Whereabouts on Hotspot/Native Wifi Tether Mod for Sprint Samsung Galaxy S6 - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge

I've been looking and looking and was just wondering if anyone has come across a hotspot mod or hack for the Spring S6 varient.
This service is like a must have for me, and I'd bet a few others could use and benefite from this ( if it has been released, or even in the work in progress)

Look in the note 4 forum - there's a guide there that works and is super easy.

The guide in the Note 4 forum worked for me. First, I used the CF Auto Root method to root my phone. Next, I downloaded and installed the latest idoneapps' Galaxy Tools apk (GTv3.1.5.apk.) I first tried the simple method that worked on my GS5 - just click the "Enable Native Hotspot" button and reboot. Unfortunately, that seemed to break my 4G data - I think it has something to do with the APNs being locked. I went back to the GT application and (after reading through the instruction manual) changed the text in the sales_code box from SPR to XAS and hit the "set" button. I rebooted again and now my 4G was working. As a side benefit, APNs are now unlocked. Went back to the GT app and clicked the Enable Native Hotspot button and rebooted. Native hotspot is working fine for me on 3G and 4G. So, if you're having issues, check out that sales_code box.

Instructions for root - and all necessary files - are in the thread here, but there really isn't much to it - install the drivers, run Odin, select the md5 file, put phone in download mode, connect phone to computer, click Start, wait a few seconds for it to finish, disconnect phone from computer, reboot. Less than 5 minutes. The thread also has the link for the stock recovery that is installed the same way and is supposed to improve battery life. I didn't have a problem with battery, but I installed it anyways. You can read the thread for more information and detailed instructions.
For the hot spot, refer to the Galaxy Tools thread on the note forum here.
The sales_code box is the second box on the right. Just tap it as you would any text box you want to type in. The keyboard comes up, delete the text that is there (SPR) and enter XAS. Click the Set button next to it. Reboot. I'll attach a screen shot so you can see what the app looks like once the change has been made.

I posted a link to that in another thread here and have been using it since day one. Don't change any settings and just enable hotspot that's it. Have you done any updates? I haven't so I'm still on the original software which may be why but I didn't change any other settings which could be your problem.

My phone performed a software update within minutes of me first setting it up - it booted in to recovery and everything. I hadn't installed the root package or Galaxy Tools app yet, so can't say if the update is why I couldn't enable the hot spot with a single click. It would have been the easiest way to go, so I'd suggest that anyone give that method a try first. If it doesn't work, then just make sales_code change and try again.

This method ended up working out for me.
Im a sprint varient fully rooted with the 920t software, and having no issues with the deep sleep battery drain. But i thing i started to notice even with and without the sales_code change is that with some apps (i.e. snapchat). I cant send nor log in to unless i perfrom a info reset code (##72786#) but while doing this. It relocks the apns and disables the hotspot mod.
Any help with this is greatfully apreciated you guys. And also. Thanks again!!!

thanks again

Wish I had something useful to contribute, but I'm not having any issues - Snapchat is working fine. Attached is my current software version - as I mentioned, it did force an update the first time it booted up. Maybe pick an app you're having issues with, clear its cache, uninstall and then reinstall it to see if the problem persists.

sorry for the late reply
But i did get to figure it out. The problem was the "sales_code"
I just ad to leave it stock and just let the phone read everything correcrly.
Guys thanks again. Honestly
And also.... have any of ya had the screen rotation problrm???

I have that rotation issue. It's the damn adaptive charger. The wireless charger never has that issue. It was fixed in a later update supposedly but I had to get my original phone replaced.

I have a Sprint Galaxy S6 5.02 (G920PVPU1AOCF ) rooted with pingpong.
I used GTv3.1.5 then updated to 3.1.8, just enabled native hotspot and nothing else.
Working with no problem.

No root necessary...all you need is your MSL. Easiest way to obtain MSL is by calling Sprint. Once obtained, in the dialer enter ##3282#, hit edit, enter MSL, hit APN Settings. On APN2 EHRPD internet tap on the settings. On APN type it shows default, mms. Edit so that it shows default, mms, dun and then hit ok, up top hit More and hit save. Hit back and tap on APN2 LTE internet settings wheel and do the same...APN type should be default, mms, dun. On More hit save then reboot the phone.
That's it...turn on native hotspot and it should work!
Hope this helps!!

