Now can we get our own section??!! We have root and recovery skinny rom by @timmytim and possibly cm12 on the way. There seem to be a lot more folks getting these devices now too. Also in the 10.1 development section there are more threads for us than them.. Js

Purple Drake Lite from the G3 forum..

I tried Purple Drake as well.
Right after the tablet boots up after the temproot process, the command line says device found and then Error in red with a bunch of other stuff. It flashes too fast to read, cloees the cmd window and reboots my tablet.

You have to go through all the pc connections to install all the drivers... Mtp,ptp, charge. Once you get those installed make sure it is on ptp then eun purp drake lite..

Thanks for your work Shoxxy! Question for you though... after installing and creating a backup, I rebooted and tried clicking Restore just to make sure it worked and no backups are listed there. I can navigate to the backups using the TWRP file manager, but not through Restore.

@swizzel
I tried that as well. No joy. Thanks anyway. I will keep looking through the forums to see what I am missing.

I noticed that too, but after noticing it, I tapped the space just below Select Backup, when using the Materialized Theme shown below, and it then showed my backup.

I'm not sure if it's possible to do something similar to display the backup when using the default theme or not.

You were right. The theme is hiding the button apparently. I had clicked all over the place (I thought) and not found it, but just tried it again and it came up. I'm going to remove the theme and check again. Thanks for your help!
EDIT: Removing the TWRP theme solved the problem.

@Swizzle
I tried the drivers from the LG site and also the non-verizon driver from the purple drake thread.
I will try the other option you suggested.
Thank you all for the assistance!

So I gather the process for the 410LTE version to root is Purple Drake Lite first then TWRP? Or is TWRP optional? oh and sorry about the newbie question but what is the function of TWRP? Thanks in advance.
I got 2 from the recent ebay deals and want to root. Possibly want to get one of the T-Mobile plans (Harbor Mobile, basic-internet.com).

TWRP is kind of optional until we get some custom ROMs, which are in the works.
However, LG has never released the firmware for the V410, so installing TWRP and storing a nandroid backup isn't a bad idea.

its AT&T not releasing the stock software that is the problem. i believe there is a kdz for the v400 but AT&T keeps their stuff hush hush like someone is going to try and steal their awesome bloat formula.

I always figured it was an AT&T thing, not a manufacturer thing. I have an AT&T phone that hasn't had the firmware released since android 4.1.1. Every revision of the firmware right up to the current ones is available for the Canadian version of the same phone.
Luckily there are some great developers on XDA that support that phone quite nicely. It is great to start to see some more dev activity on this little tablet too. Thanks for all your hard work shoxxy (I hit the the button too)!

Used purple drake lite last night to root and then flashily to flash this. Created a backup, wiped and flashed skinny rom, no issues.

I'm working on a step-by-step written guide, but the toolkit will guide you through the steps to root as well. The toolkit does support the 2.2.1 update. :good:

Unlocking the bootloader WILL erase all data. I don't know if you could achieve root without a custom recovery but if you plan to flash a custom recovery you will need to unlock the bootloader.
While this tool worked for me, it didn't work well with step 2. It did flash the recovery but I had to manually reboot to recovery for it to work. Selecting yes/next to reboot to recovery after flashing it through the tool only took me to fastboot. That was the only thing I noticed but other than that, everything else worked perfectly. For clarification as well, I did it on newest firmware available right now (2.2.1).

The reboot option after the recovery flash is supposed to reboot you back to Android because the next step in the toolkit is to push SuperSU, which requires ADB.

