[Q] Cases that support wireless charging - Galaxy S6 Accessories

Does anyone know of a list of cases that support wireless charging without removing the case?
Thanks

It depends on the wireless charger. Cheap ones have a smaller range. I would say most will work np. Even thick cases still work.

I plan to use the Samsung wireless charging pad I got for my S4. I had trouble finding a case for it once the new back was on, but I wasn't sure if it was because the added width of the new back, or charging ability.

Yep I've realised it's more likely my qi chargers that are the problem. Worked fine with my nexus 5 but you have to be exact with the positioning with the s6. I've ordered a new three coil choitech unit. Hope that works ok.

My s4 charger works great through my uag and commuter cases.

I think as long as the back is not metal, most cases work fine.

Most of the S6 Fans looking for that case. So do I.

I have the Otterbox Commuter, and it works without issue.

I have the energizer dual qi charging pad and it does not work well with the s6. I have yet to find the best position for charging the phone. When I place the phone on the pad it starts charging and then looses connection and then starts charging. It does that all night. I finally gave up and just use the cable.

Wireless Charging For Your S 4

I'm curious if anyone has purchased any kind of wireless charging unit for their Galaxy S 4. I think they are a neat idea but haven't tried one yet.
If so, can you recommend the brand you prefer and perhaps a link to it?
I'm curious to know if it charges at a manageable rate and is it efficient?
I have considered coughing up some good money on a couple of them if they work but don't want to go in blindly and haven't seen many reviews on them.

Some of them like this seem to maybe be worth it.
They are slow chargers.
I've read something about it here.
There are options out there. A lot cheaper.
Search this specific forum and you'll find the info.

I personally use my Zen wireless pads (mainly cause I've had them for a while) and just bought a wireless Insert from mobile fun. Works great. Yes its a slowish charge but can full charge over night while sleep np.

Charges at a rate about 1/3 the rate of the 2A charger (650mA). But it charges over night no problem. It's more economical to buy the insert and then buy a charging pad. Inserts usually run ~$20, with chargers running $30ish.

Yeah, that's the kind of info i'm looking for. I am interested in this because when I'm at work [I work for long periods of time] I'd like this to keep it charged. I often will pick my phone up to answer a text, or shoot an email or small things like check the weather quickly, or change my song on Spotify and then i'd like to set it back down to continue to charge.
I won't be using it for a regular charger, per se.
I'll just have to look into buying the insert and pad, seemingly cheaper than the options I was recommended previously.
I thought about this too, but read that they can heat up the phones charging this way and sometimes won't stop charging when full?
yes i have a insert receiver i paid £8 plus £17 for base on flea bay and it works perfectly ,i leave it on over night it charges 100% ,no heat or beeps.i am looking for a pad for my car now.
Some base stations aren't as good as others and will cause the device to heat up. Technically, they all cause the device to heat up but so does plugging it in.
I have three different base stations. The Samsung base, one from ebay(has a qi logo on it) and one from aliexpress(just has a wifi logo on it, and claims 1000 or 1500 output). The ebay one works very well, but makes an annoying loud beep when the phone is placed on it. The aliexpress base works allright but does cause the phone to heat up more than the other base stations.
The samsung base works fine, no annoying beep. But...it didn't come with a power cable so you have to use the cable that came with your phone to plug it up (in fact, it recommends a 2A charger for it). The other two both came with their own power cables.
I've not done tests to see what rates each of the base stations charge at but there's no noticeable difference.
Unfortunately, none of the wireless charging items I purchased have links to them anymore and I can't find comparable items. I wish I could just provide you with the companies I used that gave me the best results, but I just can't track them down.

If you are willing to do a little tweaking with the ebay one, you can rip off the top cover and cut off the speaker that makes the beep. I did that with mine and it stopped the beeping.
Is there not a kernel to increase the charging current on the wireless pads? There was for note 2 (neak kernel)?
I know that everyone is writing Powermat off as a failure but I just got an aftermarket insert for the S4 from a seller on Amazon - the reason why I chose Powermat is because I can use it in Starbucks and McDonald's - no real point in having wireless charging at home anyway. Can't do links but I guess if you search for 'pma thin receiver galaxy s4' you'll find it.
Sorry to bump such an old-ish thread, but I just got a QI patch for my S4, had it on my S3 and loved it. Works great and no issues whatsoever. Gets a tad bit hot but that's pretty much it. It charges at a decent rate.
I just picked up an S4 a few days ago that came with the wireless charging back. I am using a fatboy charging pillow that has the Nokia DT-900 plate in it that I got last year with my DNA. I've used several of the charging plates and they all work well and charge around 1A. What inserts is everyone talking about? What I have is the replacement back cover that includes the qi coil. It's slightly thicker and my issue has been finding a case that fits well over it. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I had been using the Nokia wireless transmitter before with my Note2. Just went on Amazon and ordered a $13 receiver and a UAG case. All works perfectly. Slight bulge on the battery cover but not noticeable with the UAG case on it. There is a slight weight difference but you have to expect that because the receiver is a copper coil.
Charging is slower than USB but perfect for night time recharging. =)

I'm using the official Samsung qi charger, a bit slow, but real convenient, love it, the battery door is a bit thicker so it won't fit my cases... Besides that all good!