Thanks for the help on changing the Sales_code Text from SPR to XAS. It worked well for me after the reboot. I have I've spent almost 5 hours of my morning trying to find out my MSL with countless readers that didn't work. This method you describe did the trick. :good:

Doesn't work on my sprint s6. Sprint gave me the msl code but there is no APN option under the EDIT menu. I can only see APN under VIEW and it's greyed out, cannot be changed

[Solved] Flash EVO back to Sprint from Cricket/MetroPCS!

My roommate bought an EVO 4G off Craigslist that was pre-flashed to MetroPCS. It had a clean ESN, so I tried to have it activated. I finally got voice and text to work, but no data. After searching the web, visiting flashing stores, and spending hours on the phone with Sprint's so called "Technical Support" over the last week, I finally figured it out...
This is my first tutorial, so bare with me. And I apologize if this is in the wrong forum, it seemed most appropriate. I performed all this in Windows 7 x64.
First you need some software-
1. QPST - http://www.mediafire.com/?m4s81a4zsdbmhen
2. HTC Diag phone drivers - http://www.mediafire.com/?631456zwxi09hh2
3. PRL File 60650 - http://www.corolada.com/prl/
4. I'm not sure if you need ADB installed, but I already did.
5. You will also need to know your MSL. It will most likely be 000000 if your phone is coming from Cricket or MetroPCS.
Now that we have those, we can get to work.
6. Connect your phone via USB and type in ##3424#, your phone should now be in Diag mode. Make sure USB Debugging is ENABLED!
7. Open your device manager in Windows and right click the unknown device "HTC DIAG", Select Update driver.
8. Select Browse my computer for driver. Click select device from list, Click next, Then click "Have Disk" and point to the appropriate HTC Diag driver folder you downloaded.
9. You now should have HTC Modem installed correctly. Right click on it and go to Properties, Then click on the modem tab. Find your port number eg. COM1, COM2, etc.
10. Open up QPST Configuration, Click the PORTS tab. On the bottom right click add port. Add the port you just found from the step above, and hit Enable.
11. Go back to the active phones tab, double click your phone.
12. On the bottom click read from phone. Then save it for a backup.
13. Click on Roaming tab. Find the PRL box, click browse and add your 60650 PRL file you downloaded.
14. Go back to the CDMA tab. Under phone number click the Class 1 box. Enter your phone number (xxx-xxx-xxxx) minus dashes in the box next to Class 1.
15. Click write to phone. Hard parts over!
16. Once that finishes, unplug and reboot your phone.
17. Go to Settings>Update Software>Update PRL then reboot again.
17. Once its back up go into your dialer. Punch in ##3282#. Hit Edit Mode. The password is your MSL.
18. Once in goto Data Profile. Hit Menu then hit RESET.
19. Your phone should now reboot and be able to activate on Sprints network!
I already did this for my roommate, so I am writing this out of memory. I wanted to post pictures but I would have to take CM7 off my phone and redo all of it... grrrr.
Again, this is my first guide so i might have missed something. But I hope not. So many people have helped me here on XDA, so this is my contribution to the community. I hope this helps some people.
I did this to a hero. I believe I just cleared all the ##data stuff and pep update manually.
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
I tried that to. But the only way to make it work was to flash the new PRL file. Neither Sprint or a Cricket flashing place could fix it. Which I thought was pretty stupid.
Another quick way of doing it.
Load Stock RUU.
This will rewrite PRL, NV items etc back as it rewrites the radio wich controls these.
Once done ##RTN# need MSL to use this, but this will help as well. and your done.
This is handy to have, and even better to have a few different ways to do it.

Well if for some reason it didn't flash, then "update PRL" wont work cause its not looking for sprints PRL. Try to see what PRL is loaded on the phone, then I can probably help a little better.

That's the PRI, not PRL. The PRL will be a five digit number. The latest Sprint PRL is 60675.
yeah thats what i figured, didnt know if that was a hex abbreviation with sprint's software for the prl or what... waiting for him to text me back...
i am pretty sure when i waited for him to activate the phone it showed a 3g icon when voice and text went active.. you sure if the prl is wrong everything else would work except data/mms/marketplace? thanks
the prl is = 60675

