[ISSUE] Notification Handling on the Moto X Pure - X Style (Pure) General

I posted this in the CM12.1 thread, but I thought it's an issue the devs would be interested in and that deserves its own thread.
I've had my Moto X Pure since Thursday and I've noticed one significant (and annoying) difference between AOSP and stock: there are no heads-up notifications in stock. For some reason, Motorola has disabled them (this is my first Moto phone, so I don't know if that's what they normally do in their version of Lollipop). Normally, that wouldn't be an issue because I could just use Floatify or a similar app, but on certain message notifications, (like notifications from Gmail, Nine, and other email apps) the stock OS seems to be making the body of the message inaccessible to third-party apps. So on my OnePlus One, I could set Floatify up such that tapping a new message notification would expand it and allow me to read almost the entire message within the notification itself. But on my Moto X Pure, the Floatify pop-up only shows the sender and subject. I'm pretty sure the problem isn't with Floatify because I'm using the exact same settings on my OnePlus One. Also, I tried using Tasker and AutoNotification to intercept a Gmail notification and I couldn't capture the message body.
I suspect this has something to do with the way the Moto Display feature is implemented. Though I love Moto Display, I would like to be able to use Floatify the same way I use it on my OnePlus One. That's one reason why I might ditch the stock ROM in favor of CM12.1. Alternatively, if it's possible to cure this issue in an optimized version of the stock ROM, then I would humbly request that the devs keep that in mind as a tweak to include (thanks for all your work, BTW).

In Settings > Sound & Notification, the last setting is "Notification access." See if checking "Floatify" works for you? On mine, all of the apps are unchecked by default.

Yes, Floatify is checked.

Head ups notifications never worked for me with Gmail. Back when I had a Nexus 5 on stock even.

Hangouts - Notifications

I thought I would just post this here, it's both my question with my answer as a work around that I found...
My question/ Problem is that my Hangouts Notifications weren't always coming through. Hangouts (and Gmail) is not displayed as an application in my "Notification Center" (in EMUI 4.1). ((I was also trying to turn off the banner display, which I find incredibly annoying. )) It's like it doesn't exist on my phone. Too bad it's a system app, so I can't uninstall and reinstall it. I tried rolling it back and updating it to get it to show up, but no luck. Because it wasn't showing up, I couldn't change it to be a priority notification. (I had already set it to protected in the battery manager with no luck.). My question is: How do I get it to show up in the notification center so I can adjust it?
My work around is to change the notification through the "Apps". I toggled it to be a "Priority Display" and I was able to turn off the banners. Hopefully that takes care of the missing notifications. I'm sure it will take care of the annoying banner.
Has anyone else experienced applications missing from the notification center? For beta testers, is this fixed in the EMUI 5?
My notifications work perfectly fine for Hangouts and Gmail. Like you said, I have the applications setup as being protected. And yes, Hangouts and Gmail may not show up in the notification center, but if you go to Settings>Apps>Hangouts>Notifications, it gives you the option there, including setting as priority. Try that and see if it works for you.

Heads up (Banner) notification in B360

Hello guys,
I flashed successfully from B131 to B360.
All works fine as soon.
All notifications arrive immediately but not all were shown in banner mode (heads up) although I chose it in notification settings.
For example AquaMail is only show as banner if I choose in AquaMail settings high priority notificationas.
Tapatalk or other apps are only as icons in statusbar. Whatsapp or sms are shown as Banner.
I'm very confused. In emui 4.1 all notifications are heads up.
Is this a bug
Thx for helping
I am having the same issue with EMUI 5 with Android 7. Searches on google and xda don't give many answers. Have you tried exempting all apps from battery optimization yet? That's the only other answer I've found so far, but some claim it still doesn't work.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-8/help/notifications-t3454081
The more I learn about this phone, the more I realize that EMUI simply gets in the way of how Android is supposed to operate. Banner and LED notifications are either overridden or ignored by EMUI for third party apps. The only way around it is to use apps that have built in notification settings that can override EMUI.
For example, I use Textra as my primary messaging app and its banner and LED notifications only work when I select those options within the app. EMUI doesn't seem to recognize those functions for Textra and a bunch of other apps as well.
That would explain why I only see notifications for default apps.. will see with the settings in the other apps..

And this applies to the LED notification as well. I turned on the phone screen yesterday to find 3 different apps had notifications in the status bar, but the LED never flashed to tell me they were there.
Hii @PuffDaddy_d
Yes I have the same issue
And the only thing works is the sound notification
But then missing the LED one
LED manager will take over and control the LED notification - just a shame you can't turn off the battery charging LED.

Yes, that app works very well, but it is a huge battery drain for me. It wasn't worth keeping installed.

