Petition to ask ZTE to unlock the bootloader of the ZTE Blade S6 - ZTE Blade S6 Questions & Answers

So we bought our lovely Blade S6, bang the bootloader is locked!
What does that mean?
No root. No xposed. No custom recovery. No custom ROMs.
You bought a car, and you want to drive it offroad. It's up to you. The manufacture can't force you to drive on a paved road. They may tell you that the warranty is void if you drive offroad, but still it's YOUR decision to decide where you drive.
That's the whole idea behind locked bootloaders!
If you agree, please sign the petition on this link:

Cheers.

Thanks guys, 40 supporters on day 1 is great.
I'd like to add to my previous post the following.
Root is major feature on Android. Here's what it allows you to do:
1- Adblock
2- Call Recording
3- Nandroid Backups (full device backup)
4- Remove unwanted system apps
5- Xposed (this is a world of features on it's own!)
Xposed alone will give u almost full control of your device in terms of theme-ing and features:
1- Youtube Adblock
2- Control of statusbar icons and positions etc...
3- Activate on-screen navigation menu (like Mi-Pop app, but this is a legit/fixed navigation menu)
4- Shortcut for killing foreground apps
5- Theme or change the style of recent apps screen
6- Change what the back/menu button do. Personally I like the menu button to act as a recent apps button (and long click for menu).
7-
8-
It will never end...
So this is why it's very important for us to get the bootloader unlocked !
Cheers.

I used the time to post on facebook to point them to the petitions:
https://www.change.org/p/zte-usa-and...zte-zmax-phone
http://forum.xda-developers.com/zte-...oader-t3062981
We should combine the force here instead of make it per phone why not speak in generell to open and unlock the bootloader for all the devices?
It makes no sense to devide since it affects all of us didn't it?

Signed?

Kids Mode is missing

For some reason my Tab 4 10.1 didn't have the homescreen/app drawer shortcut to download Kids Mode. Could someone share their Kids Mode apk?
Thanks!

A reset under General>backup /restore should bring it back. My tab booted a little differently from the first boot after I did a factory data reset. If you don't want to lose your setup I'm sure someone will post the apk but the fact you don't have it you should do a reset.

Check for a software update. The Kids Mode download appeared after I did an update check.
My 8.0 said it had an update shortly after I first set it up. The update preamble specifically mentioned Kids Mode being included. And now I have an icon in the app drawer for it.

I just got mine today and it didn't have the kids mode on it but as soon as I did the update that it told me I had, I had kids mode on the tablet. Now I have one question. What the heck is this supposed to do to your tablet? Is this something that you can set up for your kids and also protects your stuff from any accidental deletion? I just want to know before I decide to run this app. Don't want to mess up settings that I have set up on it right now by running this.
LTE Tab 4 models have Kids Mode removed
I spoke to Samsung Telecommunications US headquarters this week out of frustration of not having the Kids Mode App on our two new AT&T LTE Samsung Tab 4 devices and have confirmed that all LTE models have had the Kids Mode feature removed from their devices. And, the most frustrating thing is actually on Samsung's own website for the individual, specific LTE models which lists the Kids Mode feature as a key selling point. And yes, the first thing people say is: "Have you checked for the latest updates (Android & Samsung.) And, the answer is yes. I have confirmed this removal with Samsung and notified them that this is indeed a huge problem. Maybe not so much for me or for you who may thrive off all things tech, but for the grandparent or parent buying this for their child with the sole purpose of using this key selling feature to help protect their child. Their frustration and discomfort in trying to use what they've been sold and not being able to will only push them away from Samsung or other Android devices. It is a disservice to both the Samsung and Android names as well as to the customer. And it makes us maybe reflect on what we can learn from apple (which pains me to say): when they advertise a feature, it does work on their devices especially on the new ones and even more so on a product listed to have the feature. It's both disappointing and embarrassing to see as both a Samsung and Android supporter.
And one more thing that pains me as an AT&T employee, which I am but not in mobility, that must be said!.. Samsung and AT&T have thought of our kids protection and replaced the Kids Mode with another app. FAMIGO!.. which is a PAID subscription of $4.99 a month to protect your Child!! THINKING of this even more gets me so infuriated!! What an absolute disservice and embarrassment!!
So i have found a solution for the Tab 4 8" Users. on the 10.1" Device it should be not working because the Screen is bigger but i think there is an other way.
I have the Tab Active (T365) with the same specs as the Tab 4 8" and i missed the Kids Mode to.
So now we have two Solutions for Root Users and for Users without Root.
Access to the Samsung Kids Store have only Root Users or the T330NU User!!!! Users without Root can use the Kids Mode only with other Apps from the PlayStore or should be download Kids Games over the Samsung App Store (not the Kids App Store).
How-To Install Kids mode for Users without Root:
Download this KidsModeT330-T365.zip File
Extract ZIP and copy to your Tablet SD Card
now install ALL Apps at the normal Way (Filemanager and klick on each App to Install)
ignore some error Messages if they comes and realy install all Apps
now Reboot your Device
now Kids Mode must be work
How-To Install Kids mode for Users with Root:
Download and Install the SecKidsModeInstaller.apk
Make a Backup from your build.prop
Edit your build.prop (3 Points):
Code:
ro.product.model=[B]SM-T330NU[/B]
Code:
ro.product.name=[B]milletwifiue[/B]
Code:
ro.product.device=[B]milletwifiue[/B]
Save the buil.prop and set the Permissions (rw-/r--/r--), now Reboot your Device
After Reboot launch the KidsModeInstaller App and follow the Instructions
After Installed Process you can launch the Kids Mode and go into the Kids Store and download all Games you needed
If you are ready and finish you must be Reverse the Changes in the buil.prop . So delete the build.prop and copy / replace it with you Backup build.prop (set Permissions) and Reboot
On my rooted Tab Active LTE (SM-T365) this is working (Android 4.4.4).
YES!!!!!!!!

