[MOD] Super Debloat Tool for SM-T337A (AT&T) - Galaxy Tab 4 Themes and Apps

I created this zip to debloat and speed up the Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 from AT&T. This thing comes packed with so much bloat it bogs it down. I have it set up, so it removes all AT&T bloat, and a lot of Samsung apps that i don't use. It also removes a great deal of google related apps that can be downloaded from the play store if desired. If you are worried about what is being removed, feel free to open the zip in your favourite file browser, find the updater-script and comment out (#) any lines with apps you would like to keep.
I have also added a line to the script to remove the annoying sounds on bootup.
Of course, you flash this zip at your own risk. It is up to you to be cautious and take the appropriate steps to backup before you flash. The app Flashfire mentioned below, can backup your whole system much like CWM or TWRP recoveries do. I would recommend doing this in case anything goes wrong.
Flashing Method: Flashfire is a fantastic app made by Chainfire that can be used to flash zip files like you would on a custom recovery. You obviously need to be rooted to use this app.
Just google Flashfire and sign up for the Flashfire program with your google account, then follow the links to download from play store.
1. Press the plus button, and press Flash Zip or OTA
2. find the debloat tool zip file and select it.
3. leave auto-mount unchecked and press the tick button.
4. Press the flash button, then OK.
The app will go through a loading process then flash my zip file. All done, you have been debloated.

Maybe I'm a little naive, but I just told the script to remove the apk and the odex files. I didn't think there was anything more to it than that. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

Your right, it's a simple script that i attempted to adapt to my T330NU with a little modification..
The script is in the Update.script, you can open it in Notepad++
Both scripts failed on my device, and I made very little change to the original script..

That's strange that it failed on your device, what was the error?

It just gave me a generic install failure...it did not give me an error code..

No error here. However the zip doesn't delete anything for me. Your script however did help me find the location for that annoying @as power on sound to delete. Thanks

Why not just use titanium backup and/or a root file explorer to debloat?
It was an honest question, not trying to be insolent

Now that makes sense, however in a Odexed system, removing apps through Titanium backup would cause the device to brick..
I do however Freeze those apps instead..

When I flash a rom, I can simply flash my zip after it and I have a debloated rom. I used to use titanium to freeze and uninstall things. But when it gets to having to uninstall apps one at a time after constant flashing of roms, I just wanted a fast simple solution. I'm only sharing a method I use to make things easier for me. This zip takes less than 1 second once it's activated.

Whenever I launch Flashfire, it flickers for a second and then nothing. Before I rooted my Tab I was able to get Flashfire to launch but it would give me an error saying my phone was not rooted. Any ideas?

Same thing here. it seems FlashFire doesn't work on the rooted Tab 8 ATT model SM-T337A. Very weird. Must be something simple I am over looking. it makes no sense. :silly:

Strange, out used to work whenever I made this zip. Maybe,.. It's been updated and in turn had lost tab support. Try looking for a flashfire apk from a month or so back

I used the first release I got 6 months ago. Still no go. Frowns.

So if I flash this zip, I won't be able to use my tablet for printing anymore..?? I noticed the printing.apk is one of the apk's removed..

didnt work for me either...

Read carefully the 1st post, it shows how to prevent to debloating apps you want to use.
Now, a question: is it possible to adapt this script to a t235 LTE?

For some reason Flashfire is not working on my tablet (SM-T337A). It tells me that my device is not rooted, even though i have rooted the tablet with KingRoot and Root Checker Pro tells me that my tablet IS rooted.
But, i was able to remove all the apps using your list by using Titanium Backup.

I tried both I like the Touchwiz4 on the debloated but miss apps like Buddies Now and and the feeds and updates widgets. Is there wasy to get those on the debloated >?
Or Get touchwiz 4 on bloat then i can i guess i can just get rid of the bloat i dont want.
Any suggestions
If there are things in the bloat you want, the best thing to do right now is to install the bloat and use Titanium to freeze out what you don't want.

