Spigen Tough armour vs Slim Armour - Same Thing? - Galaxy S6 Accessories

This is for anyone looking to buy the Slim or Tough armour cases from Spigen. I bought both to review and noticed that they were almost the same. Protection wise there is almost no difference. The cutouts are different.

I too bought both, not knowing which I'd like.
I'm actually going to keep both. I really like the way each one feels and could see one used more over another at different times.
The Slim Armor feels great (very sleek) while offering good protection.
The Tough Armor feels a little more beefy, but still great.
They were already cheap on amazon, so might as well just have both!

Do these have the kickstand on the back? I hate the kickstand on the back personally, but I haven't seen a slim or tough armor without it for the galaxy s6.

They both have it on the back. There a little flimsy if you ask me. IF a kickstand is something you don't care about, then I recommend Verus cases.

I bought the tough armour for the Note 4 and had one for the S4. Both of them were way better quality than these two.

@blackout720 @h20wakebum I'm going to buy one of these soon, just a question, Do these cases make power and volume buttons hard to press or they are tactile?

One problem i found with Spigen is that it is easily scratched. I understand that it is cheap but still, ugh!

I have the tough armor, but what I don't like is the 2 sharp rectangular sides instead of smooth curved sides! I prefer Neo hybrid!

I came here searching the difference for both cases ? Someone said tough armour is beefy. So protection will be more right

I just checked at Spigen site and they say Tough armour case has EXTRA air cushion technology for all sides against the slim armour case which get at sides only. I guess tough armour case is more protective than just beefy

The tough armor makes it hard to press. The slim has much softer rubber so it's much easier to press (and you feel the click while on the tough armor it's like pressing rubber).

Spigen Tough Armor

I got my Spigen Tough Armor for the s5 on Tuesday, and it's by far my favorite case I've owned for any of my devices. Definitely prefer this to Lifeproof and Otterbox overall. You can find it on Amazon here.
It's slim, the buttons click easily, and the heart rate monitor and fingerprint reader work like a charm. Only issue is until you get used to it it is a bit difficult to get the charging cover open, but after a day or two of doing it it's pretty easy.
Says it's compatible with Spigen's glass screen protectors as well, I'll be getting one soon.
Thanks for the quick review and pictures!
Do you feel this case adds a lot of bulk to the phone?
According to the product page, the case adds approximately half a centimeter to every dimension. In the hand, it doesn't feel like your phone is any thicker due to the beveled edges.
I just received my Gunmetal Tough Armor case today & there's a good chance I'm going to like it more than the Otterbox I had on my previous phone.
I hate the fact that you can see the plastic bezel on most of the new cases for the S5. That's what I'm trying to cover up with the case!
How secure do you feel holding it? I was very surprised that the case felt very slippery with the hard plastic shell. Debating returning it or trying to spray plastidip to give it some grip.
Also ordered this case can't wait for it to arrive

just ordered an Electric blue one since thats the color phone i wanted but couldn't get. I originally bought a case from best buy which I'll keep till this one comes but I don't like the fact that it slides on from the top and bottom, those cases always F' up screen protectors...

how are you using the fingerprint sensor? which finger and position?
I wonder if it'll work with the wireless charging back cover....
For the ones who have the case, does the bottom plastic part (right below the home button) move around when using the fingerprint features? I have the spigen tpu case and the bottom part below the home button is too flexible.
I have a tough armour and yes it is. It's TPU and a bit thin so does "flex" when you use the finger print reader.

Just got this case today. LOVE the case. I feels comfortable. and im sure if i dropped it, it'd protect it just fine. Only problem, if you have slight bigger fingers, the heart monitor can be a bit difficult to use. But i'd still recommend this case to anyone. A must have
I got the Slim Tough in electric blue, love it. I thought the Tough looked slippery on the back, so I got the Slim Tough. I do like the Slim Tough look more though.
It was tough trying the Spigen case as I have used the Case-Mate tough case for my last three phones and loved it, but no regrets now.
Also works well with the Spigen Glas.tr screen protector.