OMG, thank you so much. I've spent so much time looking for a tablet version of sammy kids mode and settled for an s4 or s5 variant that was crop all wrong and very awkward. I even tried flashing rom but no luck until this post. Im a rooted sm-p607 note 10.1 tmobile 4glte. The prop mod didn't work but installing the files manually did the trick, thank you.:good:
If anyone runs into this, check your Widgets before you go doing a full-on Factory Reset. I found a 1x1 Widget for Kids Mode hiding in here and saved a ton of time and patience. Hope this helps.

Confirmed 1x1 kid mode widget was there. Dragged to Home Screen then click and ask to download. This was on a T-230NU 7" which after flashing newer firmware then rerooting, kid mode did not show up.
does this give you the kids mode that is actually on the kids tab version. I bought a Samsung Tab A and it has a kids mode but now you need to pay for everything. The only way to get it free is if you bought the kids tab.

Root when Marshmallow is out?

So i was wondering, should i root my Xperia Z5 dual now with Unlocked BL method on Lollipop or should i wait until Marshmallow is coming out to Xperia devices and root with Marshmallow on board? suggestion anyone?
Is your bootloader already unlocked?
Sent from my Xperia z5 using Tapatalk
Nope not yet.. i dont want to void my warranty yet
Then u may as well wait
Sent from my Xperia z5 using Tapatalk
Never know someone might find a bug in marshmallow to allow locked bootloader root. Anything is possible

Ive unlocked my device's bootloaders, rooted them all.. And i can honestly say, i dont regret it at all. Ive debloated the phone completely, ive even removed core system apps and services that i dont need or use.. I removed everything related to nfc (the NFC chip is actually used as a tracking device and stuff). Im very pedantic when it comes to blocking anything with hidden permissions and blocking apps from having open unrestricted access to my files, location, info etc etc.. My firmware is. Very clean, to give you an idea of how much ram and storage space i freed up.. Before debloating my phone and cleaning out unnecessary system apps from my device.. The the system was using up anywhere from 2.2-2.7GB RAM... Thats extremely high considering thats more than 75% of your total ram..
After debloating my device..
System only uses 1.4-1.7GB RAM..
And to put the icing on the cake. The battery now lasts aaaaages even when playing games and doing a lot of heavy use., the phone barely even gets warm as well. Which is an added bonus.. When my phone is in sleep / doze state (screen off) my device has lastest up to almost 10hrs with only 1% battery left ... Loll
But if youre worried about voiding warranty, then just gotta be patient and wait for an exploited firmware with rootable system.
I suspect it wont be too long of a wait