I guess you're talking about the official Samsung Qi transmitter. My experience with the LG WCP-300 is similar. I tested the S4 with the official Samsung receiver back and got 640mA current input with 4 different power supplies (2.1, 1.8, 1.2, & 1 amp).

Nope, none of the things I'm using at OEM. All after market. I think I mistyped and meant to say 640mA.

I just noticed you didn't get an answer yet. The inserts are three Qi receivers that look like thin patches of plastic with very thin copper wires in them. There are many on eBay & Amazon, but really they all look much the same. Prices seem to run from around $12 to just under $30. Some are known to interfere with the NFC function. All seem to create a slight bulge when you place them against the battery contacts and put the back cover on. Some listings give the thickness in millimeters.
Typical:
http://www.amazon.com/GMYLE-Standar...id=1378662447&sr=8-15&keywords=s4+qi+receiver
I don't know about real cases, but I got a bumper for $6.50 that I like:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BWZJOB8/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The only apparent flaw is that the charging back cover is barely recessed into the bumper. No scratches yet, but I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I'm curious about the amount of power the phone actually receives using the OEM charging back with the OEM Charin pad. Would you mind checking that & posting it here, please? You can use the free app Current Widget from the Play Store, and it'll help me decide between the OEM pad and a generic.

Question about Wireless Charging Pad

I currently have the dock and enjoy using my phone as a night clock.. If I lean the wireless charging dock up at a 80 degree angle will the phone still stay on, and still charge? Anyone who has this, would you mind trying it? Is the phone magnetized to the base? Is the base slippery or rubberized?
The coil is about an inch above the bottom of the wireless charging pad. And the phone won't charge. Phone is NOT magnetized to the charging pad.
I have both official pad and one off ebay. The official pad is slippery plastic and ebay pad is somewhat rubberized.

Also, I found that samsung official charging pad had shorter charging distance (or weaker strength) compared to ebay pad.

I use a charger called Cool pad. I can mount it inside of a little wooden box or any thing that will give it a frame, Angle the frame, put my phone on the cool pad with frame and very thick case, bingo! Works like a charm. And very inexpensive.
Not a cheap alternative, but I just got a Tylt Vu. Love it! My only gripe is with the way that the S4 handles wireless charging in general. The way that it quits charging and then starts back when it reaches 95%. It sorta ruins having a wireless charger on my nightstand. I use my Tylt Vu at the office because of this "feature"

+1, it's expensive but only because it has multiple coils built in so you can basically just throw it on any way you like and it'll still charge. Great device, with they were just a tad cheaper.

Hi guys just upgraded from my S4 to S5 and bought the S5 flipcover ? where to buy pad

Did not know this until today but the case comes with inbuilt wireless charging pad in the flip case cover official
does anyone know the best place in the uk with fast delivery to get the best pad or the pad that charges the fastest
i head Qi s5 charging pads are good but cant find fast source in the uk for fast delivery and cheap lol
also not sure this is possible without cable but are there pads that pic up data aswell so that if i put hte phone down to charge on the pad it will let me transfer data to the phone and back from my pc without even plugging anything into the phone as that would be totally awesomeness lol
Make sure you actually bought the one with the charging built in. I didn't think it was released yet. I bought the s view case and I thought it was the wireless charging one too until I got home and found otherwise. Yes it has pins in the battery cover, but these aren't for qi.
Edit: just checked the Samsung website and it says coming soon. So yours most likely doesn't have wireless charging.

Does Anywere Sell Pre-Modded Samsung Qi Back Covers

Alright, so the Samsung replacement back cover for Qi charging adds enough thickness that normal cases won't fit anymore, this is known.
It is also known that you can take the offical Samsung Qi back cover, remove Samsung's Qi hardware, modify a stock back cover (glue, tape, and a dremel?) to add the module. This way it fits into the standard phone cases, while still allowing NFC to work properly, and wireless charging.
Does anywhere sell these pre-modified? Searching just leads me to cheap 3rd party Qi modules and reviews of the Samsung Qi covers..
You mean something like this: http://m.aliexpress.com/item/32394000515.html?

Yes, something like that.. Except using Samsung's Qi module.
Alright, after giving up on that idea...
Looking at adding one of the tape on modules that support NFC.. I don't use it often, but I do use it..
Can anybody recommend the Qi-Infinity modules over the PWRcard brand?
The updated Qi-Infinity module and the SLIMPWRcard are both supposed to have NFC support..
However, searching with Google on my mobile, I can't find a person that has done a comparison/review of them.
Does anybody have a recommendation?