Well in my case, it didn't do that either, mine ended up in fastboot. In any case it everything works as it should. thanks!
Worked flawless.
After flashing TWRP where it asks to reboot, it does reboot the tablet but the program seems to get stuck on "Rebooting......" even after the tablet have booted.
I tried waiting a min to see if it changed but I had to remove and attach the USB again before it realized it was connected and said "Move to step 3".
I'm happy though because anything that can be done smoother than ADB (even though it is really easy) is appreciated.
Wow, this looks super useful and easy. I was just thinking of rooting my shield again cause I'm sick of adds and just dropped in to see how things were progressing on the development side.
Glad I did now, might give this a whirl today
Edit: This is awesome! I was contemplating rooting my 2nd shield (after my first one blew up after 5 days) and have been putting it off for a while.
I'm used to rooting n'stuff so I don't find it to difficult but this just made things so much easier! I had it unlocked and rooted in a couple of minutes.
Big thank you for your effort and hard work.
I can't seem to get adb working. What do I need to do to get the program to recognize my shield tablet?
Sent from my Nexus 6 using Xparent Cyan Tapatalk 2
Ensure you have installed the drivers.
And don't forget to use an USB 2.0 port! USB 3.0 ports generally do not work.
Is there any way to do this with Ubuntu?
Thank you for this! It looks like an amazing tool, just what I was looking for. I had a Kindle Fire HD and it was a hell lot of trouble to install TWRP and flash roms, and when I saw my brand new shield had a hell of a process to get rooted in Lollipop the Kindle nightmare just flashed before my eyes (I had bricked it once so my heart practically stops every time an android device of mine reboots, in fear it won't turn on again). It's such a relief to see everything automated.
If you read what I had written there before (some questions about how to use the toolkit) never mind me, I found the instructions
i can't get this to work, it keeps saying OFFLINE. i installed everything it requested when I opened the .exe
Unlocked bootloader.
Installed Twrp.
But when i go to recovery mode on my lg watch r it STILL boots to the stock recovery???
Am i doing something wrong?

NOTE ON ROOTING WITH TWRP:
If you have kingroot installed remove this before rooting with SuperSU above or you will have issues.
Kingroot attempts to block Supersu so must be removed first by using the uninstaller in the Kingroot superuser app.
Absolutely NO feedback
Out of literally hundreds of people that have downloaded and benefitted from the files I've posted NOT ONE person has left ANY feedback whatsoever and only 5 have hit the thanks button and 2 very generous people have offered donations to whom I am very thankful.
As developers we need encouragement and ALL we ask is a quick click on the thanks button and a little feedback.
It's not too much to ask is it for hours of work on a device we don't even own?
XDA is a 2 way community, it's GIVE and TAKE not just TAKE.
Due to this I have decided I am not going to update the builds to the new TWRP v3.0.0-0.
Thank you.

Come on people. It is not asking to much to thank someone for giving us what we need to make our tablets much better. Over in the T-Mobile S6 thread we have the same issues. These devs do this for us in their spare time for free, so showing a little appreciation is not asking a lot.
Hi, sorry for the late reaction. I succesfully installed your custom recovery but than i had trouble with SD card, it wouldn't get locked in the slot so i couldn't try the backup and restore funtions.
Now SD problem is fixed but when i boot into recovery i get stock, TWRP is gone so first chance i get i'll try to flash it again (don't have a PC available right now).
It would be a shame if you would stop working on our device, you gave us a very important tool for witch i would like to thank you.
You don't need a pc. Extract the recovery.img from the .tar file and then flash with flashify.

I want to thank @ashyx for getting Root &TWRP for the Tab E. I bought my SM-T560NU one week ago today. The first thing I did when I got home was to search for Root & Recovery and I found this thread. Everything flashed fine for me. Without devs like @ashyx on XDA we would be stuck with ordinary Tablets & Phones. So make sure to hit the thanks button and post feedback to let them know if things are working or not. It's not that hard to do.

+1, I haven't tried it yet on my wife's SM-T560NU 'coz my wife always have the tablet with her. She wouldn't even let me get close to it since I screwed up her phone. I will report ASAP when I get a chance to steal the tablet and root it (hopefully successful).
Thanks to @ashyx in advance and to guys reporting back on their experience. Please keep the thread alive.

Smt560nu rom
Was anyone able to find the stock ROM for SM-T560NU on SAMMOBILE?

