Note 5 features - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note5

I'm not sure on how many of you have gotten your hands on the new note 5, I did today with the note 5 and the note 5 edge. Some interesting decisions Samsung went with, not going to lie it's like an oversized S6. No removable battery, no SD card slot. They changed the s-pen up with adding a lot of new features. However the edge model doesn't get a built in slot like the normal version. I'm interested on all of your thoughts!

Doubt that

No sd card, no sale with me. Gonna hafta upgrade to a non Sammy phone for the first time in a long time. It's a shame.

Sigh, I feel like Samsung slapped us all. The stupid critics who kept on bleating it feels like cheap plastic WILL NOT be purchasing it. They will stick to their iphones and still be bleating about it.
Not sure if I'm going to purchase the oversize s6 with stylus. How will you replace a battery on it when it goes bad? I'm on my third oem battery purchased from sprint. Why because I use my device all day long. It has replaced my laptop.

The S6 does not have a stylus. Just saying.

It was sarcasm. I was referring to the note 5 as just being an oversized s6 with a stylus...
There does not seem to be that great of a difference between them...

[Q] Will you stay

So now that we know the S6 will not have a removable battery, will you stay anyway?
I know that I will not be sticking around. Based on that fact alone, and the fact the my S4 and S5 have been disappointments, I am making the move to the LG G3. I don't think I will ever be ok with a unit that you cannot pull the battery out of. How much do you think it will cost to replace the battery outside the warranty period?
I'm with you. No removable battery, and no SD card are deal breakers for me. I think there are many like you and I who despise superficial style over substance, function, and repairability.
The Galaxy S6 might as well be an iPhone that runs Android. Most of the reviews trashing Samsung plastic bodies are from iPhone using reviewers.
I will hang on to my S4 Tri-band until it no longer functions. When the time comes for replacement, if LG still makes phones with removable batteries, that is what I will buy.
I'm looking forward to seeing if this is a miscalculation by Samsung. The sales numbers will tell.
I don't find it a need for me to switch from a Note 3, nothing looks worth yet. I'll wait for the Note 5, but we'll see.
Also I'm considering buying an Asus Zenfone 2 to play with, the estimated max 350$ price seems worth it to try.
Better switch to lg g4 when it is released it will be a great device
I thought I might skip the S6 b/c of the no removable battery & no SD card support but I decided to get the S6 Edge when it comes out. Besides my S4, I've been using a Nexus 5 since it first came out and I've gotten used to not having those features. The S6 Edge is just so advanced and good-looking that I'm willing it get it.

Anyone with the Note 5 have regrets?

I have been reading some have regrets "upgrading" to the Note 5 from the Note 4. If so I am looking to trade my Note 4 with cases and 128gb Micro SD card for the Note 5 because I am not eligible for a phone upgrade. Thanks in advance.
i am, but not because of the $250 wasted, but because i'm back on a 2yr agreement. i pretty much only use my phone for tethering and streaming music while cutting grass. the note 2 has pretty bad reception where i live, but dropouts tethering happen in the same spot on both phones but with the note5 i have to keep attempting to reconnect even if it has a sigal. the note 2 will just keep tether on until it gets a good signal.
i'm giving my sprint account to my daughter soon anyways so no big deal, and i got a free ac66r that i flashed to tomato. i'm still on unlimited verizon too.
Not one bit. I upgraded from the S6. I had little interest in this phone because it seemed like the same phone just bigger with S-Pen. I'm glad I was so wrong, it is much different and better than I predicted.

IMO not worth upgrading from a Note 4 to Note 5. I miss the IR blaster, removable battery and micro SD slot on the Note 4. Also, the Note 4 had a better feel and grip when using it without a case. The Note 5 is really slick.
I now carry a QC 2.0 battery pack around to offset not having a removable battery and it's cool but it's nothing like popping in a fresh charged battery. XDA has an article reviewing the Note 5 and it's exactly how I feel.
Samsungs UFS storage is fast and the Note 5 is snappy, build quality is great but I don't think it's with upgrading from the Note 4 or even the Note 3.
If you came from the Note 2 or some other line of phones then it might be worth the upgrade.

I'd throw an Otterbox Defender on it anyway, the physical appearance doesn't matter to me.

Super regrets here. On my note 3 I had excellent lte connection. I had rarely any time where I DID NOT have reception. Now it's unless I'm on wifi I rarely have Cell reception.
This pos and I regret not taking it back in the 14 day period. It barely gets 3g where I had lte with my note 3. I'm sitting here at watching it cycle back and forth between 3g and no signal while it's just sitting on a table.
Thinking about having Cell coverage back on on the note 3 and just using it a a cell phone carrier wifi hot spot.

I like mine. I upgraded from a Note 4. I do miss that I had several batteries I could swap out, but thats not a big deal to me really. I haven't come across a day where I actually ran out of battery life on my Note 5. I will say I did get my 64gb Note 5 for $80 due to a pretty nice buyback I had. It is definitely faster than my Note 4 all around. Spark gets better coverage, for me at least.
Yes I do, I've had this phone for two weeks and already the lens and back camera broke when I walked into a table, I have a nice phone case on it too, also PC's refuse to even acknowledge that I plug it into the USB Port even if I install the drivers. Unless I go into Recovery or Download mode.
Now two weeks later I have to spend a 200 deductible to get a replacement phone and then see if I swap the replacement to lease another phone.
Samsung really botched this one. Took away the battery, the sd card, the mhl connection. Battery life isn't that amazing. All glass which is easy to break. S pen that will pop out if phone is dropped. They need to go back to how the note 4 was made.