SO i thought the heart monitor was hard to reach, turns out i was doing it wrong. As long as you just place your finder the spot, it works just fine. So this case is a 5 out of 5
I was looking at this case and the Luvvitt Ultra Armor. Bought the ultra armor. Very happy with it for $13. Either looks like an awesome choice.
anyone have a comparison of the tough armor vs. slim armor?? I like both and not sure which one to get.

I have both of them and much prefer the tough armor.
Forgive me, but my slim armor is at home, so i can't offer pictures until later. I disliked the way the slim armor gripped the front of the phone around the edges of the screen. The left and right sides encroached on the face of the phone about a mm more than the top/bottom. This meant that the bit of metal around the edge only showed at the top/bottom. It drove me batty. I like the feel of the tough armor more as well.

I bought this case before the release haven't got it yet, Looks nice. I got the incipio tough armor case in store on release day, kept the order for the spigen case in case its any better, but it sure does look nicer.
Got mine yesterday.
It's kind of nice yet I thing the power and sound button are now very hard to press.
Also it become complicated to open the usb cover (doable with a pen though)

[Q] Sony Xperia Z3 cases

Hi,
just bought a xperia z3. After my experiences with previous phones, I know how clumsy I am and how easily I damage my phones. This time I want to look after it.
I am after a very protective case but nothing too bulky. I once has a TPU gel case for my previous phone (Galaxy S5) and when I dropped it, despite being in the gel case the phone still suffered a dent. SO after such an experience, this time I definitely want something that can absorb shocks.
I have seen the TECH21 case for the Z3 and was wondering whether anyone can offer any feedback or reviews on it. I know about TECH21 and their brilliant D30 material which is best in industry at protecting phones. My main concern with it atm is I don't think it is the nicest looking case and I would have liked to get a case which preserves the look and shape of the sexy Z3.
XDA wont let me post a link of the case but if you type in "tech21 xperia z3" on Google and click on the 3rd link then you will see it.
If anyone can offer any feedback or alternative cases that fulfill my criteria.
Thanks!
I'm waiting for Spigen slim armor. It is sexy and provides double layered protection but maybe slightly bulky. I have it on my N5, it looks slick and I dropped my phone enough times over a year to cause dents and scratches all over the case but never cracked or shattered the screen. Also had a ZAGG Invisibleshield screen protector which still looks awesome.

my bad, i thought that you meant waiting as in waiting to arrive at your doorstep. There's a chinese rip-off that at least looks kinda good, but apparently is fragile. I'm a sucker for the slim armor as well, best phone case I've ever had

Whatever you do, do NOT buy Spigen ultra hybrid for Z3.
The buttons are so tight that just slightly tapping anywhere on the right edge results in both power and volume buttons being pressed down. In addition to that nightmare and consequently, you cannot power on or off the screen since the volume buttons are being pushed in as well. The ultra hybrid for Z3 is no good.

I wouldn't anyways. I'd rather have my USB port closed out than not being able to dock the phone without removing the case at night.
^ Pretty lucky I didn't get the spigen then.
I just got my z3 (from an s3) and was looking at spigen as I had spigen accessories for the s3 and had a relatively good run with it.
I ended up buying a Nilkin for the accessories. z3 stuff below:
http://www.nillkin.com/english/product.asp?bid=982&mid=2&sid=0&tid=0
Got the 9H tempered glass and the super frosted hard back cover case.
The tempered glass came with a back glass sheeting protector, but I found the hard cover case to be quite adequte. Slim enough to not be bulky, but has enough of an edge to give some level of protection if it were to fall on a flat surface. I was also considering getting the armor border cases but it seems like it'd add some bulk, plus the if it's too big it'll be hard to access the ports/plugs. Just waiting for my magnetic chargers to come in now...
I had a Tech21 case on my original Z. It was great.
Can't find one in the UK for my Z3 though. I'm using a Ringke Fusion clear case, which is good too.
I'd normally use a Casemate Tough, but I like showing off my copper Z3
Oh, and get a good 9h glass front. It's so much nicer than the one that comes on the phone. Less fingerprints too.