If you're talking about this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3300291
Then you don't need to install twrp.
However installing custom recovery and making a backup is one of the best mods you can do to your device.

I would advice to use the official TWRP & root method that is already provided by UMi -> http://community.umidigi.com/thread-2962-1-1.html
It covers all their recent phones (including the PLUS and the PLUS E).

Hmm - I think I was wrong :-/
The wheel has to be reinvented because of an non working TWRP with (some) devices that have been upgraded to Android 7 Nougat.
Some users (including me) facing the problem that the recovery won't start properly even after successful flash of recovery partition with the most recent available version of TWRP (provided by UMi).
These users got the "no command" text presented.
An common but not helping tip in the UMi forum is to press VolUp + Power Button but it changes nothing.
Also downgrading to Android 6 and installing TWRP is mentioned often.
When downgrading to Android 6 some users are running in the next problem: an black screen
Some users are reporting an working TWRP even after upgrade to Android 7.
In conclusion i'd like to speculate:
There are at least 2 different hardware versions.
A new one that can't be run with the downloadable Android 6 provided by UMi and an old one that can be down- and upgraded.
This may also be the reason why TWRP is running for some users and for others it did'nt.
I would be pleased to read your feedback.
Did you run in similar trouble and do we have a mass problem?
Did you found any solution?

Hey mate,
I have the same rare UMi PLUS. Here is how I fixed mine.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ge...y-twrp-cwm-t3385733/post70644780#post70644780
There is a custom built TWRP, with no touch screen functionality. You need to use OTG mouse/keyboard or console commands to root. Took me ages to sort it out, but the SOLUTION is in the above link.
I would love if @jemmini could create a working touch screen TWRP for us! Hint hint, nudge nudge, poke poke! I have tried to create/toyed with porting TWRP myself but am not skilled enough with the kernel modification required to make the touchscreen work. If anyone can explain/teach us how to fix the kernel ourselves, I would be eternally grateful! :good: 'Teach a man to fish' and all that!
Hey @shadimar69!
Thanks for the hint & link.
I found it also earlier but had not posted an self-reply here
There is an incoming new OTA and SPFT (http://www.mediafire.com/file/hh1069alx7v8i6i/PLUS.V3.02_20170208_c239v55_kw_u3_no-DB.rar) maybe it's worth to wait for that because TWRP has should be modified again ...
I could'nt state feedback for that because my girlfriends UMI PLUS is broken and has been send back to amazon for refund :-/

Hi @raupe,
I have been running this 'update' for the last 12 days give or take. It seems good, only BIG bug I have is the touch sensitivity around the ROM is very low. You have to press the screen really hard to get a touch register, but in some apps like Chrome its fine. GPS works fine, bluetooth, etc all the other issues people seem to have are fixed. (for me anyways) Will be good when the next build is released.
Don't you wish Android rooting process was a lil bit easy rooting the LGV20 was a real pain somewhat unstable but it has its ups!

Is there any progress for a new TWRP with working touchsreen for these rare UMI Plus?
I have the same problem like @raupe and since I'm new to UMI, I read a lot of pages in a lot of forums, but no one seem to have a properly working recovery for this kind of UMI Plus.
These days I updated to 20170412_c239v55_kw_u3 firmware and managed to boot successfully the "no-touch"-TWRP.
Now I ordered an OTG cable, but meanwhile I was wondering, if there isn't any new TWRP without this little problem?
Thanks,
ts7348

TWRP is an open source, community project. TWRP development is done by roughly 4 people at this point. We also have a large support community with many people who are willing to answer questions and help people with their devices either through our IRC channel or on forums like xda-developers.
Team Win was originally formed to work on porting WiMAX to CM7 for the HTC EVO 4G. After our work on the EVO 4G we wanted to work on a project that would work on more devices than just the EVO 4G and we settled on working on a recovery. Today TWRP is the leading custom recovery for Android phones.
A custom recovery is used for installing custom software on your device. This custom software can include smaller modifications like rooting your device or even replacing the firmware of the device with a completely custom "ROM" like OmniROM

