Galaxy S4 Urban Armor Gear Case Review

If you are a fan of rugged yet slim cases, definitely take a look at the Urban Armor Gear case for the Galaxy S4. The case consists of a shock-absorbing inner rubber layer, and a rigid plastic mid-shell. Each corner has been reinforced with thick rubber to protect your phone from those deadly corner drops. In my opinion, this case bests both the Otterbox and SPIGEN in two important areas. First, it's much slimmer that the Otterbox Commuter, while offer similar protection. Second, it has much taller lip than the SPIGEN Slim Armor.

It looks legit to me, but your mileage may vary. It's only $5 cheaper, so not very suspicious.

Hey thanks for the nice review. Could you elaborate more on the included screen protector? I was leaning towards a glass screen protector and a cheaper case but now I'm leaning towards the UAG and using the included one. I really don't want to pay more than $35 on protection between cases and screen protectors. As far as non-glass screen protectors go how is the UAG one?

I haven't installed it since I have a dummy phone, but it feels like your typical $3 screen protector from Acase or Halo. I've never used a glass screen protector, but I guess it's safe to assume this one isn't as high quality.
I'll try to post a case and screen protector giveaway on our site tomorrow.

It appears it is since imarine.com has a BBB score of 'A' and a good Reseller Review. They charge 8.95 flat-rate shipping though so it still ends up being about 30 bucks.
I picked mine up off of epal (shopepal.com) for $25 and free shipping. Was a little hesitant at first but they are a US based seller and also have an A+ BBB rating. Should be legit. I can't post links since I just joined but you can find them with an easy search.
Ill follow up when it is delivered to confirm.

Having used both Spigen Slim Armor and UAG...
Having used both Spigen Slim Armor and UAG, here are my opinions.
As far as looks, the Galaxy S4 with Spigen Slim Armor (Metal Slate) looks like something James Bond might slip out of the inside pocket of his tuxedo. The Galaxy S4 with UAG (Scout) looks like something a Navy Seal might wrestle out of a tactical vest during a firefight.
I have dropped my Galaxy S4 while equipped with the Spigen Slim Armor. The fall was from about 4 feet high onto an unpadded hardwood floor. The case landed the top left corner as evidenced by a temporary "bruise" in the TPU but the phone was completely unharmed. However, it was that fall that inspired me to purchase the UAG case.
The UAG is, itself, a very slim case. I was expecting more bulk but was very pleasantly surprised. The increased depth of the UAG is, almost completely, attributed to the protective "lip" that surrounds the screen. Though, I still prefer the Spigen Slim Armor for slipping in and out of my pockets or for when I don't want my Galaxy S4 to look so "tactical", I prefer the UAG for everything else.
One specific trait about the UAG case that makes it a great utility case is that it has an incidental cavity behind the "UAG" logo that's perfect for carrying additional MicroSD cards, if you are one of us who often carry additional cards.

Are they just in there loose and jostling about? Not that I necessarily think that will do anything bad, just curious.

They do slide around a bit in the space. I have a couple ideas to prevent them sliding about but it hasn't been too much of a concern to make it an urgent necessity.

Will this case work with a zagg shield?

The otterbox defender is a more protecting case than the spigen slim armor case...if you drop your phones alot and you dont want to have to much expenses on always repairing the device i suggest the otterbox defender case

Yeah, I allready watched some videos on YouTube with Otterbox. They are very good, but I can't compare it to Spigen Armor View, because I can't find anything like "droptest S4" in this case. It's important to me to keep my superamoled screen & gorrila glass on S4 after something bad happens. That's why I wonder about Spigen View Case. Maybe it's more protective for stones when it drop on front face?

I currently use a Slim Armor with a Nano Slim Glass Screen protector and I love it, now it also depends if you drop your device a lot, I usually dont or even hardly ever do, but im sure if I drop it with this combo that I have i'll be OK.

There's a reason why there isn't any drop tests for the slim armor, it's because it's not that protective. It's good to protect the back and sides from everyday use, but for drops, not so much.

Maybe just the slim armor, but the slim armor view protects all of the sides when closed.

The Slim Armour view is just the same about the regular slim Armour but just with a face cover..and the cover is there to just only cover the screen..nothing more..