Nitro's Eclipse GB thread has download links for removed stock apps like that in the OP, I think you just need to extract them from the .zips and put in /system/app with root explorer then install

The easiest way, at least for me, to get an app into /system/app is to use Root Explorer to copy the apk into /system/app.
To do this:
-In Root Explorer, copy the apk file you want to put in /system/app
-Navigate to the /system/app directory
-Tap the Mount R/W button on the top right
-Tap Paste
-Scroll down to the pasted apk, long press on it and select Permissions (you'll see 9 check boxes when you do this)
-Check the Read and Write buttons for User, and only the Read boxes next to Group and Others, then tap OK (once you're done, the read/write permissions under the app name should be the same as all the other apps listed (rw-r--r--))
-Reboot.
edit: Super Manager is a free app that can do this as well

it is a paid app from the market, 4 bucks I think... but what it does is well worth it, and if you don't want to or can't pay there is Super Manager (a free app) that will do basically the same thing but looks pretty different UI wise

it should be there, you may need to reboot the phone for it to show up
also it should be an .apk and you can mount as r/w first so it'll let you put it there

Basically all i want to do is get touchwiz 4 on the bloated verison of ep1w for seome reason beyond me for some reason nothing i do allows me to copy the file into the system app i checked permissions as well it says it copies and then i go into the system app folder press paste and nothing appears even after rebooting phone anyone have any idea at all
thanks
Ok so it says not enough space to paste the file in system/app
ok so i got TW4 on there but now when i try to use the widgets like buddies and weatherclock etc says problem with them loading hmm anyone know how to fix that actuall it says Problem loading widget
Bloated/Debloated
Ok,
This is getting a tad frustrating. I been playing around with both debloated and bloated trying to customize what I want and what I dont want. I Finally figured out how to use Root Explorer and I still can not get certain widgets to work together.
Im trying to get TW4 with the Bloated Widgets , Buddies Now, Feeds & Updates, & Weatherbug Clock. If I installed TW4 on the system/app and then try to load the Widgets they will not load properly. That is on Bloated
I tried to install the the APK's or place them in system/app on Deblaoted and that didnt work either. Is there something Im doing wrong here.
Any help advise is greatly appericated

DISREGARD. I found talkback.apk.... If anyone else needs it, its here:
http://code.google.com/p/eyes-free/downloads/detail?name=talkback-v3.0.2.apk
>>Well, the download worked but I apparently deleted more apks than I thought. Rookie Mistake. I need talkback.apk as well!!! Can you/someone post it?
>>The problem I am having (and others are too) is that I am not sure which I deleted (it should be a very small number) because I am not sure what *should* be there... Next time I will only freeze them and Titanium back them up so I dont have to go through this hell.
I know other people have this same issue. I wonder if we should just create a zip of all the /system/app files that everyone can use to restore their deleted system/apps rather than one by one? If someone posts it, I'll get it mirrored...
SUCCESS! After a failed OTA attempt because I deleted some system apps, I was able to manually initiate an 'OTA' and after 7 failed update attempts, I'm now on JB and feeling buttery.
If someone needs help with how to manually 'OTA' using the OTA download file, message me and i'll give you a hand. I pieced to together info from a few different threads and it worked.
So after reading this thread I am struggling with the value of rooting without unlocking the bootloader on this device. I have rooted all my phones for years, but also was able to flash custom roms without unlocking the bootloader. It appears that's not an option here.
Since I just returned my first TF300T for an exchange due to a bad touch screen, I am not ready to unlock yet. So I rooted just prior to taking the JB OTA. But what did I gain? If I can't make any system changes (which is why you root) without losing OTA, and I can't flash ROM's which is the only way to get updates if I lose OTA, then help me please.
My main goal of rooting without unlocking was to remove a bunch of apps that I can't stand, install AdFree (got that benefit), and maybe tweak the build.prop. Oh and to get Titanium Backup, but now I read somewhere installing BusyBox can goof up OTA's also.
Am I missing something? Can someone set me straight?

Nah, I think you missed something. I have root and a LOCKED bootloader. I do that for warranty reasons. I have full root and can do what I want. The caveat is that if you monkey too much with the asus image, you hose the OTA (which i was able to get working again manually). The lesson I learned is BACKUP ANY SYSTEM BLOATWARE THAT YOU REMOVE. I am still gonig to remove them now that I upgraded to JB but i'll make sure I backup first.