As soon as I get a chance buddy. I've been working some crazy long days(60hrs/WK) and dealing with family issues.
Just stick around and hopefully me or another SlimDesire Dev will get to it ASAP.
Wow only one person well 2 now hit the thanks button. Show your thanks people.
Thanks by the way dev
Appreciate the love Josh, but I've been in the Android game here on XDA since 2008 and know that not all things are appreciated. No worries, Captain_Throwback deserves all the thanks for this build anyways.

You good bro I've been here since around 2008 myself. My first phone was HTC mytouch 4g lol and uneven the first Android phone the G1 and so forth. I know the G1 was the was the first Android phone but I didn't hear about rooting until HTC mytouch 4g. Been doing it ever since, I even ported few roms like MIUI. Maybe soon I will be porting to this device.
Hope this is not considered as spamming threads. I just think this message is relevant to this thread in particular since is TWRP-related.
In case some of you can not load the TWRP image from the first post in this thread in your devices after flashing it, i recommend you try this another image also by Captain_Throwback. It worked with no problem on a HTC Desire 530 from Claro Chile, and maybe it will work on other versions.
Captain_Throwback said:
Alright, rebuilt TWRP with dtb separated (though that really shouldn't make a difference). If this one doesn't boot, I'll try using the dtb from the 3.0.2 TWRP, and if that still doesn't work, I'll just revert to the kernel/dtb from the original 3.0.2 release. I was hoping to be able to use the source-built kernel to patch the touch driver and clean up/fix some things, but that may not be possible. Unless this works, in which case, yay!

First of all I would like to thank anyone and everyone who has made phone rooting guides, they definitely help out!
Now my question, does anyone have the stock RUU: RUU_A16_UL_M60_DESIRE_SENSE70GP_TMUS_MetroPCS_US_1.36.1550.5_Radio_01.01_U113251531_68.01.61229G_release_495720_signed_2.exe
I cannot find this file anywhere, even the download link on HTC's website is broken. Unfortunately TWRP wont work on my Desire 530 because I upgraded my ROM to 1.36.1550.14. So I need to downgrade from what I've heard in order to get TWRP working, then I can install an S-OFF kernel and install Super-SU. Make sense to anyone?
I unlocked my bootloader and flashed TWRP to my recovery. When I reboot my phone into recovery I see the TWRP screen, then the phone reboots. I've tried clearing my cache partition, and that hasn't helped. I managed to do this by following directions for clearing cache partition on T-Mobile website with stock recovery image BTW. I also tried flashing several different versions of TWRP, some experimental builds by Capt Throwback, and some builds for other phones. I just can't get any relief.
Thanks in advance!