Bizarre notification issue in Pie Global 8.9.7 Beta

Anybody else on MIUI 10 8.9.7 beta having issues with notifications? Text message and 3rd party email work fine but Hangouts and Google Voice *will not* come through. It's as though they're just totally blocked. I've tried all the typical stuff...disable battery optimization, enable autostart, lock the app in memory, make sure all notification options are selected...turn off Miui Optimization...everything. I absolutely cannot get these notifications to show in any way.
Any ideas? Thanks.
Yep, the same happening to me with Allo.

Same issue on 8.9.11 Global with hangouts and Google messages.
Still persistent on 8.9.13.
Still persistent on 8.9.20. Any known solutions? This is incredibly annoying because I'm on the beta but my bootloader is locked and I have to wait another few weeks to unlock so it's not like I can even go back to stable Oreo yet.
*edit* version number typo correction
This is happening to me with unofficial Telegram clients. As long as I have official Telegram installed notifications work in all clients, but if I just have Plus Messenger or Mobogram notifications doesn't work.
This bug still remains in latest build (8.10.11). in miui per/app notifications option, notifications are activated by default, BUT yoo can see a few options below each app notification page switch: Sound, vibration, show on lockscreen, show headup....
By default, I seem to remember only vibration option is activated, so here (and on each conversation you got a notification in the case of telegram) you have to activate all options you want: sound, show on lockscreen....
After a while, all this activated options will be resetted by the system (we dont know why) and will switch back to its defaults >> "only vibrate and dont show on lock screen" combination.
I'm on a same boat, guys. Extremely annoying.
Updated to latest beta 8.10.11 and many apps do not have notifications. I tried everything like mentioned above, even reinstalling apps - notifications are not coming.
Very frustrating for Android Messages for example. Have to check several times if I have some messages, it's like a postbox outside of the house - go and check for yourself.
From what I hear it's still persistent in the global beta 10.0.3.0 which is based on Pie.
same for me. I m on global stable 10.0.3.notifications don't work proprely and also picture in picture don't work(tested on youtube and maps).
Sent from my MI PAD 4 using Tapatalk
Running MIUI 10.0.3.0 Global and having the same issue. I've discovered that with Hangouts, in particular, there is a workaround. I sent myself a message and left it unopened. Now whenever I receive a message from another conversation, I get a full slew of notifications including lock screen notification and sound that says "2 new messages", listing both the message I sent to myself and the new message from the other conversation.
Hope this helps someone in the meantime while we wait for a fix...
I was finally able to unlock my bootloader and go to Global 10.0.2.0 (android 8.0) via XiaoMiFlash and my notifications for hangouts and android messages are back to normal. I got the notification to upgrade to Global Pie (same version number 10.0.2.0 for some bizarre reason but a different suffix) but I've heard numerous reports on xda that notifications are still not working properly on that build.
I'm on stable 10.0.3.0 with android 9 and have the problem too. Mainly with whatsapp. I don't receive any notification at all
The issue does not persist only in MIUI ROMs. In fact, this bug is affecting any software systems installed on top of MIUI ROM base, including GSI builds etc.
The most common problem affected by this bug would be 3rd party message applications failing to display incoming message notifications. And I think it has to be something to do with the system failing to present network push notifications to the app level (I am not a dev so this is with my furthest extent of knowledge to describe the situation). How do I know? I have tried the following experiment:
On stock MIUI10 Global Beta, I have both stock MIUI Messages and Android Messages, with the later set as default messaging app. Notifications never showed up when there were new incoming messages (not even logged in Notification Logger) yet when I click into the app I can see the unread messages.
At this moment, I am on Pixel 3 GSI build with full hardware functionity and with ONLY Android Messages as messaging app, and when I asked someone to text me a message, NEITHER did the notification nor the message show up in the app, yet the LED notification kept on pulsing until I switched the SIM Card into another phone, received the unread message and read it, then the LED pulsing disappears. This means the unread messages in 3rd party apps on MIUI ROM are appearing just because they are in sync with the stock MIUI messaging app. In any other cases without the stock MIUI messaging app (which heavily relies on system frameworks to function), the phone could indeed receive messages yet NEVER could bring it to the app UI & notification level.
I'm wondering if anyone could identify and deduce what is the exact cause of the issue after having read my observations, any help will be greatly appreciated with sincere gratitude.
Looks like this issue *may* have been resolved in Pie beta build 8.10.25. I seem to be getting notifications now for Hangouts at least.
My Threema notification works again, too on 8.10.25. But not on lockscreen.
For me the google notification issue was solved after upgrading to Stable V10.0.4.0-PDGMIFH
This was fixed for me. I'm on the newest beta - has anyone else found that they are unable to set custom app specific notification sounds anymore? I've gone through settings and through the app themselves and the option is missing.
This kept happening to me with Hangouts so I ended up moving to a non-MIUI ROM. Not sure what the issue was, but there was nothing I could do to get notifications to work.

