[GUIDE] How to enable sms/mms on the V410 - G Pad 10.1 Themes and Apps

So I figured out how to send and recieve sms on the V410
This will only work if you have texting on your carriers data plan.
BACK UP FIRST because you'll be editing the build prop..
I am not responsable for your lack of understanding if you boot loop.
1) First, you can download one of these mms apks from this thread and install: (mms will not work though, only sms)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/goo...hemed-apps-kitkat-4-4-2-mms-apk-dark-t2519733
Or you can use Google Messenger: (my preference because mms works)
http://www56.zippyshare.com/v/EyGnHgRz/file.html
2) Next download this Xposed Module and enable, but don't reboot yet:
http://repo.xposed.info/module/de.makuser.nexussms
3)Then with a build prop editing app like Build Prop Tweaker
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ksharkapps.buildproptweakerlite, edit this line in the buildprop:
telephony.sms.send
Change from false to true then save.
4)Reboot.
5)Now when you open up the mms app or Messenger you'll have to set it to default unless you want to use Hangouts.
6)Text freely
Mms will NOT work on stock KitKat messaging apps do to limited apns on the device. Google Messenger has built in apns which allows for mms and sms.
BONUS:
Transparent and Blacked Out Google Messenger.

I TAKE NO CREDIT FOR ANY APPS OR MODULES IN THIS THREAD!! Only the method needed for this tablet

I did all steps not working. And yes we have unlimited text on our plan

Nothing is working? Are you sure you saved the build prop edit? What did you use to edit it?

hey
I tired the steps but when I am changing the telephony from false to true. It just go back to false. Is it because my lg g pad is still locked on a network and not recognizing the sim that is in?

Because your build prop is not saving it. You HAVE yo use a build prop editing app, not the one in the root file managers.. Also if your data plan doesn't include texting it won't work.. Maybe it will work with a 3rd party text service, but haven't tried.

This happened to me when I tried to change from false to true without rooting the tablet. After I did the root, it worked fine.

SMS
I tried the method above to no avail. I was on the stock ROM and rooted. I flashed the Candy5 ROM as mad_g can "text SMS with out problems!!" from that ROM. Still no joy on texting from this tablet, although I do like the Candy ROM, so thank you lol. I'm on AT&T with unlimited texting. I tried multiple SMS apps including Google Messenger. The text shows as sent, but is never received on the other end. I tried with WiFi both on and off. Am I missing something obvious?
**Edit**
I have since confirmed that I have flashed the LP 5.1 version of the Xposed framework, but now, I go into the buildprop editor, and I do not have a "telephony.sms.send" option.
I still think I am missing something obvious...

I had trouble at first, but realized i had to install Xsposed framework first THEN install the sms enabler module. it worked flawlessly after that and rebooting. Can't figure out how to receive calls yet but that's a separate thing lol

I tried what you suggested and still no luck. The issue now is I do not see "telephony.sms.send" in any build prop editor.

I'm having this same issue all steps followed correctly and in order, there's just no "telephony.sms.send" anywhere in my build.prop.

Same here. I have an Evo on Cricket including market and apps except for MMS. The autostart/u2nl method for the Eris works on the Evo using the same autostart.sh script (unmodified). However the 3G connection is flaky and times out frequently. Also I get random Data Call error 98 messages related to Sprint stuff still on the phone. (I'm running a rooted stock 2.1 ROM)
I also noticed that during the toast root process I was able to ##778# (quite to my surprise) then it went away when I flashed the whitslack update ROM (upgrades radio, wimax, etc).
The strange thing re: MMS is that I tried the APN backup/restore option which worked on the Eris and it "appears" to work. The configuration settings within the Message application "look" right for Production but alas I still cannot receive or send pic messages. No biggie (I ain't paying someone just to get MMS working) but would be nice to have it working. Seems like overkill to have to create an entire ROM just to get MMS working.
Anyway...it's quite frustrating since the Eris works perfectly on Cricket with the autostart/u2nl solution.
##778# and any other ## command doesnt work for me anymore. any ideas to fix?

Anycut can link to EPST settings.
Chances are the reason it works in one rom and not another is due to the apk's installed. look for differences in the framework folder - the lib folder - and the /system/app folder from your rom that is working the rom that is not.
I belive the EPST settings are native to stock HTC roms and thus not included in a cyanogen based rom (thats how it is on the eris at least). Most people on the phone's true network will never need EPST so it may be getting removed by the rom developer to cut down on space and increase speed etc.
just my thoughts.