Cool thanks
I rarely post but was browsing the forum and wanted to chime in. I Just picked up a refurbished note 4 on eBay. I'm coming from a LG G3.
I wanted wireless charging on this phone but didn't want the thicker Samsung back.
I order a qi receiver on eBay since the prices were a bit cheaper than amz. I purchased the type that sticks to your battery after aligning the pins correctly. The issue is that I didn't want to tape it to my battery though because I like to swap the batteries out and charged them outside the phone.
When I added qi to the lg g3, the receiver taped to the back of the phone cover so I was surprised to see this opposite. I figured why not do the same with this phone. I used household double sided tape to attach the note 4 qi receiver to the back of the phone cover. It took a few tries to make sure the pins lined up but works with no issues once correct . My qi receiver was only 8 bucks.
I hope this helps anybody.

Quick question.. The more research I do, the harder this becomes.. lol
Does your module trickle-charge when the battery gets to 100%, does it turn off? Or does it keep the phone supplied with power, but stops charging.
Turns off at 100% then starts charging again when the phone gets to 99% for example? Or does it just stay at 100%?
Does this depend on the Qi pad used? Or only the phone module? Both?

I set mine on the pad at night and it shows 100% in the morning so it must trickle charge to keep it at 100%. It has a light on the choetech 3 coil pad I use that lights up when it detects the device is on the coil and drawing power.
I imagine this is based on both but not sure. I'm thinking the pad sits in a low power state and ramps up when it detects the device (indicates it knows it's there by the led on the pad). On the phone side, the phone controls when it draws current from the coil in the phone just the same as when it's plugged in. The inductive coil part is pretty simple and barebones.

I cannot confirm whether NFC works as I do not use it and I don't have any NFC devices.
I have experienced two issues with wireless charging since hooking it up. While my verdict is still iffy, i will continue to to test it out, as i love the concept.
The first night, the phone completely froze and i had to pull the battery. I had similar issues with my nexus 4 so i used an app called Safe Charge to help resolve my issue. I didn't bother testing a second night as i needed the alarm clock to work. I trusted that safe charge would fix the issue because i had similar issues on a nexus 4. And as expected, I had no issues since,. I'm wondering if i should continue this though as last night it didn't charge at all. I'm hoping i just i didn't put the cover back on right. i'll post back in a few days with updates.
Update: I think my issue was my case. I have started charging my phone without my it and my issue was resolved.
I also removed safe charge.
I'm guessing the fast charging wireless pad would work...?

Wireless charging worry free

I've seen more than a few questions arise about certain wireless chargers and restrictions, but don't worry. My wife has the Mophie wireless charging case and charging pad for the iPhone 7+ and the built wireless charging on the S8+ is compatible both with and without a case. So for anyone spending extra for a specific wireless charging package keep it simple it works!
It may not work with every FAST wireless charger... I have 6 that I used withe S7 Edge that worked great, but 4 of them do not work with the S8+ for no obvious reason....
link to the one you have....Also are you using your supplied cable?
I got the RooRoo (stupid name) on amazon for $21 and it's been working fine with my S8+. Got it for the S7E originally. Supports fast charge and doesn't have any trouble. Phones in a case and the charger is only tall enough to touch just below the camera.
Edit: I do both technically. If I need to use my phone or I am at work, I tend to just have a corded charger I use. Else wise I use the wireless stand.

I got 2 of the Elephas fast charge wireless stands for my S8+ and my wife's S8.. They don't work much at all, despite their positive reviews.. When using the adapter the came with the phones, they continue pause charging every second, until the phone gives up and says it's not compatible. If I plug them into a iphone adapter or a pc via usb, they charge but still randomly stop sometime through the night. Usually in the 80%'s.. Going to try different chargers..

Can just pick the phone up and use it then lay it back down and it'll stay topped up. Was thinking of the official Samsung one.......glad i didn't
I have no idea why one would spend 1,000€ on a device then skimp on a 40-50€ Samsung charger? Like buying a Merc' or BMW etc then using xxxx 40€ seat covers or floor mats.

Lol, I hear you. Now behave yourself lol, you can't be THAT skint to purchase the S8+ :highfive:
This is a tough debate. Numerous threads on XDA cover this point and so many owners have damaged their mobiles using third part chargers. At the very least take a very careful look at the specs on any third party charger and ensure they are identical to the charger that came in the box, even then there can be problems though? Its a gamble.
Please look after yourself and your mobile eh?

Easy to purchase when you have been on mobile contracts for donkeys years
The rating on my supplied charger says output is 5v - 2.0a and the wireless says 5v - 1000ma