Are you saying it's not worth the 50 bucks?

I'd used Spigen Slim Armor View for about a month and I liked it very much. But after official KK 4.4.2 update, the home button on the front cover is no longer working (I guess Samsung had their S-View cover in mind). So I returned it the retailer and awaiting for Otterbox Defender as a replacement (credits to MobileFun). I've read a lot of positive reviews about it. :good:

I've seen a few out there, the one at the below link is quite decent looking and offers some more functionality over the Samsung one.

Thanks but it seems a bit expensive... for that I would prefer to buy a fake black matte one from AliExpress for 5 bucks shipped.

To be honest I would probably do the same, there are plenty of cheap chinese ones out there, its just getting one thats half decent quality.

Yeah, I have loved the UAG cases. But wondering if I should stick with them or try something better....

I'm using the Otterbox Commuter right now,only because it came free with my phone. I'm ordering the GN4 Sup case with holster, $19.99 US, from Amazon. It seems like a nice case.

Try Amazon. They have them for about $22.

I've been a UAG fan for a couple of years. I have a UAG on my Note 4. However, I decided to try a Samsung Protective Cover because of many positive reviews and because it is a bit less bulky than the UAG. I am liking it. It may not provide the same degree of protection as the UAG, but it appears to be solid and much less bulky because it conforms to the Note shape. I think it will be able to handle a moderate degree of abuse.

Definitely UAG is still one of the best. Best price on Amazon, unless you want free international shipping.
They also have a new wallet case, but not a big fan of it

Love mine! I had one on my S4, now I have one on my Note 4.

The link doesn't go anywhere yet but it pretty much confirms that they'll be making screen protectors for it. I'm planning on getting the 0.15mm Feather Glass screen protector. (I'm hoping it will be the Feather+ Glass with rounded edges that they have for iPhone 6)

I'm not sure yet. I might start with one of the official cases and get a Spiegen on discount.

It's so hard to tell for screen protectors until there are some reviews.... Like with the iphone 6, like NONE of the companies had a good screen protector for my daughter's phone for about a month after the phone came out

I will buy ivoler case,I once bought the iVoler dot view case for my M8, I absolutely love it. I work for Sprint and I use my phone all day everyday between work and at home. I have to say it has the "wow" factor as well as very usable gestures. I have used several flip case's like this in the past and have had up and down thoughts about them, however this is the best out of all that I have used. Some reviews say that it makes the phone awkward to use with the flap open, however in all honesty anytime you use a case like this its not the same as a naked phone or regular case. The rubber that makes up the front is very soft and is easy to manipulate while folded back, and I have had no problems with it staying flat on the screen. I have carried the phone in levi's as well as slacks and the rubber surprisingly doesn't grab or make it hard to go in and out of the pocket. I did receive the gray case not the black, however I believe the warm black was intended to be this color. I would highly recommend this case to anybody, you will not be dissatisfied unless you have never used a flip style case and at that point you may not like it. Well worth the try and the money!!!

Came across this video on YouTube, features quite a few cool cases. You might want to pause the video to read up on the pros and cons as it goes a little too quick.
I'm hoping for the dot view to come out soon, if not I'll go for a fusion, love that it shows off the back of the phone.

What about Seidio cases, I've always used this maker of phone case on all the phones that I have ever purchased. I think one of the best out. Now they are making waterproof cases as well.

Don't own a Seidio case but they are well regarded. Signed up for the mailing list.

Ordered the HTC One M9 Spigen Case Thin Fit.
Looks nice and i like it thin just to protect the rear from scratches and such.
On the screen i will place a glass protector. My GF has it on her S5 and it is very smooth and strong.

Not sure I'm a huge fan of all that bulk...

IMO Incipio and Spigen make the best cases out of any manufacturer. Sure Otterbox and a few others make cases that provide more protection, but when it comes to quality & style Spigen and Incipio are King.

Looking for a preimium case

Bought my phone outright a couple weeks ago from sprint and have loved it ever since. I also bought the otter box symmetry case the same day. It works well and and is a decent case. I have one compaint it feels cheap so i was wondering what cases feel like a premium solid feel. I like the way the phone feels without a case however dont want to risk breaking my $700 phone. Any suggestions