I basically did this:
1) Found the correct OTA file. Someone posted it here for my US MODEL. If your WW or JP or something else, you'll need a different file.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1840397&page=11
2) I downloaded that file, named it dlpkgfile and put it in /cache/ (I also kept a copy in /sdcard so I can simply recopy it if/when it failed to update because of some missing app or something again)
3) I created a file called 'command' and put it in /cache/recovery with the contents of that file being as follows(without quotes): "--update_package=/cache/dlpkgfile". (I also kept a copy in /sdcard so I can simply recopy it if/when it failed to update because of some missing app or something again)
4) Now just run the update. To do this, make sure you do all your prep work (Voodoo OTA root keeper, supersu binary installed and run at least once, all original system apps in place. yada yada yada. To run the update shut down your tf300. and then start it holding the POWER and VOLUME DOWN. Keep holding it until you see writing appear. when the writing appears release and press VOLUME UP within 5 seconds of those words appearing.
5) you'll see the normal asus upgrade spin up.... and either complete or fail. If it fails, check your log file in /cache/recovery and see WHY it failed. Fix why it failed, and restart from step 1.

Yes... then I'm freezing them.
Why freeze instead of un install?
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk 2
If they are frozen, i know what is there before the next ota... and i can just reenable. Uninstall/reinstall would work too but just make sure you remember what to reinstall. Fact is that a locked boot loader makes us be more careful....

Anyv proven working methods for integrating updates for system apps?

It seems that TB is good for integrating most updates but on a few important ones using Google services it seems to break the device.
What has everyone else done to integrate updates to save on space?

Im guessing the procedure stays the same for most other apps? Except some get renamed and go in system/app?
Also what about apps with an odex file? Just move the app/apk the odex files doesn't get touched does it?

the apps downloaded from play store or any other sites are always deodexed so if ur rom is odexed then delete the odex file u want to move apk of and then move apk ....like if u want to move prebuildgmscore.apk in odexed rom then 1st delete its .odex file in system/app and then move apk and set permissions and reboot and thanks

Does anyone have the OneTouch Stream app?

I dont know if I uninstalled it or it just didnt come with the phone?! But three months ago at the mobile congress in Barcelona they showed the app couple of times, its like Google Now
I'm guessing they dropped it from the phone prior to the launch. Searched the Google Play store and didn't find it either
It's on my phone. You access it by swiping to the left past the first workspace, à la Google Now Launcher.

I've got nothing like that on my phone...and it's not in the list of apps either....is there an apk you can post? You can backup the apk using es file explorer for example.
I'll take a look. Where are those apks usually?
---------- Post added at 04:09 AM ---------- Previous post was at 03:50 AM ----------
Can't seem to find anything like "*stream*.apk" anywhere I have access to...
Alos, seeing your post in the "when do we get root" thread, swiftkey came pre-installed on my phone.
Apparently they customize the apps depending on which region you buy it in.

If you install "es file explorer" which is a free app you can use it to backup your app apk's to a folder on internal storage which you can then upload.

Judging from the news sources in the screenshot, it looks like it could be in the international version only?
I'm in France, so yeah, it could be only in some regional versions.
As for the apk, I couldn't find it even with "es file explorer"...

You went into the backup apps section of es file explorer where it shows icons of all the apps or were you still navigating the internal storage? Even if it's a system app it should appear in the list (although you might check settings to see if system apps are hidden). It's possible it's named something funky.
I was in the backup section. I didn't see anything to show system apps (neither on the page or in the settings)
I also checked with the adb shell (which is why I asked where such apps usually are).

In adb shell they'd be in /system/app. In es file explorer it default to opening to "user apps"...if you click on that pull down it gives you several choices..the one right after user apps" is "system apps".

I'm pretty sure I checked /system/app in adb. I'll check again and also post the output of 'ls /system/app' in case I miss something. It'll have to wait a bit though because I forgot my phone today.
I didn't see the pulldown in es file explorer...

Top of the screen says "User apps"...click on it and the other choices will appear. You can tell it's a pulldown because to the rigth of it is a shaded area. I think you'll have more success with es file explorer than /system/app as it may be named anything but es file explorer will show you a more descriptive name than the filename..
It backs it up to a folder named "Backups" on your internal storage.

You'd REALLY be better off doing this in es file explorer however our system app's matched 100% which means it might be in /data/app if they included it where the user could uninstall it if they didn't want it...however you'll also find any apps you added yourself there and obviously we will have different "favorite apps".

I DID it in the Es explorer app, but I didn't find it. And instead of sending 10 or 20 screenshots of es explorer, I sent the result of ls because I figured it was easier this way.
Could the stream app be included in the launcher maybe?

It's possible although I would expect it to be included as a standalone app in /data/app like the other apps like facetune that can be uninstalled.