Verizon Visual Voicemail and Custom Roms

It used to be enough to change build prop from:
ro.HorizontalVVM = true
ro.HorizontalBUA = true
to
#ro.HorizontalVVM = true
#ro.HorizontalBUA = true
reboot and install Verzon Visual Voicemail (VVM) from the market.
now to get it to work I had to do that.
And with VVM gone from the market I found it to download online. vzw, vvm.apk version 1.0.19 installed it.
Then rebooted. Then called *22899 to update the PRL.
Then if it only shows Voicemails, but won't download
I went into the Voicemail preferences and changed save vm's to External storage instead of internal, reboot. and it started working like ten minutes later.
OK all the info above is from various posts here at XDA. and I just put it all together in one post for anyone who's had the same issues I did. Thank you to whom supplied the info to me.

You shouldn't comment out (#) the
ro.HorizontalVVM = true
ro.HorizontalBUA = true
Instead change the "true'" to "false"
You dont need to do the *22899 to get vvm working its unrelated but it dosen't hurt anything.
As for the verizon vvm app, it never did anything but cause me problems. From not syncing for new vm's to not downloading messages, and fc'ing. I perfer the motorola vvm from the droid x anyways. It looks sleeker works perfect, and has always been reliable.
Motorola visual voicemail v1.0

Changing the settings in VVM to external storage seemed to be the missing link to get it to work when it wouldn't download the messages it showed.

Thanks! I have a Droid X that I put a new rom on and couldn't find anywhere to download the Voicemail's apk again from since it was preloaded. Installed from the link provided, works great again, no configuration needed, just open the app after it installs and provide your voicemail password after accepting the tos.

AT&T Visual voicemail

I flashed the t-mobile rom and it won't let me install AT&T visual voicemail saying the device isn't compatible. I was wondering if any of you guys can upload the APK for me. Thanks
I think this is it!
Won't install on beastmod for me, pushing to system/app and changing permissions won't install either. Boo
I have visual voicemail installed but no messages appear on the app. Its just blank. It was working before I changed my APN... Anybody else visual voicemail not working?

I beloved this happens because the apk files looks at the build.prop file to see if its a vivid or a skyrocket. I have been trying to.install the file to my OG GS2 to no avail. Maybe somebody could edit the apk to make it work on others devices.

Visual Voicemail will only work or install with the pta or phone APN.
I have the PTA apn, still no go
I'm using PTA APN and have even gone as far as editing the build.prop to match the settings in the stock AT&T ROM. Still no go. Market even recognizes it as the correct device.
I am going to try and streamline this tmo rom thing tomorrow so it works a little better. More of a complete conversion. I will add getting that apk working to my list

I tracked down an apk awhile back for it that worked on every rom I've used. Even cm7 and revenge of mcnut. I passed it on to sean to include with cyanotouchwiz. Go to the cyanotouchwiz thread, and in the OP its attached at the bottom. Use app installer from the market to install it.
I would just like to make a note that I never got a voicemail while on mcnut so I can't say for that but it installed.
Sorry if this seems nooby but I've only used google voice for my voicemails is visual voicemail any good and how do they differ?

[Fix]- VVM on all sense 3.5 Roms

Ok, I love all of the new roms we've had our great developers dropping on us. But on most of the 3.5 roms sprints visual voicemail doesn't work, due to sprint not having an offical 3.5 rom we have to use other carriers ports.
Anyways I figured out a way to get vvm to work on any 3.5 rom, here you go;
1. Have a titanium backup of a working vvm (with a couple voicemails on it)
2. Restore it to whatever 3.5 sense rom you want.
3. Reboot into recovery wipe cache, dalvik then flash attached .zip file.
4. Once phone is rebooted, install the attached .apk.
Let me know if anyone has issues!, I've tested this on a few different 3.5 roms, works fine on all of them.
Note- I have had a couple of times after flashing different fixes that it breaks vvm, if you get force closes, just reinstall the .apk and it will work again.
*****DO NOT UPGRADE TO NEWER VVM, YOU WILL HAVE TO REDO EVERYTHING OVER AGAIN IF YOU DO!!*****
I don't quite understand the issue here. I'm running PrimeXL 3.5 ROM and my VVM works just fine. Unless you are referring to the text feature that comes along with it?
Is there something else to it?

Yeah, it's weird. I think some of the 3.5 roms are based on different baseboards, like I was having issues getting newtoroots/mik's 3.5 roms to playback directv's sunday ticket app, which I paid for so on sundays I'd flash back to mikg so I could use it.
But it seems like some 3.5 rom's have working vvm, and some dont. It will try to provision the app, but it ends up producing a "general failure".
This fixes that on the other 3.5 roms that it won't work on.
I dont use VVM but i know one of my friends that does. I'll pass the info along. Good work!!!
Sounds great man will take this into consideration man thanks.
It was my understanding that all you had to do was flash to a 3.0 ROM, let VVM provision, do a TB of VVM and data, flash the 3.5 ROM, and restore VVM using TB. So what are the 2 attachments for?
I'm not sure this really "fixes" anything, as once it flashes, VVM does a FC and I have to re-install. A simple backup-restore with TB works just fine, IMO.