Note 5 vs LG V10

I'm close to upgrading and undecided between these 2 devices. I'm currently on a Note 3. I would be limited to the 32 gb Note 5 due to cost. Without removable storage that's not much. The V10 has several features gone from the Note 5, like IR blaster, removable storage and removable battwry, but a slower processor. Any input to help me decide?
V10 is too big for me. I looked at one the other day and hated it in hand. But that is obviously a subjective thing.
Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
Size doesn't bother me. And, both are running some good promotional gifts. V10 bought by 11-15 gets a 2nd battery, battery charger and 200gb micro sd.
The V10 doesn't have a notification light if that's important to you
Costco is also offering a $250 Costco card if you purchase a Note 5 and Samsung is giving you wireless charging plate, external battery/charger and really good headphones if you register for Samsung Pay. Along with the $300 Verizon is giving me for trading in a Blu smartphone I'm making out like a bandit

If I were in your situation with the storage I would go for the V10. The LG promo looks like it's something you need too. My friend has the V10 and loves it. I'm very happy with my Note 5 but I have the 64 gig model. As for the battery mine lasts plenty long for my use but that's me.
That's the funny part, I don't need 264gb of storage, the 64 will be enough, and I already have a 64gb card I can put in. If I do get the LG I'll probably sell the 200gb card.
Get a droid turbo 2 then.

Lg free 24" TV at best buy this week. If there were an easy way to do it I'd return the Note 5 and get the v10 in a heart beat.
V10 is ugly however...

I disagree. Have you seen the V10 in person? I think its the nicest Android phone I've seen in a while. The colors of the phones both look great. Its more like gun metal for the dark one and the white and gold looks really good too. LG made an awesome phone. I wish it was out before I bought the Note 5 =/.
I played with a V10 in store for 30+ minutes right after launch. I hated it. Way too big, felt horrible in hand.
So instead I picked up a droid turbo 2 for my other phone instead. Still ugly, but the size and battery are both better.
I don't get the V10 at all. But each to their own.

S Pen

Hi,
I dropped my phone from about 4 feet onto carpet, the phone was in a Spigen Hybrid case and survived the fall with no damage. The "S Pen" though decided to fly out and break exactly where that line in after the "Samsung" logo...
It probably fell at that exact right angle to fly off but man it is frustrating that I'll have to pay 50$ for a replacement pen...
Are there good alternatives to the "official" S-Pen?
Nope, sorry... if you want the bluetooth functions, it's the only one of its kind, supercapacitor and all...
Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
At least in EU the price is around 25euro, so it's not that bad.
I strongly suggest you buy a replacement from their official store online. Lot of bad replicas out there. I've lost an S-Pen before and I bought one from Samsung directly. No regrets.

Yes go for an official replacement I broke my Note 8 s-pen on week before trading it in for the Note 9 ... 3 different pens from Amazon were fake nibs couldn't be replaced

Even worse, the fake pens in general do not provide pressure sensitivity.. This is one product that you definitely do not want to be fake...

If you dont mind carrying an extra, try the official Tab3 spen from Samsung. I love it and use it all the time. Leaving the always detect spen feature on hasn't changed my battery life either.

Hey, I actually have the same one that I use when I'm at home. The bigger size makes for easier long-term use when I'm playing a game.
For some reason I feel note 9 S-pen is too fragile and will easily break when i'm trying to find the damn button to mostly erase notes as it's placed little below center at weak breakable point.
It's only $30 on Samsung.com

Assuming it's ok to share items for sale here???

And then broke my Pixel-C screen before I could install it
The seller is in China and has reduced his price to $28. I paid $35 for mine.
I'll sell if for $25 including shipping to any location in the US. Pls let me know if you're interested.

Like I said in your thread, the hardest and sketchiest part is getting the screen off, that job is already half done for you. The actual connectors inside the device are pretty easy to deal with if you've ever repaired a tablet/phone.

I know Samsung is having some decent deals on their tablets. The Galaxy Tab S6 Lite is available for a decent price if you are able to trade in a newish phone, or tablet, but even without the trade-in its still at somewhat reasonable price for performance.
I did not want an iPad or a Samsung tablet so I went for a Pixel C, I dont regret the decision but I do wish there was something else Android. I dont like the idea of either an expensive Samsung that probably will be difficult or impossible to install another rom on, or some complete trash no name from Amazon.

After researching around theres not to many options or companies making tablets seems the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite and the Galaxy Tab S5e are the only 2 with rom or LineageOS support that I can find. The S5e seems to be a bit more powerful offering a 6mb ram version and has official LineageOS support the Tab S6 Lite is the cheaper budget tablet but offers the pen and offering only Unofficial LineageOS.
I'd love to be able to upgrade and get the new Galaxy Tab S7 or S7+ the top of the line tablets out now but no rom support out at all from what I see ?
The Pixel C is a bit old release date was 2015 I could just buy another one super cheap on ebay but think maybe its time to get something newer at this point?
Any one have any other suggestions ?