Nubia X: ROOT, TWRP and GAPPS

Attention: This is a post aimed for Developers only! Check the How-To instead!
Welcome to this progress Thread.
In this thread im going to collect links, thinks I have done at my own and other stuff related to making the Nubia X more useful outside china.
CHECKPOINTS:
ROOT ✓
UNLOCK BOOTLOADER ✓
FLASH Original Recovery ✓
GENERATE Tree
COMPILE TWRP for Nubia X NX616J
FLASH TWRP X
FLASH GApps X/✓ (partial working)
LINKS:
TWRP for a new device: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=32965365#post32965365 (because nubia x is not officially supported yet, but im working on it).
ROOT Nubia X: bbs.nubia.cn/thread-1396991-1-1.html (The toolkit, as messed up as it looks, works just fine. Close the first window and click root while having an OEM unlocked phone).
ORIGINAL ROM (will upload it on mega because the chinese provider is absolut unusable) <- edit later :good:
What I've done so far is successfully rooting the phone (using the toolkit above), unlocking the bootloader (i guess) with
Code:
fastboot oem nubia_unlock NUBIA_NX616J
where NUBIA_NX616J is the pass.
After running this command you will get the following output:
Code:
(bootloader) START update nubia fastboot unlock flag!!!
(bootloader) set state to 1 ok!!!
OKAY [ 0.009s]
Finished. Total time: 0.010s
And after this, you can simply flash using
Code:
fastboot flash <partition> <filename>.img
.
Im currently checking the specs for the device so I can compile a TWRP for it.
Also, you can't flash Gapps right now because TWRP is unavailable as long as I / or someone else don't create a device tree for this phone.
But you can install all GApps apk's (most importantly the Google Service Framework (GSM) apk). After that, just convert the apps
to system apps using Link2SD App. (Search App -> Options -> Convert to System App (or: Include Update to System....).
Actually, I guess I finished the device tree.
Check this one out:
https://mega.nz/#!HiZQkApR!473uATQeZp224i_aka84bYszYlPnlsyo0dDaJp32NZo
If this is the right one, we could successfully compile TWRP for this device! :fingers-crossed:
Alright, I need to change stuff but here's what I have right now:
The phone is a bit tricky when it comes to partitions.
But I've managed to get all the required stuff ready to set up TWRP.
Maybe I'll try the compiled version on my own or I'll force br_other to test it out >!
Well check back here later, for updates.
LAST CHECKPOINT: 13.12.2018.
Please note:
If youdo that operation through the tool mentioned in the link above, be careful with the Magisk installed.
Do not upgrade it, because the phone will go into a bootloop (like me ).
Although you can recover it from that stage, it's pretty annoying, especially if you don't have data backup.

Yes, that's right don't do that.
Use Google Translate to translate the Chinese Tutorial (Important, I can't re-upload it because it's not mine!).
And create a backup before doing anything.
It's not that likely to happen that your phone is brick after doing these steps but it might be possible.
Be careful bois.
Another thing to mention:
Don't run any ADB commands mentioned above!
This is not a Tutorial - this is a progress thread for other Developer (and for people interested in rooting their nubia).
Maybe for someone interested:

hi all, I'm new here, I'm thinking of buying this Nubia X, but I'm worried that Google Play won't work. Do the main apps, such as Maps, Gmail or Google Play and google play game updates work?
Download Tool
Hi guys,
is there any Possibility to Download the Root tool, without any failures or additional stuff?
I dont speak any chinese and the given Mirrors are both unusable.
The one from Micro Cloud jus doesnt open and the other one from Baidu Cloud asks me to download the Baidu software, no matter what i click.
Does anyone know how or where to download the tool except from using the Baidu Manager?
Hey guys,
Sorry - I was too tired to do the tutorial yesterday.
But imma do it now !
The phone works perfectly (in the view of a developer) with the Google Apps.
Im looking forward to get TWRP working with that phone when I have more free-time.
Until then, sure, the phone is perfectly usable.
Check back in a few hours, I will create a new thread or update this one.
Cheers :victory:

You are AMAZING!!!!
Thank you, and also, if it's not too much trouble, could you mirror the files somewhere else besides Baidu?

Hi guys,
I need a very big help for my Nubia x.
Today I have updated my Nubia x via otg with new Rom V 2.20. Everything worked very well, but after I have made a big mistake trying to root it but I have completely bricked my phone.
No recovery anymore. It's only possible to connect via EDL with Nubia Emergency tool 1.1.6 but that version it's not yet available for Nubia x.
I ask if someone have some tool or files to get it back in life.
Thank you very much and Merry Christmas

Hi,
If you have access to fastboot and / or bootloader we can try to flash the original boot and recovery image.
Just send me a PM with details and I'll try to connect via TeamViewer in order to help you.

I'm curious. Can you please give some more details here?
You said you did update it via OTG? Does it means you did that trough the recovery mode?
Also was the phone rooted before that?
Also as my friend said - check if you can go in recovery and try the fastboot access as well.
Post some update of your progress as well.