Well you have a Sprint PRL. Did the phone go through the Hands Free Activation when you tried to activate it? If you see a 3G symbol then all should be good. You could have him call Sprint and tell them data isn't working and you need to re-activate it...
well we had to type in a diag code then hit update and then it activated, not OTA to get talk and text going... he said he spent a hour at the sprint store today and they couldnt solve it
You could try my guide again, from step 17.
i asked the guy via text to do the guide through 17 to end, he says they tried that at the sprint store... without luck... i guess i can try it tomorrow when the phones in my hands unless anyone else has any other ideas....
what i did was followed this guide after flashing a oem RUU back to the phone
"RUU_Supersonic_1.47.651.1_Radio_2.05.00.06.10_release_CL195459"

How To Root G935P Bootloader 4 PJ2 And PK1

Thread temporarily closed
This should enable root and still retain data and calls.
As a solution for lag I recommend lspeed with Govtuner, Kernel auditor, and Nova launcher.
Credit for this method goes to @vegoja

Package Disabler Pro or similar disabler Here
Use Package Disabler Pro to disable the following packages.
samsung dm phone interface

Next Odin The G935A Zip Eng Boot
Power off your device and boot into download/bootloader mode by pressing and holding the volume down, home, and the power button. Press volume up to get into bootloader.
Open PrinceComsy odin and flash the engineer boot.img by clicking AP and navigating to the file for your model. Click start and your device should reboot by itself.
Enable developer options by going to Settings>About Device and tapping Build Number till it shows Developer mode has been turned on. You will now have Developer options under the settings menu.
Enable USB debugging in the Developer options settings.
INSTALLING ROOT ACCESS:
Make sure that you have ADB installed.
Unzip the SuperSU zip file into a folder(For me C:\rootS7 )
Connect your device and navigate to the file location using adb.
Type root.bat and the process will begin. Be patient, there are some pauses.
Once finished your phone will reboot.
You will also need to do the following:
Download S7_or_S7Edge_Fixes_V15.zipto your internal or external storage and install install FlashFire from the playstore.
Open FlashFire and let it acquire root access. Click the + button at the bottom right corner then click on Flash ZIP or OTA. Navigate and select the S7_or_S7Edge_Fixes_V15.zip. file. Leave the options alone and click the check in the top right. Scroll down to the bottom and click flash. Your phone will reboot and flash the zip. This can take a while.
Go to Settings>Lock screen and security>Other security settings>Security policy updates and turn off "Automatic updates" and "Wi-Fi only". Reboot. This seems to be the culprit of the 7 day soft brick.
Open back up Package Disabler Pro and search for "software update". Disable both packages (com.sec.android.soagent and com.wssyncmldm).
You will need to set your APN configuration manually
Add APN2 EHRPD internet using the following, but replace Bearer with eHRPD
APN2 LTE internet
APN n.ispn
MMSC http://mms.sprintpcs.com
Multimedia message proxy 68.28.31.7
Multimedia message port 80
MCC 310
MNC 120
APN type default,mms,dun
APN protocol IPv4/IPv6
APN roaming protocol IPv4/IPv6
Bearer LTE
I may add more if I forgot something........Enjoy!
This may work on Nougat, someone try it and let me know.
I will try it later I'll need to flash sprint fw again since I'm on unlocked firmware and we haven't received the 7.0 update yet

Hello! So I'm currently trying to Root my S7 Edge that on PK1 (Sprint). I dont seem to be able to boot into the .tar file. Every time I do try and boot into it I land at the LTE Splashscreen and I have the vibrating (1 vibration, wait, 3 vibrations, wait, repeat) I've been able to go back to the stock firmware (G935PVPS4APK1_SPT4APK1_SPR_Sprint_USA_6.0.1) to get basic use of my phone but of course without Root access. Ive tried using other .Tar files but to no luck. I've disabled all the packages and even more. I wonder if you guys have any possible information to why I cant boot to a rooted .tar img.
-Thanks, Zoruda.
I was able to root, but unable to save the APNs
Nice job Soop! Im on latest unlocked firmware awaiting sammy to roll out the Noug. Hopefully that happens soon. I was using it on my XT1254 and it rocked!

SM-G955U1. XAA version. Bootloop problem, any help?

MY BAD, PLEASE MOVE THIS TO THE CORRECT SECTION. I'M REALLY SORRY.
Hello!, my mother bought this phone for her in the US and from day 0 it has been having problems. She couldn't use wifi or bluetooth for example, and sometimes it just kept restarting till it worked again, but without any connectivity functions, except mobile data.
I tried to fix this updating the phone using Samsung Smart Switch to the last build (AQL1) but now the phone is stuck on the boot screen no matter what I do.
Tried flashing with Odin, it worked, but the phone is still on boot loop. I read somewhere in this forum that you can install an older version of the bootloader to take the phone out of this hell and I did it, using the build AQK2 bootloader but no luck, same problem.
Also, the phone doesn't have USB debugging enable nor OEM unlock either. I can access both recovery and download mode though.
At this point I'm out of ideas, can someone help me with this one?
Thanks in advanced.