Certainly
Removed The Following from device.. on a (Rooted Xperia Z5, Unlocked Bootloader)
----------------------
Browser (small app) --- (this app is so useless, it just doesn't belong)
Explore (Sony) ---- (Not interested)
Facebook ---- (I dont use facebook)
Linked in ---- (Dont use / need it)
Playstation App ---- (Dont need / use it)
Account Manager (Sony) ---- (Useless, Not needed)
Creative Effect --- (I Dont bother with camera effects and photo editing, i just take photos as they are)
Drive --- (Google, Again- I Dont need / use it.. cloud storage on google.. no thanks!)
File Commander ---(Don't like it) (I use ESFileExplorer instead)
Google Lyrics Extension --- (Like seriously, Wtf is the point of this useless app) its legit, useless. haha..)
Google Play Books ---(Dont need/use it.. pointless app, waste of space/ram)
Google Play Games --- (I dont sign in with my information to play games) (Problematic App, Just delete it) even after deleting it i play every game fine, without any problems.. (Safe to get rid of it)
Google Play Movies --- (AGAIN, unwanted bloatware, Who The. **** would even consider using this, pay to watch movies, HAHA yeah right!)
Google Play Music --- (Yet AGAIN, unwanted useless bloatware, when i can use Youtube/TubeMate instead)
Google Play Newsstand --- (GET OFF MY DEVICE, Extremely Useless bloatware AGAIN.) I hate anything google relation UNLESS it's needed (Play store, Play services, like thats fair enough)
Google+ ------(Hell no, GONE.. I dont need it and dont want it, To me it is considered BLOATWARE) most google related APPS also ask for unrestricted / Excluse access to your entire device.. Like wtf.. NO thanks!
Hangout ------(bye bye bloatware)
Movie Creator ------( Dont need / use it ) simple video recording is plenty for my use..
News & Weather ------( Don't Want it on my device, When i can simple check everywhere else with consuming ram / space) drains battery aswell.
Photos ------(Dont need it, WHy would i use it when I have an App called ALBUM that works good enough) (And I'm not in to the whole photo sharing/social crap that goes along with it.. (Bloatware in my eyes)
Playstation Video ------(Dont use / Need it)
*****ALSO, I removed the default theme Colors that i did not like/want.. I kept Dark & Red.. I deleted the rest though "Orange, Purple, Blue, Green, White" each one was 8MB .. (Dont need things on my device that i wont be using, Right?? ****
Socialife ------( Blah blah blah, Gone!!!)
Sound Photo ------(ahhh yeaaah--nahhhhh) useless to me.. Considered bloatware.
TalkBack ------( Gone )
Video------- (Unwanted Bloatware)
Weather Widget -------(No Thanks, As small as this app Appears to be) It is a god damn battery killer.. Thats A fact!!!! Location>
And that should pretty much be it for now, unless i have missed anything..
Hope that was enough info for you mate ..
Then,
A few others i removed, are a few pointless key modules as well (mainly camera related)
(Lips, sunshine etc) these modules are obvious to spot.. Their icons are of little smiley faces each module with a different color smiley face.. Get rid of all the ones you dont need / want..
Also remember to always restart your device when disabling / force stopping / deleting apps/services / modules / core services etc so that any remaining residual files are removed completely and the new (device spring clean) takes effect.
So restart once you have removed everything you dont want or need..
FYI, removing some of the bloatware resulted in reproducible 'random' restarts on LP.

TheTecXpert or any of the others, forgive me for my ignorance or stupidity lol, but rather new to playing with my phone, I have always rooted my Sony's mainly for custom roms to get extra options etc, but now looking to expand my horizons.
I'm not a complete newly to programming (have done my share 13 years ago) lol but also have a fairly I.T knowledgeable background.
Are you able to explain or advise or point to another thread that explains how you removed all the excess system apps etc (yes I have looked but usually at work with limited Time)
Hey man,
Don't worry about your warranty ! It's not a problem voiding it as soon as you know how to repair a bootloop or those sortr of things. It will (of course) won't void your technical warranty and, trust me, it worth it (see @TheTecXpert , he done a lot of great things )
Of course this is your choice to wait. It's a good solution too, but rooting is very cool on Android. Think twice
Hi cab13,
Z5 is already running mm, flashed it and now rooted and bl unlocked so not concerned about warranty. I have found it near impossible to brick these things lol, just not sure how to remove all the apps that TheTecXpert did, Wether it was done with programming or something as simple as root Explorer(if so what directory)