Mi Mix 3 Notification Issues

I've just yesterday gotten a Mi Mix 3 and set it up accordingly, and I'm finding MIUI okay as a whole except for some issues with notifications I'm having. Basically:
Some apps that send push notifications will only send them to the notification shade. No notification icon, no pop-up alert, no lock screen notification (more on that later), no sound, no vibration, no notification light. This is all completely independent of the notification settings of the app. I can turn everything on and it still won't show. Some apps show fine, such as discord and messages, but they still won't show on the lockscreen:
No notifications showing on the lockscreen at all. For apps that do send notifications, only the sound and notification light will display when I receive one, but checking both the lockscreen and notification shade whilst the phone is locked will show me nothing until I unlock it. This is while "Lock screen notifications" is enabled in the app notification channel.
No per-app notification sounds. This is most likely less of a bug and more of a missing implementation, but since this is a base Android feature now is there alternate way to enable these?
Settings specific to these issues:
In "Lockscreen & Password / Advanced Settings / On Lock Screen" the phone is set to "Show all notifications and their contents".
In "Lockscreen & Password / Notifications" it's set to "Show Animation".
In "Notifications & Status bar" "Show notification icons" and "Show on lock screen" is on.
MIUI version is fully updated at 10.2.1.
Anyone got any idea?
Many thanks
For me i had to activate it for each app seperately, that i wanted notifications from. Except for apps that already gave me notifications like snapchat. I know i had to do it manually on instagram for example

Strangely, by going into the app notification settings and changing the settings off and on again it seems to have fixed the problem? At least for the actual app's I've tested (twitter and discord).
I've also tried with an app called push notification tester however and this has the same 1. and 2. issues. I'm not sure what the difference is but if it works for important stuff at least that's what matters.
To everyone else the 3rd question still stands; is there a way to get app-specific notification sounds in MIUI 10?
The simple solution is to install a non-MIUI-based ROM.
Have someone found out how to set per app notification sound?

LOL. Stop fat-shaming it! Weight was one of my biggest concerns coming from a Galaxy S5, and the MM3 is heavy, but you do get used to it after a couple of weeks.

Literally burst out laughing in a meeting where I'm the lowest man on the totem pole by far, oops.
I'm having this same problem again myself
Even Xiaomi apps like YiCam don't work right half the time.
The notification inconsistency in MIUI is one of the biggest reasons that I just listed mine for sale. No matter how many times I've gone through individual app settings and overall notification settings, it never works as expected. And my expectation is only for it to work as the settings that I've selected indicate. It makes me a little sad actually... this was my first Xiaomi device and I ended up liking MIUI way more than I thought I would (especially compared to EMUI... which is complete trash). Oh well... on to the next.
I run an app called Notification Repeater(apk) and it seems to address any of the inconsistencies that MIUI has with Notifications(or lack there of). I use another app called AutoNotification(by joaomgcd on the Play Store i believe) to block some notifications such as "x app is diplaying over other apps" that never seem to go away.
I know it kind of sucks to have to find a work around to use a phone when realistically it would be nice if your phone just worked the way you wanted it to out of the box..but since installing these apps i have been more than happy with my current situations when it comes to Notifications.
I've also had similar problems. In addition to manually turning on each apps notification in settings (Have to remember this for every time I download an app as well) I've aslo downloaded the app 'Notification Repeater' which has helped significantly. I get absolutely ZERO notifications on the lock screen though which is something I still haven't figured out how to fix without switching ROMs. I hope someone can figure something out.

It is sort of thick but is the densest phone I've ever held. Got used to it after a week or two though, I don't think it's a deal breaker

Question notification light

Hi all,
I recently got a Xiaomi 12 and noticed that a notification light is missing. I've tried a couple of alternatives that I found on Google Play (including Always on Edge or NotifyBuddy), but I couldn't make either to work: the former was far too complex and the latter worked just for one time but then stopped.
Do you have any other alternative to offer which is guaranteed to work for Xiaomi 12 on Miui 13.2.4 and is simple enough to set up? It'd be great, if there are instructions that can accompany the setting up (although not necessary). By the way, I tried the instructions laid out here:
https://www.thecorrectblogger.com/2022/02/xiaomi-12-notification-led-light.html, but they didn't work for me (the settings seem to have changed in the app).
Thanks in advance!
I use the app "LED Blinker". I'm happy with it.
I use AOD XPath for my Xiaomi phone. Select "Receiving Notification" on "Activate Display Mode". It allows you to select which apps notification (e.g phone miss call, instant message app) to trigger display AOD screen with notification icon and message.
