemon 9,000 mAh Extended Battery Review

**********Work in progress************
I just received the ZeroLemon 9,000 mAh Extended Battery and Case for the LG V10 today.
I am going to leave a review here and update this as I use it for the first few charges.
Before I start, ZeroLemon did provide me with this extended battery and case for review purposes.
Like all of my reviews, this does not affect my opinions of the product and this will be my honest opinions and thoughts.
I have attached quite a few pictures to this post, however if you would like a different picture, just let me know.
Let me start this by saying, this case big.
You know this already though if you wanted this huge of a battery in your phone.
This case is not quite double the thickness of the phone.
The phone at its thickest point without the case (The camera hump) is 0.417 inch.
The phone with the case on is 0.703 inch.
The case will add 0.286 inch to your phone.
I find this is still pocketable, about the max that I would want to carry in my pocket but I can do it and it does not bother me.
The flaws that I found in the LG G4 case and battery have been addressed this time on the LG V10 case.
The ports at the bottom all have a small lip to prevent dust intrusion.
The sides of this new case are thinner and do not add any bulk to the top, bottom, or sides of the phone.
They have added Fast Charge capabilities to the battery this time around.
With Fast Charge comes huge decrease in charging times on this battery vs the one from the G4.
This is a welcome addition considering the 6 hour charge times of the past.
This case is much like previous ZeroLemon cases in overall design.
The looks are the same while the case seems to be a little softer material this time.
There is quite a bit of internal structure in the top portion of the case that is extended above the buttons to make this case much more solid than previous cases were.
The sides of this case are flush with the screen while the top and bottom both stick up slightly to prevent your screen from ever touching anything should you lay your phone down screen first.
This slight change from previous cases makes a huge difference in the overall feel of the case in a good way.
The ports on this case all line up perfectly, including the opening on the back for the camera and volume/power buttons.
The headphone opening is large enough for me to use all of the headphones that I have.
The USB port is also large enough for me to use all the USB cables I have.
The overall fit of the case is excellent, I for one am glad that they did not release this case until it was perfect.
DAY 1
Battery life so far has been excellent.
First day I have 3 hours screen time and approximately 11 hours of use.
I did have this connected to a moto 360 smartwatch via bluetooth as well as a pair of bluetooth headphones.
I had about 4 hours of music streaming on and off throughout the day.
I have the screen set to 100% and 2 emails, one gmail and one exchange, both set to push.
I have 55 minutes of voice calls today.
I started the day with the battery at 92%.
The battery is now sitting at 68%.
On an day like today my battery would usually have been at about 15% and I would have had to charge when I got home or swap a battery out.
I do not think it is possible to kill this battery in one day.
If I had had the screen set to auto brightness I would easily get double the screen on time.
DAY 2
Battery life is still excellent, better than the first day.
Ended the day wit 72% remaining.
75 minutes of phone calls.
3.2 hours screen on time.
DAY 3
Battery life is getting better still
Ended today with 75% remaining.
78 minutes of phone calls.
3.2 hours of screen on time.
I will hold off on updates for a few days.
So far usage is steadily improving over what I had already considered excellent.
I will update this again in a week or two with detailed stats.
I will update this section as I use the phone over the next few days and charge cycles.
So far the battery arrived with 56% charge.
I installed the battery in my phone and put the case on it and plugged it in to charge in a Quick Charge 2.0 charger.
It charged to 100% in approximately 45 minutes.
This is the first charge and I let it charge for an additional 12 hours as stated in the instructions.
I do not think it actually takes that long, however it is what is recommended so I will do it.
ZeroLemon recommends to allow 5 to 6 full charge cycles to achieve optimal performance.
I will come back and update this review after 6 full charge cycles with battery stats then.

How's button access? Is it awkward to use? How about the fingerprint sensor?

Yes the SD card can be removed without removing the battery, you would still need to shut off the phone first I would assume.

You are welcome, I will update it tomorrow after work.
Button access is better than I expected.
The sides of the opening are slanted so your finger is sort of pushed right where it needs to go.
For the fingerprint sensor... I have the T-Mobile version and do not have the update that fixes the fingerprint sensor.
So you still have to be touching the metal edges for it to work right on mine.
However the if I flex the side of the case a little I can get my finger on the metal edge of the phone and it works perfect.
I would assume once I update my phone to fix the sensor there would be no issues at all.
If you have a version that does have the update for the fingerprint sensor it will work perfect for you.
What about photos? Does the case interfere with the autofocus, or does it cause the flash to interfere with the picture?

I will try, but it will be difficult to get both items to scale. I do have a caliper that I can actually measure both with and give the measurements.

Updated the original post with measurements via caliper.
The phone at its thickest point without the case (The camera hump) is 0.417 inch.
The phone with the case on is 0.703 inch.
The case will add 0.286 inch to your phone.
Thanks checked it out. :highfive:

Well, now it's 13:25 and I am down to 15% left. With the normal battery I would be around 40 at this time..