The simplest way that I went about removing all the excessive apps/bloatware was by using a program from the google play store called "System App Safe Remover" or "System App Uninstaller", anything that gives you direct access to ROOT SYSTEM APPS.. You can use ADB, for but for those not completely technically savvy in the "Command Shell" I would highly recommend not using ADB..
Anyway, Once you launch the APP (of your choice) , you will be in a menu with ALL APPS that you can remove.. they will be in categories and alphabetical order.. the App will specif things like "could remove", "should keep", "Key Module" etc etc...
From there you can just uninstall all the crap that is not need and anything else you dont want.. In an earlier post I have a long list of APPS and modules that I removed from my phone which gave me an OVERALL stable, clean, fast and Battery Life improvement on the device.. I'm happy with it.. And Warranty is never an Issue for me since i've always rooted ALL of my Sony Xperia devices and have never had any issues with them..
But everyone is different and has their own preferences on how they do things ..

Red Magic Support closed !!!!

Hi,
Not even two months after device was released, it seems that the Support page for the Gobal devices is closed !
When I click on the "Support" on the redmagic.gg homepage, I am taken to a new page that says : "This support site doesn't exist anymore"...
That looks really promising !
So to sum it up :
- Specs announced : brilliant ;
- Global ROM : disaster ;
- Updates to expect : none => the ones given do no apply to the end ;
- Since 2 days no more ability to transfer files over USB ;
- Support site closed...
This device is a pure waste of money.
As a lawyer I'll ask them where they are located and I'll sue them unless they give back support or refund.
Regards.
Wow, i hope This is just a "fail" with the Support Center. If not i will refund also. Could You give us Information what You do now?
Sadly im over the 14 Days..
But is There another way to get refund?
"Oops! This help centre no longer exists
The company you're looking for is no longer using our help centre. We suggest reaching out to them directly via their official website."
I suppose they are switching the support centre, which is a good thing, since support was a joke .
Regarding the global rom being a disaster, the updates not coming ( I just received one ) or the usb not working ( it does for me ) I disagree with you.

Hi,
Here is the thing for me (my own point of view).
The Global ROM lacks a lot of features you may expect from such a device.
Among other things :
- working dark mode ;
- gesture navigation ;
- always on display ;
- immersive mode (the one here just displays 3 lines in Chinese...) ;
- app lock / persistent apps in Recents ;
- front LED control...
I think all those can be considered as "must-have".
And funny thing is, Chinese ROM has some of them...
Some of the features can be added by installing apps from the Play Store, but most of those require a rooted device.
But if the device is rooted, it seems you won't be able to apply the updates
Speaking of updates : there has been one update.
But if I lok at the changelog, it seems they're focusing on... I could not really determine on what.
But certainly not on adding the missing features everyone is complaining about in the threads here.
But OK, we've had one update... How many others will we get ? And will they gring us the missing features ?
I could do with just ONE addition : the App-lock in recents to make the app persistent.
Of course, you can consider that the ROM is superb : a stripped bare AOSP that allows you to customise to your likings, with 0 bloatware and 0 uneccessary features.
I agree about the USB cable... It stopped working for some reason yesterday. It reworks now. What happened ? That will remain a mystery...
Then about support :
- did you ask them one question ?
- if so, did you get an answer ?
- how long did it take to get an answer ?
- can you access the support page from the official webpage (redmagic.gg) ?
- can you download the Europe/UK version of the ROM ?
I am sorry to say that I am not confident at all that we may have regular updates. And ZTE's reputation in the area is a hard one
Regards.
I would love to have proper dark mode on my phone.
Also, official AOD would be nice, as the AOD apps from the store can't compare with the official AOD of my previous phone ( Samsung S10+ ).
Locking an app in recent is a normal thing, I don't know why it's missing.
Support, as I said, is inexistent. I sent a couple of questions to them and realised from the answer they haven't even undestood me ( probably using Google translate eng - chinese ).
Weirdly, apart from these issues, I love the phone, its build quality, its speed...
And receiving 1 update in 1 month of ownership is something...