Thanks for answering. Where I live there is not a single Samsung Service, only at like 1800km from here, that's why I'm trying to solve this by myself but seems that this is a hard one... I hope someone can help me to deal with this as it was a big investment :/
Thanks again!, if someone knows a way to help please tell me.

No I haven't, I will give a try soon through web chat.
I mean, this shouldn't be happening, it's a brand new phone, all over the internet are people with the same problems as me and looks like so far there is no solution.
Maybe it's a faulty phone/hardware? My knowledge is not enough in this matter.
See you!,
Federico.
I need a couple things from you
1. What model does it say on the back of the phone i understand you posted it in the header but please for safety sake .
2. Go into download mode for me so i can see what carrier it lists
3. Try wiping data cache in recovery

Thanks for answering!, here it goes:
1. It says SM-G955U1
2. Carrier: XAA
3. Done, still the same.
An update from my last post:
After a few bootloops the FRP screen showed up, as the phone can't use wifi yet I managed to access using mobile data and enabled the USB debugging, but after trying to enable wifi the phone froze and went on bootloop again, so still the same but with the USB debugging enabled. I'm currently on the build AQK2.
Thanks again, and I hope we can fix this.
Update 2:
I cleared the cache, after a few bootloops the phone actually boots (gets to the lock screen), and it restarts again while the message "Android is starting" is loading, so now it's a different type of bootloop I guess. It does the same even in safe mode.
I will turn it off for now.

4. you will see a file called DREAM2QLTE_USA_SINGLE.pit i want you to extract it to the folder you have Odin in if not quick search forums for it
5. Open odin and go to the the pit tab it will do a pop up just click ok and ignore
6. click the pit button and find the pit file that you extracted and select it

Sadly it didn't work. The phone is still loading till "android is starting" sign and then restarting again.
I will write you so you can help me through pm, could this be a faulty hardware?
I'd like to know the other solution too.
I will tell you all what todo as a last resort.
IF YOU CHOOSE TO DO THIS I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY IF YOUR DEVICE STOPS WORKING OR DOES NOT TURN ON!!!
Follow all previously said steps i outlined but when you go into the options tab select nand erase all also then flash device.

@fefin -Sorry to hear that you're having issues - But I'd like to clear one thing up - Your comment that this is an issue "all over the internet" sim isn't true... I don't know how many Millions of S8 / S8+ have been sold - But your post is the first that I've ever heard of anything like this... I concur with the recommendation that you call or Chat with Samsung Technical Support - Preferably before you find the phone completely unable to Boot into Download Mode - Get Samsung to help you - or you may risk voiding the warranty if Samsung determines that you are ultimately responsible for the state of the phone ??

Thanks for answering!, sorry for my late response.
Well, if you check samsung's official forum there are a few threads with 15+ pages of people complaining about wifi issues (https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/forums/v3_1/forumtopicpage/board-id/GS8QA/thread-id/862/page/1 and https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/forums/v3_1/forumtopicpage/board-id/GS8QA/thread-id/30601/page/1) about bootloop problems, (https://us.community.samsung.com/t5...id/GS8QA/thread-id/3920/highlight/true/page/1) also there is a post on another webpage talking about bootloops on this model and how to fix them (https://thedroidguy.com/2017/12/sol...p-issue-s8-turns-screen-remains-black-1079013).
I know it's not representative, as you said, millions of phones has been sold, but what I meant when I said "all over the internet" is that you can easily find people with this same problem. This shouldn't be happening, not on any phone even less on such an expensive phone.
I think the phone is officially dead, I took it to a well known local technician and even him couldn't fix it. My nearest official samsung service is 1600km away. On the other hand, my aunty got for herself an S8 and it's working perfect, so it's just bad luck for my mom I guess.
The phone had issues since she bought it (wifi and bluetooth didn't worked at all, but she is not really a tech person so she thought it was fine), the phone was working with some bootloops from time to time and after a while it fell from and got a little crack on the top but it didn't change the behavior of the phone, it was still ****ed up. That's the thing, because of the crack I'm pretty sure they won't take it back or even try to fix it (for free at least), they will say the problem is because of the fall. I'd been reading a lot about this and seems that I'm pretty screwed D:
I will sell the phone for parts. At least I will recover 60% of the initial investment.