I would contact ZeroLemon, because I got 32 hours out of mine.. And I don't gimp my phone, full bright and everything on.
I'm curious if you have the standalone LG battery charger, does the ZL battery fit or would the cover flap need to be removed?
If you do and it does fit I'd appreciate a pic!
I don't see myself needing two ZL batteries, but it would be nice to know if it's still a good charging option without having to modify.
Based on your photos it looks like it could possibly just fit or be a slight squeeze.
Thanks!

Yep. It fits without any modifications. Just won't close, obviously. Did it on my initial charge so I didn't have to stay tethered to the wall for 12 hours.

General First impressions

As per a request for first impressions in another thread, here you go...
Pre ordered a 256gb in green directly from Samsung in the UK. It arrived early yesterday after a surprise email saying it would come a week early. Spent Friday setting up so today was the first real day of use. Still updating apps and extra logins etc but I feel I have a decent idea how it will go as I move from a Note 10+.
Thoughts...
1. Packaging - nicely done and a little quirky. Adds to the event
2. Build quality-feels amazingly well screwed together. The hinge is absolutely solid and tight. No worries at all. The device feels light and is very easy to hold. It is an absolute delight to make calls from, the slightly narrow frame makes it so easy to hold in the hand for extended periods both for calls and screen use.
3. The crease - you can absolutely see it and feel it. After 10 min, honestly, you just don't notice it at all and if you do, it reminds you that you have a phone that folds in half!
4. Speed-it feels rapid and smooth. The 120hz is definitely noticeable and there is no lag at all
5. Battery - it is still optimising so hopefully it will adapt and improve. It came off charge at 7.00am today at 100% and went back on at 8pm with 10% left. This was with 30 min Bluetooth music, 2 hrs browsing, 30 mins gaming, 2 calls about 10 min each and around 50 messages through the day with 10 photos as I played with the camera (director mode?!). Also had a smartwatch bluetoothed all day too. About 5% an hour seems about what I saw today There is no way it will ever go from getting up to going to sleep without a top up but I expected this and am okay with it. To be honest, the note 10 + struggled with similar usage some days. Looks like about 1hr 25 to fill up again from 10% with a fast cabled charge.
6. Setting up - the transfer software is spookily good and it still feels like magic when your old phone home screen appears on your new device
7. Folding - it is a novelty I don't feel will wear off soon.... set mine to answer and end calls as I open and close and the satisfaction is just brilliant. No idea why and can't really explain, it just feels right.
8. Cover screen - far more readable than I thought and is great for checking notifications and dismissing them. I can definitely see the way it will work. Imagine mid range smartwatch abilities on the outside of the phone and you get an idea what it will do. It does more than enough and it doesn't need to do more.
9. Case-Samsung leather in green. Fits great, does what you want it to, will keep it safe enough. Looks really boring. Will probably change it when I get chance for something more in keeping with a fun phone
10. Regrets - yesterday I was a bit unsure, by the end of today I am completely converted and wouldn't dream of sending it back. Amazed.... it feels like a half a dozen steps forward over the note10+ in so many ways.
11. Other people - be prepared for other people to want to hold it and fold it....
Hope this helps someone and happy to try and answer questions if I can
Thanks for the review. I'm coming from a note 9 so looking forward to small form.factor.
Glad to hea opening and closing can answer/hangup calls. I assumed it would bt haven't found anyone mention it.
Regarding the leather case, does it make it much thicker? Does it feel like a thick wallet?

It isn't a thick case at all and really doesn't add much to the phone, it is maybe 1 - 2mm at most. It is very well made and feels good, I just find the green colour s bit boring

The setting is in the call settings rather than the main setting menu. Took me a little while to find it

Seems to be fine on my Mégane 2019. I know this doesn't help you though.
Just for info really. Maybe try the beta version?

I have a 2018 skoda karoq which will have a similar infotainment system. I needed to remove the phone from the car and the car from the phone and Bluetooth as all settings had copied over but wouldn't work.
A re-pair of Bluetooth and then a fresh set up of android auto worked for me. I also used a new cable just in case as it often gets flaky after about 6 months use.
It is working reliably now.
Good luck
Quick thoughts since ...
The camera is really nice and produces decent photos. Not really missing the telephoto lens
And I had forgotten the joys of a fingerprint scanner that just works quickly and first time, every time. Why it ever moved from the power button (I had a Sony z series) I will never know.
Battery is week, but I was expecting it. With battery care charging to 85% it does not last full day for me. Taking of charge at 7.00 around 18.00 it is left with just few percent of battery. 1,5h on screen time. 2-3 hours bluetooth music (that looks to be eating battery fastest), 5 email acounts, 30 min of talks. Smartwatch (garmin - looks also eating quite a lot) connected all day long. + covid tracking app (bluetooth) on all the time.
Android auto connects no problem (MB e class 2017). There was a problem before due to cable. To my surprise just few cables worked out of 10+ i had. Only original ones worked or very thick one from amazon basics.
Tried to connect via wireless dongle (https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/aawireless#/) but after connected after ~4-5 min crashes. Did not spend much time yet, but it seams that even if it will work in the end, will be not possible to use as battery is depleating by 3%/min and phone becomes very hot when connected.
Bought aramid cover. Looked nicer than black leather. As aramid cover is thiner by half an does not look to be so scratchy.
Bought samsung rectangular wireless charger with USB C. Wirelss charging works only when original (included with pad) ~18w charger is connected. Tried other lower 10-15w charges and with them the wirellses charging pad does not work. Tried borrowed older Micro USB samsung charging pad, so it charges with any charger, just slower.
Well, this is not good news
I've had my Flip 3 for 4 days now, and loving it. I have contacted tech support for a reason/answer why.