Hi,
Well, all I have mentioned except the locking app in Recents can be added if your phone is unlocked and rooted.
There's even an AOD Theme for Substratum, and it looks like it doesn't eat up too much battery as the apps from the app store do...
But there is one problem doint things this way.
Most of the apps used need to be enabled in "Accessibility" settings.
So if you can't pin the apps in Recents, deleting all recents just disables all those from accessibility.
So you may loose the dark mode from substratum... but you also may loose any navigation ability !
To be honest : if they could add the app lock in recents (that already is there in the Chinese ROM), I could live with all the limitations...
Good for us : it has 8GB RAM, so even with a lot of apps listed in Recents we're go short on memory.

Hi,
Well, all I have mentioned except the locking app in Recents can be added if your phone is unlocked and rooted.

You can easily fix your problem
You have to install your app as system app
System apps won't die or close when you kill them in recent app
You can download application called "link2sd"
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.buak.Link2SD
You must have root access
Open the application and press and hold on any application you want and press convert to system app
And then reboot
Your application won't die at all and the accessibility menu wont rest
Hi,
Thanks for your advice...
I've tried it and.... IT WORKS !!!!
I think I can now use this device exactly as I want... and will NOT send it back

Ur welcome ?
@NexusPenguin,
By reading all your posts,it seems that you're quite frustrated about your purchase, and I'm sorry to see you're so dissapointed...
But this device is primary aimed for gamers, and @ this price point,Nubia had to make concessions.....
TBH,for getting all bells and whistless, people should buy a REAL flagship, not a -500$ phone and then expect the same behavior of it as a +1000$ machine.........

Hi @roadworker,
Sorry, but I do not understand what you're saying.
I am not complaining about the hardware, but about the software.
And what I am asking about does really not seem extraodinary to me !
Navigation gestures ? Is that extravagant ? I think not => Chinese ROM has it, not global. Why ?
Lock apps in recent ? Is that extravagant ? I think not => Chinese ROM has it, not global. Why ?
Immersive mode ? Is that extravagant ? I think not. It is even expected in the Global ROM. But what do we have ? 2 lines of chinese...
Working dark mode ? Is that extravagant ? I think not => it is there but is not working.
A support page that actually shows up on the website ? Is taht extravagant ? I think not. It used to be there... Now it is gone.
I think those features SHOULD BE INCLUDED ESPECIALLY IN A GAMING PHONE...
Gestures to hide navigation bar ; theming of phone to make is "cooler gamer" ; locking gaming apps so they launch more quickly ?
So your argument is not relevant at all to me...
Regards.

Hi,
Will try that. If that works, that is super cool

EDIT : done it. It seems it is working : thanks so much... Love for the phone beginning to come back... Even better : rooted phone + stripped AOSP = customize exactly as you wish it.

There should be an established process with your bank to reverse a charge and a consumer protection agency for you to be able to return a product.
However, Red Magic have stated via Twitter and Blog that they have lost their Support system. That is a bad thing, and probably shouldn't happen to a big company but they have said it has.
https://global.redmagic.gg/blogs/news/update-on-support-07-01-support-is-back-up
If you raise a new call on the system you would probably get a better response. I would imagine they also lost self service and probably have not realised it is still down.

Something like that.
With deep process clean on I wasn't receiving any WhatsApp or Outlook notifications.
For those who are not happy with the bare Android experience and for example, about the lack of gestures and immersive mode, check out the apps of Manuel Wrage @ Google Play......