If you have some 'proof' the problem existed, before the crack, and can prove when the crack occurred, or reasonable determinate approximation, small claims court will vindicate you, and Samsung will have to pay.
Sad to say would take a little time of yours to get them there, but it is an easy process, and with reasonable ability to determine/evidence those two things, a sure win.
But still a PITA.

I'm glad I saw this... definitely don't want to install the update if it breaks this. What method did you use to enable the hotspot? I'm wondering if it makes a difference.
Same problem
Yeah I'm having this issue as well, I can't add APNs or edit them either by adding dun. It's very annoying and I've had to switch to my old phone to be able to have my hotspot back.

I found another workaround. screencap / copy the settings in one of the APN settings and tap the 3 dots in top right.
Create a new APN and use the same setting on prior APN, but add dun settings.
Select the new APN you created with dun and it will work.

Do you mind sharing the exact steps you are using? I am still hesitant to update to Oreo unless I know for sure I can hack the hotspot.
The initial method I used was copy/paste of some APN settings via terminal/ssh of ADB.
Thank you!
Yeah I found that out the hard way last week.
But follow these steps
https://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...uired-t3671061
It got me back up and going on Oreo. I just got a new notification about a new update. It says it's a security update....very hesitant to go through worth it.
It's SQU2CRC5
Let me know if someone has any luck with the new one. ??

I think you mean this link: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-8/themes/mod-hotspot-bypass-root-msl-required-t3671061
This is what I used initially. As long as it works again after updating to Oreo, I will give it a shot. Thanks again!
It was in this thread
Hooking up to a computer and typing a gmfew commands into an adb shell. Confirmed working with first Oreo upadte push. Prior to that I just did the shorctut master to ltefunctionalitytest and edited the apn when ever it had been changed.

go to this link Use the (quick shortcut maker) app and follow the instruction
https://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-galaxy-s8/how-to/hotspot-workaround-oreo-updates-t3772311
This worked for me but only for 24 hours and that seems to be the case for a lot of people so if it happens to you here is the fix for that:
-disable Hotspot tether & mobile data
-now enable hotspot tether(wait until its fully turned on)
-now enable mobile data once hotspot tether is turned on
well has nobody tried this on the CRC5 update yet or has this been confirmed to work still... ??
Yes. Here is an image file from varoius forum posts to get this to work. You need to follow the steps twice, to edit each apn. Once you edit the first one successfully and go to edit the other, that on is grayed out.
Enjoy

I have been trying to root to see if through it I will solve Alcatel 7 tether problem. I am not able to use tether via the native hotspot and USB tethering app. Each time I turn on the switch I get the error message "Settings has stopped," and then the window closes. Easy Tether does not work either, even though I get a "connection established" status the app, yet no message or icon of connection on Linux distro Mint 18.

U can try to use pdanet for USB tethring. However it is not guaranteed because the app setting does not allow "dun" as apn type anymore. However,I did successfully use the pdanet wifi direct method to connect my Chromebook. It was successful but be aware of the "run proxy" fucntion needs to be avtivated. You can access through help section for the app. However. u have to keep the screen on because it will be killed after screen off for couple minutes. I did exclude it from battery optimization but no luck. If it is screen on it should be alright. I don't have the apn dun problem with my stylo 4 though..... maybe because my Alcatel 7 is still locked and stylo 4 is already unlocked. Hope this info helps.:good:

I figured out a way to add dun in apn type. Just add it and do not press save, directly press home button and then go back to apn settings and check, it should be automatically saved when u pressed the home button. Hope this helps.

nvmd got it and working
If anyone wants to get it root it just follow the instruction that Warlockguitarman has but with a few modifications to the commands
first make sure to back up with python mtk rf flash.bin and save it somewhere else cause its like 30GB
then do
"python mtk rl" out to get the boot.bin
to unlock the boot loader use
"python mtk da seccfg unlock"
then just follow the magisk app part to patch the boot.bin and make sure u save when u get it to the PC side to save it as
boot.img to make it easier and use this command
"python mtk w boot boot.img"
and ur done, super easy but a little time consuming for the most part
make sure to back up, back up back up, dont be lazy with it just in case
been looking for way for a long time since i got the phone around 2018 and this is the only way it worked