I got my phone yesterday too. It's great so far, the only issue I'm facing is excessive heating on the top panel. I'll see if today after more normal use it gets better. Did you experience heating on your unit?

I've had mine for a week now. 8/128, black version F711B. The excessive heating under the cover display is quite disturbing. Noticed it mostly during video calls (GM, Skype, Wahatspp, etc.). When on video calls, it discharges the battery to 0 in about 70 minutes from almost full and heats up so much I can't touch it.
Hoping for a firmware update...

The first day or so when it was downloading massive updates and restoring backups etc - yes. Not noticeable almost all of the time now, occasionally warm when charging
Coming from a Pixel 4 and after using the Z Flip 3 for the whole day, I will sadly be returning it to the box. I love the technology behind it and what the future holds, personally I am waiting for a "mini" version. I find the Z Flip 3 actually bulky and heavy for a device that is supposed to make foldbles more poket-able. To me, It does not feel light and it is not that small either when folded. Plus, I don't get it why they made the screen so tall when opened, it is wasted screen past a certain screen ratio (22:9 !?...c'mon). It is so tall the phone wants to roll around the fingers when texting, you have to squeeze it to hold it. Maybe the ergonomics are better and everything is just perfect if you have bigger hands and fingers? This is something worth trying individually. I didn't expect not to be able to get used to the Flip in my hand, before I received I was thinking it will be love at first sight.
For those who are used to and prefer screens this big and tall, you will most likely going to love the phone, the screen definitely delivers. The crease is almost a non issue. When looking straight at the phone, on a white background like in Messages or Chrome, you will not see the crease.
I have had the device since Saturday. Build quality is top notch and I like the form factor and love the portability. I am still not fully convinced. Battery life is as expected the biggest concern. I think it will get you through a light to medium use day. I mean the idea of the phone is too keep you away from it with digital wellbeing in mind. Checking for notifications on the cover screen should help keeping you from opening and using it all the time. At least this is my idea. I don't want to use my phone that much anymore.
There are still some software quirks which hopefully will get ironed out. And hoping for more features for the cover screen.
Btw I noticed one thing: The cover screen doesn't show an incoming Whatsapp voice or video call. You can only answer telephone calls from the cover directly via loudspeaker. Same for duo. I can't access a call from the cover screen. Can anybody confirm this behavior? Not even showing the Whatsapp ones is really annoying... I am lucky that my Garmin is connected and at least will show it on the watch

Yes, heats up. Browsing web and listening to music via bluetooth heats up quite a lot. Installed samsung labs app and reduced max temp by 2 degrees to get earlier throttling. Not sure it had any effect. Even if it works, 2 degrees too little to notice.
I have had mine out of the box for literally 5 hours. So far, so good, I have noticed some heat build up when wireless charging bit OK when wired charging. Battery life so far is poor but it is still learning usage patterns so hopefully that will improve. The device is very solidly built and the internal screen is beautiful. I had been holding off buying a flip until the external screen size was improved and I am very happy with what Samsung have done here. Cameras are OK, I am no photography buff though! It fits into my pocket perfectly and you cannot beat that fold/ unfold action!
The camera is pretty bad. Coming from an iPhone 12 pro max and one plus 7 pro, it's super muddy. Zooming in, it's a muddy, pixelated mess. Even outdoors in a well lit area, the detail and sharpness is pretty meh. Pretty disappointing since I think I read it has the same camera sensor as either the s20 or s21.

It's the same hardware as the previous Z Flip. You're comparing phones that were in competition for best camera phone to one that tried to pack current Qualcomm hardware into a center fold. The camera and battery are where they brought the price down.
I'm honestly a bit surprised Samsung didn't follow Asus in doing a split battery. The first thing I thought of when seeing the ads for that on the ROG Phone 5 was the Z Flip.
I'm coming from a Note 20 Ultra with the 108MP camera and near perfect action shots. I can definitely appreciate losing quality, but it's also a personal question of whether it outweighs the novelty.