Themes / Apps / Mods [Magisk] [Module] Remap Assistant Button

Hey everyone,
this is just a super simple Magisk module, but could be useful to someone else if you don't want to make it yourself: it just replaces the GPIO key layout file in order to remap the assistant button to the Camera button. There's nothing fancy in here - no configuration, not checking whether the file is different from the default before installing in case you installed other key layout modules or custom ROMs... it really only does a file replacement, and that's all.
Only tested on my stock ROM G100 - the usual "use at your own risk" disclaimer applies.
Why remap to the Camera button? Because by default, that function can be used a shutter button while in the Camera app, but outside of it, it does nothing. While it's possible to simply disable the button, it can still retain some functionality this way. The assistant button is also in a pretty good shutter button position.
The Camera button can be remapped using other apps. I've used Button Mapper: it allowed me to map a press to Tasker's Secondary App, which I use as a context-sensitive action depending on which app is open - but Button Mapper has an option to bypass the mapping while the camera is used, so there, it can still use the default shutter behaviour.
If you want to do something else, the module is simple enough that you can probably make some changes yourself. Just edit the system/usr/keylayout/gpio-keys.kl file in the ZIP. "key 217" is the assistant button, so whatever function you put in that line is what will happen if you press it. ASSIST is the default behaviour, CAMERA works as described above - possible other options, if you'd like them, are HOME or BACK if you'd like to use the assistant button as a physical button for those, or something like F13 if you want a mappable button but don't care about camera shutter functionality.
(Similarly, if you find this module while looking for a way to remap the Assistant button on your non-G100 device, this should be pretty easy to use as a template - replace the key layout file with the default of your ROM, make any edits you want, then change the device name in customize.sh and you should be good to go.)
So what am I supposed to do with the file provided? Can you post detailed instructions?
You don't need any instructions here. This is a module for Magisk. You download the archive and install it in Magisk Manager. Its only purpose is to reassign the Google Assistant button to the shutter button in the camera. That's it!
It doesn't say any basic information, for example does it require root or not, etc etc.
For some reason people often posting custom ROMs and apps on this forum assume that everyone knows everything, which is not the case.
For example people often have to be read tutorial from other device sub forums, and risk bricking their device.
What are you going to use to get Root? Magisk = Root.
I dont want to get root. Why does everyone on this forum assume people come here to get root.
Root is the last thing you would want on your device. Idea is to customize without root.
Root means no banking apps for me and is a no go.
I need to be able to use banking apps.
If I can root without losing this capability then I would gladly do it.
Stop being so arrogant, the title of this post literally says MAGISK and root is not the last for the majority of people who come here. Most people specifically come here looking for methods to root their device, just because you are an exception doesn't mean you have to act so rude.

root can use banking app
gpay can use too
This is actually what I wanted and thought I was getting when I bought the phone, it's a shame they don't allow their customers to have this feature by default! So bewteen the patch and the help of Button Mapper, I have it setup to: single click for Screenshot, double for Back and long press for Flashlight. Thank you!
I tested it on Motorola one Fusion, i simply had to replace "nio" with "astro" in customize.sh and that's it
I succesfully flashed the module and now i can finally use it as POWER. What if i want to map the long press action of the side button?
Hello, I hope you have a nice day. I could know if this module works for the stock rom of Android 12 of the moto g100 thanks

Yes, you can bypass Safetynet and get banking apps working, I've done it on many roms on several devices. Some bank apps require you to use Adaway and block some trusteer domains.
You can start here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...safetynet-prop-edits-and-more-v6-1-2.3789228/
And use "Zygisk" to hide your bank app.

Question What is the benefits of Rooting these days?

I used to do it to flash firmwares but that does not seem to be prevalent any more, so why do I need to root?
I know this is a developer/modding site but I have to agree with the OP.
I come here for the general forum information that is "usually" more technical for obvious reasons. But to risk a very expensive tool for unlocking and modding....the risks far outweigh the benefits...IMO...YMMV
App & system theming (with Substratum + Swift Black, Repainter for pure system AMOLED black & Project Themer for different notification styles, lockscreen clock etc.). System-wide equaliser (currently with JamesDSP but will await VIper4Android working on A13 hopefully), system-wide ad-blocking. Revanced Youtube for background play etc.
Plus with AOSP Mods via Magisk it adds tons on features like customisable quick toggle column/row quantities + label text size, clock position, removing carrier label from status bar, long press power button screen off for torch and so much more! Plus not to mention custom rom support which whilst sometimes buggy, come with a wealth of benefits. I like to stick to stock these days with AOSP Mods & Magisk, as that module has many features and saves having any custom rom bugs (e.g. on Pixel 6 Pro, a custom rom would lose Magic Eraser whereas having a modded stock, retained it)/
I get the risks, but we do plenty of research and tread carefully and all is generally ok!
Got my Pixel 7 Pro just today and bootloader unlocked after the first OTA came through. It's now rooted and without passing safetynet currently, all cards successfully added to my Google Wallet.
Running like a dream
I used to root every one of my previous phones, but I've not done so on my Noted 10 Plus as I find Samsung Pay too useful. And rooting destroys it forever. Not sure if Google Pay still works when rooted, that may nudge me to do it.
I have no plans to root my 7 Pro when it arrives. But that may change.
Naughty boy client for Pokemon GO and system-wide AdBlock
For me the main thing is working app backup, since the Google solution is absolutely unreasonable (I have several non-play-store apps that I have had on every smartphone I've owned, and data generally isn't saved with Google anyway) But also tons of little things like being able to set a limit on battery charge level, full (to the extent still possible) filesystem access, a floating CPU monitor I like, Greenify, Island, Tasker stuff, etc.
System wide as blocking since 2012. No other phone does it better and easier.
How about Banking? I ditched rooting since all Banking apps denied to work. Workaround didn't work anymore.
Custom kernels that save on battery
Better Internet Tiles
ACC (Advanced Charging Controller) and AccA (Advanced Charging Controller App)