^ I think he meant that he's waiting for slim armor to be out for the z3.
I don't think Spigen will make a Slim Armour case. All the big manufacturers such as UAG, Trident and others seem to have skipped the Z3. I'm using the Incipio case which seems to be one of the best.

Thoughts on Spigen cases

I just placed an order for Spigen Neo Hybrid case for my HTC One m9. I was wondering if anyone has experiences with these cases on previous HTC One devices. Also any good recommendations for a tempered glass screen protector would be awesome.
I have the Spigen crystal clear Hybrid on my silver M9 and I love it , But I will be purchasing a more protective case .

I have the Spigen Neo Hybrid Case for my M9.
It fits perfectly and looks awesome on the phone.
it protects the whole back and the sides. In addition it is a bit thicker on the top side (display), so it protects the display too, if you lay down the phone upside down.

Could any owners of the neo hybrid chime in on the button stiffness of the case? I find that I'm accidentally hitting the power button pretty frequently without a case.

I have the Neo Hybrid and love the hell out of it. I have the gunmetal M9 with the gunmetal case
The buttons are a bit stiffer but I still find that I hit it anyways. The location will take some time getting used to as I'm coming from the M7. BY FAR, THE BEST CASE I'VE SEEN AND FELT ON A PHONE!
Any other questions, feel free....
I got Spigen Thin Fit off ebay uk for £6.99 + delivery. It fits well and helps stop you hitting the power button by accident when you pick it up.
I have the silver M8 but got the Gunmetal one. It looks pretty good. Small lip on the left and the right. Only good for small drops directly on the back, front and sides, but very minimal.

this case is awesome its bulky and not bulky at the sametime - in fact, this case is just slightly larger than their crystal clear series, and because of the fact that this phone is still only 5", with the slight bulkiness, it actually makes the phone larger in presentation; a very good thing, the metalized buttons has very very good feedback, its easy to press (once applied on correctly) - everything fits just right! even better than their crystal clear series. - i got the black n gold. looks amazing.
@METALLICAM - the reason why you're saying the outer metalized buttons are hard to press is probably because you do not have the outer ring and the rubber case fitted correctly (this took me a few mins to figure out) because when you slap on the ring around it, it feels and looks like its "tight on" but its actually not, simply hard press/pull from the top of the phone, you'll see that the ring starts to slide-in more into the rubber mounts, and do that with the bottom speaker aswell.
I got both the Spigen Neo Hybrid and Strong-Flex cases and love them both. The strong flex is pretty thin and durable and the neo hybrid is good looking and durable also.

A little over rated. No doubt they are built to look really cool, but as far as protection goes it's not the best. Also touch wood it doesn't happen to you, but if you have any problems with it, getting through to their returns department is terrible.
Other than the after sales care, their cases are okay, but would recommend trying other brands, there's plenty available at decent prices

Spigen cases for N6P military drop test graded too?

Noticed Spigen cases for iPhones are marketed as MIL-STD 810G-516.6 Military grade drop-tested, but not for Nexuses.
Example:
http://www.spigen.com/collections/iphone-6s-plus/products/iphone-6s-plus-case-ultra-hybrid-tech
http://www.spigen.com/collections/nexus-6p/products/nexus-6p-case-ultra-hybrid
Both are very similar in design and has air cushion technology etc. I'm assuming the nexus cases are just as durable but spigen hasn't gone the extra step to certify?
To be honest, I have no idea. Maybe Spigen didn´t certify these cases because the demand is quite low in comparison to cases for Apple devices ? Spigen cases are great though and offer a good value and protection for the money. It´s too bad that Spigen didn´t offer a tougher case like eg. a Slim Armor for the Nexus 6P. The Spigen Rugged Armor I have is great and quite slim in comparison to other TPU cases but in terms of protection I like bigger and bulkier cases like eg. the ones made from Otterbox. I use a modified Poetic Revolution Case for the Nexus 6P now and like this one even better
Well as far as I am aware... The speck candyshell are mil-810g tested even for the nexus6p.... For the spigen nothing is advertised for the cases... Plus its not as tough as speck cases so wouldn't believe as well