David- That used to work on many of the 3.5 roms, but as things have changed and gotten upgraded in certain 3.5 roms, it somehow broke that way of restoring vvm services, but if it works for you or anyone else then absolutely stick with doing that, it just didn't work for me.
Gyro- I tried to just install the vvm.apk but for me on any rom I tried to do that on it wouldn't work unless I did it in the way I listed above, trust me I wouldn't of posted all of that stuff if it wasn't necessary.

Easy way to change that;
When you get one of those messages open it up and press menu, then click "block messages", then it will ask you for a password. Just enter any password that you want (make sure you remember it)
Then it should start blocking all of the 9016 messages.

No, it does not work with the new vvm app. It will give you the "generic failure" message if you upgrade and it won't provision your vvm.

I tried this fix on Radiance RC-2. Radiance came with VVM but wans't sure if it was working and what not. I restored from TB my VVM (the one updated by sprint) and then got a voice mail today, didn't work. So I ran the fix (had it sitting on SDCard) and it reverted it back to old voice mail, then asked me to update, so I went ahead and updated and sent myself a voice mail. No go.
As I can see in this thread that there is an issue with the new VVM and it not working on 3.5 anyhow. So how would I go about fixing this? Should I restore my VVM from TB (even though it's the New one) and then run the fix again and let it revert it back to the old VVM?
Thanks for the help and also the fix.

Yeah, do not upgrade to the newer vvm. And you should do what you said to restore vvm service, restore your titanium backup, flash zip and install apk, do not install update.
I will update OP so this doesn't happen to others in the future.
That worked Ron. Thanks for the help. Silly VVM
Worked perfectly, thanks!!!

Visual Voice Mail for AOSP [Need Help]

I'm trying to get Verizon Visual Voicemail working on CM10 on SGS3. I have 3 different apk's:
Verizon's Visual Voicemail from the market (pulled from my DInc)
Verizon's Visual Voicemail Nexus from the market (after a few build.prop edits)
Stock Touchwiz Visual Voicemail (Thanks to NoSympathy)
Both market versions install without a problem, but have connection timeouts when trying to verify my vvm subscription.

Anyone have any ideas? I'm digging through the apk's to try and find why both market versions time out.
I would try stuff from the gnex since it is built for AOSP

You are correct, however - I think what con's trying to refer you to is what I'd try first - go online and search "verizon galaxy nexus visual voicemail apk", find it, download it, transfer to your phone, and install from "unknown souce". It may work right off the bat, but it may not also. If not, it sure will give you a good starting point with where to go with it since A) its already build for AOSP and B) already built to communicate with the Verizon network.
Good luck!
Rather than beating your head in trying to get it to work you could save the 3 or 4 bucks a month and just use Google voice, is kind of irritating through the initial setup but in the end works well and does the same thing. Just my 0.02

With the Droid Incredible I had to do these steps to get Verizons visual voice mail to work with CM7.2
Use file manager and go to "/system"
Mount the folder R/W(Read/Write
open build.prop in Text Editor
look for "ro.horizontalVvvm = True" and chenge it to False
look for "ro.horizontalBUA = True" and change it to False
save your edit, and back out to thr "/system" folder. Once again switch the directory back to R/O, exit your apps and reboot.
You shoulkd now be able to install your Vvm.apk without it telling you to uninstall it because one is already installed.
Note I am using Virtuous rom however it should work for most roms I would imagine.
If you do not have a Vvm.apk here is one from the Droid X but it works great on my incredible. Looks almost like the stock incredible version.

The stock vvm app installs fine, it just hangs while trying to verify the subscription. I thought it might have been the ro.horizontal.vvm line in the build.prop like on cm7, but that line wasn't even in there. I added it just to see and it made no difference. I switched to Google voice and I'm loving how it integrates directly into the phone app instead of having to run a separate vvm app. Thanks for the post.
Btw, anyone wanting the stock tw or old Verizon apk, feel free to pm me and ill send it to you.

Even when it was working on tw, no. Google voice is infinitely better, especially once you have it incorporated into the aosp phone app. The voice mails show up in your call log. Only problem is had was recording my greeting. After the initial setup, it's totally seamless.

otherwise I'd use google voice. Unles there is a way to turn that off.

If you go into the settings for gv, there's a setting to pick what app receives text messages.

You shoulkd now be able to install your Vvm.apk without it telling you to uninstall it because one is already installed
Sound like a great idea to try. Has anyone tried that yet?