Just use their website? Or switch banks? I have my primary bank with a local outfit that doesn't care about rooting (although that's not why I got them, it certainly helps keep me there) if I need to deposit a check and everything else can be done on their mobile website.
My main reason would be for the custom Kernels and for Viper4Android. I didn't have a bunch of $ to fork out for 2 new phones so I went with Verizon so I won't be getting either unless I hit the lottery and then buy a Google Version of the P7P.
Anyone remember what made us able to root/ unlock the bootloader On the OG Verizon pixel?
Any chance of that happening on this device or should I just go ahead and do the system update that's waiting? For instance, I know the Samsung Galaxy Note Ultra 20 5G on Verizon(The Device I'm switching from) was locked down but apparently some guy on XDA started an Unlock service and would unlock it for ~$100.
I root since it's my XDA addiction!
Also add Titanium to the attached list!

From memory on the Verizon Pixel 1, there was a bug on Android 7.10, I believe it was, that fully just allowed us to toggle OEM unlocking on. From there it was a done deal. They patched it in 7.11. Again, from memory but it was either that or 7.11 before and 7.12 after.
And no, not likely to happen again. It would be very, very rare and like hitting the lottery. Didn't happen on the Pixel 6 Pro.

Maybe I will contact the guy doing it for the note 20 ultra and see if he thinks whatever he's doing to those phones is possible here.
Thanks for the reply.

The reality is that forced hardware attestation and the Play Integrity API will soon put an end to the tricks used to get around detection so people will have to figure out what root is worth to them. I decided awhile ago that I can live without it. Adb pull /sdcard does a nice enough backup job for me and Google's cloud backup pulls partial app data and will restore it where applicable.
Of course it does seem that there isn't a way to disable 5G SA on Pixels without disabling 5G altogether so I may have a use for root in the end anyway, time will tell, as I get sick of being stuck on T-Mobile's slow as molasses SA when midband is available.
Well i have rooted every other phone and rooting, installing kernel or roms solve some problem where oem is lazy or will not solve. Previously i was using OnePlus 7 pro with unlocked bootloader initially with Android 9. During Android 10 i prefer to lock bootloader again as during that time i was damm busy and getting time for root and transfer data was not possible. During Android 11 Oneplus had really ****ed up, device was getting hot like frying pan in summer. I really had no choice but to unlock bootloader and installed a stable custom rom(CR Droid) . Everything was perfect. After 9-10 months i thought i willl go to stock again and lock bootloader. But to my surprise cts profile was not getting matched. My phone was constantly recognized as Google pixel 6 pro (no NFC payment and play store dont recognize netfix) . Only safety net fix with Magisk was able to fix it. What really surprise is when i again installed Oxygen OS 10 cts profile was showing match with locked bootloader and with Oxygen OS 11,12 will show CTS profile mismatch. I really don't know what i had done wrong and there is no solution for locked bootloader.
So my suggestion is if anybody really want to unlock bootloader and have magisk prefer with your secondary device.
Is it possible to unlock 5G in another countries with root while having functional google wallet?
I only do it for AdAway. Would be wonderful if I could avoid rooting for blocking ads since it makes a few apps unusable (specificly Norwegian with no rooting community support). But I'll probably root my P7P when I get it on monday.