Just curious what makes the speck candyshell so good in terms of drop protection. It is recommended by many as the case to go for at $40. Looks like a thick case with some non-slip grips & certified. Doesn't look much different than those cheaper ebay cheapo cases in terms of design who knows they could also pass drop-test certified but don't bother paying for the test?
I'd imagine the design of the cases for the same mode l(e.g. Ultra Hybrid) are broadly the same.
As such I'm going to assume they are not "graded" as nobody has performed the necessary test.

I don't like the black or white models. Want mine boring and plain looking solid color if you know what I mean. You think the candyshell is more rugged than POETIC Revolution? Want something that can handle hiking and outdoor activities.
I don´t have Candyshell case but I own a Spigen Rugged Armor ( which is similar to the Spigen Ultra Hybrid in terms of dimensions ) and a Poetic Revolution. You can see a side by side comparison in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/accessories/mod-ultra-rugged-poetic-revolution-t3307492
I´m confident that the Poetic Revolution case is the stronger option in terms of protection

Poetic Revolution is more stronger for impacts.. but is also much more bulkier... i got both Poetic Affinity and Revolution.... i'd rather suggest affinity to revolution....
I'm considering the Affinity because I like the clear for this phone. I'm coming from a Moto X that was sporting a Supcase and was dropped many times. How would you rate the Affinity for protection and "dropability"?

I'm considering the Affinity because I like the clear for this phone. I'm coming from a Moto X that was sporting a Supcase and was dropped many times. How would you rate the Affinity for protection and "dropability"?

Learned something new today. MIL-STD 810G-516.6 is a shock test where a device is dropped 4ft on to concrete floor 26 times. If it survives without damage then it pass.

Best slim kickstand case?

I'm open to suggestions. It's getting annoying because it looks like most of the cases I've looked at mostly have fake/paid-for reviews, e.g this one—looks like it could be a good case but I don't think I'm going to patronize a company paying for fake reviews.

Thanks!
Also, I'm having a very hard time distinguishing between the Spigen Slim Armor and Spigen Tough Armor (both with kickstands. If anyone can tell a difference please let me know, they appear to have the same dimensions, drop rating, etc, although I don't see precise millimeter raised bezel descriptions for the slim armor. Given the prices I'd probably just get the tough armor if it's not actually any bigger.....

I think they are similar, but Tough armor is thicker than slim.

It is actually little different by 0.01 inch in thickness if you look closely. Should be around 0.25 milimeter. That is why it is called slim.

Oh dang you're right, sorry it was late when I was looking :highfive:.
So, a quarter millimeter thicker for close to half the price. Anyone have personal experience with slim v tough on this or other phones? Seems like an obvious choice *if* I go Spigen (and I'm still open to other options too).
Not me, both of them are still bulky to me.
So...any suggestions then?
I have the Obliq Skyline ordered from mobilefun canada but it's been delayed a week. I picked it over the Slim Armor due to colour (Went with the Silver to go with the Silver G5).
From the videos I've seen of other Obliq cases, it doesn't look bad at all but I'll have to wait until it's in my hand to really confirm how good of a case it is. The TPU material is gonna make or break this case.
If you go to Verizon they have for 1 the 25 bucks that's what I have it's the way to go has kickstand and off and a holster for carrying it on your belt

Thanks, I look forward to hearing your honest review!
Phone got here today and I realized I couldn't wait! Ended up getting the Tough Armor kickstand from Spigen, not as pretty as Obliq or the Thin Armor but I like cheap. We'll see how it goes!
